Chapter Thirteen

Derek's POV

Flashback Stiles seven Derek eleven

Stiles was prepping me for our fourth fake wedding this month. Ever since he saw my cousin's wedding in the back yard he's been marrying us every chance he got usually the family barbeque on Saturday, when his mom and dad came over and had a family lunch with us. It was a tradition we'd done every summer for as long as I can remember and Stiles had been joining us since the day we meet in the park over a year ago, his parents joining us only this past year after mom harassed the Sheriff into letting Mr. Stilinski have this shift off. Stiles ran over to me thrusting a bouquet of flowers into my hands, "Hold this while I tie the ribbon Cora and Laura are doing mine." Stiles told me. "Can I ask you something without you getting mad at me?" I asked doing as he said. "Sure." My mate shrugged, "Why do you keep doing these weddings? Not that I don't mind it's fun." I asked. "I heard mom and dad talking. She's getting worse, the doctors think she only has a few more months. I want her to see me get married, and with her memories disappearing I wanna make sure she never forgets." Stiles told me and wiped a tear from his eyes. "Then we might as well do as many as we can." I told him as I ruffled his hair. Stiles smiled up at me brighter than I'd seen in weeks making me smile in return.

"Mom why can't you turn Claudia into a werewolf?" I asked as Stiles ran around showing everyone this week's ring pop. "She's too far gone her mind and body are too weak to accept the bite." Mom told me. "I talked to her about it. I wanted to try but when I saw her medical file I knew it wouldn't work." Mom smiled sadly at me. "But I promised her that if Stiles ever got it we'd try the bite before reaching the point of no return as long as that's what he would want." I froze at that. "Stiles could get this?" I asked. She nodded a sad smile on her face, "Statistically speaking he has a higher chance of getting it than someone else." I hugged her trying not to think about Stiles and death together. "What's wrong?" came Stiles worried voice beside me. "Derek's just sad because of something I said." Mom told him. "Don't make my Derek sad Mrs. Talia!" Stiles gapped and hugged me. "I didn't do it on purpose." Mom told him. "Oh, it was an accident." Stiles nodded, "Sorry Mrs. Talia for getting mad with you." "It's okay pup." Mom kissed his cheek and left to go get some food.

Stiles made me play freeze tag with him and Cora, Laura joined us when Stiles dragged her in saying it wasn't fair to Derek being the only big kid in our game. Eventually Stiles passed out in my lap before we could set off the fireworks, his favorite part. "Hey Stiles it's time to wake up pup." I said running my fingers through his hair I liked having it long because I could do this very thing so did Stiles but he had to cut it short for sports. I coached his little league team with dad and it would fall into his eyes when he got sweaty so I suggested he cut it shorter when he did sports which generally left it buzz cut length except in the summer when he let it grow out when we really didn't have any sports. Stiles smiled me time for the fireworks?" he asked, "Yeah it is pup." I told him helping him sit up. "Are we still going to the park tomorrow morning?" he asked me I nodded "Stiles you know I can't say no to you." I ruffled his hair as the first firework shot into the air.

I was teaching Stiles basketball when some guys from my team showed up, "Hey Derek who's the kid I thought you had a little sister." One of the guys said and another elbowed him, "No I've seen him at the games before with Derek's family." "I'm Stiles! Derek's my best friend!" Stiles announced as he tried dribbling the ball. "He's teaching me how to play basketball." Stiles gave the team a toothy smile. "What's he taught you so far?" Jake asked Stiles and the two started talking as the Captain snorted. "Dude the way you talked about Stiles we thought he was your girlfriend or something." I gritted my teeth. "No Stiles is my friend. I watch him on the weekends and while his dad works I help his mom out with him." I told them. Jake whooped with Stiles on his one shoulder cheering. "Derek! Jake helped me do a slam dunk!" Stiles said running over to me. I smiled brightly and high fived him, "Great job Sty!" I handed him the ball, "Why don't you and Jake go pass the ball back and forth a bit I'll be right over." "But I wanna play with you Derek!" Stiles grabbed my hands and tried to pull me over. "In second Stiles, okay I promise I'm in the middle of a conversation and it'd be rude to just leave halfway through." I told him he made a face but walked over to Jake. "Don't worry your little girlfriend wants you, go on ya perv. Don't worry we'll play somewhere else. Come on guys let's leave the little pedo and his girlfriend alone." Mike, the captain, snorted. All of a sudden, a basketball hit him in the side of the head I looked over to Jake and Stiles. Jake had a hand over his mouth in shock and Stiles looked pissed. "Don't talk about Derek like that!" he yelled no fear of the older boy in his eyes as he stormed over to me. "Derek is my best friend! He's not a perv or a pedophile! You've got a sick mind if you think any different! Just leave him alone!" Stiles was fuming as the team not wanting to fight a kid left Mike in a huff, "See you Monday Hale." "No, you won't if you hurt Derek I'll find out and then I'll tell my dad who works at the sheriff's department as a deputy, because if you hurt Derek that's assault or harassment if you use your words and that's against the law." Stiles warned I bit my lip hiding my smile. Stiles protecting me was the best thing I'd ever seen. I hugged him when Jake left with the rest of the team. "How about milk shakes and curly fries before we meet up with your mom?" I asked him Stiles anger drained from his face and a bright smile appeared. "Yesss!" Stiles picked up the ball and tossed it to me, "We probably should never tell your dad about what happened here. He might start thinking I'm a bad influence on you." Stiles laughed at that. "nah he thinks you'll be a good influence on me." Stiles smirked. "Alright mischief maker I think your dad might be right." I teased.

Present Day

I gasped awake and looked around me. The school was gone I looked down at my chest and saw the blood and ripped shirt. I pulled the shirt up and looked over my chest seeing the pink scars. I heard sirens nearby. "Stiles." I got up and made my way towards the school. I could hear Stiles he was getting close to having a panic attack. "Scott get one of the paramedics tell them Stiles is having a panic attack." The sheriff ordered the pup. I tried walking the rest of the way and passed out from pain.

It was daylight when I woke up again this time I made my way to my car to drive to Stiles house.
