THIS IS MY SECOND FF 7 ATTEMPT SO NO FLAMES. I LIKE THIS ONE BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE BECAUSE I FEEL IT'S MORE IN CHARACTER.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN: RICO'S PLANS CRUMBLE!

I DON'T OWN FF 7 SQUARE ENIX DOES. IF I OWNED IT, YUFFENTINE WOULD BE CANON AND LUCRECIA WOULD BE A BAD MEMORY. I DO HOWEVER OWN RICO, AKIRA, HIRO, TAKITO, ANKARA, AND MARTIN.

RATED M FOR LATER CHAPTERS. POSSIBLE OOC-ness FROM VINCENT AND THE OTHERS!

Rico: based off the asshole Inuyasha portrayed in some Sess/Kag fanfics

Yuffie finished her post-workout shower and dressed in the traditional uniform of a female WRO recon operative: black cargo pants and a black three-quarters sleeved shirt. A kimono style top that matched Yuffie's eyes went on over it to add a flair to her clothes. The bulky combat boots all WRO workers wore completed the look and Yuffie toweled her hair as she centered herself for another day of Rico's antics.

The petite princess wondered at the buzz of conversation in the hall as she headed toward the mess hall where there would be good company and good breakfast. "What's going on?" Yuffie asked one of the passing twins. "Godo-sama is coming to discuss an alliance with the WRO." Hiro replied. "Ah. Ok." Yuffie said. She continued on her way and put the news out of her head. She should have known Rico would choose this golden moment to strike.

"Good morning all." Yuffie chirped as she set her plate down beside Vincent's at the table before planting her butt in the seat next to him. "Your father's coming to visit." Cloud mentioned. "Yeah. Hiro told me. If he's playing politics, it doesn't really bother me one way or the other." Yuffie replied as she dug into her food. Tifa didn't look worried either but that was because Yuffie wasn't worried. The barmaid usually took her cues from Yuffie when it came to her homeland and her people. "I heard Rico was going to ask your father to publicly reprimand you and order you to marry him." Cid said. Yuffie choked on her bacon and Vincent slapped her on the back until she could breathe again. "What?" She croaked. "Yeah. I was taking a fucking smoke break outside and heard a couple of dickheads talkin' about it." Cid replied. Yuffie calmed her breathing and shrugged. "My father does what he pleases. If he wants me to marry Rico, I won't of course because honestly who wants to marry a delusional egomaniac like him?" She said. "Does Rico even speak Wutainese?" Tifa asked. "Not a single word of it. So that's another reason Father won't agree to him marrying me. He wants a man that speaks the language as my husband. I can't always handle all the politics of the title. Not because I'm weak or inferior or anything but because I might be sick or called away or some other emergency and my husband will need to know exactly how to communicate with the council and the people in my stead." Yuffie replied. "That makes sense. After all who wants a ruler that can't communicate with the people? I know I wouldn't." Cloud said. Yuffie nodded. "Even if my husband was an outsider, they would be more accepting if he knew the language. Rico would never survive one night as my husband." She replied.

"Yuffie, Vincent would you sit in on the meeting with Godo-sama? He isn't very good with Common and needs a translator. Vincent will be representing the WRO as a former Turk so you'll be translating." Reeve asked. "Sure. I'll go dig out a kimono." Yuffie replied. "No need. Just wear your uniform." Reeve said. Yuffie nodded and the two followed the other man to his office. "What is Rico-san doing here?" Yuffie demanded quietly. "He's representing the soldiers. I have warned him to behave himself. I can't promise anything but he should at least behave himself during the duration of the meeting." Reeve replied softly. "I understand." Yuffie said stiffly.

