"Hey Zoe, you coming tonight?" Cal shouted as he saw her walking by.

"Tonight?" Zoe questioned wracking her brains looking for any type of event that she could have planned to attend tonight.

"Yeah tonight, the Christmas party down the pub"

"Oh yeah, of course that's tonight"

"You don't already have plans do you? Because don't tell anyone I told you this but I'm your secret Santa and spent hours this week finding something to give you" Cal jumped in before she could tell him if she was coming or not "Plus I'm sure if you don't turn up to get that gift Ethan will be very annoyed with me because I made him help me find you something" Cal said jokingly.

"No, no it's fine I'll be there I just forgot with all the chaos going on in here" she replied before getting called away by Dixie who was wheeling a new patient through the doors.

Zoe had just exited resus after just finishing treating her patient and was closely followed by Max as she made her way to the staffroom to make some coffee.

"You know you're very hot when you're working, right?" Max whispered into her ear as he arrived behind her.

"Shut up" she replied elbowing him in the stomach "do you want a coffee?"

"Firstly, ow and secondly if you're offering how can I say no" Max grabbed her hand and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"What was that for?" Zoe sked turning to face him and giving him a smile.

"Because I love you"

"What do you want?" Zoe asked suspiciously

"I need you to help me with my secret Santa gift"

"Seriously Max, you haven't got yours yet?" Zoe pulled her hand from his and crossed her hands over her chest.

"Ummm, no" Max replied smiling sheepishly at her, trying to grab her hand so he could hold it again but failing.

"They're being exchanged tonight!" Zoe exclaimed.

Max gave up trying to get her hand so wrapped his arms around her waist instead and replied "I know, I know that's why I need your help"

"Fine, who've you got" Zoe relented sighing and uncrossing her arms. The kettle finally stopped boiling and she turned around so she could make her coffee.

"Lilly"

"Yeah sorry, but you're on your own with that one" Zoe replied taking her coffee and quickly leaving shouting on her way out "don't forget your coffee" while Max just stood there staring after her from her sudden exit.

"Success" he muttered smiling proudly at the fact that he'd just manage to slip Zoe's ring back on her finger without her noticing, although he had doubted that idea at first when Cal suggested it, it'd actually worked to his surprise. Max grabbed his coffee from the side and walked out of the staffroom.
