A/N: So after a loong break I've decided to add a new chapter which means I will not write a finale that soon.

Hope you'll like it!

The beginning is weird because it is supposed to show that Kol is in a shock-state not able to think logical. He is not even able to notice what's happening around him. And there are some Damon interactions and phone calls he completly is blind to.

Chapter 14 - The Test

"There is a saying in the Neverland that, every time you breathe, a grown-up dies."

- J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

Kol felt how all sanity was leaving him.

The waves of rage had reached a climax pushing him into the darkest abyss. The facades of patience he had built on theOther Side were turned to dust within seconds.

With a scream similar to a war-cry he rushed to Bonnie. His hand bored its way to Stefan's heart freeing it from the organic wires and flesh it was connected with. Both Stefan's body and the little organ that was dragged out of his chest fell to the stony soil.

The Original dissipated the imagination.

No. He couldn't do that. He couldn't just kill someone Bonnie called her friend. So he simply had wringed Stefan's neck instead. But the rage was replaced by the most unbecoming feeling he knew – fear.

His eyes were all fixed on the fragile body of the witch lying lifeless in a small pond of blood.

He was drowning in a trance.

Before he knew he was holding his wrist to her mouth. But the blood that was running out of his veins was mocking him. It licked deceitfully at her pale lips down to her chin forming a red trace on the caramel skin. A sight that brought the Original back to reality. She wasn't even able to swallow it. Behind the cold eyes filled with vampiric rage he was fighting. He was fighting the pain that was threatening to burst out of his eyes.

"Drink up, Bonnie", he yelled. Nothing. But Kol was not going to give up. Face even paler than his vampire-typical color, he leaned down to cup her face hoping the touch of his breath on her skin would resurrect her body.

Bloody hell, he thought. She was so cold.

It reminded him of her dead body back at graduation day. Even back then it had felt wrong to see the powerful witch as lifeless as that. And now that he had been able to look underneath her facade of strength and power; Now that he was familiar to the scent of her bronze skin and her wild hair; Now that he would crush the skull of anyone who dared to touch Bonnie; That innocent stitch he had felt back then was magnified than ever. Without knowing, he had built up his new life on her companionship. Like it was his job to follow her wherever she went.

She had to wake up.

There was no other option.

Not because he feared to be lonely. Bonnie Bennett was definitely not some toy he had a right to possess. She had to wake up because she deserved it. She deserved to explore the world and have her happy moments. She deserved to appreciate and exploit her own power instead of seeing it as a burden that led her to sacrifices. Even if she didn't want him at her side all her life Kol would make sure that she got what she deserved.

"Back off, vampire!"

Kol almost jumped at the harsh sound of the voice. A strong woman with long brown hair appeared next to Bonnie. Kol's face hardened. Whoever that was he wouldn't let her-

"I will fix this," the woman interrupted his thoughts. "I'm Lucy Bennett, her cousin."

Somehow that was enough to hold Kol from attacking her. Like he was just relieved to have gained new hope for Bonnie. Calmly, she placed her hands on the place her heart used to beat. "She's not completely out yet," she mumbled almost to herself. "She's suffering." Kol narrowed his eyes. "Make it stop then," he hissed beastly.

Caroline was watching the scenery from the forest edge covering her mouth to stop her sobs. The last moment she had shared with Bonnie was back at The Grille when she had left because of Kol. It had driven her mad to see her ruining her life like that a few hours ago. That's why she had asked Bonnie's dad for the number of Lucy Bennett. A witch Bonnie almost forgot about in the past years. She had hoped that Lucy would talk some sense into her but that intention dropped completely when she saw her best friend in her own blood. She was losing her. Again.

She was losing the only person that had never left her side; Even at a time she used to be a shallow, annoying girl. Bonnie and Caroline had their little fights but they were always connected somehow. No matter how bad Caroline screwed up or Bonnie had gone too harsh on criticizing her. They always had found their way back to each other.

