Behind Closed Doors

"I come bearing gifts." Lennox says as she pokes her head through the door. Alaric sits up, a smile tugging up the corners of his lips when he sees the bottle in her hands. She steps into the dungeon slowly, shutting the door behind her using her foot. "Damon and Elena just left and I thought I'd help you fall asleep."

"What the hell." Alaric shrugs as Lennox grabs a chair. She hands him the bottle before she sits down. "And, for the record, I don't approve this."

Lennox laughs when he gestures to her then the bottle. "I think I get a free pass since I'm immortal."

Alaric fills the two glasses Lennox had brought in with her and hands her one. They drink together. "So, your sister and Damon alone on a road trip. You think that's a good idea?"

Lennox leans back in her chair, resting her glass on he thigh. "No. But I am in no place to stop them."

"Elena told me about Tatia… you." Alaric admits after a few seconds. Lennox bites down on her lower lip.

"I kind of expected she would." Lennox pauses. "You must think I'm weird for wanting to stay in Mystic Falls after everything that happened the last time I lived here."

"No. You have a family that needs you and friends that missed you." Alaric shakes his head. "And I can't call anyone weird when I have some maniacal alter ego taking over my body."

"Everybody has their faults." Lennox smiles. "Some are just way bigger than others."

"What's yours? If you don't mind me asking."

Lennox laughs nervously as her eyes drop to the floor. She leans forward, placing her elbows on her knees as she places her empty cup on the floor. "I try to hide it the best I can but um… I care… way too much."

"That's not bad." Alaric reassures her. Lennox shakes her head slowly. She runs her fingers through her curled hair, moving most of it over her shoulder.

"It is when everyone you care about dies." Lennox takes a deep breath. "I'm a vampire. Elena and Jeremy aren't. Eventually they will die like everyone else has and I'll have to deal with it. Just like I had to deal with my parents deaths… and Jenna's… even John's."

"You knew about John?" Alaric's pinches his eyebrows together.

"While I 'dead' I was also getting weekly reports of the happenings here in good old Mystic Falls." Lennox meets Alaric's eyes. "I also know that since you were Isobel's husband, that technically makes you my stepfather."

"I didn't want to tell you in case you didn't want to know."

Lennox purses her lips, letting the silence grow for a couple seconds. "I've been meaning to thank you, for taking in Jeremy and Elena after Jenna died."

"There's no need to thank me. I was happy to do it." Alaric leans forward in his cot. "Just like I'd be happy to become your guardian as well, if you ever feel up to moving back in… and if I stop whatever is happening to me."

"I don't think I'll ever be ready to go back home for good. Too many demons, not enough skills to fight them off." Lennox forces a smile.

"Well, take it from someone who knows, facing your demons isn't as hard as it looks."

"I have a lot of them, Alaric." Lennox tells him as her eyes start to sting with forming tears. "I mean, my mom and dad, the people who were supposed to love me no matter what, plotted to kill me in that house. I attacked Elena in that house. I watched my family push the obvious signs that my dad tried to kill me under the rug. I watched my siblings mourn my fake death and move on before winter break."

"It's going to be hard, Lennox, but if you never try to get over everything that you went through in that house, you'll never be able to mend the parts of you that it broke."

Lennox runs her fingers over her eyes, attempting to wipe away any tears that might make their way onto her face. "Wow. I'm spilling my guts to you and I'm not even drunk yet."

Alaric laughs lightly. "It's okay to open up to people. You don't have to try to be a typical vampire."

"That's where you're wrong, Ric." Lennox pulls her hair in front of her shoulder. "I have to be a normal vampire or I wont make it through this century."

"You don't know that."

"Yeah I do. Mikael told me, he showed me what happens when someone who lives forever cares and loves people who don't. It ends up tearing them apart from the inside out because they can't get over it. And I can't be that person."

"Well, you've made it through your parent's, Jenna's, and John's deaths just fine." Alaric gestures.

Lennox shakes her head. "No, I didn't."

"I just… Elena never mentioned you coming back after…" Alaric sits up.

"That's cause she never saw me." Lennox slumps down in her chair.

The rain hits the street sporadically, creating a symphony of quiet thuds. The trees and grass dance around with the wind as it picks up suddenly. The crowd surrounding the burial site starts to clear after the pastor finishes his speech. Most of the people attending the funeral make sure to stop by the two children huddled together to pay their respects before leaving. The two teenagers leave half an hour later with their aunt.

