"You ready for this?" Wade asked taking Zoe's hand as they walked towards the end of the plantation.
"Yep, it will be fun." she smiled at him and then at Wyatt who was in Wade's other arm
"Now, just to make sure before we get too far. Wyatt, who is that?" he pointed to Zoe
"Woey" Wyatt laughed
"Good boy." Wade kissed his cheek and then looked at Zoe. "Let's roll."
It was a beautiful day in Bluebell and everyone was out enjoying the sunshine. No one took notice to them until Rose squealed and ran towards them, leaving a group of her friends behind.
"Hi guys, give me" she said reaching for Wyatt
"Ro" he smiled and went to her "Hi"
"Hi Wyatt." she kissed his cheek and then looked at Wade. "Can I steal him and show him off to my friends?"
"Sure." he chuckled
"Thanks you guys rock. It's about time you got back together."
"How'd you know?" Zoe asked
"You're holding hands. It's kind of obvious and the whole town has expected it to happen for almost a month now."
"Are we that obvious?" She asked Wade
"I guess so." he leaned down and kissed her.
They looked around as saw people smiling at them and a few of the groups were exchanging money. "Was everyone in on this bet?"
"Yeah but I lost, I had Thursday." Rose shrugged "I'll bring him back later? Maybe?" she asked
"Take your time." Wade smirked as she walked away and then turned to Zoe "No kid." he winked
"It is the middle of the day and I'm hungry and he'll be hungry soon."
"Rose can feed him. Come on Babe, let's go home."
Zoe laughed "No, calm yourself." she kissed him and spotted George. "Hey George." she waved
"Hey you two, I just made twenty bucks." he smiled flashing the twenty dollar bill at them "Thanks"
"You're welcome Tucker." Wade laughed
"What are you two up too?"
"Grabbing some lunch. Want to join?" Zoe asked
"Yeah sure, where's Wyatt?"
"Rose stole him. I reckon he won't be home for hours." Wade chuckled looking over at Rose and all her girlfriends chasing Wyatt as he crawled across the grass.
"He is one popular baby."
"Yeah people seem to like him."
"Let me just bring her his stuff." she took the bag from Wade and walked over to Rose
"Zoe, can I keep him until later?"
"Sure, here's his stuff." she handed over the bag. "He has a sandwich and snacks and his bottle, diapers, some toys." she rambled on
Rose just laughed "Enough, I'll figure it out. Go, have fun."
"Bye Buddy." Zoe waved "Be a good boy."
"No" he laughed and pulled himself up on to his feet using Zoe's leg "Up."
Zoe picked him up and gave him a kiss "Bye bye, have fun with Rose." she handed him back to Rose. "Call if you need anything."
"Yes Mom." she joked
Zoe shook her head "Bye." She waved
"Bye" Wyatt waved back
"Ready?" she asked when she got back to Wade and George
"Yeah, I'm starving."
They started walking towards the Rammer Jammer and ran into Lemon.
"Hey Lemon." Zoe waved
"Hello you three. Heading to lunch?"
"Yeah, want to join us?"
"I sure do, I was heading there myself. I won 15 dollars today." She smiled
"20" George smirked
Lemon smiled at him "Ugh I should have been in that pool."
George just laughed at her and waved the 20 at her. "I win."
"Shut up" she giggled.
A few days later, Zoe was running around the Carriage House trying to get everything perfect before her mom showed up. She moved back in a few days before and has been redecorating ever since. She has rearranged furniture and moved pictures and pillows around numerous times.
"Babe, calm down. I don't know why you are freaking out so much."
"I don't know." She sat down on the floor next to Wyatt. "She just makes me so nervous."
Wade sat down with them "Well stop, she's excited to be coming and there is nothing for her to judge you for. Didn't she tell you she wasn't going to judge you anymore?"
"Yes but that doesn't mean she won't." she pulled Wyatt on to her lap and kissed his head "Hopefully she will be to distracted by this little guy."
"Hi" Wyatt said to her
"He can be very distracting." Wade laughed
"That is true. Keep it up Little Man. Ok?"
"Ok" he laughed and wiggled off her lap, crawling towards the bed.
"When are you going to walk Wyatt?" she asked
Wyatt looked back at her and smiled "No" he pulled himself up and pulled the comforter towards him
"No" Zoe said and crawled towards him. "I just made the bed. Stop it."
"No Woey."
