Lisa had withdrawn into herself not long after that. Gone was her somewhat happy smile, her laughter, and her carefree attitude. Something that made Kaname both angry about, and quite concerned. He didn't know what he had done wrong- which is where the anger came in- he had simply been trying to help her stay comfortable by giving her the pain medicine. However she didn't seem to care overly much for his efforts. Or if she did- she apparently felt somewhat uneasy about them.

Though he wasn't exactly sure why.

However he had never been an easy man to deter from his chosen course. In fact he had the stubborn tendency to dig in his heels whenever he was really determined about something.

And right now he just wanted answers from his ward. Why had she withdrawn into herself as she had? What had he done? How was he supposed to fix this?

Watching her with crimson eyes as she finished off her food and drink, he wondered if she knew just how close to the surface his inner beast was right now. She glanced at him for a moment, but quickly looked away. Which could be for any reason really.

Nervousness. Anxiety. Fear.

But none of those seemed right to him, she hadn't feared him. Not when he introduced himself nor when she figured out his vampire heritage. Nor had she truly felt anything beyond a little awkwardness towards his person thus far. Which in itself was still a tad bit puzzling to the predator within him. After all he was used to the other things. Things that he could use against others. Things like Nervousness, anxiety, fear, lust, love and other things. He was used to manipulating them as he pleased, to get what he wanted, but with Lisa he had no desire to do anything of the sort.

Besides, to do so to someone that he had claimed as his own or was under his protection- no matter whether he felt he was being provoked in some way or not, or was wholly justified by doing so- was simply dishonorable. Especially since he had no desire to cause her such undue distress of mental or physical harm.

Still... None of that told him a damn thing about why she was not enjoying herself as she had been prior to being given her medicine.

Lightly drumming his fingertips on the table for a moment, he waited for her to say something. And when it became apparent that she didn't want to say anything, he sighed and asked, "Why have you left me?" She looked at him again, her eyes wide at the slight note of accusation she heard within his voice.

"I-I'm sorry?" She stammered as she went to avert her eyes from him again, causing him to inwardly growl very softly as he reached out with one hand and caught her chin with his fingertips and held her still so that she was looking at nothing but him.

"Your mind. Your thoughts- they have left me. Why is that?" The accusation was no longer in his tone or voice but she still got the distinct feeling that he was trying to accuse her of not paying attention to him.

"I was just thinking." She said after she took a few moments to pry his fingers from her face before she wound up with even more bruises littering her pale skin.

Curious to know why her mind had shifted gears so suddenly, he cocked his head and waited for her to tell him what she had been thinking of as she slowly said. "I don't like pain pills. Every time you force one down my throat, all I can think is- am I going to turn into my older brother? Addicted to something that I never should have been given in the first place? Am I going to ruin my life? Another person's life?" The crimson faded from his eyes as he studied her for a moment before saying.

"That will never happen." He would not allow his ward to become a junkie. Not even accidentally. Certainly not by his own hands. He was not that foolish. Still, she should have voiced her concerns sooner instead of withdrawing from him when he had been enjoying her company.

Despite what many others seemed to think, he did not excel at mind reading.

Finally deciding to change the topic a little bit, he asked her if there was anything else she wished to get while they were out. Only to have her tell him that she was beginning to tire and anything else that she needed to get was best left for another day.

Nodding his head in understanding, he slowly stood up and then held his hand out to her so that he could help her to her feet. Not long after that, they headed back to the car with the rest of the group when Lisa felt as if someone was watching her.

She turned her head in the direction of where she believed the person was at, and caught the bloody colored eyes of a grinning nightmare dressed in blood stained white.

Her steps faltered, her heart beat accelerated, her breathing became erratic. Kaname glanced down at her and noted the changes in her and carefully wrapped an arm around her shoulders, using his hand to force her to look away as he subtly motioned in the direction of the rogue vampire.

Forcing her face to bury itself against his shoulder, Kaname wasted no time in bending down and scooping her up off of her feet and then quickly making his way back to the car just as his ward slowly lost consciousness because she wasn't able to calm herself enough to catch her breath.

The car ride back to Cross Academy was agonizing for Kaname.

Mainly because Lisa had suffered a mental attack form a level-E vampire and at present was still unconscious. The angry male tried to keep a grip on himself but it was quickly becoming a losing battle. And would probably remain so until Lisa awoke again.

Brushing her long dark hair back from her pale face, the king of vampires cradled his ward's small body close to his chest as scarlet eyes stared straight ahead in fury. His mind going over what had happened and enraging him even further.

How dare he! How dare that lowly vampire think to harm what was his!

There was a specific reason why no one with any sense messed with people claimed by the king. Messing with the vampire's claimed came with dire consequences. Consequences that usually led to all kinds of agonizingly painful- and brutal punishments that inevitably led to death.

Kaname had made it clear to the ones that he had sent after the level-E that they were not to kill it. Only to capture it and drag it back to the Academy so that he could kill it himself. Nothing else would appease his bloodlust at this very moment but the demise of the very creature that had dared to attack what was his.

Resting his cool cheek on top of Lisa's head, he lightly rubbed his cheek against her silky hair for a moment and wondered how long she would sleep. And once awake again, how long would visions of the level-E torment her waking and sleeping mind?
