Chapter Fourteen: In the Study

Hello my pretties! I hope you're ready for more Sess-kun!

It's been Christmas time as well as New Years and everything has a little insane around the home. With all the decorating, baking and wrapping... It's a madhouse! It always is around my house.

Anyway, I will work hard and provide you all with a good amount of chapters and hopefully I'll finish this story within a couple of months. Please bear with me!

I hope you all can enjoy this and review please! Mama loves big reviews!

Kagome breathed in a sigh of relief after stepping inside the apartment. She felt happy to be back and was eager to eat her breakfast in peace without her friends constantly jumping on her.

Holding her crepes close, she walked into the kitchen to grab some more coffee. As she placed the crepes into the microwave for a quick heating, she noticed the coffee pot was empty. She had left it there almost full-

Kagome smiled as she remembered Sesshomaru, he liked his coffee and was most likely working now wih the help of the caffeine.

The bookworm quickly threw her breakfast into the fridge and made her way towards the study. She was eager to see her favorite author sipping from his coffee mug. If he really liked her coffee, he must want more in the future.

Where is all this energy coming from? I-It's just coffee. Nothing special...

Kagome shook her head to clear her mind and licked her lips as she knocked on the door, gentle but firm.

There was no answer and it seemed quiet within the closed doors. But then again, Sesshomaru was a very quiet individual, he most likely enjoyed his quiet too. All good people liked silence every now and again, especially authors while they write their masterpieces. That was most likely the reason behind the silence anyway...

Kagome slowly entered the study only to see no Sesshomaru or papers being written. The bookworm slowly made her way towards the desk, being careful and avoiding possibly fragile entire room was quiet and the lights were currently turned off, as well as the writer's computer.

Kagome traced her fingers along the wood trim of he desk and peered at the stack of papers and folders sitting by his keyboard.

The stack had labels with numbers and were sealed shut. Kagome felt her curiosity peak as she stroked the top file, being careful to avoid the seal.

"Is it a new story?" she wondered out loud. Her finger touched the top of the file and she could barely feel the rippled stack of papers hidden within.

The silence of the room seemed reassuring and her curiosity spike as she moved her hand over the folder. Sesshomaru was nowhere to be seen, there was no evidence of his being here in the apartment. She heard no water running or footsteps on the hardwood floors. Kagome felt safe and wondering about what contents lay within the confines of the files.

Kagome could feel her throat go dry as she touched the seal. Maybe just a quick peek...?

It was very sudden, the door slammed open and Kagome cried out. She fell backwards and her feet flew into the air as her back hit the floor.

"What are doing in here, woman?" came her idol's strict voice. Without even setting her eyes on him, she knew his golden eyes would be narrowed and sparking with fury. What was she thinking?! She had trespassed and was going through his property! What the hell was wrong with her-

"Come on, get up."

Kagome looked up to see Sesshomaru bending over her, his eyes scanning her. His long white hair was falling over his shoulders, slightly wet and smelling of pine and violet. He was currently wearing a black form-fitting long sleeved shirt and jeans. Kagome blinked as she felt heat rise in her cheeks. "U-Um." was all she could muster.

Sesshomaru sighed and held out his hand, "Come on, get off the floor. It doesn't suit you."

Kagome hesitantly took his hand, allowing him to pull her to her feet. His fingers were a little warm and moist, the skin slightly red.

As Kagome quickly straightened herself, she felt her cheeks redden. She held her hands to her front and looked at the floor in shame. Sesshomaru held up on of the files, his eyes scanning over the unbroken seal. His eyes then looked at his caretaker, from what the girl could see, there was no trace of anger or even frustration. In fact, she couldn't read his face at all.

With his free hand, Sesshomaru flicked his long hair out of his face, sending small droplets of water onto the carpet. Kagome watched in awe at his graceful movements, her eyes concentrating on his smooth skin and golden eyes.

So beautiful...

She quickly clenched her hands in an attempt to pull herself out of the small trance he placed on her.

"Why are you in here? And touching my things?" he asked cooly, his eyes staring down at her. Sesshomaru's gaze was enough to place Kagome's heart ablaze. His eyes never left her and his position stood strong above her as he waited for her answer.

Kagome swallowed the growing lump in her throat as she looked into his gaze. She was by no means a true liar and she didn't want to start today. Being honest was something she took pride in and that differed greatly from her sister. Kikyo was one who could lie easily and get away with anything, unlike her sister.

