This chapter was by far the hardest chapter ive ever the thought of making Elena piss everyone off was enough to make me cringe.
But its necessary for the plot so you've got an annoying Elena..
And this chapter was split in half for three reasons, One; because it was getting far too long. Two; I really wanted to get it out of the way and Three; because i kinda havent finished it yet.. still editing..

It had taken Elena a very long while to be able to get to the meeting point where Steve and Peggy would be waiting for Howard to take them.

And Elena had to convince Peggy to get her onto this plane without Howard or Steve knowing.

It had been subtle, but Elena had definitely heard the 'I'm' when Steve was speaking to her about it and it was blatantlyobvious to her that Steve didn't want her going either.

But there was no way in hell she couldn't go.

If they both died on enemy lines she would never forgive herself and she couldn't live with something like that on her shoulders.

So when she hid in the bathroom of her father's aircraft hangar, waiting patiently for Peggy to come in (or rather hoping the older woman would 'take a tinkle' before doing this mission) she quickly pounced on the woman the second she walked in.

Taking the older woman by the arms she gave her a desperate look before shaking her gently, "I need that favor now" she pressed, saying it as quickly as possible so that Peggy may get confused and just say yes.

But alas, Peggy wasnt Elena's father.

Which Elena had yet to stop making the same mistake in thinking that Peggy was.

Peggy frowned and gave her a look that made her want to shrink down into her shoes and hide from the entire world.

It made Elena think back to the time when she had accidentally trekked mud into the house and felt so guilty when she ran over top of his blueprints.

She had felt so guilty she apologized immensely and tried to make him a coffee to appease him.

Which hadn't ended all that well considering at the time Elena had no clue how to make coffee.

He'd given her a look not unlike the one she was receiving now, and it didn't make her feel any better about the situation.

Peggy crossed her arms, using every ounce of intimidation on Elena and merely stared her down for a moment.

Elena was beginning to doubt her plan.

If she couldn't convince Peggy to get her onto this aircraft, then Elena wouldn't be able to get over to enemy lines, couldn't find James, couldn't tell him how she felt-

"Elena," Peggy's stern voice cut in, harbouring no mercy in the tone, "Please do not tell me you're thinking of doing what I believe you think you're doing."

Looking over Elena's attire and idly making Elena feel very ugly she added, "Because I sincerely thought you were not this stupid"

Elena flinched, feeling dejected and as put out as she ever had.

Ouch.. that hurt..

Did no one have any faith in her? She thought if anybody would urge her to go on this mission, it would be Peggy.

She had just spent an entire month with this woman and fighting her with an aggression Elena didn't even know she had before then.

Yet here they stood, opposite sides, and Elena felt her heart breaking.

She might never see James again.

She would neer know what he told her.

Steve might die as well, so that means she really wouldn't have any more friends here.

This was it. She had to get on that plane. Even if nobody was going to help her out with this.

She would strap herself onto a wing if she had to.

And before she knew it, Elena was speaking.

"What if it was Steve Peggy?" she said softly, so softly that it was almost silent to her OWN ears and briefly wondered if Peggy had even heard her, but didn't dare look up in fear of the older woman's stare to make her loose her words.

She with eyes firmly on the dirty tiled ground, Elena continued.

"What if.. Steve was the one over enemy lines?" pausing momentarily to lick her dry lips, "Wouldnt you go?"

it was only then when Elena raised her eyes, forcing herself to stare into the womans own eyes and try to convey all of her desperation into one look and a few words..

"Wouldnt you do anything to go and save him?" she finished.

Her voice breaking and tears stinging at her eyes, her nose burning with the strong urge to cry.

She knew it was dangerous. Hell, she knew in her mind that there was a very high chance of her never coming back from this if she went on a rampage into war.

There was a reason people detested war and the reason was plain and simple; death.

Did she want to die? No.

Did she want to get hurt? No.

All she wanted was James, and it didn't seem like a very appropriate reason for her to be doing this but by god she had to.

There was no one else.

Not a true friend like Steve who would hold her hand when things got rough or remind her of all of the good things in the world.

No James who after 19 years of having no interest in a boy made her fall in love in a matter of minutes.

All they really had was letters, but that was enough.

James was enough.

Steve was enough.

Without them would be hell.

And that's all that really mattered to her.

