~BAKURA~

It had taken several minutes for all of that to occur in order for Ryou to have made his decision. Once he said those words, the other thoughts stilled and quieted further until they faded away from the room. The thought if Amane faded away as well, its hand on Ryou's shoulder the entire time.

It had taken Ryou several minutes to reply. But he had accepted.

Bakura smiled, trying to keep his lips from forming a triumphant smirk.

"But—" Ryou continued.

Bakura's smile faded slightly. What was he about to say?

It didn't matter.

Before he could get another sound out, a wind suddenly blew open the door to Ryou's soul room. The wind's source: Bakura's soul room, which the door to was opened and directly across from Ryou's on the other wall of their soul hallway.

A similar wind formed in Ryou's soul room and blew over to Bakura's soul room.

Ryou and Bakura suddenly teleported to the hallway, in the exact center of the hallway and equal distance from either door and either end of the hallway, which appeared to go on into endless darkness after a few meters.

Ryou's eyes widened in confusion as all of this happened. He looked around wildly. "Wh-what's going on?!" he asked, his voice filled with fear.

"Don't worry," Bakura said softly, while still making sure Ryou heard him over the sound of the wind. "This is supposed to happen. You're going to be fine."

"But what is happening?!" Ryou asked him.

"You'll see."

This was part of the process. Once his host agreed, there would be a quick exchange of memories. The winds were the currents that exchanged the memories. He and his host would each be shown one significant memory at random from the other's past.

Bakura had made sure to secure certain memories of his, so he could ensure that they wouldn't be picked. These memories were kelp secret either because they were personal or he didn't want to scare or alarm his host and lose their trust before he even gained it. These included anything from his past life in his own body (especially Kul Elna), any of his crimes, and any Shadow Games he has played.

He was glad that he had done this already with Kafia, because he hadn't had time to check on his defenses, and he had been with Kafia recently enough that his defenses would still be up.

Even though he knew that nothing of grave importance would be revealed to Ryou, Bakura still wanted to know what Ryou was about to be shown.

He reached out to the wind that was flowing into Ryou's soul room to see what it was carrying.

Just before Ryou's memory filled his vision and distracted his senses and mind, he was able to catch a glimpse of what memory Ryou was about to be shown. What he saw caused him to gasp in horror.

It was a memory that Bakura had never put defenses on, because that would involve him dealing with the memory in order to do so. Since he hadn't wanted to touch the memory, he hadn't put defenses on it. He wouldn't have been able to deal with it.

However, after Kafia, he would have been able to deal with the memory and properly keep it hidden. But since he needed a host before he could properly interact with his soul room, he needed to wait until Ryou had the Ring in order to protect that memory.

This is where the guilt came in. Because had he waited to meet with Ryou like he usually had, he would have thought to go to his soul room and finally protect this memory from being selected when the exchange occurred. But because of who Ryou was, he never would have managed to wait that long.

And perhaps it was because of who Ryou was that this particular unprotected memory was going to be shared with them.

Because the memory was of Bakura's last meeting with Enama.
