Erika faced the plains of Whiterun, in the dim light of the moon she could see some deer; her fists clenched and unclenched. Her weapons and armour she had left in her house. For now, she would not need them. She could kill these deer another way, and it had been so long since she had changed. She heard foot steps behind her and she jumped down before they could reach her. Erika, within seconds had changed and was now a large wolf. She ran though the plains for a while until she noticed a second wolf. Her sister had joined her, and now the two stalked a herd of deer. The archer had learnt that this was as good as a good mope to Erika; and would often come out with the nightingale, because they were sisters and friends, also to make sure the pup didn't get into much trouble.

That night, they had taken down an entire herd of deer. The ones that hadn't been eaten were now in the companions courtyard, and Erika had talked her good friend Ria into sitting with her as they skinned the deer, after they had Farkas would take it and cut the meat from the bones; some they'd keep and some of the meat would be sent to Riverwood and the best to Jarl. Ria and Erika sat and spoke about things they'd been up to, things they'd done and places they'd been. Ria told Erika about her family, about her brothers and sisters. The day passed quickly and again Erika sat looking out onto the plains, again she could see herds of deer and elk, but her eyes were trained on the bonfires.

Erika could remember the first time she stood, not the first time she had skin changed, but she stood near here. Looking at the plains, at the bonfires. She remembered she was nothing but a whelp, well that was all going to change. Erika didn't wait for the lecture. She vaulted down and ran across the plains, towards to fires. She took hold of her sky steel, ready to use.

Erika shifted in her sleep, she was cold and she could faintly hear someone talking but she moved closer to something warm, a soft fur tickling her nose. Erika fell back to sleep.

Tired, she stabbed the ground with her sword, and when she was happy it would take her weight, Erika slumped against it. She sighed and laughed to herself slightly. How had she managed this? Honestly how had she? Around her lay the bodies of a mammoth, a cow and two dead fell to the ground, groaning as her aching behind hit the dirt. She panted heavily, numerous times she was sure this would be the end. She'd die because she was stupid and stubburn and wanted to prove a point. The Gods must have better plans for her, she had no other idea how she had survived and as she laughed, falling back onto the blood soaked ground she didn't care how she looked as she heard people running to her.

To Erika, it hadn't felt like she had been sleeping long and when she did wake she knew she was in the temple. Danica must have seen to her healing; Erika didn't feel right, her body felt heavy and she was still tired. As her head fell to the side, she saw Skjor by her bed side, he was looking at her,

"You're still a whelp to me."

Erika could have sworn he'd been smiling.

Her eyes fluttered open and she saw in her hand was blue, possibly a tunic. As the sleepy haze shifted she realized she was curled up to Thorin's back. Her arm was leaning on him, as she had a fistful of his tunic in her hand, she gripped it tightly like a life line. She had been nuzzling into the soft fur of his coat, she moved slightly as she became aware of talking. Erika could faintly hear Bilbo and her heart sank as she listened.

"...never staying in one place. Not belonging anywhere!"

Beside her, Erika felt Thorin tense, she still had a hold on him. And she knew he was awake as well, listening to Bilbo. She wasn't sure whether he knew she was awake either, but at the moment she knew it wasn't important; Of course, Thorin did know she was awake, even if she hadn't tightened her hold on his tunic when she had heard the hobbit's hurtful words, she had felt her waken.

"..I'm sorry, I didn't.."

Oh Bilbo, Erika leant her forehead against Thorin. That was horrible, especially coming from Bilbo, she understood he missed home but there was no need for such hurtful words. Erika could feel the warm tears slip down her cheeks as she heard Bofur's pained words.

"No, you're right. We don't belong anywhere.."

Erika could hear the pain in the dwarfs voice, and she wasn't sure whether she was upset with him or angered at Bilbo's words. Her hand loosened and slipped to Thorin's chest, where it regained it position, a tight fist clenched round his tunic. Erika was surprised when she felt a large, hot hand close over hers. But she recognised the grip, Erika had held him like that not too long ago, like he was the only person here that would stop her from slipping away. And it may be a single private moment but Erika shifted closer to him. And Erika became confused, if not happy, in some twisted way, when she heard Bofur wish Bilbo a happy journey, the dwarf, despite all the mean things that had just been said, still hoped good fortune and luck for Bilbo.

