"Alright kids, see you later" Via waved at the sixteen years old Cagalli and Athrun as she stepped out of their house. "I left dinner at the table. Just pop them up in the microwave if they get cold and please try not to burn the house down. Cagalli. "She said looking at her daughter. "Ah, and Athrun dear, I'm so sorry that you have to look out for my daughter while we go out" She said apologetically.

"It's okay Aunty Via, Mom insisted I come anyway."He shrugged.

Via smiled appreciatively at him and nodded her head. "Alright" She waved at them one last time and hopped on her mini bug as the two teens waved back at her.

"Yeees! The house is all ours!" Cagalli screamed and ran to the couch bare footed. Athrun stared at her hopelessly and watch her launch herself on the couch and wave her feet up in the air like a three year old in a kiddie pool.

"I am to babysit a kid ugh spare me" He groaned loudly and followed her to the living room. Both their parents were off to a Residence Meeting and they were left alone to watch over their respective houses. since Athrun lives just across the street and Cagalli was a girl alone in a house, someone had to watch over her and He was man for the job.

"Stop your whining. I know you want to hang out with your best friend" A grin spreaded across her face as she switched one channel to another and sat properly on the couch giving Athrun some space to sit on.

"Yeah? who watches Disney movies at seven in the evening" He teased as he plopped down beside her and snatched the remote from her.

"Hey! You do not criticize Disney movies! They are classic!" Cagalli glared at Athrun and tried to reach for the remote but failed.

Athrun chuckled and stuck his tongue out. "Be a good girl and I'll pick a good show for us to watch." He said flicking Cagalli's forehead earning a cuss from her.

Minutes later, the two teenagers settled their argument with rock paper scissors. Winner gets to decide what to watch, loser make the popcorn and clean the dishes afterwards. Athrun wanted to watch either some Action or Horror while Cagalli wanted to watch Disney movies or Adventure time. Much to Cagalli's dismay she lost and soon they settled with a a horror movie. Little by little as the story went deeper into the plot, Cagalli was inching closer to an unsuspecting Athrun. His eyes were completely glued at the heroine running for her life. When Cagalli was close enough to him he turned to her, giving her a good scare at the same time the stupid heroine opened the door in the movie, making Cagalli shriek and fall off to the floor dragging Athrun along with her.

"Shit" She moaned and opened her eyes. All she found was a pair of emerald green eyes staring at her in shock. She blinked several times and stared back the eyes that held the same shade as the greeneries. "Umm.."

Their faces were only a few inches apart and nearly about to kiss each other if it weren't for Athrun's elbows supporting the rest of his weight. He leaned closer and Cagalli closed her eyes. "Athrun...w-wait"

"Gross, you think I'll kiss you when you have a zit on your forehead" He whispered in her ears before getting off her and laughing like a lunatic.

"WHAT?!" Cagalli sat up and slightly blushed in either embarrassment or because of their unexpected accident. The actress in the television let out another shrill scream and made a mad dash out to the woods but Cagalli ignored the movie and frowned at her best friend who was still laughing at her. Her hand flew on her forehead and touched it. "Hey!I don't have anything on my forehead, you idiot"

"Fooled ya!. Man, you're face was priceless, this should go to the hall of fame or something " Athrun said hitting his thigh as he continued to laugh at her.

Cagalli kicked Athrun on the leg and frowned. "Laugh all you want you dimwit! You're not going to get any dinner!" She screamed and stood up heading towards the kitchen with a flushed face.

"Be careful, ghosts might be in the kitchen you know" She heard him say. Almost immediately she stopped on her tracks and walked back to him. "Come with me then"

"What? Need someone to protect you" He teased throwing an arm around his best friend as if nothing happened between them earlier.