"Yes Wyatt." Wyatt laughed and flung his arms around her neck. "Suck up." She told him and hugged him.
"What time does she come?"
Zoe looked at her phone "Two hours."
"Want us to come get her with you?"
"No she hired a car to bring her here."
"Got it. So what do you want to do until she gets here?"
"Destress." She smiled
"Well I'd help ya out but someone doesn't want to do anything with the little guy around."
"Because it's disgusting."
"Ya know there is a room up there." He pointed to the ceiling "We could just lock him up there."
"Stop it." She giggled and she looked closely at Wyatt's hair. "Eww what is on his head?" she asked
Wade leaned over and looked at his sons head. "Looks like sweet potato or carrots."
"Eww, he needs a bath."
Wade hung his head "Fine." He stood up and picked Wyatt up with him "Let's go get you clean and see if you have a suit and tie to wear to meet Mrs. Hart."
"Oh shut up, he does have to look nice though and so do you." She pointed her finger at him.
"Oh I can't wear my I love my Alabama girl t-shirt this time?"
"No" she laughed "Now I need to destress. Get out, I'll text you later." She leaned up and kissed him
"Ok, say goodbye." He told Wyatt
"Bye Bye" he waved
"I'm so glad he doesn't freak out every time you leave anymore."
"I kind of miss it."
An hour and a half later Zoe was destressed and relaxing on her bed reading. She heard the door open and close and heard babbles coming her way. She smiled when she saw Wade and Wyatt come into the room.
"Are we better?" Wade asked sitting next to her
"Yes we are. Are we clean?" she looked at Wyatt
"Yep, he bit me though."
Zoe's eyes bugged "Oh no, where." Wade held out his arm and Zoe saw four tiny teeth marks on his wrist. "Ouch, hard."
"Yeah, those teeth are sharp."
"You yell at him?"
"Yeah, he had to sit in his crib and he did not like that so he bit that too."
"Oh boy." She looked at Wyatt "Little Boy, we don't bite." She told him. Wyatt laughed and reached for her. She took him and sat him on her lap. "Biting is not nice."
"Bite" he said
"No bite." She told him and looked at Wade "Yay, he's a biter. Please don't bite my Mom." She sighed
"Mama" Wyatt clapped
"No, we were passed that." Wade hung his head
Just then they heard a car door slam. Zoe took a deep breath "Here we go smiles on." She said and stood up. She went to hand Wyatt to Wade and then pulled him back to her and then back to Wade.
"What?" he laughed
"I'm nervous."
Wade kissed her "Don't be. I'll take him." He went to take Wyatt but he had other plans and went to bite Wade. "No" Wade yelled at him and Wyatt's lip started to quiver.
"Shh no don't cry, please don't cry." Zoe said rubbing Wyatt's back and he stopped, rubbing his eyes and laying his head on her shoulder. Zoe breathed a sigh of relief and took Wade's hand in hers, leading him towards the door. "Don't freak out." She said
"I'm not" Wade chuckled
"I am." She laughed nervously and opened the front door. Her mom had her back to the house and she was talking to the driver.
Candice heard the front door open and close behind her and she turned around. She couldn't help but smile at her daughter with a baby in her arms and Wade next to her. "Well isn't this a sight to see."
"Hi Mom" she smiled and gave her mom a hug.
"Hi Sweetie" she kissed her and turned to Wade "Hi Wade."
"Hi Mrs. Hart." He waved
"Oh isn't he precious." She said looking at Wyatt. "He's so cute and he looks just like you Wade."
Wade smiled "Thanks." He looked down at Wyatt who had a death grip on Zoe's shirt and still had his head on her shoulder. He was watching Candice's every move.
"Why don't we put your stuff inside and then head over to Wade's, he'll be more comfortable there." Zoe said and readjusted Wyatt onto her other hip. He clung onto her again and watched as Wade picked up Candice's bag.
"You guys can head over, I'll meet you there." He winked at Zoe
"Ok, this way." She smiled at Candice
Wyatt's head snapped up "Dada" he said watching Wade walk away
"He'll be right back." Zoe said and rubbed his back. They walked into Wade's and Zoe smiled at Candice. "Take a seat."
Candice looked around "This looks a whole lot different than last year." She chuckled looking at the crib and toys everywhere.
"Yeah a kid will do that I guess."
"He's so cute Zoe."
Zoe smiled "I know, he'll get used to you. He's just weary around strangers."
"Ok, I figured. You look good with him."