Lennox stays hidden behind the tree until she hears Jenna's car pull out of the cemetery. Once she is sure that no one has stuck around, she moves out into opening. She keeps her head tilted towards the floor as she walks towards the gravestones marking the spot where her parents' bodies will lie forever.

Lennox barely makes it. She falls to her knees a few feet from where her parents were just buried. The tears that had been coming and going during the last couple hours are back. The tears trace the curve of her cheeks, making their way to her chin before she wipes them away. Lennox places the flowers that she had been gripping too tightly during the funeral onto the graves.

She cries for an hour in the rain and wind before getting up the physical and mental strength to stand up and walk away. She knows she won't be coming back for a while, maybe ever.

"I wanted to talk to them, Jeremy and Elena, but I couldn't get up the nerve." Lennox pauses. "I knew that if I did, I would have to tell them about the supernatural world around them. And I didn't want to pull them into it before they were ready."

"Have you visited Jenna's grave?" Alaric asks the question that has been lingering on his tongue.

Lennox shakes her head. "I don't want to break down again."

"If you stop caring about the people you love, you'll loose your humanity." Alaric waits for Lennox to look him in the eyes.

"Love is a vampire's greatest weakness. That has been drilled into my head since I left town with Mikael." Lennox clenches her teeth.

"He lived by that saying and look at where he is now. He was living on his own for a millennium and ended up getting killed by his own son." Alaric purses his lips. "Do you want to end up like that?"

"Of course not!" Lennox stands up and starts to pace in front of Alaric. Her mind is racing too fast for her to find the right words. "But I can't… I can't…"

"Care?" Alaric's eyes follow Lennox. She stops to look at him and he knows he's right. "Why?"

"Look around, Alaric. Caring isn't something that would be recommended for someone like me. I'm sixteen, a vampire, and have already lost almost all of my family."

"But you still have Elena and Jeremy." Alaric stands up. He steps in front of her, squaring his shoulders. "And they need you. They need you to care about them and show that you still love them."

"They know I love them." Lennox says.

"I bet they do but what are they suppose to think when you refuse to go back home."

"What am I supposed to do? Just go back and try to forget everything that has happened to me?"

"No. You go home and let your siblings convince you that they will never abandon or hurt you again." Alaric places a light reassuring hand on her shoulder. "And I will help make sure of it."

Lennox drops her eyes to his hand before meeting his eyes. "Okay."

A loud creak causes them to both look at the door. Stefan steps into the room quietly, his eyes lingering on Alaric's hand for a second.

"We've got a visitor." Stefan mutters as the door opens again. Lennox tenses up when she sees that the visitor is Klaus.

"What are you doing here?" Lennox folds her arms over her chest. She ignores the normal turning in her stomach she gets when she sees Klaus. Lennox decides to blame it on her past life.

"I came to get back the rest of the stakes, love." Klaus smirks at her as she squirms to get out of the crowded dungeon.

Lennox throws a sarcastic smile at the Original. She glances over her shoulder at Alaric who gives her small nod. She turns back to Stefan and Klaus. "Have fun with that."

Lennox walks out of the dungeon before Stefan's outreached hand can get a hold of her arm. She speeds up the stairs to the living room. She doesn't break her step as she walks to the liquor table. She pours herself a glass of whiskey and sits on the couch.

By the time Stefan joins her, her cup is empty and balancing on the armrest of the couch. Klaus pauses in the foyer.

"As much as I'd love to stay and chat, I have to go check in on my naive sister." Klaus holds his hands behind his back as his eyes land on Stefan. "Make sure to call me when he wakes."

"Bye, love." Niklaus peers over Stefan's shoulder to smile at Lennox. She rolls her eyes and waits for the door to shut behind him to stand from the couch.

"Who has to wake up?" Lennox questions Stefan. He glances towards the basement.

"Klaus killed Alaric."

"What?" Lennox's eyes grow wide as the fear sets in.

"He was wearing his ring. I don't know if it will work, though."

"Klaus did it?" Lennox pauses to let Stefan nod. "Well, if it doesn't we'll have to resort to other methods to get the stake."

"And what exactly do you have in mind?" Stefan narrows his eyes.

"We have to draw out his other side. Most likely, pain will do that." Lennox purses her lips as Stefan throws her a look. "Don't give me that look. It's not like I'm going to enjoy hurting Alaric. He's a good guy. We just really need that stake."

