Denise sat in front of the computer at Ghostbusters headquarters. She had another false alarm that morning and both she and Ray decided it would be a good idea for her to take the day off from work. She watched as Egon and Ray continued experimenting with the slime. With all the jobs they were doing, they were finding more slime around the city. Right now, they were up to two gallons of slime.
"How are you feeling?" Ray asked as he patted her shoulder.
"Baby's still kicking", Denise smiled. "This kid's going to keep us busy when it's born. All these false alarms…"
He nodded as he put his hand on her belly. He and Denise smiled as they felt the baby kicking against his hand. They turned to the phone as it started ringing. Egon answered to hear Peter.
"Hey, can you guys do a little research?" Peter asked. "There's this painting at the museum and it's scaring Dana."
"How so?" Egon asked.
"She says the painting appears to be watching her and smiling at her."
"Is there a name for this painting?" he asked writing the information down.
"Vigo the Carpathian", Peter said. "That's what her boss says. Something's off with him. He talks to the painting as if it's alive."
"I'll see what I can find", Egon said.
"What's going on?" Denise asked.
"Venkman asked me to look up this figure called Vigo the Carpathian", he answered.
"Oh that", she said. "I hate that painting. That thing looks like it's watching me and Dana. Janosz, our boss treats the painting with delicacy, almost like he worships it. It's…it's unnatural."
"Can you look up anything about him on the Occult Reference-Net?" Egon asked.
"Sure thing."
Ray smiled as he watched Denise getting to work, helping them out. Egon started observing as the slime started reacting to Ray's feelings.
By the time it got dark, Ray and Egon were still experimenting with the slime. Denise was sitting at the desk with her head down, sleeping. Ray saw how exhausted she was. She was going to be even more exhausted when the baby came. Nothing but restless nights ahead.
The phone rang, getting his attention. Ray picked it up, answering to hear Peter on the line.
"Ray?" Peter said. "Dana's just come over to my place."
"Rekindling the romance?" Ray chuckled.
"Well, actually, her tub tried to eat her."
"What? Are you serious? Well, that's great! I mean, that's terrible, but it's great for what we were..."
"Can you and Egon get over to her apartment and see if there's any slime left there?" Peter asked.
"Yeah, I will. Sure, we'll get right on it."
He hung up the phone and turned to Egon.
"Spengler! Major slime-related psychokinetic event!"
"What's going on?" Denise yawned as she woke up.
"Something came out of Dana's bathtub, tried to grab her and the baby", Ray said.
"Oh my god!" she gasped.
"Are they alright?" Egon asked.
"Yeah, well, she got out of there and went over to Venkman's."
"Oh Egon", Denise said. "I went ahead and looked up Vigo the Carpathian on the Occult Reference-Net. Look what came up. Vigo the Carpathian, 1508-1610. Sixteenth century Carpathia was in a state of spiritual turmoil due to the principally of the despotic rule of Prince Vigo Von Humburg Deutchemdorf, tyrant, sorcerer, and psychotic autocrat."
"Ooh, nice ugly history", Ray said. "Think there's a connection between this Vigo character and the…slime?"
"Is the atomic weight of cobalt 58.9?" Egon asked.
Denise looked at him and shrugged shaking her head.
"We'd better get over to Dana's apartment", Ray said putting on his leather jacket. "I'd like to check out the bathtub."
"It might be a good idea to go to the museum in the morning and get a look at that painting", Egon agreed.
"Should I come too?" Denise asked.
"No", Ray said. "You go on home and get some rest. If this slime is dangerous, I don't want to take a chance on you being there."
He kissed her lips before rushing out the door with Egon.
