Okay guys, here is the newest chapter, I hope you like it and have fun.
On the previous chapter
Ocean's POV
"Now, don't use that rule to do that to someone. Rape is rape." He turned to look at mom. "Also, I don't remember you fighting back so technically that wasn't even close to rape."
Mom rolled her eyes. "You were drunk, I bet you can't even remember the color of your underwear."
Dad smirked. "I can't but I'm sure you can."
Mom's cheeks reddened. She pushed her food away and cleared her throat, signaling for dad to continue talking.
"And you Ocean, well, let's just say that Annabeth was very angry and she needed something, or someone, to take out her anger on."
Not exactly knowing what that mean, I tilted my head to the side and raised an eyebrow questionably. Fawn looked at me and smiled.
"Mom gave dad angry sex."
I opened my mouth in a big 'o' saying that I got what she was trying to say. We all try to go back to eating but our appetites seem to have gone down the drain. Dad volunteers to clean the kitchen and we all go to our separate room.
Justin's POV
I rush out of my apartment door and make my way to my car. I'm normally not late for work but today I overslept. It's not like me to be late, I love my job. I know, I know, most people hate their jobs. They're boring and stupid and they have the worst boss in the whole universe. Not me thought. My co-workers think the same way as me. Our jobs are not boring, it's not stupid, and we most definitely don't have the worst boss ever. On the contrary, our boss is the best one ever. He is nice, caring, gentle, a nice role model, patient, and the list goes on.
I do not have a man crush on him but it's impossible not to talk so highly of him. How could you say crap about one of the most understanding persons in the world? Simple, you can't. You see, I work at the Manhattan Aquarium. My boss, Percy Jackson, is not your average boss. Unlike most bosses, he gives you more chances than you could ever ask for. My friend, Eric, is late to work a lot of times and then there are other times where he just doesn't show up. Most people would have fired him after the fourth time of being late or absent no matter the excuse. Percy, on the other hand, would let it slip so long as he saw that Eric was really trying and so long as he had a valid excuse.
My other friend, Sofia, she has a mom with cancer. Sofia is one of the workers that is absent the most but Percy understands that Sofia needs to be supportive to her mother. Another thing that we all love about Percy is the fact that he hates being called 'sir' or 'chief' or anything else that suggest that he is above other people. He helps us in any way he can and he never puts pressure on us. Percy Jackson has never, in the nine years of the aquarium, fired anyone.
The only way for an employ to leave the aquarium staff would be by their own choice. Even then, they wouldn't want to leave. What can I say, that's the effect that having the best boss ever has on everyone. But anyway, I may have the best boss ever but that still doesn't make it right for me to be late for absolutely no good reason at all. I park my car in the employ section and as I get out, I think of what I'm supposed to tell him. When I enter the building I look everywhere to make sure that Percy doesn't see me. That doesn't go as planned.
"Oh, hey, Justin, I've been looking everywhere for you." I curse myself under my breath and turn around to face Percy.
"Hello, sir, what a wonderful morning."
He lifts his head up from looking at his clipboard and groans as he does so.
"What have I said about calling me sir?" He asked and then he smirks. "Oh, why are you late?"
"Do you want the sugar coated answer or the truth?"
"First choice."
"Traffic…"
"Hmm, okay, truth would be very nice now."
"I overslept."
Percy frowned. "You overslept? That is really unlike you."
I nodded in agreement. He switches his clipboard for his tablet and looks at it. Oh crap. He's going to see it. He's going to send me home. He lifts his head up and glares at me.
"Dude, are you sleep deprive?" He shook his head disapprovingly. "I should send you home."
We stay quiet for a little and wait for him to continue. Part of me thinks that the silence indicates he wants me to get to work but the other part of me is telling me that he is considering sending me home. So instead of moving or awkwardly standing in place, I speak.
"There is an unheard 'but' in that sentence."
He sighs. "But you are part of the field trip thingy." He shook his head. "Over the last three days you've worked 43 hours. That is insane."
I'm a playful guy so I decide to take this the playful approach.
"What ya gonna do about it, boss?"
He looked at me with a raised eyebrow then smirked. "After today, I don't want to see your ass here tomorrow at all. Not even as a 'visit'."
He shuts off his tablet and starts walking away. Percy freaking Jackson just changed my schedule without even hesitating. He snatched my shift right from my arms. He left me jobless for the day tomorrow. How could he do this and walk away like it was nothing? This is my passion I'm talking about here. I get out of my shock quickly and run to catch up to Percy.