"You have indeed brought your best representatives here today Reeve-san." Godo Kisaragi chuckled. Reeve smiled brightly. "Indeed Godo-sama. Yuffie-hime has proven to be an invaluable asset in maintaining the peace we have all sacrificed so much to achieve." He replied. Yuffie allowed a little of her maturity to shine through when she didn't preen in front of the room like an arrogant peacock. Godo smiled slightly to himself, pride flaring in his heart for his proud warrior daughter. "Yuffie-hime introduce me to your partner would you?" He asked. Yuffie nodded, bowing slightly. "Father this is the man I have chosen. Vincent Valentine. He speaks Wutainese fluently. He often speaks to me in our native tongue when I feel especially...homesick." She replied. Vincent bowed respectfully. "Your daughter is a credit to your family line Godo-sama. She has grown much and her youth is now tempered by maturity." He said. Godo smirked. "He's a good choice Daughter. Now what is this arrogant young peacock preening about saying you and he are to be married?" He asked. Yuffie snorted rudely. "Forgive me Father. I just knew this would happen. Rico-san and I had one date when I first arrived here to begin my duties on the Recon Squad. It was the worst date of my life. He lost the shoes you passed on to me from Mother and nearly raped me. I was appalled and rebuffed him at every turn. Yet he is still of the opinion that I want to have a relationship with him. Despite the fact that I am clearly spoken for." She replied politely. Godo frowned. "This is not the story I was given young man." He said reproachfully. Rico paled slightly and Yuffie hid a smirk of triumph. There would be no public humiliation for her. Not today. But Rico would finally know his place.

"And what was that story honored father?" Yuffie asked, the epitome of respectful daughter. "He informed me that you begged for his attention, slept with him, threw yourself at him constantly, and asked him to protect you from the inferior jerks from the WRO." Godo replied. Yuffie's horrified face told Godo that Rico lied to him. "Father if you would allow me to speak freely and a little rudely, I will be more than happy to inform you of the true events to his so called story." She said. "Of course." Godo replied. Yuffie sighed. "I agreed to a date with Rico-san because I was trying to make Vincent jealous. It was a childish ploy on my part. Rico-san disrespected me, treated me like a side-show attraction, lost Mother's shoes, ruined the outfit that went with the shoes, and effectively treated me like a common whore one would pay to spend the evening with. On our subsequent mission, Rico-san broke into my private room and helped himself to my bed. I kindly helped him to the nearest utility closet and have locked my doors ever since. He has even physically assaulted me. I have yet to report that because I would like to think myself a reasonable woman. However I will do so if Rico-san continues to harass me. I don't like being treated as a prize to win in a contest. He can't seem to comprehend how to handle a woman so I decided to take the matter out of his hands. He has also verbally assaulted Vincent who would have gladly blown his brains out in the shooting range had I not calmed him down and holstered Cerberus." She explained. "He has assaulted you and you haven't reported him?!" Godo demanded. Yuffie studiously ignored the suddenly murderous gleam in her dangerously possessive, gunslinging demon-possessed lover's eyes and nodded, head bowed as if ashamed of herself. "I confess I was not prepared and I was rather remiss in my manners seeing as how I retaliated in kind by removing him from my presence physically." She replied meekly.

"She is lying to you Godo-sama!" Rico protested. "He even used your honored name to try and force me into compliance. Why would I lie to you?" Yuffie replied. "Is that true boy?" Godo demanded. Rico shook his head. "Not at all. Women are notorious liars and this particular woman would do or say anything to save face and continue in her illicit affair with that geezer." He replied hotly. Yuffie bit back laughter. "Father Vincent is clearly only a few years older than me. More than Cloud certainly but way less than the men you have asked me to consider marrying on occasion." She said politely. Godo nodded his head. "I understand. Rico-san you struck me as a controlled individual but now I have reason to believe I was mistaken in my assumption. A man that would dare to lay his hands on my daughter in a physically harmful way is not someone I would want marrying her. Yuffie will be taking the reins of our country as soon as I see fit to retire and she has chosen someone that I won't worry about to guide and protect her. A controlled individual that knows how to lighten up and have fun when the situation calls for it. Someone suited to my Yuffie. I believed that could have been you but now I am shown that I was mistaken." Godo said. Rico watched as his carefully laid plans crumbled before his eyes. Yuffie grinned wickedly inwardly. 'Game and set.' She thought. "Are you agreeable to breaking for lunch Godo-sama?" Reeve asked. "That would be nice. I believe we can get back to the task at hand when we return." Godo agreed.

"You enjoyed that a little too much." Reeve said. Yuffie shrugged. "What can I say? My dad's a powerful force to reckon with. Where do you think I got my leadership skills from?" She replied. Reeve laughed and followed Yuffie down the walk to a small boutique where they served a delicious bowl of stew and a buttery bread that Yuffie was going to have to learn to make. The two friends enjoyed a short lunch together and Yuffie got a gallon of stew and a loaf of the bread to go.
