"Thirteenth Squad"
Please enjoy and review!
Two days had passed by with me sitting in this room talking with Hanataro when he came to deliver food and Isane who cleaned my stiches.
During this time I was going insane by being stuck in this damned room, so I started doing some workouts to keep active and even learned more about that attack I used.
Apparently, my Arashi no Hana was made to look like a storm of blue flower petals to trick the enemy into a sense of them being safe.
Then they find out the hard way that once the petals touch them, they get burned and if they try to escape, the storm closes in on them, blocking out the access points and the petals burn hotter.
Sounds cool, right?
Plus, Kiseki keeps gloating over how Rukia said that she was the most beautiful fire based zanpakuto in existence.
That fox has got a big head when she gets one compliment, but I love her, she's fun to talk too and she's tough.
Kiskei no Kitsune actually reminds me of my sister.
Anyway, Hanataro told me that he also cleaned Rukia's cell where she was being kept until her sentence was carried out.
She was supposed to be getting executed in a month and I hated the fact that I just had to sit here and do nothing while she was chained up waiting for the people she used to be friends with turned their backs on her and allowed her to be killed.
Finally, Isane came into the room with a woman who had dark brown hair that was pulled to the front of her body tied into a braid and she had kind eyes.
"Daisuke, I am Captain Retsu Unohana of the fourth squad. I hope you enjoyed staying in my barracks." She smiled.
"I have, thanks. So, since you're here, I'm guessing my trial is today." I guessed.
"Head Captain Yamamoto decided to meet with you privately to speak. Please follow me and I'll escort you there." Retsu said.
Nodding, I got up and stretched my stiff body out, then placed my zanpakuto back on around my back.
We then walked out of the room, going down the hallway as the people of the fourth squad bowed in greeting to Retsu as we walked by them
I looked around at the Soul Reapers as we went by them and saw that most of them appeared to be in their teenage years to their forties even.
There were walls that were made of marble and had yellow roofs on top that made paths that we walked down and it reminded me of a maze.
"Fascinating is it not?" Retsu asked me.
"Yeah, it's pretty cool, I guess. Mostly, I'm just happy to be out of that room. I hate being cooped up." I sighed taking in the fresh air.
She chuckled at that as we walked up to a large white building; two guards at the doors were opening them up for us as we went inside.
As we ventured inside, I could feel a powerful presence inside and it felt hot, burning hot.
"This Yamamoto guy must be another fire user." Kiseki commented.
"How can I hear or even sense other Soul Reapers' zanpakutos? It seems weird." I asked her as Restu led me up a staircase.
"I'm not sure. I guess it's a gift of mine. Or maybe it's just you. After all, you were able to hear them before you knew I existed." The silvery blue fox mused.
"Daisuke, are you all right?" Retsu asked making me snap out of my conversation and look at her.
"Sorry, what?" I asked.
"You seemed deep in thought. We're here now." Retsu announced making me look at the door.
The doors then opened up to reveal a large room that had a tall old man sitting down, his head bald while he had a long white beard and mustache.
In his hands was a wooden walking stick that was very large and had a source of heat coming off of it.
It must be his zanpakuto's sealed form.
"Head Captain, I've brought Daisuke Motomiya to you." Retsu bowed to him respectively.
"Thank you, Unohana. You may leave now." He told her.
She nodded and left the room, doors closing behind me and leaving me alone with the old man who had a hell of a lot of power hidden inside of him.
"Miss Motomiya, please, come closer. Let me look at you." he gestured me forward.
I complied and walked closer to him, his power becoming stronger as I heard the cry of a bird coming from his staff and I stopped in front of him, seeing he towered over me even when sitting.
He pushed himself up and walked over to me, looking me over.
"A living human child who became a Soul Reaper. A strange occurrence, but not unheard of. Though, they mostly are Substitutes. Quite curious." He boomed in his voice.
He then sat down and motioned for me to do the same and so I sat on my knees as I looked up at him, unsure of what he wanted.
Yamamoto chuckled as he saw my confused look.
"Worry not; you aren't in trouble, though you existing has brought up many questions. We aren't sure what to do with you and how you even exist." Yamamoto informed.
"So, what are you going to do? Kill me or something?" I asked.
"Why would you ask that?" he asked.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe because you guys have a reputation of having a genocide of other spiritual beings. The Quincies and Mod Souls for example." I crossed my arms.
Okay, giving him attitude is a bad thing and very dumb, but you have to admit; constantly killing things they can't control or understand properly in just horrible.
Yamamoto blinked at that, then chuckled as he stroked his long beard which confused me as I blinked owlishly up at him.
"You certainly know your history. I apologize that past occurrences has made you think that we would simply kill you, but I assure you, you will not be killed." He said.
"Then why am I here?" I asked.
"We are fascinated by you. And Byakuya Kuchiki did bring you here, insisting that all Soul Reapers belong in the Soul Society. But, you are still alive. Do not worry, you will be returned home." The old man assured.