War wasnt a joke, people got shot, limbs got amputated, men were captured and tortured and no one would hold her hand.

Steve had a plan that didn't involve her and there was no guarantee he would allow her on this mission with him once she made it there.

She would have to make another speech trying to convince him and she only had the basic self-defense knowledge that Peggy had taught her.

Elena wasnt ready for this, but that didn't matter to her.

Because she couldn't imagine a life without James or Steve.

Throughout her inner battle with herself it seemed that Peggy had done some thinking of her own.

Taking in Elena's words and digesting them, thinking, really thinking about what she said.

And somehow, throughout her heartbreak and words and tears..

Peggy broke.

Elena heard the sigh before she saw it, watching the older woman uncurl her arms and give her the driest look known to man.

"Alright then Faye. I'll help." Elena jumped up in shock and a huge smile broke out on her face, but it seemed she didn't have time to get excited or show her gratitude since Peggy's serious face was back and she gave her a grim tone, "But there's only one way you're getting on this plane.."

Laying down while being squished by all sides by metal and wood was decidedly uncomfortable, and even worse when her stolen parachute was digging uncomfortably in places on her back she didn't even know she had.

But on the bright side it scratched that itch she'd gotten not two minutes after the plane lifted off of the ground.

She was currently hiding in Peggy's seat on the plane which was apparently the 'best she could do'

It sounded like bullshit biscuits to Elena.

Everytime the plane would jolt, which happened to be a lot, Elena would get jolted with it and hit the metal hard on the way down.

And if this wasn't bad enough, as if it wasn't already bad enough, Elena could clearly hear everything that was being spoken in the aircraft.

Or rather, her father being creepy and attempting to hit on Peggy.

There were only a few things in this world that were truly disgusting to Elena, but her dad talking lake a common playboy made her cringe in her cramped confinements.

Which didn't even allow her to try to block her ears.

The things I do for you James..

And Elena had to hold in her grossed out groan when she heard her father speak up again.

"Agent Carter! If we're not in too much of a hurry I thought we could stop off in Lucerne for a late night fondue.."

Oh Elena could just feel his creepy smirk and his mustache twitching when he spoke.

"And he calls himself a bachelor.." Elena mumbled to herself.

Another kick to the side indicated that perhaps Elena had spoken too loud and she was quick to zip her lips, closing her eyes for good measure as she listened tensely to Steve's voice and waiting to hear any indication that he had heard her.

She found none and breathed out a silent breath of relief, wincing when the plane bumped again and she was jabbed in the side.

Elena thought for a moment that that might finally be the last bump until she heard a loud explosion just outside the plane and her stomach dropped when the plane started to twist and turn unpredictably.

Elena held onto the sides of the plane and began panting in panic.

Was this supposed to be happening?

More explosions came and she heard yelling above her signalling that Steve had gotten up and Peggy was trying to get him back into his seat.

Although that might not be happening since Elena's ears were ringing and she couldn't do anything but hold onto metal and pray for the jolting to stop.

It felt somewhat less scary to Elena since she couldn't see or hear anything, and since Peggy wasn't panicking it couldn't be too dangerous.

She decided to jut stick with that thought until another explosion was heard and was big enough for the plane to swerve and Elena to be rolled out of her hiding space under the seat.

Light flooded her eyes and she was able to see the inside of the plane, Steve was missing and Peggy was staring wide-eyed at her and keeping her hand on Howard's shoulder to keep him looking straight ahead.

But that wasnt the worst of it.

Elena could see bullets and explosions happening all around them and it was a miracle that the plane wasnt getting hit by any of it.

Shit, Steve had already jumped out.

Elena whirled, turning to rush to the exit and was glad the door was still open from Steve's departure.

What she saw was terrifying.

A huge expanse of trees, grass, dirt, all hurling at a speed that wasnt funny.

Elena looked to Peggy in blind panic to try to get some type of pep talking look before she actually jumped, since she was seriously considering just sitting back down and not getting out of this plane at all.

Seeing it up close was horrifying.

Hearing it was even worse.

She could be at home, in her warm bed, worried but still safe.

Who cares if she'd gotten this far it was good enough for-

When Elena's eyes focused on Peggy's she saw what seemed like a mirror of her own expression and was shocked to see that Peggy as having a hard time trying to tell Elena to 'hurry up and get out of the plane' silently while trying to keep Howard from catching Elena.

