Life of a saiyan on earth
This chapter won't really have a lot of action in it. It's mainly going to serve as a build up for things to come. We had a lot of things happen in the last chapter and things are only going to get more complex as the story goes on. Without further ado here's chapter 14.
Chapter 14: Trouble Rising Saga Part I
Hundreds of feet away two figures stood in the shadow of a towering formation of desert rock. Their faces were unknown, their shapes being the only thing visible. The figure on the right seemed to be bald, his muscular body stood stiff as he watched the saiyan leader fly away with his dead friend.
"Should we move in now, while they're weak?" The second figure asked, his body was also that of a martial artist. His hair hung down his back giving him a wild look.
"Weak?" The harsh voice of his companion asked, "Fool, have I not taught you anything? Just because one of their own died does not mean they are weak."
"They just fought an entire army for crying out loud." The man said with slight irritation.
Red eyes gleamed as the first figure turned his glaring eyes on his protégé, "I am your master and you will treat me as such, if you step out of line again I will not hesitate to kill you."
"Understood master, but if we aren't going to attack them now then why did we come here?"
"It's good to know your enemy. I haven't made any contact with the saiyans for years for a good reason."
"I just can't wait to put Kakarot in his place." The bitterness in his voice left his mouth like a bullet leaving the barrel of a gun.
"Come, we have training to do." With that the two figures flew away into the distance.
-LOAS-
Central City, Deva HQ
Bardock landed in front of his self-built empire. The guards were instantly standing at attention at the sight of their commander, but the body in his arms shocked them.
"S-sir, is that general Taro?" One of them asked.
Bardock walked passed them as their questions fell on deaf ears. He somberly walked through the building catching the eyes of all those near him. He finally made it to the medical bay where Kakarot and Lapis stood over an injured Lazuli.
Hearing the sequential thump of his father's steps Kakarot turned to see him with Taro in his arms. An unexpected feeling gripped at his heart. The earth warrior briefly lost control of his power letting it flare garnering the attention of every energy sensing being within miles.
In an instant the rest of his squad was in the room. Bardock as if the rest of the world didn't exist walked to one of the beds and placed Taro's body. Everybody stood in shock in silence. Although no one spoke, the emotions displayed on their faces spoke for them.
"Lock the building down and meet me in the command room." Bardock said before walking out of the room.
As soon as the door shut Raditz released his anger throwing the nearest object, which happened to be a steel table. The table crashed into the wall falling to the ground breaking the silence.
"Those bastards aren't getting away with this." He growled before leaving.
"Krillin, go to the security room and let them know we are on lockdown, no one in, no one out. The rest of you lets go." Kakarot commanded.
As Krillin nodded and left to do what he was told. Everyone with the exception of Kakarot made their way to the command room. The kind saiyan stood above his sleeping wife. Multiple bruises lined her face. He reached down and ran his hands through her hair.
"It looks like things are about to get worse. I promise I won't ever let you get hurt again. I'll die before I let anything happen to you or Gohan."
Kakarot placed a gentle kiss on his wife's forehead before he left the room. Unbeknownst to the saiyan a phantom smile appeared on Lazuli's face.
Kakarot arrived to find everybody waiting for him. The mood was a solemn one, he looked towards Bardock and in front of him wasn't his father but Bardock, the hardened saiyan commander who led his team on a multitude of successful planet conquering missions. He felt an odd mixture of fear and awe, he hadn't really seen his father like this since the days of the rebellion.
"Now that everyone is here we can get down to business." Bardock said looking out at his strongest fighters.
"For years we've been preparing ourselves in defense of this planet and…and today a coward sent his goons to fight his fight thinking we would not be ready. He was wrong—we may have lost a soldier but in Taro's death we found a reason…a reason to fight again." The conviction in which Bardock spoke seemed to raise the spirits of those in the room.
"It's time to take the fight to them again, Kakarot, Raditz and Kalaseos we depart for Vegeta III at dusk. Lapis you are in charge while I am gone, some our enemies still lurk in the shadows here on earth." Bardock commanded before leaving the room.
"It seems the fun is about to begin, just like the old days little brother." Raditz said slapping Kakarot on the back.
"They'll pay for what they did to Taro and Lazuli." Kakarot was usually a cheerful person but when the lives of those that he loved are in danger he became an unforgiving warrior.