"Shut up. If there are ghosts I'll gladly trade you for them to leave the house" She said

"You can't do that" He faked a hurt as he touched his chest and pouted at Cagalli "I'm your best friend"

"Pout all you want, creep. It's your fault we have to watch a horror movie when we could just enjoy Finn and Jake's adventures"

"Pfft" He blew her off and kissed the side of her head. "Hey, don't worry. I won't let you trade me to the ghost nor will I let them near you. I'll protect you right?"He grinned at her. Cagalli stared at him and smiled

"Let's go eat dinner and don't forget to do dishes later, loser"

"mmhmm ghos-off! What?" Cagalli mumbled and tried to squirm out of her blanket "Ugh..." When she successfully untangled herself from the blanket she stared at her ceiling while the lower half of her body was still hanging from the bed. "I'm... " She surveyed her surroundings and blinked several times "In my room?"

She tried to recall the events yesterday and last thing she remembered was staying under Lenore's tree waiting for Athrun. "How did I end up here?" She mumbled to herself as she tried to get up and throw her blankets to the side before dashing out of her room. .

"Kira!"

Cagalli found her brother scribbling some notes on the dining table while Via was with Lacus making some breakfast in the kitchen.

"Morning, Cagalli" Via called and her daughter greeted her back with a kiss on the cheek. She proceeded to greet Lacus and walked towards her twin who seemed preoccupied.

"How did I end up in my room?"

"Huh?"He looked up and stared at his sister. "Umm, Good Morning?"

"I'm asking you. How did I end up in my room...I was at Athrun's garden yesterday. Did he...?" She paused and tried to recall the events that transpired yesterday but no matter how hard she tried to think about it she couldn't recall anything after

"Don't you remember I brought you home?" He said.

"What?!"

Lacus looked back at her boyfriend and sighed. After Athrun had brought Cagalli back to her house, he called them pleading Kira not to tell Cagalli that he was the one who brought her home when she fell asleep. Why? They didn't know either.

"I saw you sleeping under the tree so I dragged you across the street"

"Geez, thanks a lot" Cagalli frowned and crossed her arms on her chest. She silently walked towards her seat and buried herself deep in her thought. "But...when you brought me home...did you talk to someone?"

"umm you mean Lacus?"

"no, a man's voice...like Athrun or Dad or something?"

Kira didn't look at her in the eye and stared at the pen in his hands. "Um, no. You must be still half asleep sis" He said.

"But-"

"Here you go Cagalli, a happy pancake and bacon breakfast greeting you a good morning." Lacus said cutting her short and placing a plate of hot steaming breakfast infront of her. "Eat up" She said smiling at her then to Kira who was mouthing a thank you for saving him before he could actually spit out the truth.

"So where's Athrun been hanging out lately?" The tanned blonde wandered as he shoved a handful of chips in his mouth."We miss our little blue boy"

Kira shrugged his shoulders and stared at his friends. "He's been busy lately. " He said deadpan.

"Busy what? hanging out with new girls?" Dearka prompted. "It's been a month since he and Meyrin broke up right?"

"He's busy with his scholarship, okay?"Kira gave an exasperated sigh.

"Scholarship?" His friends chorused staring at Kira, confused. "When?! Why? Whaaaat?!" They all screamed at Kira.

Suddenly, Miriallia's eyes widened and hold her hands up as her friends started bombing Kira questions all at the same time. "Hold up a minute!" She screamed and the group fell silent "Scholarship?" The chocolate haired young man nodded his head and looked at them.

"Judging by your face, Kira this isn't a normal Scholarship" Shiho said playing detective again. "Right?"

"You don't mean THAT scholarship right?" Miriallia raised a brow and crossed her arms on her chest.

"it's THAT scholarship" Kira sighed. His shoulders slumped down and looked at them sadly. Lacus patted his back and just nodded her head.

"You mean if he gets accepted he's leaving right?"Yzak, Shiho's soon-to-be husband inquired.

"Wait guys, What do you mean leave?! You lost me at scholarship" Dearka scratched his head while her girlfriend and his bestfriend, Yzak facepalmed at the same time.

"It's the scholarship grant given to students who want to pursue studying abroad you idiot!"

Shiho, Lacus and Dearka opened their mouth forming an "o" and fell silent again afterwards.

They heard Shiho gasp and look at them with horrified eyes "Wait a minute! Does Cagalli know about this?" she whispered.

"No, Athrun asked me not to tell her." Cagalli's twin replied sadly. "And it's not my place to speak about that"

Cagalli slumped on the table and played with her pen. She rolled it back and forth from her and stared at the blank paper beside her. "I can't think of anything right now" She groaned and pressed her cheeks on the table.