Several times Howard had tried to turn around but Peggy kept a firm hand on his shoulder to keep him staring forward.

And also giving her a firm look to 'move her ass'.

Elena turned her head back to the ground, which looked just as much as scary as it had before, if not worse before looking to Peggy again for help.

But it seemed Howard really needed to see the back of the plane and turned his head to investigate what Peggy was staring at so intensely.

And something happened that Elena never thought she would see in her entire life.

Peggy, in a rush to keep Howard's eyes off of Elena, forced her gorgeous red lips over his.

Disgusted, Elena stepped back to try and get away from the sight and with her step she fell back and out of the plane.

But that didn't mean she didn't see that horrifying glare Peggy had sent her with a dark promise of 'im going to get you back Faye'.

Falling.

Not very fun, as it turns out.

As soon as her feet left the plane her weight dragged her down stomach first, plummeting to her death.

She remembered when she was younger and how when she used to jump off her bed and fall into a bed of pillows that were waiting for her.

This was nothing like that.

Her eyes watered like crazy, her mouth got a handful of air thrust into it the second she opened it a crack, her voice was stuck in her throat and there was a constant feeling of unbalance yet there was nothing to hold onto but herself.

Elena couldn't see the ground, and she sure as hell couldn't see Steve's damned parachute.

She had a plan before getting out of the plane.

Jump out. Find Steve. Storm through the gates. Get James. Go home.

Yet, all she managed to do so far was fall face first towards the ground without any clue as to how she was meant to find a parachute in the midst of wind and all of these trees and snow.

Parachute.

That was the key word here.

Because Elena couldnt seem to freaking pull it out.

She yanked on the strap as hard as she could with her momentum and falling but it neither budged nor worked.

Well darn.

The trees were rushing up to meet her with a very painful death and there was nothing Elena could do about it.

And just when Elena believed that she was going to die, by a stroke of dumb luck the straps from her useless parachute got caught in the trees.

There were snapping sounds, a painful pulling on her shoulders that forced Elena back until her back hit a tree trunk.

Elena cried put upon impact and her vision was blurred, it was only when she could move her fingers again when sherealised her parachute had latched onto the branches and Elena was suspended in midair being held uncomfortably by her shoulders.

This was embarrassing, completely mortifying.

If Elena had been seen or hear then she was definitely dead, since there was no way in hell she was getting down on her own.

She was stuck.

Stuck, embarrassed, clueless and maybe concussed but all in all..

Not dead.

It astonished her just how far she had gotten on her own for the first time in her life.

She'd snuck onto a plane, with Peggy's help but that was besides the point, stolen a parachute, ignored her fathers direct order and jumped blindly out of a plane all for one man who may or may not even be alive.

And it was all she could do to merely sit here now.

Elena supposed that she could be proud of this, of the small accomplishments she'd made in the last six hours.

She would go out for love.

She couldn't think of a better way to die.

Her only regret was that if anybody was to find her she would be completely humiliated with how she was hanging from a tree by her parachute and there was no way for her to get out of it.

She would most likely starve to death and if HYDRA found her they may use her as leverage to manipulate Howard.

She was sorry about that part and was suddenly overcome with the sense of guilt threatening to eat her alive.

Their last words to each other had been an argument and perhaps her father would never forgive her.

She supposed she deserved it.

The speech he made was beautiful and she repaid him by running off for a man.

Exactly what he feared.

She wished that maybe she could've told him that she appreciated all that he did for her, taking her in at a young age, supporting her in her dreams, reading her bedtime stories even when he'd been up for 40 hours doing tests on a new experiment.

How many girls wished for a father like that and she hadn't even left him a goodbye letter.

All seemed lost for Elena.

She decided that she would try to sleep and hopefully pass peacefully in her dreams.

Although unlikely she allowed herself to hope for it.

Closing her eyes, thinking of James and-

"Elena?"

Her eyes snapped open and she felt all of her emotions fall over her at once when she saw Steve Rogers dressed for battle with his shield in hand, looking up at her with the most dumbstruck look on his face, looking like he couldn't believe his eyes.

"Steve!" Elena exclaimed.

Her tone sounding almost as relieved as she felt.

Steve's head shook in disbelief before he blurted, "You've gotta be kidding me.."

And its holidays here in NZ so I'll be working on this throughout my two weeks off school :D