"What's that?"

The silence seemed to last and Erika pushed herself up from her place behind Thorin. She saw his blue eyes look at her as she rose behind him, he watched her as she looked over to the dwarf and hobbit, a strange glow came from the sheath which held Bilbo's sword. And Gandalf's old, wise voice echoed in her mind. The blade is of elvish make which means it will glow blue when orc's or goblins are near. Erika's eyes widened as Bilbo pulled his sword out, and she felt Thorin shift beside her. The sand began to slide under them and as Thorin called for his company to awaken they began to fall into tunnels and down slides, bumping into another. After a short time the company all fell onto each other, and as Erika tried to pull herself up she heard Dwalin mutter, "Goblins." Goblins? Erika had heard stories of such creatures but she had never encountered anything called a goblin...until now.

The goblins swarmed, there were hundreds of them and they grabbed the company pulling them along. Erika didn't like the feeling of their hand and claws on her. It made her feel dirty and grimy. The talon like claws scraping against the nightingale armour and Erika was glad that they scaly hands weren't pressed to her skin. She could hear the hot blood running through her veins and Erika faintly wondered whether this was due to fear or adrenaline, she could hear the creatures screeching and making other foul noises and they looked upon the company. As she was pulled along, and into a somewhat brighter light and saw what was in between them, a massive cavern filled with possibly thousands of goblins. There were bangs and clatters and she heard a voice come from the ugly mound, Crack! Snap! The black crack! in front of them but Erika paid it no attention, Grib! Grab! Pinch, nab! And down to Goblin town, you go my lad! as she continued to look around the cavern. She was pushed into one of the company who she saw to Fili; the blonde dwarf looked behind him ready to hit whoever had pushed into him, believing it to be a goblin, and when he saw Erika looking very shocked at these creatures, down! Down! Down! In goblin town! He realised this may be the first time she had encountered Goblins. Down, down, down in goblin town! Fili took hold of Erika's arm and pulled her closer into the group so she wasn't on the outside, but now enclosed by a group of dwarves close to Kili and Ori.

Finally they stopped and the group looked upon the ugly, giant goblin in front of them. Erika, still closed in by Fili, Kili and Ori, looked upon the foul thing in front of her, she'd seen many things with her time travelling but nothing like this! This physically made her feel sick and she began to heave.

"There now lass," She heard Fili whisper. His hand on her back, rubbing slightly. She felt bad now, Fili should be worrying about what may happen to them, he should be keeping his wits about him but instead he was cooing over her as if she were a child with an upset stomach. She was vaguely aware of the dwarf in front of her as he turned round and looked at her. Whereas Erika was ill with fear, and possibly the smell, and looked a head with clouded eyes; Fili was alert, despite looking after his friend and saw his uncle turn to look behind him. He had seen Thorin's eyes soften as his gaze fell upon Erika. And in moment, Fili's gaze connected with his uncles, he nodded. He promised to do what he could to protect Erika. The giant goblin finished his song before falling back onto his throne, watching as the smaller goblins searched the dwarves pulling out every weapon they could find. Try as they could, Fili and Kili tried to push themselves closer to Erika so the goblins would not touch her again, as the two brothers had already seen the scared distress which washed over her face as the goblins hands would wander on the woman. Sadly, a few goblins had pushed their way between them and as they groped and searched Erika, it pained the brothers to hear the almost silent whimpers of their friend.

"Who would be so bold, as to come armed into my kingdom?" The large goblin asked, standing again and peering onto the company. "Spies? Thieves? Assassins?"

"Dwarves, your malevolence!"

"Dwarves?!"

"Found them on the front porch!"

"Don't just stand there! Search them!"

The goblins again began to search the dwarves and Erika, pushing their hands into hoods, bags and pockets. One of the goblins near Erika slid on hand onto her waist and Kili fought to get near her, seeing her tense at the creatures touch. It's dirty, scaly hand drifted up to the breast of her armour. Kili was tugged away from from Erika as they were searched, valuables thrown to the ground.

