WELCOME TO THE FAMILY

"Why are you pouting like that, Angel?" Darien asked as he looked up.
"No reason." Serena stated with a roll of her eyes.
"I don't believe you." Darien stated as he frowned as her. "Angel, I know you're stressed but you're nine months pregnant and it's ok."

Darien placed the business documents on the desk, and stood from his chair walking over to his pregnant wife. Serena was waddling around the room with a small pout, as she walked back and forth, and stopped as Darien walked over and pulled her into his side. At nine months pregnant, Serena was beautiful to him even with her heavily pregnant stomach, as Darien placed a kiss on the side of her head.

"I just want him out." Serena gasped as she shivered in his arms. "I feel like he's playing soccer with my bladder in there."
"He'll be out when it's time." Darien stated with a smile. "You remember what the doctor said, didn't you?"
"Of course, but he likes it inside mommy because it's comfortable." Serena sighed as she curled into him. "That's why he doesn't want to come out."

Serena blushed when Darien placed a delicate kiss on top of her lips, knowing that they were still acting like they were newly married each and every day. They had been married for about a full year now, and in the fifth month of their marriage, Serena had brought joyous news to the family of her two month pregnancy. Every month that passed by in their marriage had only drawn them closer to each other, even after Serena had miscarried on the day that they had married.

"Hey there, little one, we'll be expecting you soon." Darien spoke to her stomach.
"He can't hear you, Dimi." Serena laughed brightly as she looked at her husband. "But it is cute to see you like this."
"Of course he can." Darien stated as he looked up at her. "Don't listen to your mother, little one, and don't stress her too much."
"I love you." Serena sighed.

Darien pulled her into her arms, and placed a passionate kiss on her lips, which she had moaned into before she groaned at the feeling of their son kicking inside her. The couple pulled apart as Serena rested her head against his chest, knowing that Darien still loved her. In the earlier stages of their marriage, prior to the honeymoon period when she had miscarried, Serena had wandered around the house feeling like she had done something wrong and the whole family was against her, even her in-laws. Darien, Drake and Suzanne had put an end to that when they had cornered her one day before the family sent the newlyweds off onto the honeymoon they had missed.

Serena felt the twinges of backache, begin and started to rub her back, as she moved away from Darien and began to walk around again. Her face was red and her breathing was becoming heavier by the minute, like she was about to go into labour. Darien caught the change and watched as she moved stiffly, knowing that the doctors had warned them about Serena's pregnancy.

"Sweetie, what's wrong?" Darien asked, as he stood in front of her.
"I've got cramps, Dimi." Serena moaned as she hissed in slight pain. **Oh, please not now. **
"Why don't we go and see mum and Aunt Serenity?" Darien asked, beginning to rub her back. **I wish I could take this away from you, darling. **
"I'll be fine up here, Dimi." Serena gasped as she paced around the room continuously.
"You'll feel better." Darien stated as an afterthought. "And it will keep your mind off the approaching date of our little one."
"Hmm, they're downstairs." Serena stated as a question.

Darien nodded, and the couple made their way out of the bedroom, not being aware that a plug of mucus was on the floor where Serena was stood. The labour process had begun, even as the duo made their way downstairs to speak to their mothers and Serena gave a slight yawn as the first contractors began to hit her, and light wince flickered across her features as her pain threshold began to lower.

"Was she getting bored?" Gaea asked; as she caught her son and daughter-in-law appears.
"It's been a long nine months, mother." Darien scowled, as he led his wife into the room. "Trust me; I'm looking forward to when Tyler makes his appearance."
"You'll be a father soon." Gaea chuckled with a shake of her head. "Don't worry too much; your son will appear when it's time."
"If it continues past another week, the doctor states that they'll have to induce her." Darien sighed as his eyes followed his wife's movements across the room. "I really hope it doesn't lead to that point."

Darien scowled even as Serena began to waddle around again, not wanting to stay in one place, as a hand was resting over her abdomen awaiting the time when she would be able to greet her son, and hold him in her arms. Gaea raised a slender eyebrow, before chuckling, and waved for Darien to sit down even as his wife wandered around the room.

