"James look, Harry's doing it again!"

Lily laughed delicately as her one year old son waved his arms in the air, multi-coloured bubbles popping around him. He grinned in delight as they showered him with sparkles.

"That's my boy" said James proudly. "His second burst of magic! Hey Lil, did I ever tell you we made a wonderful kid?"

"Every day for the past year" she replied as she wrapped her arms around her husband. The sun was setting and soon they could show Harry the floating candy canes Remus bought them for Halloween.

"Well, I reckon he knows it, just look at his face" James said as he watched his son happily bursting the bubbles around him. Suddenly, he sneezed as a shower landed on his face. The couple burst out laughing at seeing how happy there son was.

"I can't believe it's Halloween already" Lily said, half distracted. Something was nagging at the back of her mind, but she didn't know what.

"Yeah, but I can't help but feel like we're missing something big here" said James, frowning. It felt as if someone had blocked his memory…

… "Oh god Lil, I remember".

"What?" she asked. "What happened to us?"

"We travelled to the future, we saw him, Harry" said James. "Voldemort killed us but Harry lived and…. Oh Merlin, it's tonight. He's coming tonight"

"Oh James!" she cried, burying her face in his shoulder.

"Whatever happens now, just know that I love you so very much" he whispered, kissing her forehead and holding her close.

"I love you too" whispered Lily, tears streaming down her face.

"When he comes, you take Harry and go upstairs, I'll hold him-

BANG.

The door burst open to reveal the dark lord, wearing black robes and an evil smile.

"Lily, take Harry and go! It's him! Go! Run! I'll hold him off"

James shout was lost under Voldemort's cruel sadistic laughter. With one last whispered "I love you" Lily tore up the stairs with her son in her arms.

Once in Harry's room, she barricaded the door and set the young boy down gently in his crib. She pulled out her wand and called on the deepest part of her soul.

"Harry be safe" she whispered. "Be strong. Harry momma loves you; dada loves you. You'll grow to be a wonderful boy, with friends, family, and Moony and Padfoot too. No matter what Harry, find the strength in your heart to keep going, because although things will be tough, we will watch over you and cherish you and love you even when we're gone. May your heart grow strong."

The ancient magic settled on the young child as Lily felt their souls connect. She did not know how well her spell had worked but she remembered in her last moments the look on teenage Harry's face as he saw his parents again, and his wonderful friends who kept him going. She knew he would be loved.

A flash of green light came from downstairs and seconds later, the door to Harry's bedroom burst open.

"Oh James" she whispered. "I'll be there soon".