Stefan drops his head, his eyes lingering on the floor for a few seconds. "I overheard what you two were talking about."

"Was Klaus with you?" Lennox tries to hide her reaction.

"No." Stefan straightens his back and shoves his hands into his pockets "Alaric was right though. If you stop wanting to care, you'll end up with no emotions."

"This coming from a guy who is an emotional ripper." Lennox folds her arms over her chest as Stefan's face falls. She realizes that her words came out harsher than she had meant. "I'm sorry, Stefan. It's just… I'm not like you. At least I don't think I am."

"Lennox, I don't think that you're going to end up a ripper if you flip the switch. But you will do things you regret if that happens." Stefan steps towards her. Lennox takes a step back.

"Thank you for worrying about me but I don't need it right now." Lennox starts to walk past him. Stefan reaches out and stops her.

"Are you going home?"

"No. I'm going upstairs." Lennox pinches her eyebrows together.

"I mean later." Stefan lets go of her arm. "Are you moving back home with Elena and Jeremy?"

"I don't know. Maybe." Lennox shrugs. "I'll tell you when I figure it out."

Stefan nods, accepting her answer. She continues out of the room but stops to glance over her shoulder.

"Let me know when Alaric wakes up."

The names move across the screen quickly, only stopping when Lennox places her finger back on the phone. She pauses her scan momentarily when she sees Elena's name. She hovers her finger over her sister's contact for a second before going back up to Damon's. She just wants to talk to someone without feeling like she's being judged. Lennox taps Damon's name quickly, starting the call.

Damon's voice comes over the line clearly after it rings a few times. "Miss me already?"

Lennox smiles to herself. "Ha. In your dreams, Damon."

"I was getting a little sleepy..." Damon fakes a yawn.

"Did you guys find Jeremy yet?" Lennox asks quickly.

"Yes. Now, we're just waiting in the motel for Rose to get Mary's address." Damon explains.

"Rose? I thought she was…"

"She is. Jeremy's ability to talk to ghosts is finally being handy." Lennox can tell that Damon is smiling as he talks.

"And why are you guys in a motel?" Lennox pulls both her legs up onto the bed, crossing them over each other.

"Turns out, Kol Mikaelson and Jeremy have become quite good friends since he's been here in Denver." Damon pauses. "We're trying to stay out of his way for a bit."

Lennox starts to speak but stops herself knowing the conversation would end sooner if she did. "That sounds like a good idea."

The silence continues for a few elongated seconds. "Why did you really call me?"

"I just wanted to hear how everything is going." The lie comes easily to Lennox.

"You can admit that you miss me. I wont hold it against you." Damon tells her but Lennox knows it isn't true.

"I don't miss you. I miss my siblings."

"Then why didn't you call them?"

Lennox racks her brain quickly. "I thought they might be busy."

"I'm calling your bluff." Damon sighs. Lennox purses her lips, the corners moving upward slightly.

"I'm not bluffing." Lennox squeaks. She clears her voice to gain volume before repeating herself. "I'm not bluffing."

"Fine. Then I'm going to go." Damon smiles. "I'll see you soon."

Lennox bites her tongue for a second, debating on just letting him hang up. "Damon, wait."

"Yes?" Damon asks. Lennox bites her lip as she tries to find the right words.

"I called you because…" Lennox takes a deep breath. "I do miss you."

"That's all you had to say, sweetheart." Damon's amusement is evident in his voice. "So, what's going on with Alaric?"

"He's dead." Lennox states. She clarifies before Damon starts asking questions. "He was wearing his ring and Klaus came and killed him but we're hoping it will draw out his dark side."

"And if it doesn't work?"

"Then, unfortunately, I might get to use a couple tricks Mikael taught me." Lennox rubs the back of her neck. She doesn't want to torture Alaric, especially after the talk they had. But she doesn't want to die because they couldn't find that stake.

"Kinky." Damon jokes and it earns an eye roll from Lennox.

"How are Elena and Jeremy doing?" Lennox asks the question that's been in the back of her head.

"Fine, seeing as how we have an Original after us and a dead vampire assisting us find another one that might give us the name of the Original that made our bloodline." Damon shrugs nonchalantly.

"Good thing we're all from the same line." Lennox points out.

"Even if someone other than Klaus turned us, we know who turned one of us."

"What are you talking…?" Lennox's breath catches in her throat. "Tyler."