Kagome wet her lips and clenched her hands. "I-I was looking for you and found your study. A-And your work..." she managed to say clearly as she looked away. Her hands gently shook in nervousness, her mind swimming with possibilities of the reactions he would have. Her nervousness only grew as his silence filled the room.

Sesshomaru could easily see her hesitance and worrisome expression, he sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. He looked back down at her and placed his file back into the desk; "Don't worry about it, I'm sure you meant no harm."

Kagome looked up with a small look of disbelief. "If my father believed you could be here, a complete stranger, then why shouldn't I trust you? Out of all the annoying aspects, my father is an honest man. He must have seen something in you." he mumbled.

Kagome blinked in confusion, "Um-"

"Don't worry about it." he said firmly as he looked towards the door. He placed his hands on his hips as he locked his eyes at the exit. Kagome let out a breath at his movements as her mind calmed as well as her beating heart. He wasn't mad... At least she thought he wasn't.

"Let's head back to the kitchen, I'd like some more of you coffee. If you don't mind." he mumbled.

Kagome heard him clearly and was shocked by his sudden statement. Her body was still, no knowing completely how to respond. Her mind and mouth were ready and she felt a rush of excitement at his eagerness to have more of her coffee. If eagerness was the right word to describe his tone.

Kagome nodded and stood straight, placing her hands together. "Sure! I'll whip up a fresh pot!"

Excitement was clear in her voice and her heart felt light and happy at the change. Her mind was now cleared of unhappy and nervous thoughts and she couldn't feel happier.

She bounded out of the study behind Sesshomaru and into the kitchen.

Hours later with a fresh pot or two of Kagome's coffee, the two were sitting comfortably at the kitchen table with mugs in their hands. They had been engorged in deep conversations about literature and other factors of their lives. It was calming and Kagome felt remarkably at ease as they talked. Though Sesshomaru was a little less talkative, he seemed keen on making sure they would get better acquainted. It was something that made Kagome feel assured and hopeful that he would be willing to open up and enjoy talking to her.

She smiled as he sipped from his mug, his eyes shut in a peaceful expression. Sesshomaru was quite the looked she had to admit. Kagome eyed his clean white hair and pale skin, her cheeks lightly lit up. He had his father's facial structure and long locks, but his skin seemed softer due to younger age. It seemed soft and supple like an infant's skin.

Kagome unconsciously felt her fingers twitch at an attempt to touch his skin. Her mind quickly caught on and she clenched her hands to prevent more unconcious movement.

Sesshomaru placed his mug down and peered at the bookworm across from him. Her cheeks were a little red and her eyes seemed glazed over in thought. Her hands were clenched and her shoulders were slightly elevated.

He had only known her for a short time but he could sense something about her that peaked his interest. She seemed very different from others who would approach him, she was quiet and polite. This girl made delicious food and a mean cup of coffee. Though she had gone into his office and touched his files, she was honest and willing to admit her mistakes of trespassing.

Light was let into the room from the French-doored porch, which was no longer hiding behind the dark curtains. Outside, the snow fell slowly as afternoon passed and evening came. The street lights illuminated the city around them and cool winds brushed along the glass windows. The two looked towards them and watched the snow fall as the sun fell behind distant clouds.

Kagome felt her lips curl into a delicate smile at the sight of the sunset. "It's beautiful." she heard herself mumble.

Sesshomaru looked at her ou of the corner of his eye. "What?" he asked.

Kagome looked at the mug in her hands. "It's beautiful, I've never seen a snowy sunset like this..." she said tenderly. "Surely you must have seen one, everyday whether snowy or sunny has a sunset." he said.

Kagome smiled, "I've been limited to seeing beautiful things like this. My mother limited my interaction with the outside world for a while when I was young and my childhood wasn't exactly great..." she trailed off as she felt her mind dull over. She never heard herself speak of her childhood in front of someone and her mind mentally slapped itself.

She sweatdropped and quickly waved her hands in front of her in a failed attempt at cutting off the conversation. "I-I don't want to bore you with the details! I-I'm sorry! It's just a beautiful sunset!"

Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes slightly as he examined his caretaker. That was sudden and strange. But what she said was true, it was a beautiful sunset. He admired the scene but there was one thing that seemed to bring his attention away from it.

The light from the windows illuminated the room made the bookworm glow. Her black hair was shining and her skin gleamed lightly. Her brown eyes concentrated on the sun, a light smile on her pink lips. She seemed plain and simple but this bookworm was interesting in her own way despite the short amount of time they'd known eachother. She was easy on the eyes as well.

The sunset is not the only thing that's beautiful...