"You can't do this." He looks at me with a raised eyebrow. Right… he owes the place and he's my boss. "Okay, maybe you can, but please don't do this. I love this job and I want my shift tomorrow."
Percy stops walking and puts a hand on my shoulder. "I'd love to give it to you, really, I would but I can't. I can't because I don't want you to over work yourself. You need to rest. You can't drive while being sleep deprived."
"Why?" And I'm whining like a four year old.
"Because you could fall asleep while driving and then I'll get sued for overworking you." He sighed and shook his head. "Most importantly, I'd risk the chance of losing one of my best employees to a stupid crash or some sort of accident. Just, no work for tomorrow."
He started walking away again. "You can't stop me and we all know you're too kind to fire me."
He stops is his tracks and turns around. "You're right, I won't fire you, but you know what I will do without hesitation?"
I shrugged and wait for him to elaborate.
"I can put you on an all-expense paid vacation to Australia without even thinking about it twice."
I narrowed my eyes. "You wouldn't."
"Oh, don't try me because I would. And I would make it a 3 month vacation. Every time you try to come I'll add another month." He smirked triumphantly. "Go to one of the staffs rooms and sleep Justin. Just until the kids get here."
I didn't want to test him anymore than I already had so I followed his orders and went to sleep.
LINE BREAK
I woke up at 2:30. The kids were supposed to be here any minute now. I quickly stood up and fast-walked out of the staff area. I had to find Percy and remind him. Sometimes he's really forgetful so I'm in charge of reminding him about important events. I walk over to the entrance of the building and see that there are no buses. I frown. The students are supposed to be here by now. Ignoring that, I make my way over to the front desk.
"Hey, Sophia, have you seen Percy?"
She shakes her head. "Last I saw his, he was chewing you out."
I rolled my eyes. "Also, aren't the elementary kids supposed to be here by now?"
"Traffic is bad. I guess they got held back."
I nod and thank her for her help. I keep walking around the building randomly. Why can't I spot Percy? I pick up my pace as I see a mob of black hair similar to Percy's. On the way to the black mob of hair, I am stopped by two little girls.
"Excuse me, sir." One of them says shyly. "Do you know where the dolphins are?"
I sigh as I lose sight of the mob of hair. Smiling gently at the girls I crouch down so they could see my face easier.
"Well, princesses, that depends on which dolphins you want to see."
The girls giggle. "Pink Dolphins."
I stand up as I grab their hands. "Right this way m'ladies." They giggle again. "If I may ask, where are your mommy and daddy."
The girls stop and they scan the crowd. One of them starts jumpind up and down and points into the small crowd. She pulls my hand as she runs and we stop in front of two adults.
"Well hello, these two must be yours."
They both sigh in relief as they each take one of the girls. I smile at them and start to walk away until one of the girls grabs my hands and looks at me a bit sadly.
"Dolphins?"
I slap myself mentally and crouch down again. "Oh, I am so sorry m'lady. How could I have forgotten those pink dolphins. Forgive me."
The little girl giggled again.
"Alright, do you know where the play area is?"
She nods enthusiastically.
"The pink dolphins are in front of the Blue castle tower."
"Thank you." She says and drags her family away.
I smile. This is part of the reason why I love my job. This aquarium brings a lot of people joy. More than four proposals have happened here. I see people meet here who look like they hate each other but then they are the best of friends. And then the kids. The kids love this place. Their eyes shine so brightly and you can't help but to let a smile on your face. I have yet to see someone sad in this place. I have yet to see a person whose mood is sour and bitter when they step here.
I go back to the entrance and notice a stream of kids flowing in through the front door of the building. Oh crap, where could Percy be? Come on Justin! Think! AHA! I run to the back of the aquarium where the 'fish nursery and infirmary' is. Just as I slam through the door I see Percy getting out of the shark tank. He sees me and smiles.
"Hey Justin, had a nice nap?"
"Yeah, uhm, there are a bunch of kids at the entrance so…"
His eyes widened as he checked his watch. He put his lab coat over his full body swim suit and ran out the door. I ran after him. By the time we made it to the front of the aquarium, all the students were inside and waiting impatiently. Percy came to a sudden stop and I crashed into him making him stumble forward. He regained his balanced and glared at me.
"Okay, 5th grade class or Goode Elementary, Welcome to the Manhattan Aquarium." He gave them a kind smile. "First order of bitness. I would like to apologize for canceling the field trip yesterday. And now for the good stuff. Before I came running in here, I was doing something so who wants to see something really cool?"
