Did you guys miss me? You probably stopped missing me after the first week, am I right? I'm so super-duper sorry for abandoning you guys. I've been working on twenty-three different stories (on both Fanfiction and Fictionpress). I know it's no excuse, but I am sorry. Anyway, I'm back! Thanks and enjoy Drama is as Drama Does.
Drama is as Drama Does
Drama class was the bane of Spike's existence.
Seriously, why did he even sign up for it? It was worse than Home Ec.! How had he been convinced to take the stupid class? Oh right: Jessica Isles. Spike had heard from Chase, who had heard from Hope, that Jessica was planning on taking drama this semester. Spike couldn't pass up the chance to knowingly sign up for a class she was taking, so he hadn't thought twice before deciding on drama.
What a joke.
At first, Spike acted like the class was no big deal. Sure, the class was weird and the teacher even weirder, but he could deal with it. And sure, Chase and Hope were both in the class as well, but Spike could easily ignore them. It was worth it to him to see Jessica every day. (Not that he harbored a deep and meaningful crush on her. No, they were just friends.)
But then came the skits.
Skits were the worst! The students would pair up and pick a random script out of a pile the teacher had set up. They then had two weeks –two weeks –to practice before they had to perform in front of the entire class. The only good thing was that Mr. Edelstein let them choose their partners, so Spike could pair up with Jessica every time. At least until today.
"There is a change of plans for your skit this time," the strict teacher announced at the beginning of class. "Instead of just two of you doing a skit together, there shall be four. Choose your partners wisely. This skit will determine a large portion of your total grade in my class."
The classed murmured quietly with anticipation. Well, everyone but Spike. Instead, he groaned in annoyance. Four people?! That meant he'd probably team up with Jessica, Hope, and Chase. Great, that's exactly what he wanted to do. Not.
Jessica seemed happy about it though. "I've been wanting to do something with my sis for a while, freak," she mentioned to Spike as they made their way over to their twins.
"Really? Then why haven't you?" he grumbled.
Jessica laughed. "Because you would've had to do a romantic piece with your brother, and I'd have to do one with my sister. Talk about gross!"
Spike chuckled. That would have been awkward, now that he thought about it. Once they met up with Chase and Hope, the four of them made their way to Mr. Edelstein. The man barely glanced at them over the top of his glasses before handing them a script. How rude.
The two sets of twins looked over the script with different reactions. Hope thought it was super romantic, Chase thought it was cliché, Jessica scoffed at the overly dramatic bit right at the end, and Spike wondered aloud how he had been stupid enough to want to take this class in the first place.
But the show must go on, as they say.
As the due date for their skit loomed closer, the two sets of twins sort of freaked out a little bit. Not Spike, of course, just Chase and the girls. No, Spike wasn't worried at all, if his constant run-through of his lines was anything to go by. Alright, so maybe he was a little nervous. Could anyone blame him? He didn't like performing in front of people!
When the day finally came, Spike was nearly a nervous wreck. He had no idea if he'd be able to impress anyone, let alone Jessica, with his acting skills. And it didn't help that Adam kept picking on him about it, either.
"Aw, is da widdle Spiky-wiky nervous?" Adam teased that morning before school.
Spike glared at his older brother. "I will hurt you," he warned.
"Haha!" Adam laughed, putting his arm around his little brother's neck and rubbing his knuckles a bit roughly atop Spike's head. "Noogie noogie noogie!" he chuckled.
Spike growled menacingly, but the threat went right over the eldest Davenport teen's head. Eventually Adam let him go, distracted by something shiny –it turned out to be a fork –allowing Spike to make his escape. Now to get in some more practice before school started.
"Action!" Mr. Edelstein called.
Spike took a deep breath. This was it. He stood behind the curtain, worried if he'd be able to do this. Wait a minute, he was Spike Davenport! He could do anything he set his mind to! And he'd be damned if he let one stupid school play psyche him out.
With newfound confidence, Spike began reciting his lines.
"Jessica?" he called out –they were supposed to substitute their real names for the ones used in the skit.
Hope walked out onstage, looking nervous. It was part of her character, but it was still odd to see the happy, carefree teen looking so nervous.
"Um, hey Spike," she greeted.
"Hi Jessica," he replied, even though he knew it was really her twin. The play was basically two cases of mistaken identity that resulted in two different relationships. It wasn't all that dissimilar to how they met, actually. Just minus the nicknames and plus a lot of mushy romantic crap, of course.
By the end of the skit, Spike knew he was going to ace it. The biggest clue was the occasional tearful sniffle from some of the girls watching. When they finally finished, the two sets of twins stood in the center of the stage and bowed.
"This was fun, freak," Jessica whispered with a smirk.
"Sure, princess. We should make it a regular thing," Spike replied sarcastically.
Okay, so not my best work, but oh well. I promised someone I'd write something where the Davenport twins were in a play. I know Chase wasn't featured much here, but again, oh well. Thanks for reading!