"Yeah." Damon swallows. "Elena told me you guys were pretty… involved before everything. So, I thought you would want to know."

Lennox runs her tongue over her lips. "He's my friend. That's all."

"I can tell." Damon pauses. "When was the last time you've had some blood?"

"This morning. Why?"

Damon leans against the sink. "You sound… off. Tired."

"You sure know how to make a girl feel special." Lennox forces a short laugh.

"What's wrong, Lennox?" Damon asks. "You can tell me."

"There's a lot on my mind, like usual." Lennox runs her fingers through her hair.

"Want to talk about it?" Damon asks as Lennox's bedroom door opens. Stefan steps inside slowly, his eyes landing on Lennox.

"Maybe later." Lennox gives a small smile to Stefan. "I actually have to go."

Damon's smile fades from his lips. "The sheriff checking in on you?"

"Something like that." Lennox mutters knowing that Stefan can hear Damon. "I'll talk to you later."

"Okay. Night, Lennox." Damon forces the goodbye.

"Night, Damon." Lennox responds before ending the call. She tosses the phone onto the bed next to her as she looks up at Stefan.

"Is Alaric awake?"

"Yep." Stefan nods. "Who was that?"

Lennox glances at her phone. "It was Damon. He was just giving me an update."

"Cool." Stefan's expression doesn't match his words. "Elena told me she would call if they found anything out about the bloodlines."

"Why did you let them go on the trip together?" Lennox stands from the bed. "I mean, you must have known that Damon might try something with Elena."

"I think it will help her figure out who she wants to be with." Stefan explains. "And while she's gone, I can figure out who I want to be with"

Lennox nods. "And how's that going?"

"I don't know." Stefan takes a step. "You're not really giving me any clues as to what you want."

"I already told you that I want to be with you." Lennox reminds him. "And pushing myself on you isn't going to make the decision any easier."

"It might." Stefan shrugs. Lennox laughs quietly.

"I'm pretty sure it won't." Lennox closes the gap between them with three quick steps. She slings her arms around his neck and draws his lips to hers. They kiss for only a few seconds before Lennox pulls back. "Did that help you at all?"

Stefan seems to search for an answer. "No."

"See? I told you." Lennox breaks all contact with him. She moves past him towards the door. "Now, can we go check on sleeping beauty?"

"It didn't work." Alaric sighs as rolls his neck, stretching his stiff muscles. Lennox looks at Stefan who shakes his head slowly.

"We could always kill you again." Lennox turns back to Alaric. "As everyone says, second times the charm."

"Evil me, or whatever you want to call him, isn't going to come out if he knows he's not in any real danger." Alaric stands from the cot and slips off his ring.

"Alaric…" Lennox starts towards him but he stops her.

"We don't have a choice right now. We need that stake and evil me knows where it is." Alaric takes a deep breath. "You need to lure him out and the only way to do that is to try an kill me."

"You don't understand." Lennox purses her lips. "Blood does something to me. If I start and I lose control I don't know what I will do."

"If you don't do anything then my evil self will get that stake and kill an Original. And if that Original happens to be the one who created your bloodline, Elena will not only lose one person she cares about but five." Alaric steps towards the younger Gilbert twin. "Do you want that to happen?"

"Of course not. But…" Lennox starts.

"Would you rather Stefan do it?" Alaric gestures over her shoulder causing Lennox to glance at Stefan. "He's a ripper and would kill me in a heartbeat. But maybe it would be better that way."

"I can't do it." Stefan shakes his head as he steps back. "I'm barely hanging on as it is."

Lennox turns back to Alaric and sighs. "I'll do it but you have to leave Stefan."

"Why?" Stefan steps towards her.

"Because this evil Alaric has to know that once I start, no one will be able to protect him other than himself." Lennox looks over her shoulder.

Stefan starts to object but stops, his breath catching in his throat. "Fine."

Lennox waits until she hears the dungeon door close to take off the jacket she had been wearing and pull up her hair into a ponytail that sits on top of her head.

"Are you sure about this?" Lennox asks as she fixes her hair.

"Yes. It's the only choice we have." Alaric nods subtly. He takes a deep breath, preparing himself for the first punch.

It comes with a lot of pain.

Blood splatters on the floor as Alaric spits. Lennox looks down at her knuckles, which have now split open, her own blood seeping onto her hand. Her cuts heal before she wipes the blood off.

"You can't back down now." Alaric mutters before gathering the blood in his mouth and coughing it out. "We're finally getting somewhere."