"Darien, take a seat." Gaea stated as she glanced at her daughter-in-law.
"I'm worried, mama." Darien cursed as he rubbed his forehead. "Tyler hasn't made his appearance yet and Serena's already nine months pregnant, and overdue with each passing day."
"Darien, relax, your son and wife will be fine." Gaea rested a hand on her son's shoulder. "The doctor did say that any issues to mother and son, and they would need to operate in case Tyler doesn't show in the next couple of days, induce or caesarean like you mentioned."
"How did dad act when you had us, mum?" Darien asked, as his eyes followed his wife.

Gaea smiled, and followed her son's gaze, which landed on the form of his wife. It had been a different and difficult month for both Serena and everyone else, with the due date being overdue with each passing day, knowing that it wracked Serena's nerves that she could not hold her son in her arms. They knew from earlier appointments, any pregnancy that Serena had would be difficult when the due date neared due to the fact of the events from her childhood, especially with the attack that took her innocence away during the darkest period of Boston's power outage and isolation from the main grids.

"Your father acted over protectively." Gaea stated, and pulled his attention away. "It was like I was going to break because I was fragile, carrying you and your bother to full term."
"I'm surprised he didn't break." Serenity chuckled as she stepped out of the kitchen.
"Jonathan acted worse than Edward." Gaea scowled as she looked back at her friend. "I swear if Auntie Nicola and Auntie Maria weren't there, who knew what would have happened."

Serenity shook her head, and remembered exactly what her friend was talking about. If it wasn't the fact that both her mother and mother-in-law had to intervene when the girls were born, she didn't know what would have happened. Serena had been born with a near heart problem, and needed oxygen from the moment she was born, and it was a frightening stage to nearly lose her eldest daughter. Jonathan knew when he held a baby Serena, which they had been close to losing her in the labour stage and had been grateful that she had survived.

"I didn't know that." Darien furrowed his brow.
"That's why they've been visiting their parents." Gaea chuckled as she shook her head. "They didn't want to face the same with Serena's pregnancy."
"Darien, labour is a crucial stage for mother and child." Serenity stated, as she carried off from her best friend. "If there is danger to the mother during that time, there will be tension in the birth."

Darien nodded.

It didn't take long until the sound of glass breaking as it hit the floor had caught their attention, coming from the area where Serena was stood. Darien looked up and noticed the pool of water near Serena's legs and began to curse, as he moved over to her, being careful to take her away from the cracked glass on the floor. Gaea and Serenity caught Serena's look, and nodded at each other, before Serenity moved to collect Serena's bag from upstairs, and Gaea went to call the hospital. Serena was heaving and clutched at the table chair, her face turning red, as Darien caught her knowing that her contractors were coming closer together.

"Angel, are you ok?" Darien asked, as he reached his wife.
"I think Tyler wants to make his appearance." Serena gasped, with a whimper of pain as she placed her hand against her stomach. "My contractions are coming closer."
"How far apart are they?" Darien asked, as he held her in his arms. **Looks like he wants to appear. **
"When I checked?" Serena asked as she closed her eyes, and upon Darien's nod, gave the answer. "About fifteen minutes, and they are quickly lessening with each passing contraction."

Darien remembered what the doctor had said on Serena's last check-up, and they'd advised that if contractions were at fifteen minutes apart, to call up the hospital, if Serena was in agony. Given the situation, Darien lifted her carefully into his arms, watching as she winced in pain as another contraction hit before Serena buried her face in his shirt and her grip tightened significantly. Remembering the exercises that she had learnt, Serena took deep breaths in and out to calm her, ensuring she was ready when her next contraction would hit her.

"Mother, did you call up the hospital?" Darien asked, as he held his wife.
"That's been done, Darien." Gaea called as she stepped up to the couple. "They've said to bring her to the hospital and get her admitted."
"We need to move then." Darien muttered as he moved over to the couch. "Serena's in a load of pain, and with the contractions drawing quickly together, I don't think we've much time."
"Serenity, hurry up!" Gaea called as she nodded to her son.