"Break up?"

Meyrin nodded her head and looked down at the fallen leaf on her lap. "Yeah. "

"But why? You two looked like you guys aren't having any trouble in your relationship. So why are you breaking up with Athrun? Did he do something to you? Did he make you cry? Cagalli asked "Should I punch him for you?"

The younger girl let out a small chuckle and shook her head. "He didn't do anything bad to me, Captain but he did make me cry"

"What?!...Why?"Cagalli looked at her, puzzled.

"We..."She sighed "aren't for each other." She said softly. "I may like him and he might like me but...I am never going to be someone he can love, Captain"

"Is he cheating on you?"the blonde asked slowly unsure if it was the right question to ask her.

"No. You and I know he isn't the type to cheat, right? and I don't even know if this is cheating actually" Meyrin said. "It's just someone had taken the spot already...and it wasn't me"

"Spot? Huh?" she mimicked Meyrin's words

Meyrin nodded her head and looked at Cagalli. "Yeah."

"What spot? He had someone he liked before Meyrin?" Cagalli frowned and sat up. "The idiot is keeping secrets from me the whole time and who is this mystery girl Meyrin is talking about" She said out loud unintentionally earning rude stares from the other students staying at the library. "Sorry" She apologized and scratched her head sheepishly.

She sighed and gathered her things before stuffing them inside her bag. Her thoughts were all messed up right now and she couldn't write a good essay paper with all the problems running around in her head. "Maybe I should just go talk to Ahmed" She mumbled as she stepped out of the library in a hurry without realizing that she was about to run into someone. "Ah!"

"Sorry"

"Huh?" She looked up to the owner of the voice and frowned. "Athrun."

He gave her a small nod and tried to walk past her but before he could even do so, she grabbed his wrist and dragged her out to the side of the library.

"Can we just talk?!"

"I'm quite busy right now. "He said glancing at the folder in his hands.

"Busy my ass! You've been avoiding me like I have some epidemic disease or something. What is wrong with you?!"She grabbed his shoulders and shook him. "What's wrong?" She asked.

"I'm sorry okay. I'm just...busy" Athrun looked away.

"Athrun.." Cagalli's eyes softened "You haven't talked to me ever since our fight and when you broke up with Meyrin you just kept silent. I'm worried about you." She sighed and dropped her hands on her side. "Meyrin said you liked someone else. Athrun, you can't like someone else when you're dating someone right"

"Cagalli, I don't need another mother to tell me what to do and not to do and could you leave Meyrin out of this."He said. "If you're just here to scold me then I'm leaving."

"What am i suppose to do to make you talk to me."

"You're talking to me right now aren't you"

"Athrun Zala, you know what I mean. Stop being such a smart ass." She put her hands on her waist and glared at her best friend. "Who is she?The girl who has that spot."

He looked away and lowered his head. "If you're done. I'd like to go to the library and do some more important stuffs now. Besides you should be in your class."

"Screw my classes right now. Athrun, stop dodging my questions and tell me?"

"I can't believe you're this slow." he muttered and shook his head.

"What?"

"Don't you see it?!"He raised her voice at her and glared back at her.

"What?! Just tell me already! Get to the point!"Cagalli frowned. "Athrun you know I'm no Sherlock! I can't figure you out anymore!"

He looked at her in disbelief and run a hand through his hair. "You know what? I give up!. Forget it." He said turning away. "If I tell you. You'll probably laugh at it and tell me I'm crazy anyway. Besides prefers someone else anyway. She likes someone else more than me. So forget it. Don't bother asking me who it was I liked. Just go to your class. You're already late" He said as he slowly made his way back to the library.

Cagalli felt her throat run dry with his words. She watch him walk further away from her and spoke up."Y-You're still my best friend...right?"

Athrun stopped and only gave her a small smile before entering the library leaving Cagalli alone outside, confused and hurt.

Lacus knocked on Cagalli's door, when she opened it she found her sitting on her bed and staring at a photo of her and Athrun. They were both covered in spaghetti sauce and grinning ear to ear on Athrun's eight birthday. She opened the door wider and welcomed herself in her friends room.

