STANLEY'S POV:

It's agonizing watching John walk towards the front of the courtroom. I look away and feel Leia's hand wrap around mine. I study her, looking forward, eyes locked on John whose made his way to the front of the courtroom and is talk with his lawyer. Cole catches my gaze and looks down at our hands. He shakes his head and I let go. Agg! Why am I doing this?! Leia looks up at me, wondering why I let go. I just stare back to John and instantly feel think the worst friend ever. The judge goes through all the boring formalities and Bryce's dad stands up and John goes up to the stand. This is the first court case I've ever been to, and honestly I have no idea what's going on.

Agent Larkin is asking John all sorts of questions but all I can think about is what a terrible friend I am. John goes back to his seat and Agent Larkin calls me up to the stand. I look over at my friends and walk up to the front of the room, avoiding John's stare.

"So Stanley, who long have you known John?" Larkin asks.

"My whole life," I reply.

"And during that time has John ever mentioned any type of drugs?"

"No."

The questions go on and on and then he asks me the question I've been dreading.

"According to some sources, John often disappears every Monday for a few hours. Is this true?"

I sigh, "Yes."

"And do you know where he goes during this time?"

I look over at john for the first time in days, "No." I say quietly.

"I see, what does he say when you ask him?"

"That, that he's meeting a friend."

"Have you ever met this "friend"?"

"No."

"Alright that's all. Thank you," I walk back to my friends. No one says anything. Larkin calls them up one by one asking the same questions. They all give the same replies as I do. He talks to our principle and to some other students, Bryce being one of them.

"Were you and John close friends?" Larkin asks his son.

"Yes, we were." Lie. Bryce hated John.

"Did John act strangely these past few months?"

"Yeah he did, ever since his dad left. I figured that it was just the pressure getting to him. He seemed to be pushing himself a little too hard between sports and school. Not everyone can handle all that like others." Lie. Lie. Lie. Stupid Bryce.

"Did John ever mention drugs to you?"

"Um, yeah, he offered me some before a big football game. Said that it would guarantee us a spot in the play offs. I told him that I wasn't into that stuff. I told him that he needed to quit. He ignored me. That's when I went to Mr. James. I'm sorry John, but it's for your own good." Bryce says, the last part aimed at John." There is a collective gasp and I watch the blood drain from John's face.

"Liar!" I say, standing up.

"Mr. Worthington, sit down." The judge says. I ignore him and Stare at Bryce.

"You know that John wasn't worried at that game. John does stress out, it's how he wins. Not by freaking out and getting drugged up."

"Mr. Worthington, Sit down or leave." The judge says. I sit down and cross my arms over my chest. Cole leans over and gives me a fist bump. Well at least he seems to forgive me.

JOHN'S POV:

I wipe my sweaty palms on my pants. This does not look like it is going to end well for me. Stanley is called up to the stand and he won't even look at me. He thinks I'm guilty, I think to myself, they all do. I want to be mad but I can't. Everyone else thinks I'm guilty, why should they be any different? Well, I think, everyone but One. Man, I would do anything to have One here, for her to make fun of me and make me laugh. I listen to Stanley answer all of Larkin's questions truthful. He steps down from the stand and Larkin goes though a bunch of people. They all look at me with a mix of fear, frustration, and pity. Eventually Agent Larkin calls Bryce up to the stand.

"Were you and John close friends?" Larkin asks his son.

"Yes, we were." Yeah we had lots of fun when you beat the crap out of me. We should do that again something, I think sarcastically.

"Did John act strangely these past few months?"

"Yeah he did, ever since his dad left. I figured that it was just the pressure getting to him. He seemed to be pushing himself a little too hard between sports and school. Not everyone can handle all that like others." I roll my eyes.

"Did John ever mention drugs to you?"

"Um, yeah, he offered me some before a big football game. Said that it would guarantee us a spot in the play offs. I told him that I wasn't into that stuff. I told him that he needed to quit. He ignored me. That's when I went to Mr. James. I'm sorry John, but it's for your own good." Bryce says. The last part aimed at me. I feel my blood boil and clench my hands into fists. There is a collective gasp and all eye turn to me. Everything he just said is a lie. My toughs are interrupted by Stanley jumping out of his seat and saying,

"Liar!"

"Mr. Worthington, sit down." The judge says. He ignores him and stares at Bryce.

"You know that John wasn't worried at that game. John does stress out, it's how he wins. Not by freaking out and getting drugged up." I smile. It's good to know that he's on my side.

"Mr. Worthington, Sit down or leave." The judge says. And that's the last thing I heard before everything went black.

STANLEY'S POV:

I look over at John just in time to see him fall out of his chair. I leap up and rush towards him. A doctor comes over as well. After a minute John regains consciousness. I look at his eyes and they're blood shot. I go back to my seat and the doctor looks at John then whispers something to the judge.

"Dr. Capaldi has deiced that John's symptoms are due to withdrawal from ZCV's." Everyone stops talking and you could hear a pin drop. The Judge dismisses the jury and in about thirty minutes they come back. That wasn't nearly enough time for a good decision to be made.

Someone from the jury stands up and I wonder if they know how much their decision will affect John's life.

"In the case of John Smith the Jury has found him…"