A couple of minutes passed before Serenity made her appearance with Serena's bag, and Gaea raised an eyebrow. Serena whimpered in pain from Darien's arms, and began to breathe in and out to try and lessen the pain. Serena hid her face in Darien's shoulder and gave a gasp, as she clutched tighter to him, listening to their mothers conversing between themselves.

"What took so long?" Gaea looked at her best friend.
"There's a plug of mucus on the floor." Serenity gasped as she ran down the stairs. "I had to clean it, and at the look of things, Serena went into early labour."
"It's before the water breaks, Darien." Gaea answered her son's look.
"Can we go to the hospital now?" Serena asked on a pant.

Darien nodded, and slowly guided Serena out of the house, with their mothers following behind.

Serena was taking several small breaths to control the pain from her contractions, and as she was seated in the car, she bit her lip, when a painful contraction hit. The others took that as the cue to quickly move, and once everything was sorted, Darien quickly drove to the hospital, as Serena held her mother's hand in a tight grip.

"Momma, I want to push." Serena whimpered from the back seat of the car.
"No no dear, just take deep breaths like you learnt." Serenity whispered into her daughter's ear. "You'll have your son in your arms soon enough."
"It hurts." Serena wailed in agony.

When they reached the hospital, Serena had been wheeled straight into maternity and her family were taken to a waiting room whilst they waited on news from the doctor. After two hours had passed, since Serena's contractions had started, and only thirty minutes since Darien had been called into his wife's hospital room, they were still none the wiser as to what was happening. When they'd arrived at the hospital, Vanessa, Suzanne and Drake were called and informed of the current status and they were pulled out of their classes or jobs, informing their younger siblings of the same, since Serena's contractions were five minutes apart when they'd reached.

"Could it be any longer?" Serenity muttered as she began to pace in the room.
"Serenity, I'm sure we'll hear something soon about that." Gaea whispered as she looked at her friend. **Oh, I hope everything's ok. **
"Mama, it will be fine." Suzanne whispered from the corner. "This is Serena we are talking about."

About ten minutes later, the group of four looked up as a nurse entered the room and approached them, a newborn's wail echoing in the halls behind her. Gaea and Serenity worried, as the nurse stopped in front of them and Suzanne was curled into Drake's arms, worried for her sister and nephew.

"Mrs. Moon." A nurse called as she stepped into the room.
"Yes that's me." Serenity stood from her seat.
"Are you Serena's relatives?" The nurse asked, motioning to the others.
"I'm her mother." Serenity paled as she looked at the nurse. "Gaea is her mother-in-law, and the other two are her sister and brother-in-law."
"Is there a problem, nurse?" Gaea asked with worry.

The nurse smiled and shook her head, motioning to the wails of the newborn that had been silenced, bending her head in a way that said congratulations.

"We'd just like to inform you two that you are now grandmothers to a healthy baby boy." The nurse smiled.

Serenity fell back onto the chair at the news from the nurse, even as Suzanne and Drake chuckled at the look on her face. The nurse blinked, as she watched Serenity fall into laughter, and wrap her arms around Gaea, as happiness lit their eyes at the news of the birth of the new arrival. Their grandson had finally made his appearance after a long and treacherous nine months for everyone including the mother.

"Can we see them, nurse?" Suzanne asked as she jumped up. "Can I see my sister?"
"Yes, you may." The nurse smiled with a nod.
"Nurse, how is my daughter?" Serenity asked as the thought came to mind.
"Mrs. Chiba had slight complications when you brought her in." The nurse sighed, as she remembered it. "She's alright but will need to be kept under observation."

Serenity nodded, knowing what it may have been related to.

The nurse moved to the door and knew that the others were following close behind. She walked through silent hallways, and knocked on the door to the room, where Serena was. The nurse smiled, and watched as the small group entered, and came across the sight of Darien holding his newborn son in his arms, as he sat on the couch next to Serena's bedside. Serena was fast asleep in the bed, exhaustion clearly visible on her soft features, but a smile was on her lips, though the son in Darien's arms was quietly looking around at his new surroundings.

"Oh Darien, he's lovely." Serenity whispered as she bent down.

Darien looked up with a light smile, and nodded his head, flexing his fingers slightly and turned to look at the newborn in his arms that was getting familiar with his surroundings. Their son's hand caught his finger in a small grip, before he yawned and his dark blue eyes turned to stare at the new occupants of his room.

