A/n: So this is Aiyanna's point of view from what happens while Kevin is passed out
Sorry if it seems a little weird that I did them in this order.
Ch.13: Numb Pt.1
I picked up the pace to my grandfathers house until I saw them.
Quil Ateara and Embry Call came walking out of the forest with cautious eyes carrying someone. At first I just kept running and shrugged it off, but I came to an abrupt stop when I noticed the face of the limp body in their arms; it was Kevin.
My heart tightened and I felt all the air in my lungs escape quickly.
"Kevin!" I cried; swollen tears falling down my cheeks.
I ran to them but Embry put his hand up in my face. "Aiyanna, he's bleeding and needs his rest. He has a broken wrist and we're taking him to your grandfathers, please go get the Uleys."
I nodded my head slowly and choked back my tears. Before I even thought about what I was doing I was running towards their house screaming.
"Mr. and Mrs. Uley," I shouted; tears filling my eyes again. "Please, Kevin's hurt!"
The door to their house flew open and Emily stood in the doorway, wiping her hands on her apron. "Aiyanna, what's the matter?"
I ran into her arms sobbing, "Kevin…hurt…bleeding," I choked out slowly.
She wiped the hair out of my face and looked me in the eyes, "dear calm down, I can't understand you."
I wiped my eyes with the back of my hand and coughed horribly. He looked lifeless in Quil's arms and my chest tightened again at the thought.
"Mrs. Uley, Kevin's been injured. Quil and Embry brought him to my grandfathers' house." I said sadly.
Emily's hand covered her mouth and she shook her head in disbelief. "No..no.." she whispered.
She fell to her knees and started crying, wrapping her arms around my waist. "Sam!" she croaked.
Sam came running out of their bedroom and looked at what I'm sure was a depressing sight of me and Emily sobbing on the front porch. His eyes grew wide and his eyebrows furrowed together.
"What's happened?" He asked; grabbing Emily's shoulders.
"Kevin's been injured in the woods." I sobbed. I wiped at my eyes again and looked back at them.
The way Sam looked at Emily was something anyone would envy; his eyes were filled with nothing but pure love. He hugged her tightly and looked back at me, his expression contemplative.
"Where is he?" He asked; his gaze fixated on the trees.
"They took him to Grandpa Black's," I replied.
He began to unbutton his shirt and looked at Emily, "You go make sure he's alright, I'll be there soon." He kissed her lightly on the forehead and took off running for the forest.
Emily grabbed onto my arm, "Will you go with me?" She asked softly, "I don't think I have the strength to see him hurting alone."
I helped her to her feet and walked with her slowly towards my grandpa's house, "Of course."
The walk to my grandfather's house was silent – other than the few sobs that escaped our throats every once in a while, and we lightly rapped on his door when we arrived.
"Come on in," I heard from the other side of the door; a voice I recognized as Seth Clearwater's.
I turned the knob gently and helped Emily through the door, closing it soundly behind us. Emily looked at Seth with questioning eyes and he nodded at her once like they were having a secret conversation.
"It was an animal attack," she breathed.
I remembered the howl from earlier when I had been sitting at the table arguing with my father about Kevin, did a wolf do this to him? Seth's voice interrupted my thought process.
"He's in Jakes' old room," he said solemnly. "He got torn up pretty badly, but he seems to be healing just fine."
We walked into my fathers' old room and found my grandfather, Quil, and Embry talking quietly amongst each other; stopping when they looked up and saw us.
"Anna bird," my grandfather said; reaching his arms out into an embrace.
I walked over to him and hugged him tightly –the tears forming in my eyes again, and took a seat on his lap.
My grandfather was a man with long black hair, a broad face, and he had been confined to a wheelchair since before I was born.
"Emily the…animal, did quite a number on him." He said; his voice echoing in the room. "But your boy has got Sam's fighting spirit. He'll be better in no time."
I looked over at Kevin and gasped. His usual russet-colored skin was pale and fluctuating. His hair was damp with sweat and he was covered in bruises and scrapes – large bandages covering some parts of his body, and his wrist had a bandage tightly secured around it. I got up from Grandpa Billy's lap and walked over to my poor best friend.
"He doesn't look good at all," I breathed; lightly caressing his beaten up face. He had bruises around his lips and scrapes on his face. Seeing Kevin in such a horrific state made me slowly begin to feel numb.
"Aiyanna, maybe you should call your mother and ask if you could stay the night here." Emily said; putting her hands on my shoulders. "I know Kevin would want you to be here when he wakes up from this."
I looked at Kevin again and kissed his forehead gently – pulling out my phone from my pocket, and dialed my moms' number. I wanted to be there when he opened his eyes again, I had to be here.
I stood up and made my way to the dining room, the phone just kept ringing. Finally I heard a click on the other end.
"Aiyanna, where are you?" my mom said frustrated into the phone.
"Mom, I'm at Grandpa Billy's and I was wondering if I could stay the night. Kevin's been injured." I replied.
My mom sat silently on the phone with me for a few seconds, "Okay baby, but you still need to go to school." She sighed finally.
"I know mom, promise." I said, "I love you."
"I love you too. You have clothes at Billy's right?" She asked.
I walked back into my fathers' old room and peered into the closet, thankful that a few of my things were still in there from the last time I stayed. "Yeah, I have a few things left over from last time."
"Okay, I'm sorry about Kevin. Tell Emily I'll be over at their house later." And then she hung up the phone.
