Chapter 14

A 'Tour' and This Happiness

"Where are we going again?" Rei asked.

"The mall" was Kai's simple reply.

"O~kay, why the mall?"

"We're buying a new phone."

"For who?"

"You."

"Oh." Rei blinked and gulped.

Everything happened too quickly that his mind was getting left behind. And in just a few minutes of driving, Kai had already flawlessly parked the car, got Rei out and towed him again into the mall. The spaced out raven just obediently allowed to be tugged along.

"Welcome, how may I help you?" a beautiful lady welcomed them as they entered a certain cell phone shop.

"Oh uh we're looking for a─"

"Where are your latest models?" Kai interrupted.

"Right this way sir" The lady kindly led them to a certain area where all the new models of their phones were displayed.

Rei picked one of the phones that caught his interest. He clicked it open and browsed through it.

"What a great choice sir, that one is our best seller. That model has only just been released yesterday" the saleslady smiled.

"No wonder it's a best seller, the features are awesome!" Rei exclaimed, "How much is it?"

"Oh it is very affordable, this model costs $3000" the saleslady beamed.

Rei's mouth ran dry and his hair turned white. "3000 dollars?! That's more than 300,000 yen!"

Rei shook his head and carefully placed the phone back on its stand.

"I-I'll settle for a cheaper one. One that costs probably around 10,000 yen only" Rei lowered his head and walked away from that area.

"We'll take it" Kai said. Rei's eyes widened and looked back at Kai.

"We're taking two" Kai added. The saleslady nodded her head and proceeded to the cash register. An assistant brought the two phones to be punched in.

"W-Wait!" Rei exclaimed and grabbed the cell phone box, "K-Kai, I can't buy this! I mean, there's no way I can pay for this!"

"I didn't say anything about you buying it."

"Oh, I thought you were buying this one for me."

"I am. The other one is mine."

Rei's eyes widened once more.

"N-N-No! You can't do that Kai!" Rei panicked and hugged the cell phone box to his chest.

"Rei…"

"I'm telling you Kai, you can't buy this for me. It's way too expensive! I don't know how many cakes and pastries I'll have to bake to pay you back!"

"I never said anything about paying me back. I'm giving it to you."

"What? No way!"

"Rei, give the phone back to the clerk and let her punch it in."

"I said no way! I-I'll pick another one! T-That one, that one looks nicer!" Rei said and pointed randomly to a giant phone display.

Kai rolled his eyes. "Rei, if you don't give her the phone right now, I'll kiss you."

Rei blushed up to his ears. The other few customers, who were all female, and even the staff, giggled when they heard that. Rei blushed even more.

"Y-You wouldn't. We're in public─"

And there went Rei's lips… along with the shrieking and loud giggling.

The two left the shop with the salesladies happily waving their hands at them. Rei walked timidly beside Kai, hugging the bag with the phones in it to his chest. Kai on the other hand walked coolly next to him.

"Do you eat seafood?" Kai asked.

"S-Seafood?"

"There's a restaurant not too far from here, they serve delicious lobsters and fish there."

"Fish?" Rei's eyes glittered. Kai cocked an amused eyebrow. Rei realized how excited he must've looked and immediately tried to regain his poise.

"I-I mean, yeah sure, whatever" he coughed. Kai stifled a laughter that only came out as a light chuckle. Rei blushed in embarrassment.

"Okay then" Kai said and took Rei's hands in his and they made their way back to the car.

It was a nice restaurant. The ambient just shouted "I am a high-class restaurant fit for royals only, commoners not allowed." Rei stared at the three-floor building painted in dark magenta with gold. He watched as few expensive looking cars arrived and few high-class looking people came out of them. They looked so elegant and graceful that there's no doubt they were some kind of VIPs. And to think he'll be dining in there. Butterflies were beginning to appear in Rei's stomach. He wants to back out and suggest another restaurant to his companion but there were two things stopping him: one, Kai was a VIP and that restaurant just fit him perfectly and two, the fish.

Kai pulled into a space in the parking lot and killed the engine. As he was removing his seatbelt he noticed the worried and panicked look on the kitten's face. After some seconds of thought, he started the engine again. Rei was startled.

"Why'd you start it again?"

"We can just dine somewhere else" Kai replied.

"What? Why?"

"Because you look like you've seen a ghost when you looked at the building."

"Did I look that pale?" Rei worried and cupped his face.

How can a guy be so… adorable? And to think that was the same comment Miguel said earlier."It's okay, let's go somewhere else. Where do you want to eat?" Kai smiled.

Rei saw it and how he fell in love with that sweet, charming smile. He knew Kai was thinking about him and he appreciated that.

"It's alright, I kinda wanna try eating at a restaurant like this. Oh and I want the lobsters" Rei beamed reassuringly.

"You sure?"

"Yep, besides, I'm a VIP as well. I'm an owner of a famous bake shop you know" Rei mocked proudly.