It wasn't long before the sun descended from the sky down passed the horizon. Dusk had come and now it was time for their new journey to begin. The entirety of Kakarot's family and friends stood in front of the warship, affectionately named "Last Sight". Bardock chose the name because the use of it meant only one thing for those who saw it, either for them or for their enemies.
Gine stood with tears streaming down her face. Her husband and sons were once again going off to fight another war. She had enjoyed their years of piece but now the unescapable grip of death had come for them again. Lazuli stood next to her with the help of her brother as he was still a bit weak from her injuries.
"Woman, I've told you about crying. I don't care how different you are, saiyans don't cry." Bardock said but he consoled her nonetheless.
"Do you have to go?" She asked.
Bardock sighed, "It's my fault Taro died, I grew complacent with our lives here on earth. I should have known Frieza wouldn't forget about us and not to mention the foolish King of saiyans."
Gine didn't want them to go off and fight but she knew it was impossible to change their minds. One of their own had died and they were saiyans, fighting was entwined in their DNA.
"Just make sure you bring my boys back." She said giving him a kiss.
"Do you guys have to do that here?" Raditz asked shielding his eyes from his parent's display of affection.
"Don't be such a baby." Kolasi said cupping Raditz' face enveloping him in a kiss.
"Ewwww." Pyra said covering her eyes.
The young Solarian-Saiyan hybrid was now four years old. Her slightly orange tinted skin made her green eyes pop. Raditz smiled as he picked his daughter up.
Kakarot stood in front of Lazuli with Gohan in his arms. He looked into his sons dark blue eyes and then into his wife's light blue ones and smiled. He had a family, they were his reason to fight, his reason to live. That's why he would come back alive, the love for his family would trump whatever Frieza threw at him.
"I love you, Lazuli." He blurted out.
She smiled, "Don't get soft on me now."
Like the previous couples before the two began kissing. Lapis turned his eyes away from the scene but not before taking his nephew into his arms.
"Give me my nephew before you drop him."
Back behind the saiyans and their spouses stood their friends. Krillin, Leek and Tien stood next to each other in their Deva armor.
"Everybody has a girlfriend but us." Krillin said a bit deflated.
"Speak for yourself, I have Launch." Tien said smiling only managing to make his bald friend gloomier.
"What about you, Leek?" Krillin asked hoping not to be alone.
"I have my share of women, but a girlfriend, no." He answered with a smirk.
"You guys suck." The monk said with a dark cloud over his head.
Bulma walked up to the saiyans and their families. She smiled at the sight, her best friend had grown up. He was no longer the wild boy she had known. He was now a man with a family, going off to fight another war.
"Do you remember what I told about the ship?" She asked eyeing Bardock.
"Of course, I know how to fly my ship." He told her.
She nodded before going to hug Kakarot, "You better come back in one piece or we'll come find you and kill you."
"Yeah, don't make us come looking for you." Lazuli said with a dangerous smile.
"Bulma told me she installed the best communication system, you three better use it or I'll worry and you know it's not good when I worry." Gine said with an eerie glint in her eyes.
"Of course, we'll make sure to do that." Kakarot hurriedly said before his father or brother said something smart that would incur the wrath of the women.
"We have to get going." Bardock said as they said their last goodbyes. He turned to his soldiers that were staying on earth.
"Lapis, I'm counting on you to lead Deva in my absence."
"You can count on me." Lapis said standing at attention.
The three saiyans and the lone Solarian gave one last look before stepping onto the ship. Gine let her last tears shed as her husband, two of her sons and what was like a son left only to step into the line of danger. Her best friend, Piper was her support.
Aboard the Last Sight
Bardock stood at the helm of the ship. Raditz and Kalaseos had gone off training. Kakarot decided to keep his father company standing next to him. Both saiyans were looking out the massive window out into the darkness of space.
"Dad." Bardock grunted in response, "We're going to end it this time."
It was more of a statement than a question. Bardock kept his eyes forward. He could feel the fire burning inside his son. He smiled and turned towards him.
"Of course, it's time we lived up to our warrior reputation." Bardock answered, "They'll know exactly what hit them."
Kakarot smiled, "I'm going to go show Raditz and Kalaseos what a real warrior is."