"If I keep going, I'll split your skull in half." Lennox waits for Alaric to catch his bearings.

"That's what we want." Alaric wipes off the excess blood under his swollen nose with the back of his hand.

"And if you keep bleeding like this, I might just suck you dry." Lennox tries to take shorter breaths so the delicious smell doesn't overtake her.

"Use that. Just let go of control." Alaric gestures for her to continue.

"You'll die."

"That's the point."

Lennox takes a deep breath, letting the bloody aroma fill her nose. Without much thought, her canine teeth extend and her vampire veins dance under her eyes. She stops a growl from growing in her throat but speeds towards Alaric, her fist making contact with his nose this time. He stumbles back but stays on his feet. Alaric motions her towards him again.

"Come on. That isn't going to draw him out."

Lennox lets out a frustrated sigh. She knows she could do better and get the job done easily, but she's scared to let that part of herself out. Mikael had made her feel comfortable hurting people. Lennox doesn't want to go back to that again.

"Fine." Lennox clenches her teeth. "But this is going to hurt, a lot."

She speeds towards him and doesn't slow down until after her fist had made contact with his face. Lennox grabs him by the neck, not hesitating to throw him against the wall. The sound of bones cracking echoes through the room as Alaric hits the brick. He falls to the ground and for a second, Lennox fears he might be dead.

Alaric chuckles noisily as he starts to push himself off the floor. "Is that the best you got? That's pathetic."

Lennox's mouth falls open slightly. "You."

"Me." Alaric's smile doesn't fit his face. Its not warm and welcoming like usual. Instead it's cold and mocking.

"Where's the stake?" Lennox steps towards the man she doesn't know anymore.

"This is so pitiable." Alaric shakes his head. "And I thought you would be the one to fear."

"I am." Lennox lunges towards him and punches him. She pulls back her foot and lands a hard kick in his gut. He crumbles to the floor, cradling his stomach. "Where's the stakes?"

When Alaric doesn't answer, Lennox reaches down and grabs him by the neck, lifting him off the floor easily. She holds him against the wall, her hand cutting into his windpipe. She keeps squeezing until she hears his heart starting to slow.

"If I squeeze any harder, you'll stop breathing." Lennox forces a smile. "Where is the stake?"

"The cave. It's in the cave, where no vampire can get it." Alaric answers reluctantly. Lennox drops him to the floor and leaves the dungeon without looking back. She tells herself that the man in there isn't really Alaric so she doesn't feel bad about what she did. But it's too late.

Damon pulls out his phone after convincing himself he's just checking the time. When he sees there are no missed calls from a certain younger vampire, he sighs. He knows that if there were anybody who would understand his situation, it would be Lennox Gilbert; the girl convinced she'd always come second best to her sister.

He puts his phone back into his pocket and continues to his car. Elena walks out of the house a minute later, the guilt obvious in her eyes. She puts a hand on his previously dislocated shoulder and starts to apologize.

"It's fine." Damon shakes his head. He pulls away from her touch for the first time in a while.

Elena seems to contemplate the idea of keeping up her attempt to apologize. But decides not to. "Are you ready to go?"

"For once I'm actually happy to go back to Mystic Falls." Damon mutters as he drops into the front seat. He tells himself he's just eager to go home and sleep. But he knows there is another reason he wants to go back.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Lennox folds her arms over her chest when Niklaus steps into the living room.

"I've been hanging around to make sure you two weren't going to try to keep me out of the loop." Niklaus moves towards the younger Gilbert twin. She takes a couple steps back, putting the appropriate distance between them.

Lennox is sure that any feelings that the Original stirs inside of her aren't real. "You think I want to escort that vampire hating loon to the cave? It's all you."

"Oh, no. That will be on me." Rebekah smiles at Lennox as she joins her brother. Lennox forces herself to return her smile.

Lennox gestures towards the basement. "Be my guest."

Rebekah walks out of the room after getting a nod of approval from her brother.

"Now, you have nothing to worry about, love." Niklaus turns back to Lennox. "Once we find that stake, we'll burn it then none of you will have anything that can kill me."

"Maybe we wont need the stake." Lennox's smile grows on her lips. Niklaus scoffs and shakes his head. "Don't be so arrogant. Everybody has a weakness."

"Not me, love." Niklaus smirks when he hears his sister enter the living room.

"He's taking me to the cave." Rebekah mutters before leaving again, this time out the front door.

