Hidden Behind the Blue
Ch13_ Restricted

Grimmjow combed through the halls looking for Makota. He couldn't find her anywhere.

"Dammit," He growled to himself, "Where're you hiding?"

Grimmjow finally picked up on her scent in the far corridors of Las Noches. He heard her singing softly. He went into the corridor but didn't see her. He looked up to see Makota sitting in the rafters with her back against the wall. She had her head laid back against the wall with her eyes closed.

Makota was once again in her own world and didn't realize he was there.

Grimmjow leaned against the doorframe and listened to his daughter sing her heart out.

"Look at me
You may think you see
Who I really am
But you'll never know me
Every day
It's as if I play a part
Now I see
If I wear a mask
I can fool the world
But I cannot fool my heart
Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
I am now
In a world where I
Have to hide my heart
And what I believe in
But somehow
I will show the world
What's inside my heart
And be loved for who I am
Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
Why is my reflection
Someone I don't know?
Must I pretend that I'm
Someone else for all time?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
There's a heart that must be
Free to fly
That burns with a need to know
The reason why
Why must we all conceal
What we think, how we feel?
Must there be a secret me
I'm forced to hide?
I won't pretend that I'm
Someone else for all time
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?"

Grimmjow realized as Makota put more emotion into the song her energy would go up. It kept going and going until it was stopped in its tracks all together, as if something had made it stop.

"Kid!" Grimmjow called up to her. Makota looked down at him, surprised that she didn't sense him come in. "C'mere," He told her.

Makota disappeared in a flash of color and reappeared on her feet on the floor. She went to Grimmjow, "Yeah Daddy?"

"You've been lying to me, haven't you?" Grimmow asked.

"What're talking about?" Makota wondered with a grin.

"Don't play stupid with me, kid," He warned. He stood up straight and glared at her, "Did you really think you could hide it from me?" Makota just looked at him. "You're much stronger than you're letting on. You didn't use all your power against me in our fight, did you?"

"No," Makota answered.

"You dare try to make a fool of me?" Grimmow snarled.

"I wasn't trying to, Daddy," Makota stated, "I used as much power that I can use."

"What're you talkin' about?" Grimmjow arched a brow.

Makota lowered her eyes and brushed the collar of her shirt aside and showed a tattoo on the left side of her chest right above her breast, "It's a restriction Kido. It suppress my power as if I were a Soul Reaper Captain sent to the World of the Living." Makota let go of her shirt, "Like I told you, I can barely control my power."

"When we fought how much of your power did you use?" Grimmow wondered.

"Only 25%," Makota answered, "I can't go any higher than that with the Kido still on me."

"Then just take it off," Grimmjow told her.

"NO!" Makota said, "Don't you get it? Without the Kido I can't suppress my power at all. If I were take off the Kido and let all my power out to 100%..." Makota looked her father dead in the eye, "...I could possibly kill you, Daddy. As well as all the other people I care about."

"You're serious," Grimmjow said. Makota wasn't lying at all. Makota nodded. "You've released all your power before haven't you? What happened?"

Makota's eyes began to fill with tears, "I killed someone. It was an accident."

"Who did you kill?" Grimmjow looked at Makota. Her energy had spiked again, but it was so sorrowful.

"Yasutora Sado...Chad, Ichigo-sama's best friend," Makota answered.

"You didn't tell, Kurosaki, did you?" Grimmjow towered over her.

"No. He doesn't know. Nobody does," Makota stated. "I was gonna tell Ichigo-sama, but that was before..." Makota said as tears ran down her face, "...He swore to kill the person that killed his best friend. If I were to tell him the truth Ichigo-sama would never forgive me. I don't want him to hate me."

"You could've just told me about the Kido, kid," Grimmjow told her softly.

"I didn't think I could without you thinking that I'm weak," Makota said wiping her face dry.

Grimmjow held her cheek in his calloused hand. Makota looked at him. She smiled as he wiped away a stray tear from her eye.

"I knew from the first time I saw you that you weren't weak, Makota," He told her. Makota looked at him surprised; that was the first time Grimmjow ever said her name. "C'mere," Grimmjow pulled her into a tight hug. Makota wrapped her arms around Grimmjow.

Grimmjow snaked an arm around her and held her to him tightly as he slipped a hand into Makota's hair and massaged her scalp in an effort to calm her down. He placed his cheek against the crown of her head as he made a low guttural purring sound in his chest against Makota's ear.

Grimmjow felt Makota hug him tighter, "I love you, Daddy."

He found himself smirk lightly, "Love you too."
