Chapter 14
Ithilia unconsciously played with the hot water, lifting a handful before letting it drip back down between her fingers. "You've been doing that for quite a while. Share some thoughts with me?" Haldir murmured from the doorway, not really caring at how she looked like at the moment. Her shining silver hair was covering her bosom and the room was so steamy he really couldn't see anything.
"It's nothing." She sighed, glancing up at him. "My thoughts are hardly even going in a straight line... will you not join me? The water feels nice."
Haldir smirked, his silver eyes flashing darkly. "Now who is naughty? But no, I shall decline the offer. I relish in your Night-Blooming Cereus scent but I do not like it if it is on me."
Ithilia giggled and splashed him with water. "Get out then you brute. I am about to prepare to exit this tub, for I am starting to wrinkle up like an old woman." Grinning from ear to ear, the ellon obediently exited, closing the door behind him. Shaking her head playfully, she rose and dabbed the water away with a cloth. She slipped into a simple light blue dress and walked out of the bathing room to put on her circlet. Haldir was already ready, his clothes a much more darker color, contradicting her blue gown.
She smiled when she saw that her circlet was in his hands. He silently walked forward and gently placed the headpiece on her head before swiftly weaving her silky hair into it to keep it from falling. "Let us go and see the Lord and Lady." He offered his arm and the maiden took it gladly.
"Or my brother in law and sister." Ithilia smirked as they exited the talan and descended down the stairs winding around the ancient tree. There were no railings, for the elves had a great sense of balance. As they reached the bottom, Haldir shut his eyes in exasperation before letting out a gentle groan of annoyance. He started counting.
"One.. two... thr— oof!" He grunted as he was suddenly tackled. His eardrums started to bleed—not literally—from an elleth's screeches.
"HALLI-DEAR! Where in the name of Elbereth have you been? I missed you so much." Ithilia's entire body tensed as she stood as still as a statue. A vein on her forehead was slowly becoming more prominent, showing her irritation. Normally, the Lady of the Moon wouldn't be easily aggravated, but on this special occasion... oh.. she was furious.
"Good day, Lady Tiriel." Haldir said in a strained voice, as if he were choking on something.
The said elleth named Tiriel had gold hair with sky-blue eyes that were usually sparkling at Haldir. "Geez, I'm telling you to call me Tiriel! Not Lady like the Lady of Light and Lady of the Moon. I don't even see the resemblance in the two." She ranted, oblivious to the maiden standing behind her.
"I would mind your mouth if I were you, Lady Tiriel, daughter of the Lady Celebrim." Ithilia said in a clipped voice, her ghost-colored eyes were on fire as she met the elleth's blue eyes.
Tiriel stood up and straightened herself, looking down her nose at the silver-haired maiden. It was quite comical, seeing as Ithilia was almost a foot taller than her. It was not uncommon; the Noldor were tall elves, usually ranging from 6 feet to 6'5. In this case, Ithilia was 6'3, an inch taller than her sister and two inches shorter than Haldir.(It is said that the Noldo that came to Middle-Earth after the Kinslaying adopted the Sindarin language so I'm guessing that the Sindar elves are of Noldo blood)
"Ah, Lady Ithilia. I shall be taking Haldir on a romantic walk in the forest and he'll—"
"That will not be possible. The Lady and Lord of Caras Galadhon has summoned us in a very urgent meeting. I am not bothered if I am late, although..." Ithilia's moonlight-colored eyes danced in dark mirth. "they would need an excuse, in which if I mention that you had taken their Marchwarden against his will then surely they will be quite angry."
Tiriel growled and turned around, stalking away in a fit. Haldir let out a breath and picked himself up from the ground. "Thank you, meleth."
Ithilia smiled, "I'd do that again if it meant peace and quiet."
Galadriel smiled, her frame literally glowing as she invited the two elves in to her home. "Come in. Haldir, have a seat on the couches near the windows; Celeborn is waiting for you." Haldir bowed and turned to leave for the other room where she said Celeborn was. "As for you, my dear sister... we have much to talk about." Galadriel giggled like an elf-maiden in the first stages of love.
