A/N: And so it's sad to see it end, but I have enjoyed the ride on this story. I've decided there will be no epilogue to this story, but you may see Akihiko in the future. He is a character I love. So to all my fans of A New Beginning I want to say thank you. And enjoy the final chapter.

Chapter 14 Moving on to New Beginnings

With no sign of their mates, both Kagome and Resuri decided to move on. They couldn't wait and chance getting caught. "How much more do we have to go Resuri?" Kagome asked as she carefully walked. The trees were thicker here giving them better cover from the army. Resuri didn't answer her, she only placed a finger over her lips. Meaning they needed to stay very quiet.

It was then they heard something moving in the brush. Kagome held her breath not knowing what to do. 'Was this the end? Would she never see her mate again or...' Her thoughts stopped when she heard her husband's voice. "Damn this thick brush. It's so hard to move." Kagome smiled, it was so good to hear her mate's complaining voice. However when InuYasha came into view carrying Akihiko on his back, relief turned to fear again.

Kagome and Resuri quickly made their way to InuYasha. "Oh InuYasha, what happened?" Kagome asked, as tears threatened to fall. She could see the blood and knew her son was seriously hurt.

"Those bastards caught Akihiko and Hailee off guard while they were out talking. Me and Alex were discussing some things at the time I didn't smell the army till I heard the shots fired." InuYasha gently moved Akihiko giving Kagome a better look at the wound. With his eyes focused on his mate and son, InuYasha then started telling Resuri that her mate wouldn't be joining them. "I'm sorry but I couldn't save him. It was all I could do to save ourselves."

Resuri's heart stopped at his words. They were so close to being safe and now at the last day of the jeorney she lost him. Tears soon filled her eyes as the loss set in. "Oh Alex, why now we were so close."

"Over this way men!"

They all froze. Hailee was the one who took action this time. With out saying a word she waved the group on. Resuri still in shock, shook her head to clear her mind. They needed to move on time was running out. After all if she gave up now more would die. She was the only one who knew the way to the secret passage.

They moved quickly through the thick brush. Thorns would cut them as they moved, now wasn't the time to worry about minor cuts though. Resuri took the lead again followed by Kagome, InuYasha who was still carrying Akihiko, and Hailee behind them. Soon gun fire exploded all around then. Hailee cried out as a bullet hit her in the back of her right shoulder. She fell landing hard on her side. "InuYasha, they got Hailee!" Kagome cried out.

InuYasha was about to turn back for her when something happened. He stopped for only a second when he heard a growl and noticed Akihiko no longer on his back. Kagome noticed it before anyone else that her son's demon blood had taken over. 'Hurry back with your mate my son.' Kagome thought, as she watched her son head back to Hailee.

With his clawed hands InuYasha quickly pick Kagome up and kept following Resuri. As much as he wanted to help his son, now wasn't the time. Getting Kagome to safety was first priority. "InuYasha, what about Akihiko and Hailee? We can't just leave them and save ourselves." Kagome cried, fearing that their only son would be killed.

"There's nothing I can do Kagome, his demon blood has taken over. We both know he'll kill anyone who tries stop him. All we can do is hope they both survive." But even though InuYasha was telling his mate one thing. His heart wanted nothing more then to save his only son.

Akihiko ran like lightening to the smell of his future mates blood. He knew nothing else but to kill. His body had completely transformed. His black hair was now silver, his fangs and claws were longer. And the biggest giveaway to his demon side was his blood red eyes with purple irises. Purple jagged marks where on his cheeks as well. As he ran a deadly growl could be heard the closer he got to his mate.

"Looks like you got one Sargent. To bad it wasn't one of the demons." The general complained. He looked down at Hailee in disgust. So far they didn't stop the ones he really wanted. He gave Hailee a kick to her side. "Get up wench, or I'll finish you off."

Hailee laid still, her right shoulder burned from the gun shot wound. She heard somethings click, then something strange. When she looked back all she saw was the sargent laying in a pool of blood. Soon she heard men screaming and then she saw him. "AKIHIKO, NO!" Hailee yelled. His body was covered in blood. His clothing ripped and his hiking boots gone. She knew this was his demon side in full. Now she needed to get him to listen to her so he would stop killing. She called out to him again and this time he looked her way. "Akihiko, it's me Hailee. Please I'm okay you don't need to kill anymore. Let's just leave here."

