The Clumsiness of Clouseau
Evidently, Inspector Jacques Clouseau, a French police detective, was an anomaly among policemen. Always so sure of himself and his clues and hunches, he didn't usually recognize it when he messed up a crime scene, or he acted innocent to shake off the guilt. His intelligence was a bit sub-par, too. He was fooled by a "blind" beggar who was a lookout man for a gang of bank robbers, by being distracted from the robbery by the beggar and his "minkey." Not exactly a model police officer, most people would agree, particularly his boss, who hated him intimately.
However, certain people recognized his deeds as an effective inspector, and insisted on honoring him. Those who reviled him never could understand how he could garner such fame, nor how the minority that loved Clouseau could so easily overrule the majority that called him an idiot.
