"Vampires," I whispered, just before the woman lunged at me faster than I could track with my eyes. The only reason she didn't slice through me was because Danny had pulled me out of the way just before she moved.
"Where do vampires come into Greek mythology?" Jen asked furiously as they all backed up into a circle.
"The closest thing I can think of is empousai, but these are like straight out of the storybook stereotypical vampires!" Sammy told her.
"Do you think they sparkle?" I wondered aloud, eliciting a frightening and unanimous hissing noise from the vampires. "Okay, no then." she stepped back further.
"If stories are anything to go by," Danny whispered, "they shouldn't be able to go out into the sunlight. And sunrise," he checked his digital watch, "should be in about half an hour."
"So basically if we hold out until then we can draw them into the sun and kill them." Jen said.
"They'll likely have to go before then to get to a safe house or whatever, so we just have to keep them at bay for a little less than half an hour."
"That would be a good plan if you weren't going to be dead long before then!" now the man lunged and was swept back by Jen's sword, although not before leaving a gash on the side of my face. I pulled out Mrs. Jackson's knife(which had turned back into a knife, although it kept its black colouring). I knew it wasn't going to be much protection, as the vampires were much faster than me.
Then Nico appeared beside me, glaring at the shadows around us. "They came back." he growled vaguely.
"What do you mean?" I asked him.
"The vampires were banished from the mortal realms years ago," he explained. "It was what they got for surrendering at the end of the last battle with Silene. If she's planning something, she must be pretty confident in her ability to win."
"Right, so how do we survive for another fifteen minutes to stop her?" I demanded.
"There aren't that many here, you should be able to manage," he told me.
"But it sounds like there are a ton!" I practically screamed. "What do you mean there aren't that many?"
"Just look," he told me, "like with the chimaera at that park. See them the way I do."
"I don't know how," I insisted. "I can't."
"Yes you can," he argued. "Just close your eyes." I huffed exasperatedly but obeyed. "Vedere i morti viventi."
I opened my eyes and suddenly I could see life again like I could last time. The vampires didn't glow like we did, they were dull and grey. Living dead.
"Guys," I said. "I have a plan."
I am so sorry for not posting for so long and I am so sorry for the crappy chapter. Sadly though, I probably won't be posting for a while after this. I hope you don't hate me, but once school's out for summer I promise to post a lot more.
Oh, and also, I changed the name of the fic to something I thought was a bit more fitting to the story. If you don't think it's fitting, you probably will by the end of the story.