"Cagalli?"

"I just don't understand him anymore, Lacus." Cagalli mumbled as her friend walked towards her. She felt the bed dip as Lacus sat beside her with a small smile on her face. "He's being difficult and I feel like he's slowly leaving me in the dark. I don't know what's going on in his mind. I feel like our friendship is on the brink of crumbling..."

Lacus nodded her head and continued to listen to Cagalli's rants towards Athrun. When she stopped Lacus held Cagalli's hand and gave her a small smile. "It's hard to choose between the two of them am I right?"

"Huh?"

"Choose Between Ahmed and Athrun?"

"Yes? They are two men who care deeply for you right?"

Her brows furrowed and looked back at the photo in her hand. "But I can't choose between them. I mean.."She pursed her lips and let a tear slip down her cheeks. "Ahmed is...someone I love, Lacus. He's given me so much happiness and has always been a great help to me. He's really a great guy. I don't see why either Athrun or Kira can't get along with him."

Lacus nodded her head."And what about Athrun?"

"Athrun is someone who I can't probably live without. He knows everything about me, what I like and what I hate. We have a lot in common and we made so many memories together when we were young. He's like family to me. Like a brother or another sibling...you know like how you are to me. " She said sadly and spoke again "Ahmed and Athrun are both important to me Lacus. I don't want to choose between them."

Another 2 weeks had passed since Athrun and Cagalli's last talk and honestly, it was already eating Cagalli up. Athrun was almost missing. She seldom sees him at school and at home he refuses to talk to her. She even tried climbing up the tree once and barging in his room only to find out he wasn't at home. Unable to bear what was happening in their straining friendship she threw her sheets off and step out of her house. Angrily, she marched across the street to Athrun's house and attempts to talk to him for the nth time. "I'm gonna punch him the moment I see his face" she growled under her breath.

"Oh, Cagalli?"

"Aunt Lenore where's Athrun?"

"Oh, he went out to pick up some stuffs, Is there anything wrong?"Lenore said as she picked up her watering can.

"No, I just wanted to talk to him"

"He might be back late afternoon. I'll tell him you were looking for him."

"Thanks"

"And Cagalli, you should have a nice talk with him before he leaves for Europe"The blue haired mother smiled at her warmly. "It could make you guys feel better at least. You two haven't reconciled right?" She sighed.

"I'm sorry What?"She blinked several times and stared at Lenore. "Europe? Why?"

"Oh, you didn't know? I thought he told you and everyone else that he got accepted to ZAFT Robotic Engineering Institution a few weeks ago. He's leaving sometime this week." Lenore explained and tapped her chin."What date was it he told me...umm."

Her jaw tightened and pressed a hard smile."I believe he kind of forgottent to mention that to me but thank you for the info Aunt Lenore. I'll be going now" She said and turned a heel.

Cagalli walked and felt tears stinging at the corner of her eyes. He was leaving without planning on fixing their problem? She felt hurt, betrayed and sad at the same time. Her best fried was leaving her without even fixing their fight first and she was the only one who didn't knew about his acceptance. Everyone was keeping her in the dark.

If Kira and the others knew about his plans, why were they all so silent about it and wouldn't tell her about it. Unless, Athrun asked them not to say a word to her. But why? Cagalli knew Athrun had always wanted to go to that Institution but he said he wouldn't because he had to leave for at least a year or two. His sudden change of mind might have something to do with their argument. She sniffed and tears slowly fell down her cheeks. "Idiot, idiot, idiot!" She mumbled. She wiped the tears staining her cheeks and continued to walk without thinking were to go to.

Tears continued to spill as she walked and walked. Before she knew it she was in front of Ahmed's apartment. He was the only person left she could run to at the moment. She still felt betrayed by everyone else and facing them right now wasn't a good idea. She wiped her tears dry but she knew her eyes were already bloodshot from crying and would receive an endless interrogation from Ahmed about it but who cares. She breathed in and out a couple of times and tried to compose herself. Before her knuckles could even touch the wooden door she heard another voice from the other side of the door and surely it wasn't Ahmeds.