Bardock nodded to his son as he left. He needed them to stay focused, to train as hard as they could. They would need to be prepared for what was inevitable. He knew Frieza had been experimenting on his soldiers giving them strange powers. There had been rumors around the galaxy but it had been confirmed when he saw it on earth. Who knows what he did to himself, Bardock didn't want to take any chances.
His thoughts shifted to the king of saiyans. Vegeta had come a long way from that bratty, spoiled boy he used to be. Although he still let his emotions control. Their last meeting hadn't ended on a good one, in fact he had promised to kill the earth saiyan and his family.
-Flashback, Vegeta III-
Bardock, Taro and Raditz stood in front of Vegeta who sat on his throne. The smug look that his father wore and his father before him sat bearing down on the three saiyans.
"Have you finally given up your fool's dream of a peaceful life and decided to join my empire?"
"Don't be so naïve, Vegeta." Bardock said making the king frown.
"It's King Vegeta to you!" He roared in frustration.
"Look, I came here to tell you to stop sending your saiyans to recruit my soldiers." Bardock told him.
Anger flooded the short saiyans eyes. In an instant he began firing ki blasts at the trio. After a minute or so of relentless blasting he stopped. A maniacal laughter filled the air. Smoke obscured the fate of non-empire saiyans.
"It was about time that bastard was put in his place." Nappa said smirking.
"That will be the fate of all those who defy—." He stopped as the smoke cleared revealing Bardock and his companions unscathed.
Waving the remainder of the smoke away Bardock looked on impassively, "You should really work on that anger but remember what I said."
Vegeta could do nothing but sit and fume as he watched his former comrades walk out of his throne room. A scream that released all of his anger ripped through the air.
"Rrraaaahhh, One day you'll learn your place trash, cross me and you and your family with fall to my hand!" He screamed to the fleeting figures.
-Flashback End-
Bardock frowned as he knew that Vegeta could hold a grudge just like his father could. He knew that he wasn't really a threat at the moment as Frieza was first on Vegeta's kill list. He shook Vegeta from his thoughts and moved to join the boys in training.
Back on earth things were about to start getting hectic. Shady characters lurking in the shadow had taken notice of the departure of Bardock and his sons. Old enemies and new ones alike were plotting to take advantage of the time that they had.
Mount Paozu
Piper had been through a lot in her life, good and bad. The good outweighed the bad in the last two decades. Although she had lost her husband, she gained a new family. Gine had become her best friend and Kakarot had married her daughter and given her a grandson. She couldn't be happier, but fate would have to say otherwise.
As she drove up the winding road of Mount Paozu her car stopped. She pushed down on the petal making the engine rev but there was still no movement. There was a strong jerk and suddenly she was in the air. From the forest came a man with blond hair, a solemn look adorned his face.
Piper crawled out of the floating car. Her face was stuck in a shocked position as she laid eyes on her attacker.
"It's been a while…sis." He said smiling at his twin.
"Peter, what are you doing here?" She asked still in shock.
His face turned from a happy one into a solemn one, "The elders have requested your presence."
Piper's face fell, she had dreaded this moment since she left her family as a young girl. Her family had special rules but they had made an exception for her but it didn't come without a price.
"Peter, you don't want to do this." She pleaded.
Hurt was evident on his face, "I don't want to do this, Piper but somebody had to stay behind and take responsibility."
Piper inwardly flinched at the jab. She didn't want to put all the weight on her brother's shoulders but she couldn't take the life was living anymore.
"This won't end well, Peter." She said as she stood up.
Peter grabbed on to his twin sister and the two vanished in a strike of lightning. The ground where they once stood was now nothing but scorched earth. Beneath the soot was a symbol, a wolf's head. About a minute after the lightning struck, Lapis appeared in the air. The long haired saiyan descended down to the ground.
As he surveyed the area his eyes fell on a familiar car. Panic was all he felt, his mother was absent and her car looked like it had been in a crash. He flared his power to alert the others of his location. He paced as he waited for their arrival.
His sister was the first to arrive since she was only up the road. He had to stop her from going on a rampage. Soon the others were there Krillin, Tien and Leek were worried for Piper.
"What do you think happened?" Tien asked Lapis.
"I don't know, I was on my way to check on Lazuli and Gohan when I heard a loud boom. When I got here I found the ground like this and my mom's car over there." He said trying to keep his composure.
