The Way I Are

Chapter Fourteen

"So, you see, Draco and I couldn't possibly continue being partners. It would be inappropriate, given the circumstances," I say to Kingsley, hoping he would understand.

"Under normal circumstances, I would agree with you. However, given the recent lack of desk workers, I might need the two of you to stay together. While I don't like the idea of two of my best Aurors staying partners when they're quite apparently together, at the moment it's my only option. But do stay prepared for when I can separate you two. And keep the relationship out of the office, or I will be forced to relocate one of you," Kingsley says sternly, leaning across his desk toward me, giving me a 'don't mess this up' look.

I sigh. One talk down, one more to go. And somehow, I feel like the second one is going to be much, much harder.

Draco unfortunately isn't going to be accompanying me for this talk either, as right when he left work, Pansy called him with some minor crisis involving Blaise, so he had to leave.

I arrive at the small porch of Mr. Ron Weasley and Mrs. Hermione Granger-Weasley, shaking slightly, wondering how they would react. Ron has never liked Draco and that's what worries me. Somehow I don't see him being very accepting of my being in a relationship with Draco Malfoy.

Nevertheless, I knock slowly on the front door and wait for someone to answer. Thankfully, it's Hermione that does.

"Hey, Harry! What brings you here today?"

"Can I come in? I'd like to talk to you and Ron about something."

"Sure, of course!" Hermione exclaims, perking up at the fact that I had something to share with them.

"Ronald! Come here please! Harry would like to talk to us!"

Hermione and I sit down silently in their family room while I run through the speech I'm about to make in my head.

Ron comes downstairs and sits down next to his wife, taking her hand in his, a look of worry painted on his face.

"How are Rose and Hugo?" I ask, figuring Ron had just put them to bed.

"Great. Sound asleep, both of them. Is everything okay, mate?" Ron asks.

"Everything's more than great. But I don't know how both of you are going to take what I'm about to tell you," Ron and Hermione give me a look that encourages me to go on, so I do. "I know things have been slightly rocky with us since Ginny and I divorced and especially since I came out. I know it came as a shock to you both, just as it did me when I finally accepted it. Hermione, I talked to you when I first started seeing Bailey and you were very accepting, so I hope you can be equally as accepting of the relationship I'm in now. I don't expect either of you to be very happy, but I hope you can grow past that and learn to accept it."

"You've found a boyfriend? Well, that's great, Harry! We're happy for you. And how bad can it be, really? It's not like you're seeing Nott or Malfoy or anything," Ron says, half-way joking, although he has no idea he's hit the nail on the head.

Hermione, at seeing my facial expression, knew exactly what I was about to say. Her smile spreads across her face and she looks at me like she's a proud mother.

"Well, about that, Ron…"

"Oh, Merlin, please don't tell me it is one of those two tossers, Harry," Ron sighs, bowing his head.

"It is. M-Draco, I mean. In fact, although I haven't told him yet, I think I may be falling in love with him. He really is incredible," I can't help but let a smile equally as big as Hermione's make it's way onto my face.

"Harry, I just can't figure out what you see in him. I guess if I was into blokes, he's attractive, but it's the personality I can't figure out. He's rude and arrogant and ignorant and he has no respect for others," Ron states, obviously trying to talk me out of being with Draco.

"Ron, all you see how he was in school. Granted, he was quite an arse, he has grown up. He's grown up so much and into an incredible man. When we were just shagging, I didn't think we were going to end up actually together, but we are. And now that I've told you, I'm going to go see my boyfriend. Thank you for your time, both of you."

"Harry— please don't leave. Ron's just worried. We don't want to see you hurt. If you're going to continue seeing Draco, please just be careful." I nod and stand to leave, kissing Hermione's cheek and shaking Ron's hand as I head out the front door, apparating home quickly.

"So what happened with Pansy and Blaise?" I ask Draco when he arrives at my flat around seven in the evening.

"Quite apparently, Blaise has been coming home late, making Pansy very uneasy, however unnecessarily. Turns out, he was working over-time to be able to afford to take Pansy on a weekend trip to Paris for a belated birthday present. When I left, they were about an inch away from ripping each others' clothes apart. How did things go with the Weasley's?"

"Exactly as I imagined. Hermione was reasonable and Ron tried to convince me to stop seeing you," I laugh lightly, sliding my hands into Draco's back pockets, pulling him flush against me.

"Well, he hasn't succeeded, has he?" Draco asks, knowing full-well that how with how much I wish were in my bedroom, rather than my kitchen, Ron hasn't succeeded at all.

"Not even a little bit," I whisper, pressing my lips to Draco's collarbone, eliciting a low groan from his throat.

After that, we spend a lot of time not talking, and certain not discussing Ron and Hermione.