"Thanks, it feels good." She looked down at Wyatt on her lap. "Can you say Hi?" she asked him
He looked up with her and then at Candice "Hi" he mumbled
Candice smiled and waved "Hi Wyatt."
Wyatt smiled at her and Wade came in and his head snapped towards the door. He smiled again "Dada."
"What's up Bud? You still being shy?" he asked
"He said hi." Zoe told him and then turned to Candice "How was your flight?"
"It was good. I always forget how warm it is here in December."
"Yeah, it's odd but you get used to it." Zoe laughed and went to hand Wyatt to Wade.
He clung to her "No" he said. She laughed and put him back on her lap.
"Stop it" she told him
"Woey." He said and laid his head on her chest
Candice smiled "That is adorable. So, what happened with Joel?" she asked looking between Zoe and Wade.
"Way to start off awkward Mom." Zoe shook her head
"No" Wyatt said looking at her and Zoe and Wade couldn't help but laugh
"Wow, he still doesn't like him and he's been gone for over a month." Wade laughed
"He didn't like Joel"? Candice asked
"Not so much." Zoe chuckled "He was the only person he didn't like."
"Hmm is that why you broke up with him?"
"Yes Mom, I broke up with him because a one year old didn't like him."
"Ok, so what happened?"
"We realized we didn't work."
"That's it? It had nothing to do with these two?" she looked at Wyatt and Wade.
"Maybe a little bit." Candice just looked at Zoe. "Fine, a lot a bit."
Wade looked at her "You didn't tell me that."
"I know, I would have eventually." She smiled at him
Wade shrugged "Alright." He really didn't care why or how they broke up, he was just happy they did.
"Ok, as long as you finally told him the truth."
"How did you know he didn't know anything?"
"Oh please Honey, I saw enough of the two of you before you came back here. I knew he didn't know a thing about Wade." Zoe just smiled at her. "So are you two starting off with truth?"
"Mom, really?"
"Yes really."
"Yes we are." She answered
"Good" she smiled at them
"You just want to get all the awkward out now huh?" Zoe asked
"Yes, why not? You've been back together how long?" she continued
"Week and a halfish." Zoe answered
"Not long, pretty serious already?" she asked seeing Zoe's pajamas on the bed
"Mom." Zoe yelled
"I'm just saying."
"Wade and I know what we are doing. We wouldn't have gotten back together if it wasn't going to be serious. That wouldn't be fair to us or Wyatt."
Candice smiled "That's what I wanted to know. I'm happy for you two."
"Thanks. We're happy too."
"I just don't want to see any of you get hurt again, I'm glad you both know that Wyatt is part of this too."
"Of course he is and this has been discussed and thought about for weeks. We're just not going to rush anything but we know how we'll end up." She smiled
"Not rush? Zoe you're sleeping here."
"Yes but only because you're coming and you need a place to stay." Zoe said but sounded very unconvincing.
"Yeah ok Honey." Candice rolled her eyes and smirked "Is he always right there?" she asked looking from the crib to Wade's bed
Zoe looked where she was looking and her jaw dropped "Mom, stop."
"Well now I'm curious."
"Oh my gosh, enough."
Wade was just taking this whole conversation in and keeping his mouth shut. He tried his hardest not to laugh when he figured out where this conversation was headed but he failed. He couldn't hold the laughter in any longer and let it out, resulting in a slap from Zoe. Wyatt saw his Dad laughing and he started laughing as well.
"Hey Little Boy." Zoe said to him "Don't you start too."
Wyatt looked up at Zoe and then at Wade who was still laughing. "Da" he laughed and pointed to Wade.
"Yes, Daddy is a jerk." Zoe hit Wade again and then looked at her mom. "You are crossing so many lines right now."
Candice found the whole scene in front of her pretty funny and she chuckled as well "Hey now I'm just concerned for my future grandson over there, he does not need to be seeing anything like that."
Zoe was as red a tomato and her face was in her hands "I can't believe this." She whispered
"Hey look at that Son, you have a grandma." He told Wyatt and the toddler looked at him
Candice smiled "I'll take it. At one point I figured I'd have none."
"Hey" Zoe said insulted "I want kids."
"You need a man first." She winked
"Ugh, you are on a roll today and you've been here an hour. I have a man now though so you can quit worrying."
Again Candice smiled "He'll be a little scarred but he's cute."
"Oh my gosh we're not having sex." Zoe finally yelled "See I told you she would judge me for something. I can't even have sex with my boyfriend."