"What's that on the ground?" Krillin asked spotting the wolf symbol on the ground.
Everyone turned their attention to the mark on the ground. The twins walked over to the blackened earth. The rest of their friends crowded around them. Lapis and Lazuli looked at it with unfamiliarity.
"I've never seen it before." Lazuli said.
"Me either." Lapis added.
"Well it has to mean something. I mean no one marks the ground with a wolf's head for no reason." Krillin reasoned.
"I can't sense mom anywhere." Lapis said in a downtrodden tone.
Lazuli dropped her head in despair before raising it with fire in her eyes, "Tell Gine she'll have to keep Gohan, I'll be back later."
"Lazuli, wait!" Lapis' cry was in vain as his sister had left his voice range.
The blonde hybrid had left a white streak in her sudden exit. Lapis smashed his fist into a nearby tree, splintering it. A roar of frustration forced itself out of his throat. His friends stood still not knowing how to comfort him.
"I'm going to look for her." He looked down on them from his spot in the air, "I'm the first one to know if you find anything."
"I still think that mark is important." The former monk couldn't keep his eyes off of the wolf's head.
"Maybe Master Roshi knows about it." Tien inquired.
Leek being the most tech savvy pulled out a small camera and took a picture of the symbol.
"What are we waiting for?" He asked with a smirk.
"Let's go." Krillin was the first into the air, Tien and Leek weren't far behind.
The Deva warriors made it to Kame House in no time. Master Roshi and Grandpa Gohan sat outside enjoying the sunny weather warranted by living on an island. The appearance of the three warriors surprised the two elderly men.
"What do we owe the pleasure to?" Grandpa Gohan said standing up greeting them.
The elderly man's smile disappeared as he saw the grim looks the young men were wearing. As if their emotions controlled the weather, a dark cloud slowly made its way over the Kame House and with it a foul feeling in the air.
Leek pulled the device with the picture out of his forever present bag. He handed it to Gohan, said man tensed as soon as his eyes landed on the symbol.
"So you know what it means?" Krillin asked eager to find answers for his friends.
"What's all the fuss—?" Roshi snatched the thin device from Gohan. His eyes were hidden behind his sunglasses but it was evident that the symbol meant something to him. "Where did you get this?"
The mood seemed to get worse. No one spoke for a while before Tien decided to speak up.
"Something happened and Miss Piper has gone missing and." Tien looked down at the wolf's head, "That is the only evidence we have."
"This is not good, not good at all." Roshi began pacing back and forth.
"What's his problem, I mean it can't be that bad?" Leek asked watching the old man.
Before Gohan could speak up Roshi snapped out of his trance, "We must find my sister."
"No need to work your old bones." A small voice said from behind them.
All eyes turned to find a small elderly woman in witches clothing floating on a crystal ball. Accompanying her were her two most trusted and powerful warriors, Spike the Devil Man and Bandages the mummy.
"How could you be so stupid Roshi?" She scolded as she floated closer to her baby brother, "A full blooded member of the Urufu covenant and two of her offspring under your nose for two decades!"
Roshi flinched as his sister's screeching voice but she was right. His negligence could be their downfall. A quick flashback to his childhood made him shudder.
"How was I supposed to know she was of that accursed bloodline!?" Roshi screamed back getting in her face.
Before the bickering could continue, Gohan interrupted them by firing a small ki blast into the space between them getting their attention.
"Well if it isn't little Gohan, I thought you'd be dead by now." The small witch said.
Gohan sighed, "Now is not the time for family squabbles, we need to inform our young friends of the dire situation that we're in." In a different situation he would laugh at the irony of his statement.
"You're all going to die." Baba said casually.
Roshi put his face in his head as he shook it, "Let's finish this conversation in the house."
Everyone sashayed into the house with the exception of Baba's two bodyguards. Gathered in the small front of the Kame House everyone sat silently waiting for Roshi to come back from wherever he went. A few minutes later he came back with a box.
He pulled out a large old book with an Aquarian star on it, "Before I start I should probably tell you that I come from a family of witches and warlocks."
If anyone was surprised by the information they didn't show it. Although it shouldn't have come as a big surprise as his elder sister was a witch and you could only be born a witch.
"If that's true, why have we never seen you perform magic?" Krillin asked his former sensei.
