Chapter Fourteen
Katherine's heels could be heard as they clicked on the sidewalk, she couldn't help but hum as she walked through the nearly empty streets of the city. She looked around the city, it was a very small city and most of the buildings were centuries old.
Relaxation began to settle down, she was free at least for a couple of hours, but it was nice to be independent again and have a few hours to herself. Hopefully, she would be back before Klaus came back. Something told her that he was going to freak, especially since she was so "poor and delicate."
Katherine snorted. She had never been delicate in her life.
Klaus, the name popped into her head, even though she didn't want it to. Her nerves were still a bit unsettled. She had been rejected of course. But never so bluntly and so coldly. It was like Klaus hadn't even cared.
It wasn't like Katherine had expected flowers, but still something other than a shrug would be nice. Katherine knew that she wouldn't be able to ignore him forever.
Seduce him, that was always Katherine's technique, but she had a feeling that Klaus would be a little harder to seduce than the usual men that she dated. Klaus was over 1000 years old, not to mention he was stubborn.
It would take more than a wink to seduce him.
Something caught Katherine's glance, a white frosted, perfect looking cake peering out of a Bakery window looking like it came out of a magazine. Katherine's stomach grumbled, desperately craving the piece of pastry. She looked inside her wallet, she definitely had enough money, and who knew maybe it could be a sort of peace treaty between her and Klaus.
She already had enough on her plate with her worrying about the Travelers coming to slice her neck.
She entered the bakery and a white hair older woman smiled at her. "Hello, dear what can I get for you?"
"The cake in the window." Katherine said as she pointed to the white cake.
The woman nodded. "Excellent choice, sweetheart. I'll get it for you."
Katherine tapped her foot as she waited for the woman to wrap the cake. She heard a small bell ringing meaning that new customers has entered the shop. Katherine turned around slightly and saw a man and a woman looking like they came from camping.
"I'll be right with you two." The woman said. "Here you go dear, that will be $15. 50."
Katherine dug in her purse for the money. "That won't be necessary." Katherine was about to turn around when she felt a sharp pain against her head and everything went completely black.
Klaus knew that Katherine was gone the minute he entered the house. For once the house was too quiet, and Katherine was never quiet, and two her scent was gone. There were still lingering traces in the house, but not enough to tell him that she was there.
She couldn't have left . . . could she? No, she wouldn't have dared, he was her only source of protection, without him, she was just a walking target. He relaxed a bit when he saw Darla. Katherine would never leave the stupid pig behind if her life dependent on it.
So she would be back, now all there was to do was wait.
Klaus waited for a couple of hours until he could feel his temper rise, it didn't help that the stupid piglet was whimpering at his feet now. Katherine had coddled that pig so much in such a short time that it cried if it wasn't held by someone every five seconds. Klaus fought the urge to throw it out the window.
"Shut up!" he hissed at Darla as he picked up his phone and dialed Katherine's number. "I swear Katerina that the minute you walk through that door, I will wrap my hands around your pretty little neck!"
He put down his phone and turned on the TV to distract him. It was a news channel, a pretty, petite woman was standing in front of a local bakery next to several policemen.
"I'm Dawn Johnson, and I'm standing here in front of Auntie Mae's bakery where a kidnapping just occurred. Two suspects kidnapped a young girl in front of the owner. According to Mrs. Lynn, a man and a woman knocked out a young woman and took her away before police could arrive. The young woman, according to Mrs. Lynn, is a brunette around 20 years old, around 5'6, with curly brown hair and olive skin. If you have any information, please call-"
Klaus smashed the remote into the TV, breaking it. "Bloody hell!" he hissed as he rummaged a hand through his hair. They had been outsmarted and the Travelers had managed to take Katherine so easily.
Now the question was, where had they taken her?
Katherine felt a sharp pain in the back of her head, she could feel a bruise forming. She coughed a little as she forced herself to sit up. The ground was covered with dirt.
It took her a minute for her vision to settle. She was in some sort of underground cave, in a cell. She sit up slowly and for the first time noticed that a man was watching her. He was sitting outside of her cell.
"Who the hell are you?"
The man with thick, curly hair simply said. "It's been a long time, Katerina."
Even though the person was wearing a different face, there was something about the words that he used that made a chill go down Katherine's spine. The color drained from her face. "Daddy?"
