Power Rangers – Tainted Stone

Chapter 14: Truth and Consequences

Mentor Jii and the others are sitting and standing around the Gap Sensor table map once the two Yellows get there. Sitting at the head of the table...

"Sensei Watanabe?" Dustin asks, mildly surprised to see that the said man has arrived so soon.

"I was summoned here by none other than my former students," the man replies. "Cameron mentioned a few questions that you have and something about a poison. I have arrived to offer my help to you and to the Samurai Rangers."

"We need to know more about Dustin's dad and his life in the Academy," Hunter responds, solemnly, the reunion quite over and seriousness ready to ensue.

"What would you like to know?"

"The time when my mother created the seal designed for Antis," Emily cuts in. "Dustin and I both had a vision that showed that time frame to us."

"We also need to know more about Antis," Tori adds. "We think Dustin and Emily are still affected by him."

"Affected how? Antis is dead, correct?"

"Well..." Blake slows the conversation down, "Actually, we're not quite sure. Remember that poison we were talking about a week ago, the one that we think was affecting both Dustin and the earth? Well, even though we believe Antis has been defeated, the poison is still affecting both him and Emily."

"Is Antis dead or not?"

"We don't know," Mia speaks up. "That's one of the riddles we need to solve."

"Very well, then," Sensei continues. "Explain these visions to me."

Shane talks before the two Yellows can. "They black out and when someone tries to snap them out of it, they attack that person. When they do come to reality, they can't remember anything except for something we didn't see, something from the past."

"A vision, hmm?" Sensei mutters, deeply thinking. "These visions seemed to be caused by the poison itself. I'll need a sample of this poison so I can run a few tests on it."

"Father, the poison is probably in their bloodstream."

"Then, we'll need a sample of their blood, both of them, individually. We won't need a sample of Antis' remains. We already have his DNA in our database. As for your parents, Dustin and Emily, I will tell you later, in private."

Emily nods and that's the last thing Dustin sees. The scenery changes, from the interior of the Shiba House to the hospital wing of the previous Wind Academy.

"Jake, we can't keep this up any longer," it's Emily's mom. Jake, his father, though younger, is tending to her injuries and possible fever, as he repeatedly wipes her forehead with a wet washcloth. "It's too dangerous. As long as the Nighlock still exist, I cannot rest."

"Lilia..."

"Your friend, Kanoi, he suspects something."

"I'm going to have to tell him very soon."

"W-What? We both swore to keep this relationship a secret."

"He always discovers the truth, Lils. It's no use keeping it a secret from him."

Lilia breathes slowly. "Fine, tell him, but I..."

Jake pauses, sensing that she was hesitating on something. She needed to tell him but was possibly too afraid. "Lils, what's up?"

"I still stand by what I said earlier. We can't keep this up any longer. It's too dangerous."

"Don't worry, Lils. If Antis ever shows his face again, we'll be ready."

"That's not what I meant. Jonathon has a plan, concerning the Sealing Symbol. He hasn't told us yet, but he warned us earlier that whether or not the plan succeeds, he will most likely be killed. Jake, we...we can't keep it up."

She was breaking up with him.

"I understand, Lils."

She gives him a gentle, yet sad smile. "Thank you. I knew you would understand. I'll keep Serena. You can still keep Dustin, but we can't let anyone know that we are their real parents, not even them."

The scene changes again as they share one last kiss, and now Dustin, although a bit shocked and confused, is looking at a newly born baby in Lilia's arms.

"Welcome to the world, little Emily...you have Jake's eyes..."

They are related...

He and Emily, including Serena, really are brother and sister...

But why would their relationship be forbidden?

The scene changes again, and this time it feels real, and it is real, because it is reality. Emily is on top of him, pinning him down, her arms clutching at his shoulders tightly, her right knee digging into the palm of his left hand, her left leg pinning down both of his. It's uncomfortable and he can barely move, but he knows he must have blacked out again.

He doesn't remember, but he knows he went farther than last time.

"Good job, Em," Jayden says cautiously. "You hit all five pressure points perfectly." Just like he taught her, taught them all actually.

"Dustin?" Shane kneels beside his friend's head, the others away from them, with their backs nearly against the wall. Mentor Jii and Sensei Watanabe, however, are both a little closer, observing and thinking about the scene that just went down. "Are you back to your normal self yet, dude?"

"Dude, w-what just happened?" But he already knows the answer, so why is he even asking?

"You blacked out again," Jayden replies, solemnly, but also as if Dustin had done something he highly disagreed with. "You attacked us again, but this time, you went straight for Emily. It didn't matter if anyone else interfered and tried to make you stop, you still went after Emily."

She was trembling, probably in utter fear and shock that she really had to fight him.

And he was speechless. Man, the enemy really must have it bad for the Earth Warriors. "I-I'm sorry..." is all he can say.

Emily releases him and gets off of him, but she's still shaking, not calming down even when Jayden gives her a back rub.

"Hey Em, can I talk to you for a second?" Dustin asks hesitantly, his hands clasped behind his back.

Emily looks up at him from the bench, laying her flute down across her lap. "Sure." She gestures beside her and the other sinks down beside her, shifting. "What's up?"

"Well I'm not exactly sure how to say this…" Dustin trails off, twisting his hands together. Emily doesn't push him, merely sits and waits for him to be comfortable enough to tell her what's on his mind.

"Take your time, Dustin."

Dustin manages a small smile. "I just want to say I'm…I'm sorry."

Emily's eyes flicker to him in confusion. "Sorry? For what?"

"You know…" Dustin waits for Emily to understand but it doesn't look like she does as she is still staring at him in puzzlement. "You know…don't you?"

"I think you're going to have to be more specific, Dustin." Emily tries to think but she can't seem to recall anything that he would have to apologize for. She has her suspicions but she doesn't think it's that big of a deal.

"You know, for attacking you and stuff." Dustin gazes at his shoes, not wanting to meet the other's eyes. "And like, having a vision and everything, making me attack you."

"Dustin…"

"I'm sorry for that."

"You don't have to apologize."

The male ranger lifts his head in surprise. "What?"

Emily has a little half-smile on her face. "It's not your fault. You just shocked me, that's all. And of course I didn't want to hurt you. I wasn't expecting the attack but it's not your fault at all, just threw me off a bit."

"Are you sure? I didn't hurt you or anything?"

"No, you didn't. Trust me, Jayden already checked me before." She laughs a little. "If there was an injury, we would know."

Dustin gazes at her, his expression unreadable. "He really cares for you, you know."

"Hm?" Emily looks up at him from where she was previously staring at her flute. "You mean Jayden?"

"Yeah. I can tell. It's sweet how much he cares for you."

Emily drops her eyes back down to her flute from where she's twirling it around in her hands, a small blush on her face. "I know."

The rest of their time is spent in silence, as Emily leaves it as that.

She can't help but wonder if the enemy really is possessing them, one at a time, so the two of them would try to kill each other. Usually, the monster's spell would break after it was defeated, both lives, but why was Antis' poison still in their veins?

Was he really still alive?