"Right" Kai chuckled and killed the engine again. He threw the keys into his pocket and he and Rei got off the car.

If the outside already screamed 'luxurious', the inside just exploded with grandness. Huge glass windows covered went from the ceiling to the marble floors under a maroon carpet. There were tables covered with red and white decorated tablecloths. A large and magnificent crystal chandelier hanged from the center of the ceiling. It emitted beautiful rainbow colors because if its crystals. Rei felt his jaw drop. He's never really been to a place like that and the last hotel he was in because of a baking competition was not even on par with that restaurant.

Kai noticed his awestruck expression and let out a light chuckle. He took the Chinese's hand and escorted him to a vacant table in one of the more private areas. A waited came to them and brought them the menu books.

"What would you like Rei?"

"Um, I don't really mind anything. You can choose for me" Rei said still looking around him, examining every decoration and marvelling at it.

Kai chuckled again. He called for the waiter. "We'll have your special dish" he said.

"Right away sir."

"Do you always eat here?" Rei asked finally returning his attention to his companion.

"Only on special occasions."

"I see." Were you always accompanied by someone? Rei wanted to ask but hesitated that it might sound too inquisitive. A few seconds of awkward silence came over them. It was because Rei was too shy to start a conversation but actually, he just didn't know how he would start it. There was nothing to talk about between them after all.

In the end, Rei couldn't take the atmosphere anymore and spoke up. "U-Uh, so, what sort of occasions?" Not really the best thing to say to start a conversation since it was a little late as a follow-up question from the one earlier but still.

"Just the usual occasions you can expect, like birthdays, anniversaries…"

"Birthday? So, you've spent your birthdays here?"

"Yes, since the year I came to Japan. Tala and Bryan insisted that we try this restaurant one time when we were in a business trip. It just so happened that it was my birthday."

His birthday, I wonder when it is.

"So ever since then you've celebrated here."

"Pretty much. This restaurant is also close to a lot of onsens so after having dinner here, we usually go there and stay for two to three nights."

"Wow, must be nice. I think the last time I was in an onsen was about four years ago after winning in a lottery."

"Do you want to go?"

"Go?"

"I can take you to a nice onsen if you want. It's the one we frequent."

"Really?" Rei beamed.

"Sure" Kai smiled. It was that sweet smile again. Rei blushed up to his ears and avoided Kai's eyes.

And then Rei finally realized something.

"It's like were in a date or something. Just kidding" Rei laughed.

"We are" Kai said coolly and accepted their orders as the waiters brought them.

Rei blushed even more.

"W-W-We are?" he stuttered.

"What else would you call this?"

Rei hesitated and thought of something. "A tour?"

Kai blinked for a second at the innocent raven and then laughed.

"Alright, whatever you say" he said when his laughter died down. He poured wines on their glasses.

"To this tour" he raised. Rei laughed as well.

"To this awesome tour!"

Rei filled himself completely until his stomach was bloated and he could hardly move. The food was delicious! There were big salmons, oysters, mussels and Rei's new favourite, the big red lobster. Rei drank his last glass of red wine before giving out a light burp.

"Excuse me" he blushed.

Kai was very amused which was evident with the small but cheerful smile planted on his face. It's been years since he last felt that happiness. Not even the company of Tala or Bryan or even his sister could make him feel what he was feeling now that he was with Rei. His gaze softened as he looked at the younger male. How nice would it be to spend his life with someone like Rei; someone so innocent but isn't naïve, sweet but is capable of being feisty, someone who cared more for others but knew how to stand up for himself and someone who could smile and be positive at whatever situation.

He was absolutely Kai's opposite. It would've been impossible but people do say that opposites attract. Maybe he was waiting for someone like Rei all along.

But of course there were several certain issues that had to be considered. And first and above them all was that they were of the same gender. The world isn't that open yet to fully accept such relationships and him being a company president, a respected role model for many and a person with a high social status and image to protect, it wouldn't be a walk in the park.

But if his status would be the hindrance to this happiness, then Kai was pretty much willing to let go of it. It wouldn't be easy but it's something a part of him had also been wishing for. A normal life.

The two then left the restaurant after paying their bill. Rei noticed the thick and gloomy clouds that had formed while they were eating. It only meant that it will be raining and by the looks of it, it would be a pretty hard one.

"We'll probably have to cancel barbeque night" Rei thought aloud.

"Right, Tachibana said something about that." Kai started the engine and they were soon on the road.

Slowly droplets of rain started to fall. It was light at first until it fell harder and harder. Soon the roads were too wet to drive on and the atmosphere had become too humid. Kai could barely see his way.

"It's probably a storm. We're gonna have to stay somewhere else, it'll be dangerous if we keep going. The road's too slippery" Kai said.

"But where will we stay?"

"Well looks like you'll be going to that onsen a little early."

Kai pointed at a signboard not too far from them where the name of the onsen he usually visited.

"Alright" Rei agreed and Kai drove into the parking lot.
