Dead Rising: Fortune's End
I do not own Dead Rising
Chapter 14: Well…I wasn't expecting this…
"Come on, Chuck! Why are you hiding?"
"Well…I wasn't expecting to fight a helicopter!"
Chuck peeked out from the wall, gripping his magnum. The helicopter was still attempting to free itself from the crane, machine gunner looking around the area. Chuck moved out and behind a vent, getting closer to the crane.
"Come on, damn it!" TK snapped, attempted to push the helicopter to its limits, "Do you see Greene?"
"No, boss. I don't see him anywhere!"
Chuck moved a little closer and made a mad rush to the crane. The gun opened fire, as Chuck pulled the lever. The crane went into action and yanked the helicopter close to the building. TK tried to pull away, but to no avail.
Chuck pulled out his magnum and opened fire at TK's henchman, killing him. Now that machine gun wasn't a problem. The chopper pulled away, going off in full speed. The crane stopped it from getting far, however.
Chuck slammed a random button, causing the crane to swing around. It swung in a complete 360, slamming against another building. The chopper exploded in midair, causing TK to slam down on the rooftop.
Chuck looked at TK's body. Burning hundred dollar bills rained from the sky. Chuck grabbed one, Benjamin Franklin's dollar burning in his hand. Chuck shook his head, "Makes me sick…all of this…the zombie outbreak, the deaths…all for money!"
Rebecca walked out of the corner with her camera rolling, "Ha ha! That's it, Chuck! That was amazing! That makes GREAT footage for our documentary! That was a hell of a show!"
They both looked at his body, "Is he…alive?"
Chuck nodded, "Yeah…he sure is. He's not over until he's done paying for everything he's done. Help me take back his body to the safehouse…"
Chuck threw TK's body on the bed in the bunker's medical room. Sullivan entered, as Rebecca taped TK's unconscious body. She turned to him, "This…is gonna be big! This is award material!"
Sullivan looked at TK, "He's out cold?" He asked, "We oughtta make sure he stays that way."
Chuck placed his hand on Sullivan's chest, "Wait! We need to keep him alive!"
Sullivan cocked his head, "What? Why? Capital punishment was made for scum like this! The death of innocent people…dead because of this heartless bastard! Then he frames you and now we have to be stuck in this little hole for three days!"
Chuck nodded, "I feel the same, Sullivan. A lot of people out there would want him to pay for what he's done…but we just have to sit on it, until the rescue."
Sullivan's angry glare returned to normal, he handed Chuck some handcuffs, "Fine. We'll do it your way. I'll stand watch. He's not going anywhere."
Chuck handcuffed TK's left hand to the bed, making sure he couldn't escape. Chuck nodded, "Thanks, Sullivan. That means a lot."
Both Chuck and Rebecca left the room, Rebecca still ranting about the documentary and asked Chuck to start flexing his muscles for the cover, Chuck declined.
Sullivan threw a stick of gum in his mouth and sat on the chair next to the bed. He took out his book from his pocket and began reading where he left off about the Willamette Incident. He would occasionally stop to look at TK and shake his head, "Sick son of a bitch."
Chuck walked in the surveillance room. He looked at Stacey, before she gave him the biggest smile ever. "Rescue's coming tomorrow." She stated
A smile spread on Chuck's face, "You're-you're right…you're right!"
He looked at his sleeping daughter. Now…finally…she could be safe. "But…Katey wouldn't be able to make it until that time. She needs her Zombrex before then."
The smile then faded, damn it, she was right. He looked at his daughter, "Yeah…I'll have to go and get some."
Chuck and Stacey looked at the monitor. He had just given Katey her Zombrex, as she stood next to Chuck. All three Katey, Chuck, and Stacey looked at the screen, awaiting the rescue. Sullivan got to their side and looked at the screen along with them, "Is TK still out?" Chuck asked
"Yep, out cold. I wanted to see the rescue. I've been waiting for this day."