"That's great!" I cheered jumping to my feet.
"But," he held up a finger.
"I should've seen that coming. There's always a condition." I pouted making his eyes shine in amusement.
"You are to stay here and train. Based on the reports we've gotten about you, you're very new and need to train your powers better. According to Seido, you could possibly be a prodigy." He said.
"Oh, yeah, how is Seido?" I asked remembering the Soul Reaper from a while ago.
"He's fine. Now, I have arranged for one of the captains to come take you to his squad and supervise your training." He said.
"For how long?" I asked.
"It should be at least a month or two. You need guidance and the captain I've chosen will suit you fine." He promised.
Okay, if this guy is so nice, then why the hell has this place been earning itself a bad reputation from other spiritual beings?
"Now, why don't you tell me how you came to become a Soul Reaper in the first place until he comes?" He requested.
Seeing that there was nothing better to do, I nodded and sat back down.
"Well, it started since I was kid. I was always able to see and sense spirits, but it got better the older I got. Then, last year, was the first time I saw a Hollow, but I didn't know what it was at the time." I began.
He nodded at this as he listened to what I was saying and I relaxed at this.
(Thirty-two minutes later…)
There was a knock at the door making me turn to it when I sensed the new presence there after I finished my story of how I was attacked by a Hollow, the Soul Reaper who saved me, then how Kiseki had slowly started talking to me.
Funny thing is, when I spoke about the Soul Reaper, Yamamoto had this strange look on his face, but I shrugged it off.
"Come in." Yamamoto called.
The door opened up and a man in his thirties or so walked in with a kind smile on his face.
His long reached all the way down his back and was bleach white while his eyes were a coffee brown color and he wore a captain's cloak.
"Sorry I'm late, sir, but I haven' been too well. My third seats just woke me up not too long ago." he apologized.
"It's all right, Jushiro. Now, this is the girl I told you about." Yamamoto said as we both stood up.
Jushiro looked over at me and shock filled his eyes as he looked me over which confused me, but he quickly hid it with a cough and weak smile.
What was that about?
"Well now, this is the new Reaper who took out the Lieutenant of squad six?" he asked.
"In my defence, he was trying to kill the people I love." I pointed out making him chuckle.
"Sounds logical to me." he said.
I like this guy; he has a really kind aura around him.
"Daisuke, Jushiro Ukitake is the Captain of the thirteenth squad. You will be staying with him for you time being to train." Yamamoto informed.
"Sounds good to me." I smiled as I walked over to Jushiro's side and stood next to him.
"Now, Jushiro, I expect a progress report on her advancement, understood?" the Head Captain asked.
"Yes, sir, don't worry. Daisuke will be safe under my watch." Jushiro assured, then coughed and sighed weakly.
I sweat dropped at this along with Yamamoto.
What was that about taking care of me?
He's the one who looks like he needs to be watched from falling over dead.
"Right. Ah-hem. Good luck in your training then." Yamamoto dismissed us.
"Thank you, sir." Jushiro nodded.
"Bye!" I waved as we walked out.
We walked out of the building and then headed off into the streets and people bowed or greeted Jushiro kindly as he waved and chuckled kindly at them.
"So, what exactly am I supposed to do?" I asked him.
Coffee colored eyes looked down at me with a happy, yet sad look which made me blink in confusion at him.
"Well, do you know any kido spells?" he asked.
I thought back to the binding spell Rukia used on Ichigo on the first day we ever met and then the Pit Fire Crack attack she used on that Hollow who was after Yuichi and finally that black dog of Randini thing on Grand Fisher.
"Nope." I shook my head.
"Then we'll start on that." He said making me whine and he chuckled.
"But they're so long and they don't even work too well." I grumbled.
"You're saying this from experience? Well, they might not have much effect on some Hollows, but they do help to give you a distraction to go in for the attack. Knowing kido is helpful in case your zanpakuto is knocked from your hands." Jushiro explained.
"I guess that's a good point. How many kido spells are there to learn?" I asked.
"Well, if you add in the healing spells along with the attacks and some defense…" he trailed off.
"On second thought, I don't wanna know." I interjected.
"Why not?" he asked.
"I have a feeling if you tell me, I might start crying." I answered making him laugh.
As we walked, I sensed a familiar icy aura and stopped, looking over to see where it came from, but all I saw was a white cloak and zanpakuto strapped to the back of a person disappearing around the corner of a building while a tall voluptuous woman with long strawberry blonde hair chased after the person wearing the cloak.
What was that?
"Holy hell, I just saw the most handsome zanpakuto ever!" Kiseki gushed.
"Huh? You mean you can see what the spirits of other zanpakuto look like?" I asked her.
"Well, duh, and that guy was handsome. We are so meeting the captain with that zanpakuto." My fox said as I saw her tail and ears twitch mischievously.
Oh, great, she has a crush.
"Daisuke, try to keep up now." Jushiro called making me snap back to attention and look over at him.
"Sorry." I called running up to his side as we continued on.
To be continued…