Ithilia smirked, following her sibling through another archway, directly across the door where her beloved disappeared behind. She was met with a breathtaking sight; it was a large room—probably a living area—with a couch in front of a fire-place, and several comfy looking chairs on the open balcony overlooking the entire city enshrouded in light. Walking through the beautifully-carved arch entwined with vinesand flowers, Galadriel sat down on one of the chairs, motioning for Ithilia to sit on the one beside her.
Right before the older elleth sat down, she heard voices drifting through the air. "What is that?" She asked before continuing to make herself comfortable.
The Lady of Light smirked as she set a blanket on top of herself to keep warm. "This is my spying place." She said mischievously When Ithilia raised a brow, Galadriel decided to elaborate. "Whenever Celeborn has visitors over, I come here and eavesdrop on them. If you listen closely, the words can be heard very clearly. The bedroom—where the ellyn are now—have curving walls which lets sound travel here."
Indeed, Ithilia could hear snippets of the conversation.
"—no trouble was met during my stay in Mirkwood."
"No interesting battle stories you wish to share? Any amusement you can bring to this old ellon?"
"My Lord, I hardly think you are old."
"Elaborate."
Galadriel snickered. Ithilia rolled her eyes but she smiled as well. "Well. You.. uh.."
"Mhm?"
"Uh... oh, look at the sky! Isn't it nice out?"
"Haldir, my Marchwarden.."
"Yes, M'Lord?"
"The trees are covering the sky. You cannot see anything except for my wife's bright white light orbs and the golden leaves."
"Ah.."
Galadriel smiled widely in open amusement. "I see what you mean." The silver-haired elleth smirked as she turned to her sister. "But enough of games, let us get on with our own conversation. I'm sure you have many stories to tell." The Lady of Light flushed pink and Ithilia laughed. "No, sister. Not of your personal life. What events have occurred while I was gone?"
"Many things."
Haldir sat directly across Lord Celeborn who was leisurely sipping at a cup of tea. "Carry on. Give me your report." The Lord said, looking out at the trees and below.
The Marchwarden sat straight and stiff, in instinct. "There were no exciting events. So no trouble was met during my stay in Mirkwood." Celeborn turned his silver-grey eyes to the other ellon with a tiny smirk on his lips.
"No interesting battle stories you wish to share? Any amusement you can bring to this old ellon?"
"My Lord, I hardly think you are old." Haldir murmured, shifting his feet, forcing himself to not look away from his lord's piercing gaze which softened considerably until it became a teasing look.
"Elaborate." He smirked, lifting his teacup and taking a sip from his tea before placing it back down on the plate resting on his right leg—seeing as it was linked or crossed.
Haldir swallowed thickly, knowing that Celeborn was playing with him. He tried to come up with an answer without offending him in any way. His palms started to sweat as he licked his lips, almost losing his composure before grasping it again. "Well." He started, "You.. uh.." before he started to stutter a bit.
"Mhm?" Another drink from his tea, and eyes still drilling into him.
"Uh..." Haldir's eyes averted to the leaves and spluttered out a pathetic excuse. "oh, look at the sky! Isn't it nice out?"
Lord Celeborn put his empty teacup down on the table beside him just to refill it from a pitcher. "Haldir, my Marchwarden.." He sighed as the tea started to pour.
"Yes, M'Lord?" The Marchwarden choked out, so stiff he was almost, almost, fighting for breath.
"The trees are covering the sky. You cannot see anything except for my wife's bright white light orbs and the golden leaves." Celeborn sighed as he put the pitcher back down, taking another sip from the steaming drink and sitting back with a smirk dancing on his lips.
"Ah.." Haldir's pointed ears flushed red as he looked down at his wringing hands. "I apologize for my stupidity, My Lord."
"Do not be. I am only teasing you." He replied nonchalantly.
You guys may have noticed that I update every Friday/Sunday. But this week, there might not be a chapter on one of those days because I'm on a temporary writers block. Who knows, I might just upload another chapter on Friday/Sunday. ;D