His vision was blurry, but he heard her voice clearly. "Hail..ee.." He quietly spoke her name. His demon blood was stronger then before and he couldn't keep his mind in order. Hailee could see him fighting with his inner self. And knew he needed help.

With everything she had Hailee started crawling on her hands and knees. The pain was unbelievable, but still she crawled. "Akihiko, hang in there...I'm coming.." With her mind set on Akihiko, Hailee refused to give up.

With every inch closer Hailee got to Akihiko, he could feel his mind get a little clearer. He soon found his own feet moving closer to her. And before long Akihiko had Hailee in his arms holding her tight. "Oh Hailee, I thought I lost you." Akihiko said, as a few tears fell.

With his mind back, but still in his half demon form. Akihiko carried Hailee as fast as he could back to the others. "It's a good thing I'm in my half demon form, otherwise I wouldn't be able to smell their scent." Akihiko looked down at Hailee and saw she was half asleep. "Stay with me dearest, I'm going as fast as I can." His arms pulled her closer, as if to let her know she was safe forever.

"Akihiko!, over here." He looked and saw his father waving to get his attention. "I see you're both safe. Come on we need to keep going it's not far now." Akihiko nodded to his father and continued on.

"Come it's through this cave." Resuri said, pointing to a small cave. "The passageway is through here. It's about a mile down then we'll go through a barrier. I must warn you InuYasha and Akihiko. Only a being with demon blood running through their veins can pass through this barrier. Kagome and Hailee must drink some of your blood in order to pass."

Akihiko thought about what Rasuri had said. "Father, isn't that part of the mating ceremony?" He looked down at Hailee wondering if it was the right thing to do. She gave him a fant smile, letting him know if that was what needed to happen she would gladly do it.

They were halfway through the cave when a gun fired. "You fools thought you were safe, but now it's all over. I'll finally finish what my family started all those years ago." The general smiled as he ready his gun.

It was Akihiko who took action. He handed Hailee to his father and moved in front. The first bullet missed him, but the next two pierced his arm then his leg. Still he fought to protect his family. And just when he thought his life was over he heard his father's voice.

"Wind scar!" InuYasha called out as his mighty sword sliced through the cave. Rocks fell and the cave was sealed between Akihiko and the outside world. "Keh, it's over now." InuYasha said, sheathing his sword. He quickly made it to his son helping him up.

His voice was weak and blood still flowed from the gun shot wounds. "Father, I...don't...think." But his words were silence by his father's growl.

"Don't say such things. Your mate needs you alive, besides what kind of father would I be letting my son just give up like that." With a smile on both their faces father and son soon made it their mates. Well future mate in Akihiko's case.

Soon they all arrived at the barrier. Resuri was the first to enter followed by Kagome and InuYasha. Akihiko now somewhat able to stand and Hailee leaning on him a little looked on ahead. "Well Akihiko I guess this is our new beginning. A different place sealed from the outside world. Are you sure you want me with you forever?"

With out saying a word he claimed her lips. After parting he gave her a smile. "There is no one else my demon side wants to protect. Besides I think this well be one adventure we both will enjoy."

With out another word she drank some of his blood and they entered the barrier. Before them was miles of forest and open fields. "Oh Akihiko, it's so beautiful." Hailee exclaimed with pure delight. It was Kagome who brought them to the here and now.

"Come on you two I need to clean those wounds. And we need to find a place to rest." Akihiko agreed and they soon found a spot to camp for the night.

It was now the second day in the new place and both families had started settling in to their new homes. Resuri had lead them to a small village where two huts stood not far apart. Akihiko and Hailee decided to marry in the fall and InuYasha was starting to like having Hailee as a daughter in-law. Everything was coming together now. And Hailee was more then happy. Though she did wonder what her sister was up to. One night while Hailee and Akihiko set and watched the stars she started thinking about her sister and wished to see her again. It was Akihiko who left Hailee know that someday they would return. But for now it was safer here.