"Old baldy over there was born with minimal magical aptitude." She said as a small smile appeared on her face.
"In other words, I was born with so little spiritual essence that I couldn't perform magic." Roshi revealed.
"That's why he became a martial artist." Baba added.
"Shut up, you old biddy!" Roshi yelled at his sister. The old martial arts master calmed down and continued his story.
"I come from a prominent covenant, the Fenikkusu covenant." He let the information sink in, "There are only three other covenants that I know of and one of them bare the symbol of the wolf's head, the Urufu."
"You're taking too long, you're getting slow in your old age, speed it up!" Baba yelled.
"You're older than me!" Everybody sweat dropped at the child like argument of the two oldest beings they knew.
"Like I was saying before she interrupted me." Roshi glared at his sister, "Long story short, the Urufu are an extremely strong family that still follow the old ways and they think they're superior to everyone else."
"What are the old ways?" Tien asked getting to the root.
Roshi put his head down as darkness seemed to close in on the occupants of the room. The silence soon became almost unbearable. Tien opened his mouth to speak but they were yet again surprised by a visitor. At first there was no one there, just a voice.
"The two eldest twins merge and the twin that survives goes on to lead the covenant."
Peter's face appeared in the doorway, followed by his body. The serious look on his face made the others put their guard up. Tien, Krillin and Leek got into their fighting stances.
Peter put his hand up, "I did not come here to fight."
"Who are you?" Tien asked with all three of his eyes on the warlock.
"I am Peter of the Urufu covenant." This revelation was all the three warriors needed to hear to jump into action.
In an instant they were on him. Krillin held his left arm, while Leek held the right and Tien had his muscled arm around his neck.
"I said I didn't come here to fight." Peter said standing next to Roshi whom he glared at, "So the phoenix line didn't die out after all."
The captured Peter disappeared into nothingness surprising the earth warriors. Peter sat down on the couch freely as the Deva warriors were still shocked.
"Like I was saying before, I am a member of the Urufu coven, the next in line to lead actually but I'm also the twin brother of Piper."
"What did you do to her?" Krillin growled.
Peter avoided the monk's eyes, "I had to." He said softly.
"You had to what!" Tien screamed.
"If I didn't bring her in, they would have sent someone else and you don't want to know how brutal my family can be!" The warlock screamed back.
"Where is she?" Tien asked picking him up by the shirt.
"I can't tell you that, I just came here to tell you that you have until dusk on the second day of the full moon to save her."
"You—." Tien's punched missed its mark as Peter disappeared again.
"There's nothing we can do now." Roshi said with sadness dripping in his tone.
"We better tell Lapis and Lazuli." Leek suggested.
"And then we find these bastards." Krillin said with a familiar fire in his eyes.
Before any of the elders could protest the three young men were gone. Roshi looked over to his sister with serious eyes.
"If the wolves are rising, so are the others." He took on a tone that even Gohan had never heard, "We must get the rest of the covenant together."
"Already done, what do you think I came here for?" The witch wore a crooked smile.
"Gohan, I'm sorry old friend but you can't be a part of this."
"I understand master, I will make myself scarce."
With that Gohan walked out of the house and into the air he went. A thousand thoughts were running through his head. He had known Roshi most of his life and he had never questioned the man about his family. Sure he knew about the covenants be had never known that his master was a member of one of the strongest ones in existence.
He looked up into the now dark sky, "It seems trouble knew you guys were gone and now chaos has made its way back into our lives. Be safe wherever you are.
He truly treasured his saiyan family. Before he was just a lonely old man and now he had a surrogate family that included grandkids.
I'm getting my word count back up but oh boy things are starting to heat up. Bardock took his sons to take the fight to Frieza. By the way he doesn't know anything about Vegeta being captured, Taro died before he could tell him. What's going to happen when they get to Vegeta III and he's not there.
I also mentioned Frieza doing experiments on his soldiers and possibly himself. I just played on the fact that they say he is a mutant. How much stronger is he than his canon counterpart. That part of his this saga will come into play next chapter.
So how'd you like the witch/warlock idea? And don't worry they will not be getting slaughtered by the Ki using fighters, I have a way to make them formidable. If anyone can guess where I got the idea for the covenants I will make you one of the members of Roshi's covenant.
Enough of that, until next time, LKnight out!