They could hear a pin drop as they stared at the screen…
Boykin and his squad moved into Fortune City. Mowing down zombies in their Humvees, "Alright, let's make it quick. Bring up the bridge!" He ordered
The bridge into Fortune City rose, allowing no one to enter or leave the city. The Humvees slowed down, as Boykin stepped out. His platoon moved into their positions, Boykin smiled. "Alright, ladies. Daddy gets the first kill."
He took a carbine from one of the troops, rose it up and opened fire, killing a zombie. "Alright, move out, ladies."
His platoon opened fire, killing all the zombies surrounding them. Boykin smiled, quick and efficient, like any platoon. More soldiers moved out, taking out all zombies.
Williams pursued after a zombie wandering away, "Hey! Come on, zombie!"
He opened fire, shooting him in the back of his head. Blood, brains, and skull popped out. He stepped on an underground manhole. He continued to open fire at all the zombies, taking them all out.
Hssssssssssss
A gas was emitting from the manhole. A green gas, a…
Williams coughed and gagged violently. "Oh shit!"
He placed his hand over his mouth and nose, although this still caused him to choke. He stepped off the manhole, as the gas began to spread. He waved his hand back and forth in front of his face…god no. "Hey, man. You alright?"
"Oh god. Fucking-" More coughing
A zombie slowly approached. He stopped on top of the manhole…
Twitching violently. Gurgling. Blood began pouring out. Mutation. It roared.
Chuck immediately covered Katey's eyes. What happened next was…it was a bloodbath. The zombies ferociously attacked the convoy, killing them all. Boykin escaped in his Humvee, racing towards the underground tunnels.
"What-what the hell was that?" Chuck asked
"It's impossible! Zombies can't take out the military!" Stacey said
"Regular zombies can't…but they can."
"Look! There's Rebecca!" Stacey observed
The camera showed Rebecca running from the horde of zombies. She ran right into the entrance of the underground tunnels, an entrance that was caused by the Humvee slamming through the gates. "What is she thinking?" Sullivan asked
Chuck turned and walked towards the door, "Damn it. I'm going after her!"
Katey grabbed her father's sleeve, "No, daddy! Did you see what they did?"
"THAT was our military rescue? How the hell are we supposed to get out of here, now?" Stacey asked
Chuck shook his head, "I guess…we're going to try and get out there. Find a way out ourselves!"
"Now everyone wait a second!" Sullivan urged, "There's another part in our standard procedure! From what it says in the law, in my understanding, if there's a problem in which we're not rescued by the military by the end of the third day, there'll be another attempt in twenty four hours. IF it looks like they're any survivors."
Stacey jumped up off her seat, "What do you mean in your 'understanding'. You knew plenty of standard operating before!"
"Woah! Two points there, missy! Point One: I'm the only reserved member here. And I'm doing my damned best. Point Two: Congress just happened to pass these new procedures recently; I barely got the memo a week ago."
"I don't care about congress! What if that second attempt fails? Everything else has gone wrong so far!"
Sullivan shook his head, "…"
"What is it?" Chuck asked
"…Firebombing…It's the only way to completely get rid of 'em…for good."
Stacey sat down, puzzled, "Firebombing?...like….at Las Vegas?"
Sullivan nodded. Chuck sat Katey down, "I'll be right back! I have to get Rebecca!"
"No daddy!" Katey pleaded
Chuck got on one knee. "Katey. A lot of scary things are going to happen in life. And I won't be able to be there twenty four seven. You're going to have to be a big girl. I'll come back…pinky promise."
Chuck extended his pinky finger, Katey did the same and they interlocked them. Chuck walked to the door, "Chuck. Be careful…if those…things can take out a military squad…"
Chuck nodded, "Godspeed." Sullivan added
Chuck walked out of the room…
…no way in hell was the military going to firebomb this place. He and his daughter just a part of the ashes. He would be blamed and go down in his history as a terrorist…just like those at the Willamette Incident…He wasn't going to let it happen, he was positive. Just one thing scared Chuck…
…he wasn't positive