Stefan walks into the room, his eyes glued to his phone. "Elena and Damon are on their way home."

Stefan pauses when he sees Niklaus' smiling face. "Don't worry. I already know about their trip to Denver and that they failed miserably. But that's not really surprising."

"So, what are you going to do? Kill me?" Stefan puts his phone away as Lennox steps around Niklaus.

"He's not going to touch you." Lennox throws a look at Niklaus.

"I haven't actually decided yet." Niklaus pretends to ponder the idea as he walks over to the couch.

"Sure, you have. You have had every excuse and reason to kill but you haven't. I think you just don't want to." Stefan walks around Lennox so he's standing in front of Niklaus.

"You're right. You see I'm still waiting for the real you to come back. And I can tell that part of you is waiting just under the surface to come out and play."

"That part of myself doesn't control me anymore. And neither do you." Stefan's lips tug up into a small smile. "So, if you're not going to stake me, get the hell out of my house."

Lennox watches, surprised and impressed, as Stefan leaves the room. She turns to Niklaus, a wide smile on her lips.

"Well then, how about that?" Lennox stops herself from laughing when she sees Niklaus' semi-stunned face. "I would offer you a drink but…" She gestures over her shoulder. "Stefan's a real sucker for following orders. As you should know."

Niklaus takes a deep breath before standing from the couch. He starts towards the door but stops when his shoulder touches Lennox's.

"You're feistier than I remember." Niklaus' fingers trace her arm. "Sexier."

Lennox swallows. "And you're a bigger douche than I remember. I guess people do change."

"Maybe we could continue this conversation at my house."

Lennox's jaw drops open but she closes it immediately. "What happened to focusing on Caroline? You know, you're true love."

"People can change their minds just like they change their personalities." Niklaus whispers into her ear.

"You know, you can be a real narcissistic…" Lennox turns her head to look at Niklaus but he's gone. The sound of the front door closing causes her to glance over her shoulder. "…Pig."

"Knock, knock." Damon raps his knuckles against the doorframe three times. Lennox tears her eyes from her phone.

"Hey." Lennox tosses her phone onto her pillow as she drops her legs over the side of the bed. "I didn't hear you get home."

"I was trying to be courteous since I didn't know if you'd still be awake." Damon folds his arms over his chest as he leans against the door.

"I'm not really tired." Lennox shrugs. Damon nods his head subtly. He sits next to her on the bed, subconsciously crossing into her personal space.

"Me either." Damon sighs.

"Well, how'd it go?" Lennox looks at Damon. He purses his lips as he tries to think of a way to answer.

"We couldn't find Mary in time so we did nothing to help the cause."

"I wasn't talking about the bloodlines. I was talking about Elena." A small smile appears on her lips.

Damon takes a deep breath and leans back on the bed. "We kissed and it was all going pretty great, until I ruined it."

Lennox's eyebrows pinch together. "How did you ruin a kiss?"

"I didn't ruin the kiss, I kind of sabotaged the whole thing." Damon pauses. "Just like I always sabotage everything."

Lennox drops her eyes to the floor. "Who can blame you? I mean, look at the life you've had. You've had to go through hell and back, quite a few times. And yet, you made it this far."

"Not without making mistakes. And a lot of them."

"Well, isn't that how people learn the right way to do things?"

Damon glances at Lennox. "But I haven't. I'm still making mistakes and screwing things up."

"I think that it's just your way of dealing with things. And while it may not be the best way, at least you do deal with it and not run away from your problems..." Lennox bites her lip. "…like some people in this town. You face your demons while others are too scared. I think that's something to be admired for, not chastised."

"Thank you." Damon brings his eyes to meet Lennox's. She smiles.

"You're welcome." Lennox's eyes drop to Damon's hand on the bed for a second. She places hers on top of his. "Over the past couple weeks, we've become good friends. And I'm glad because I need someone like you, someone I can trust. All I'm saying is that… I hope we can stay like this, without something getting in the way."

Damon's eyes flicker down to her lips before he forces a smile. "Me too."

**Only two more chapters until the season three finale. Now, I want to know a couple things before the finale. First, I want to hear what everyone would want to happen in the finale. Second, I want to know which couples everyone to be the endgame for the finale and beginning of season 4, Lennox/Stefan, Lennox/Niklaus, or even Lennox/Damon. So, please review with your opinions because I want to write an amazing finale chapter! Thank you for reading!