The blonde vampire let out another sob. How could she just let her friend down like that? She should have been happy to have her back from the dead. Instead, she had judged her for being too close to Kol. Her glance slid to Damon who stood next to her with an unreadable face. But she knew that he was not fond of seeing Bonnie like that either.

He hadn't said a word for almost an hour now. Also it had been Damon that called her. He did not say a word about finding Stefan. Just that Bonnie was seriously injured and Kol was in some kind of creepy shock, not able to move a muscle. And he had just left an unconscious Stefan at the Boardinghouse to be here. Proof enough that Damon was shaken by the happenings. No matter what he said, Caroline was positive that he cared about Bonnie.

"What is this?" Kol's voice was sceptical.

Lucy stopped the spell she was mumbling to regard him serenely. "Did you feed her your blood?" Kol's jaw stiffened. Was she implying that she had to make the transition to survive? That there was no other option? He knew exactly what she'd choose. "She has to live," he said scarcely. "Turning her would be a punishment."

Lucy sighed impatiently. "Just answer the question, vampire." Kol ignored her harsh tone. "She still has my blood in her system," he simply answered. "Oh, and I'm a pretty impatient man actually. So I don't care who you are. If you're not going to save her anytime soon I might find myself drowning you to get the frustration out of my system."

It didn't seem to frighten Lucy a bit. Instead, her eyes flickered with amusement like his words had make her realize a fact that was too precious to be shared.

"Bonnie must be in some kind of in-between-world right now," Lucy continued talking while studying the serious expression on his face. "Are you willing to help get her back, vampire?" Kol simply nodded. "Take her blood," she commanded harshely making Caroline protesting from afar.

The Original gave her an angry look. How could she demand that after all the blood she'd already lost? "This is not the time for testing me, witch," he growled. "Listen, Mikaelson, the both of you need to be connected," she spoke in a softer voice. "This is the only way for you to go to the world of the spirits and get her back."

Kol's face hardened. He only had taken a few drops of the sweetness of her blood watching Lucy, ready for the next instructions. "I will send you to the world of the spirits," Lucy explained. "the only place where Bonnie is truly existing at the moment."

She made a pause softening her gaze as it landed on her cousin. "It won't be easy. The spirits will test you. I know how they are. They want every single favour to be earned."

Kol just nodded ignoring the stitch he felt. After taking her blood Bonnie was as pale as a corpse now. He'd never thought it was possible for her soft caramel skin to ever look like that. "Doesn't matter. I will bring her back."

"What do you think you're doing, Quetsiyah?" Sly's voice was far from its typical softness. "Haven't they suffered enough already!" Quetsiyah's smile widened. "The lone wolf cares for the love life of a witch and a vampire? That's sweet!" Sly stepped closer to her clenching his teeth. "What kind of world is this you have put them in?"

She giggled satisfied about provoking him like that. "Where is the sweetness of your voice, Sly?" She had never seen him show his aggravation like this. "And don't be dramatic," she continued. "Even spirits like me need some entertainment."

His eyes darkened and the fact that he was powerless against the ancient witch made him clench his fists. He watched the witch approach the chimney before sitting down in front of it. "I've put them into a parallel world where everything is wrong yet they are blind to it," she whispered.

The reaper knew how much fun she must be having at this point. She had always been a fan of mysteries. He didn't move from his spot when he asked the question that bothered him the most. "And what's their task about?"

Quetsiyah snorted. "I won't tell you that for you are not able to be objective on this one, my dear." She took out some herbs off the pocket of her garment to throw them into the fire. It started dancing wildly.

"Just watch and see if they are worth your support or have to be trapped in that world forever," she said nodding towards the images in the fire.

A/N: So, yeah, couldn't resist the cliche idea of bringing up a parallel universe thing:D The good thing is I can give both Bonnie and Kol a different kind of life. Their location will be still Mystic Falls, though. But be prepaired for some Bonnie interaction with a lot of male characters of TVD;) Just saying..