All hands shot up. Percy grinned happily.
"Alright," he cheered. "Justin, take them the bull shark aquarium. And uh, Mrs. Mackey, is it?"
The teacher nodded.
"Do you mind if I take my daughter with me, it's kind of something I promised she could help me do."
Ocean jumped to the front of the line and in front of Percy. Her eyes were wide and filled with excitement.
"You don't mean…"
Percy nodded. "Oh yeah."
Ocean turned to look at Mrs. Mackey. "Can I go, please, please, please!"
Mrs. Mackey nodded her head and Ocean squealed and jumped in excitement. She grabbed Percy's hand and started dragging him away. I smiled to myself and contained my laughter as I turned to the students.
"Okay, if you'll follow me we can go to the Bull shark aquarium. Any questions you have ask them along the way."
We started walking through the mazes of aquariums. The kids were talking amongst themselves and every once in a while I would look back to see if no kid was left behind. Half-way to the shark tank a kid cleared his throat.
"So, uhm, we heard that the owner of this place has a surprise for us an uh, we want to know what it is."
I stopped and turned around and looked at the kids with a raised eyebrow. "I was not aware of that. Give me a second."
I looked around until I spotted one of the field trip helpers. (That's what Percy calls us.)
"Eric!" He turns to look at me and I motion him to come over. "Does Percy have a surprise for the kids."
Eric had the same confused face as I. "That I'm aware of, no." Some of the kids deflated. "But it could be a last minute thing he forgot to mention to us."
"Okay, thanks Eric." He nodded and walked away. "He didn't mention it to any of the workers but maybe he does have something planned."
Some of the kids smiled again and I hoped Percy did have something for them. The kids shouldn't have their hopes up for nothing. I continue guiding them until we stand in front of the glass and wait for the thing. After a couple of minutes one of the kids got impatient.
"What's the 'cool thing', I don't see anything."
"You have to wait for it," I said. "They have to prep her."
Some kids gave me confused looks but I turned back to the tank. Finally, after a while bit longer, Percy and Ocean came down into the tank with a Bull shark who looked like she was in pain. Percy was petting the shark's back in order to calm her and sooth her. Ocean had her forehead against the shark's snout and was putting it's sides in order to distract it from the pain.
"Uhm, isn't being that close to a shark dangerous?" One kid asked. "Especially if they are in pain."
"Well, in the wild and for most people it would be dangerous." I said. "But not for Percy or Ocean. Have you heard of a ghost whisper?"
Some kids nodded. "Can't they communicate with ghosts?"
I nodded. "Yes. Just like ghost whispers there are also Sea whispers." I said. "Percy and Ocean have a way of communicating with sea animals. They've been doing this together since Ocean was about six-and-a half."
I heard some kids murmur 'cool'. I turned my attention back to the shark. The shark was swimming around in slow circles. Percy and Ocean were allowing the shark to drag them with it. By now, I could see a tail coming out of the shark. After a couple of minutes, a new baby shark was born. Some of the kids looked awe, some of them weren't paying attention. Ocean went after the shark as it started to swim away. She swam up with it and a few moments later came back down to her usual position.
Percy grabbed his water-proof talkie and put it close to his mouth. Despite their scuba gear, Percy and Ocean could be heard clearly.
"Justin, ask Amanda what the name of that new born shark should be."
I turn to look at the kids. "Which one of you is Amanda?"
A country-looking girl raised her hand timidly.
"Okay, you get to name the baby shark. So give it a name, any name."
"Why me?"
"Don't know, ask them later but choose a name and quickly."
"Uhm, Is it a girl or boy."
By memory, I remember how the shark looked like.
"Boy."
"Finn."
"Okay," I put the talkie to my mouth. "Percy, Finn."
"Finn it is." He turned to Ocean and she swam up again. Not long after Ocean swam back down another baby shark was born and she raced after it. Ocean took the talkie from her dad and put it on her mouth.
"Justin, ask Mark what he wants the name of this one to be." She said. "Oh by the way, it's a girl and tell him he can't choose his own name."
"Mark, you get to name this one." I said. "Also, Ocean said that this is a girl and to not name it after yourself."
"That takes the fun out of it." He murmurs. "Sharkila."
"Ocean, he said Sharkila."
She nodded and took the baby shark up. Ocean came back down and helped Percy guide the shark up. I turn to the sea of kids and said, "that's the 'cool thing'."