Everyone in my life seemed to be acting strange the last few days. I shoved the phone back into my pocket and looked at Emily who was rubbing Kevin's arm.
"My mom said she'll be stopping by your house later," I said gently.
"I should probably go back there and wait for Sam, see if they found the…animal," she sobbed.
She stood up and kissed Kevin on the cheek – glancing back at me. "Please take care of him Aiyanna. I'll be back in the morning to take the next shift." She smiled weakly.
She softly closed the door and I turned off the light. I laid down on the bed next to my best friend and gripped his bandaged hand in mine - whispering a Quileute lullaby in his ear, until I drifted off to sleep.
I woke up to the rays of the early morning sun still holding Kevin's weak hand.
I stretched and let out a sigh – rolling over and looking at the alarm clock, and I suddenly became frantic; I had ten minutes to get to my bus stop.
I crawled out of the bed as fast as I could and started stripping off my clothes. Kevin was still out cold but his face looked completely healed. I grabbed for the flowing black skirt and the deep blue tunic in the closet and slipped them on , tripping out of the room as I threw on my sneakers.
"Anna bird, why are you in such a hurry?" my grandfather piped from the living room.
"Sorry Grandpa Billy, I'm going to be late for school!" I said, grabbing a piece of toast off of the counter as I spoke.
"Well slow your roll, catch" he said and he threw a pair of keys at me.
I caught them – practically falling over to do so, and then looked at him curiously.
"What are these for?" I asked confused.
"I wasn't supposed to give you this until your seventeenth birthday, but a little early won't be too bad, right?" He said with a twinkle in his eye.
I wanted to be excited because I put two and two together, but I really could feel no drastic emotions with Kevin's state. "You got me a car?"
He shook his head laughing, "No Anna bird your dad built a car from one we already had."
I had my license for six months already but getting a car seemed like a dream that would never come true. I smiled at my grandfather and ran over to give him a hug.
"It's in the old garage, have a good day." He said; kissing me on the cheek.
I skipped down the stairs and ran to the old garage as fast as I could. The twigs cracked under my feet and I slowly opened the rusted door and stared at the covered car. I stood there for a while, just staring, but I finally let the anxiety get to me. I pulled the protective cover off and my mouth flopped open; it was a 67 Chevelle SS, my dream car.
I lightly ran my hand over the light blue chipping paint and let out a squeal. I remembered all the summers I had spent with my dad in this old garage when he taught me all kinds of things about cars, and I told him I wanted this one more than anything. It was perfect!
I unlocked the door and sat on the fawn interior seats, gripping the steering wheel with a huge grin on my face. My dad and I loved the classic cars and this one was my all-time favorite. I shoved the keys in the ignition and allowed the engine to rumble to life, stepping on the gas peddle to hear it thunder. Sure, it wasn't in the best condition, but it was by far the best car to me; I would have to thank my dad for this later.
I strapped on my seat belt and in no time at all I was barreling down the highway on route to Forks High. I rolled the windows down and let the wind whip at my hair as I cranked up the radio – thankful that the radio still even worked.
The song Paralyzer by Finger Eleven came on and I started singing the words, Edward Cullen coming to my mind. I thought back to the dream I had on the bus and I felt the electricity run across my skin. I didn't dream last night. It was the first time in a month that I had no nightmares or dreams, I just slept. I shrugged the thought off and cranked up the song as I pulled off the highway and up to Forks High, ready to start another long and confusing day.
I sat in my car until the song ended and then I quickly gathered my things – pulling the keys out of the ignition and opening the door. I brushed myself off as I climbed out and locked the door to the car, a smile still on my face. It was hard to still wrap my mind around the fact that I had a car.
I closed the door lightly – being respectful to the classic, and went to walk towards the buildings, when I ran into the cold, hard chest of someone.
"I'm so sorry; I wasn't paying attention because I was excited about my new car." I said flustered and staring at the ground.
"It's okay, but it isn't exactly a new car," the velvety voice said; a disapproving exaggeration on the word new.
I sighed loudly as I looked over at the car parked next to mine, a shiny silver Volvo.
"Well, I'll personally take a classic over a brand new toy any day," I said rudely; when my eyes met the familiar amber irises of Edward Cullen.
I felt like the person in the song described when I stared into his eyes, they were mesmerizing.
"So you know about cars, eh?" he laughed. Even his laugh was perfect.
"My dad builds them," I said; still staring at his eyes.
His eyes seemed to grow sad when I mentioned my dad, but a smirk quickly spread across his face.
"Have lunch with my family and I this afternoon." He said; his amber eyes glowing.
I felt drawn to Edward Cullen for some reason and his smile was dazzling. I blushed a deep red and I felt his cool hand touch my warm cheek.
"Sure," I breathed; a current of electricity passing over my skin as he lightly grazed it.
My knees trembled and I leaned back against my car. How did he make me feel this way?
He looked down at me and laughed casually. "Until we meet again," he said bowing as he spoke.
I waved at him gently, unable to speak, and took in a deep breath of fresh air. I began walking to my class – the numb feeling returning again as I thought about Kevin, but a part of me bounced with excitement about the idea of seeing Edward Cullen later today.
So, there you have it. I split this up into two parts because it spans over a period of three days, a little hard to shove everything into one chapter.
I'll have the second part up by tonight. No worries!
Thanks for the support, I love all of you!
Reviews are awesome. Let me know what you think!