"What are you doing in these parts?"

"Don't worry lads," Oin said, pushing himself to the front of the group. "I'll handle this."

"What's that? No tricks! I want the truth! Warts and all..."

"You're going to have to speak up," Oin said cockily, holding up his hearing aid. "Your boys flattened my trumpet."

"I'll flatten more then your trumpet!" The goblin king shouted, standing and walking to them and smashing barrels on the way over. The goblin groping Erika smirked as it felt her flinch, her fear was so obvious to the creature.

"If you want more information, I'm the one you should speak to!" Bofur shouted, crossing in front of Oin. "We were on the road, well...it's not so much a road as a path. Actually, it's not even that come to think of it, it's more like a track. Anyway, we were on this road like a path like a track and then we weren't! Which is a problem because we were supposed to be in Dunland last tuesday..."

"Visiting distant relations!"

"Shut up!"

The company were quiet as the Goblin King looked upon them again, clearly not falling for Bofur's trick. His tiny eyes glanced over the company, trying to find the weak link.

"If they won't talk, we'll make them squak! Start with the young-..."

"Sire! They have a woman!"

Erika stopped breathing, for minutes she had believed that if she stopped moving that the goblin besides her would loose interest and leave her alone, but now he had alerted the attentions to the large and ugly Goblin king. Before any of the dwarves could do anything, Erika was being pulled to the front. She couldn't fight the instinct to step back, showing a single moment of weakness which reflected her fear to the goblin. Her eyes widened at the sight of the ugly creature, as it moved closer and every time it did, Erika took a step back. It grabbed Erika and pulled her closer, as she tried to pull back. The smell was disgusting and Erika tried hard as she could not to heave.

"What a pretty thing! There has not been a woman here in...a very long time! I could just have you now..."

"Wait!"

Thorin stepped out of the crowd.

"Well, well, well!" The goblin king realeased Erika, stumbled back. Thorin caught her, holding her arm; he made sure she was close with his tight grip, "Look who it is! Thorin Oakenshield! Son of Thrain! Son of Thror! King under the mountain! Oh! but I'm forgetting! You don't have a mountain and you're not a king, which makes you nobody."

"More of a king then you'll ever be!" Erika snapped back, holding on to Thorin.

"So the little bird has found her voice." The goblin taunted.

Erika smirked, now somewhat braver as she was by Thorin. If only the goblin knew, he taunted her voice yet she had killed with her voice. Thorin shared her smirk, yes, he knew of her shouts and how powerful her voice could be both in shout and song, yet that was not the reason he smirked. The reason Thorin smirked was because he had her back, perhaps she wasn't as she normally was, but now she was safe and back with him. Where she belongs.

"I know somebody that would pay a pretty price for your head. Just a head, nothing attached. Perhaps you know of whom I speak? An old enemy of yours...a pale orc astride a white warg."

"Azog the defiler was destroyed! He was slain in battle long ago!"

"So you think his defiling days are down, do you?" the goblin laughed, "I would not be your greatest problem, Oakensheild!I would be the least of your troubles if you wanted to keep the pretty little bird all to yourself! I'm sure the pale orc would have mounds of fun defiling your pretty little bird."

The giant goblin walked to a smaller one and began speaking to it, as Thorin pulled Erika closer to him, as he had been doing as the goblin spoke of what the pale orc and how Erika would be of interest to him. I'd sooner die then let either of those foul beasts lay a finger on her! Thorin thought. He had tried to keep a clear head after he had seen her earlier, but it had not just been his nephews who had caught glimpses of her paling face and heard her terrified whimpers. He had tried to clear his head of her fear, and think of the best for the company, but Thorin was coming to realise, now in this danger, why he thought of her so much and he wasn't about to let the stinking goblins take her and his chance to tell her from him.

There you are! I'm so sorry for the wait but I've had things on so it's taken a while! I haven't wrote as much as I have wanted to but now I know where I'm going with the story and what I want to happen.

Also I went to see Desolation of Smaug again :D And loved it all the same as the last time!

No flames when you review!

Peace