"Not in front of the baby. He needs his own room."
"Ok Mom, slow down. We've been together a week and half."
"Just saying."
"Can we please talk about something else?"
"Ok, tell me all about this adorable little guy." She smiled at Wyatt and waved to him. He waved back.
Zoe beamed and looked at Wade "Go ahead Dad."
Wade smiled "Well, what would you like to know?"
"Everything, because before I leave he's mine for a night and you can disappear like last year but at least I won't be up worried you got eaten by that gator. And I won't have to sit in Lavon's kitchen and see you walk in wearing his shirt and come to my own conclusions."
"Oh my gosh Mom! That is enough." Zoe yelled
"You can have him every night you're here." Wade smirked "Zoe, give him to her now."
Zoe slapped him "No and stop, my mother does not need to know about my sex life."
"No I do not but I'm still taking him. Now tell me everything." She smiled
"Well he likes to sleep once you get him there but getting there is an event in itself."
"He's gotten better." Zoe smiled "He just has a lot of energy, you have to know how to calm him down."
Candice smiled as she watched Wade and Zoe talk about the baby. Wade continued on telling her all about Wyatt, what he likes, what he eats, all the words he says. Halfway through the conversation Candice moved over to the couch, next to Zoe. She was playing with Wyatt and he was getting more and more comfortable with her.
"He doesn't walk?" she asked
"No" Zoe huffed "We're trying but he's stubborn. Right Baby?" she asked Wyatt
"No" he laughed
"See." She chuckled "Do you want to hold him? I know you're dying to."
"If he'll let me."
Zoe took Wyatt and placed him on Candice's lap. He smiled for a bit and Candice talked to him. Zoe stood up and walked towards the bathroom. Wyatt immediately started to wiggle off Candice and whine.
"Mama" he called "Mama"
"Well that's interesting." Candice smiled and handed him over to Wade.
"Yeah he does that." Wade smirked "But we don't encourage it."
"You didn't start it?" she asked
"No, he was teething real bad one night, the night we decided to get back together actually and I had no clue what was going on so I had to call the Doc."
"Doc" Wyatt said looking at Wade and then the bathroom
"Yes Bud, she'll be right back. Anyway she came and fixed him and he said it right before he fell asleep on her lap. It was pretty cute now but got us both thinking."
"So he literally put you two back together." She smiled and took Wyatt's hand.
"Yes he did."
Zoe came out and ran over to the couch. "What happened? Why was he crying?" she asked
"Well his Mama went to the bathroom." Candice smirked knowing that Zoe didn't hear Wyatt call her that after she left.
"What?" Zoe asked "Who me?" she asked in shock
"Yes you and don't play dumb." She laughed
"Doc." Wyatt held up his arms and Zoe took him
She looked at Wade "You told her?"
Wade chuckled "I didn't have too, he opened his big mouth again."
Zoe sighed "Ugh, what did we tell you about the Mama calling?"
"Mama" he wrapped his arms around her.
Zoe smiled and looked at Candice who also had a smile "We didn't teach him that, I swear. I don't even know how he learned that word." She said sitting back down
"I'm sure it was in his vocabulary before he got here." Candice smiled "He was how old when his Mom passed?"
Zoe looked at Wade and he thought "I think 10 months."
"Yeah he had that word, just transferred it to you." She smiled "and it fits very well." She put her hand on Zoe's shoulder. "I'm proud you, both of you." She smiled at Wade
"Thanks" Zoe smiled back
"Now if you don't mind I need to go freshen up and then maybe we could go to your bar, get dinner?"
"Sounds great." Wade smiled
"I can't wait to see what you have done with the place."
"Not much has been changed." He chuckled
She smiled and got up from the couch. "I'll be back in a little bit."
After she left Zoe let out a long breath and slumped back on the couch. "That was a lot."
Wade leaned back as well and put his hand on her knee. "Yeah, I don't know what else could be said the entire time she's here."
"Oh she'll find stuff, maybe our sex life some more."
"Or lack thereof." Wade joked
"Well, that seems to be changing one night this week." She wiggled her eyebrows and kissed him
"Can it be tonight?"
"We'll see how he is the rest of the day." She smirked
"You better be good little man. Daddy needs some alone time with the Doc."
"Wade, don't tell him that." She swatted at his arm
"What it's the truth." He chuckled and kissed Zoe's head "Now let's get ready for dinner."
