London, May 1723
We headed towards St. Paul's Cathedral as fast our legs could carry us. We had to stop frequently because of Anne's wounds. I kept asking her if she wanted rest and let me handle this and everytime she refused. She said that she would never forgive herself if she wasn't able to save Jenny. And that she made a promise to Jenny that she would save her.
Once we reached the cathedral and made inside to the hideout, I was somewhat relieved that it was still in one piece and that we must have made it here first. I asked for Joseph.
"I'm here Edward. What's wrong?"
Anne told him everything. About how Thomas betrayed us, kidnapped our daughter and they were planning an attack on the base. He took the betrayal pretty hard but he took the fact that they had kidnapped Jenny even worse. With him being a father himself and all that. But he was a little relieved when he found out that I had the book.
"So what do we do now, Joseph?"
"The first order of business is to prepare for invasion. The Templars will be here in full force and we need ti be ready."
"What about my daughter? Isn't she more important?"
"Of course she is Edward. But if we dont prepare for the Templars we won't be able to find Jenny. They'll kill every Assassin unless we stop them. You understand?"
"Yes. What would you have us do?"
"Get into position. We need to have the element of surprise when they arrive."
We hid behind walls, on top of scaffolds and blew out all torches that we had. If we were going to win, we needed them to believe that the place was cursed and that it would be suicide to attack. And even if they were to attack, we had the home field advantage. We geared up and wore black suits instead of our typical white uniforms. All we had to now was wait. And it looks like we didn't have to wait long.
We heard the doors opening and I heard a voices.
"Are you sure this is place Thomas?"
"Positive. This is where the Assassins headquarters are located. I should know this is where we lived."
"All right. You better hope that they are here, for your sake. Someone get a light on in here. I want to send a small team first. You. Take ten of your best men and find the Assassins."
Someone grabbed a torch and lit it on fire. They couldn't light more of them because we got rid of the other torches. I heard footsteps approaching and saw them walking right underneath us. Once the door was closed, I knew we could take them. Luckly they weren't packed together. At least not yet. I snuck right behind them and stabbed two of them. Anne used the blowpipe I gave her and used it to send one of them into a deep sleep. Long enough that I could take him out. Tina grabbed someone from behind a wall broke his neck. Joseph jumped from a scaffold and did an aerial attack. He killed two them and slinked into the shadows once again. Anne killed another by stabbing him in the throat when she hid behind a wall. And I killed another one when I stabbed in the chest with my sword. In the end we ended up killing all but one of them. He ran back to the door as quickly as he could run and said to his friends:
"They're here! They were expecting us! We never stood a chance! If you go in there, you will die. That isn't a church! It's a gateway to hell!"
He was silenced by another man.
"I thought you said that they wouldn't be expecting us Thomas!"
"They weren't! I don't know how this happened!"
"I think you set us up!"
"No! I would never! My duty is to the Order!"
"We'll finish this discussion after we deal with the assassins. Let's get in there."
Some of the men hesitated. We clearly had a good number of them scared. Any who refused to enter were killed by the others. In total about 30 men entered the building. Once again, once the door was closed we had them at our mercy. And just like before we started picking them off, one by one. Once they reached the main room, only 15 of them survived. When all of them where in the room, a voice shouted:
"NOW!"
We jumped on all the enemy forces and killed all of them. They barely put up a fight. The only we left alive for the moment was Thomas. Joseph wanted to deal with him, but let me handle him because I needed to know where they took Jenny.
"Where...is...my daughter, Thomas?"
"Go to hell Edward. I ain't telling you shit."
"You first."
I stabbed him in the chest with my hidden blade.
"I'll ask again. WHERE IS SHE?!"
"Wow Edward, I don't I've ever seen you so serious before or thought you would things so personally."
"You made this personal when you kidnapped my daughter and when you wounded my wife."
"Oh is that right. Is she dead?"
He then felt an intense pain. Anne had kicked him in the balls and said.
"No. You failed Thomas. I still live. Now tell me where my daughter is or I'll kick you again with the sharp end of my boots."
"The only thing I'll tell you is that she's still in the city. Aside from that I have nothing else to tell you."
"One last I need to know before I kill you...why betray us?"
"Let's just say that the Templars have a very powerful ally and it seemed the best thing to join forces. And that's all you're going to get from me."
I was about to kill him when Anne asked to do it. I figured that she needed to het back at him for what he did to her. And who was I to deny her that? Anne stabbed him in the neck with her hidden blade and closed his eyes.
"Rest in peace you bastard."
I asked Joseph:
"What do we do now? Can we start looking for Jenny?"
"I want to Edward but we need to get rid of these bodies and you guys need rest. Get some sleep and I'll have my men look around for any of Thomas's men. Once we know where we can find them, I'll let you know and you can go them her back."
"Okay. But I have one request."
"What's that Edward?"
"This is family business. I want only me and Anne to kill these bastards. Do not deny us our rights to save our daughter."
"Understood Edward. Now both of you get some sleep. You're going to need it."
They let us sleep in their headquarters while they cleaned up. But we had a time falling alseep wondering if we were ever going to see our little girl again. No. I had to put all doubts aside and keep praying that she was okay and that we would find her soon.