"What did you name him?" Suzanne asked, as she stared at her nephew. **Oh he's so cute. **

Darien chuckled, as he looked up at his sister-in-law.

"His mother named him." Darien smiled, as he held his son. "His name is Tyler Prescott James Chiba."
"He'll be a heart breaker." Drake chuckled, as he looked down at his brother's child.
**Much like we were, when we chose the girls as our other halves. ** Drake thought as he shared a look with his brother. **He's so innocent, much like his mother. **

Darien smirked, and shook his head, they would both have to teach him that there was only one woman that he would love, outside of his mother, aunts and grandmothers and that was the woman he would marry. As Darien looked up at the bed, where Serena slept peacefully, he knew the labour process had been difficult and the doctors were frightened of the risk to both mother and son, that they were nearly in the mindset to operate and get a C section performed, but Serena stamped on that though and gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

"We'll have to teach him." Darien stated softly as his son yawned again. "Don't break too many hearts."
"Choose the right one at first go." Vanessa put her two cents in with a chuckle.
"What?" Darien and Drake gaped, as they looked over at her.
"Oh come on." Vanessa pouted, as she crossed her arms over her chest. **My brothers are lovesick, with their girls. **
"You fell for the girls from the minute they opened their eyes." Vanessa stated as she shook her head. "It was Hook, line and sinker."

Darien and Drake groaned as they looked over at their sister, knowing she was telling the truth. Serenity smiled, and looked down at the peaceful face, that was covered by the blue blanket. A curl of charcoal grey hair popped out of the blanket and Serenity knew it was mix of the white of his mother's hair, and ebony black of his father's hair.

"When did Serena fall asleep?" Gaea asked, as she looked over at her daughter-in-law.
"Only a couple of minutes ago, mother." Darien whispered, as he rocked his son.
"Did she feed Tyler?" Serenity asked.

Darien nodded, as he stood from his seat, and handed his son off into his mother's arms.

"She was tired after the birth." Darien muttered, as he walked over to his wife's bedside. "The doctor says she'll need to stay under observation for 24 to 48 hours, to ensure that there are no issues."
"You'll stay here, won't you?" Drake stated, as Serena opened her eyes.
"I'm not going to leave." Darien whispered, as he ran a hand down his wife's cheek.
**I don't care what is thrown your way, Angel; I'll stay by your side. ** Darien thought with a vengeance. **The Council can go and screw themselves for all I care. **

As he settled at the end of his wife's bed, he had been promised not to inform the others of the Council's wishes for her, and he would keep that promise until his last breath or until the day they parted for good. Serena gave a yawn and stretched her arms as she opened her eyes, and gave a gentle smile at everyone present in the room.

"Darien, get some rest." Serenity whispered as she smiled at her daughter.
"I will once they take Tyler to the nursery." Darien muttered and looked down, smiling at his wife. "It's been a long day."
"You'll stay by her side?" Serenity asked as Serena shifted.
"Yes Auntie." Darien whispered, as he turned back to his wife.

Serenity smiled, and with a nod, Gaea handed over Tyler into his maternal grandmother's arms. A wail broke through his lips once he caught the fact that his mother was awake, and wanted to be with her. Darien chuckled and jumped off the bed, walking over to Serenity and cradling Tyler in his arms, he moved back to where Serena was awake in the bed and watching the fun with amusement in her blue eyes.

"I need to call Edward and let him know the news." Gaea smiled as she watched her son.
"Tell him to let Jonathan know as well." Serenity called before turning back to the lovely scene. "They'll want to know they have a healthy grandson."

As her eyes landed on Serena's form with Tyler and Darien before leaving the room, Gaea knew that the peace wouldn't last, and that one day, possibly in the near future, relationships would break and emotions would be put on the line. Serena was next in the list of the High Council, and their orders couldn't break for anything.

Though the happiness had lasted for a couple of years for them, it would end, as Serena would put her family's protection above her own happiness. Her heart would break to separate from her family and her son, but she couldn't and wouldn't refuse, not by the orders of the higher council team.
