Corey stood there absolutely speechless. He couldn't believe it. He looked down at the pretty little thing. She couldn't be much older than 2 years old. He had broken up with Laura two and a half years ago so it was definitely possible. He couldn't even begin to wrap his head around the fact that he obviously had a daughter. He was a father. Oh god. And he hated his daughter's mother. How could that possibly work?
That's when it hit him. What would Maja say when she learned about this? Everything had been going so smoothly between them. Maybe too smooth. He turned to look at Laura again who beamed up at her ex-boyfriend.
When he just looked at her clearly still in a state of shock she leaned up and quickly kissed him. Still not in his right mind, Corey did nothing. He neither reciprocated the kiss nor pushed Laura away. After she had broken her lips away from his Laura smiled up at him.
"I love you, Cor. I knew you'd come around once you see her." With that she quickly pulled a piece of paper out of her purse and wrote her number down.
"Here. I know this is a lot to take in. Call me when you're ready." With that she handed him the paper with her number, gave him another peck and left the University, leaving behind a visibly shaken Corey.
Neither one of them had noticed a heartbroken Maja standing a little distance away, watching the scene unfold.
Half an hour earlier….
On her way home with Paige Maja spontaneously decided she wanted to surprise Corey, so the two women made their way over to the University. When Maja came in she was immediately greeted by half the talent working at the moment, everyone asking her, if she was ok. When she was finally able to escape her friends she went looking for her boyfriend with Paige in tow who made it clear that Maja wasn't allowed to walk around alone until Paige and Corey thought otherwise. Maja had rolled her eyes but appreciated the gesture.
They were just heading down the corridor, when Maja stopped abruptly and dashed two steps back so that she was only peaking around the corner. Paige was confused but as she followed Maja's line of vision she understood why Maja didn't walk on.
"I want you back. Corey, I was young and so stupid. I've missed you ever since we broke up. No one will ever be as good for me as you. Nobody knows me so well. Please, Cor, give us another chance."
Maja looked up again just in time to see the woman who had just proclaimed her undying love for Corey lean into him after he had said something to her that Maja couldn't hear.
"But babe, don't you remember how good we were together? How good I made you feel? I love you, Cor."
By now Maja wanted to throw up. Behind her Paige whispered to her, saying that this woman was the one who broke Corey's heart so badly all those years ago. The one he claimed to hate. The one he never wanted to see again. Yet, here she was, acting as if they were still lovers. The worst part to Maja was that Corey didn't do a damn thing about it. He didn't look disgusted or push her away. He just stood there and did nothing. She was ready to leave and wallow in self-pity when she heard Laura call out to a guy. Her curiosity got the better of her and she was even more shocked to see that woman standing there with a baby.
"Corey, meet your daughter Amelia."
In that moment Maja was sure, that she had lost Corey. They would never be able to make this work. The way he reacted to that Laura chick made clear to her that she stood no chance. Corey had loved her first and maybe she just wasn't enough. She had already known that. Some of her exes made that very clear. But then she had met Corey and he had made her feel alive and free and confident. She had never been happier in her entire life. He had built her back up when she had already lost hope. And what for? Only to break her back down. And to put the crown to all of that Laura leaned up and bluntly kissed Corey who again did nothing in return.
"I love you, Cor. I knew you'd come around once you see her. Here. I know this is a lot to take in. Call me when you're ready."
Maja simply turned around and went for the exit, tears streaming down her face.
A hard slap to the face brought Corey back to reality. Shocked he looked down to see a very angry Paige glaring at him.
"What the fuck, Paige?"
"What the fuck? Are you serious? You just got your face licked by some chick from your past while your current girlfriend, who by the way is my best friend, stands there and sees it all? And you do nothing? You're such an asshole, Graves!"
"I…You…WHAT?" Only then did Corey's mind process everything that had happened the last few minutes, but the first thing that struck him was that Maja had seen him being kissed from his ex and doing nothing in his shocked state. He turned to Paige.
"Where is she? Please, I need to explain this to her."
"Oh yes you do. And not only to her. But that can wait. She just stormed out."
Not waiting another second, Corey stormed out into the parking lot looking for Maja frantically. He didn't see her, he heard her sobbing though. When he looked around he saw her sitting behind Paige's car on the concrete, head in her hands, huge sunglasses in her hair. Corey slowly came closer to her because he didn't want to startle her.
"Princess? Please, let me explain." Corey pleaded desperately.
"Go away." Was Maja's weak response. She hadn't even looked up.
"Please. It wasn't what it probably looked like." He tried again.
"Oh, what was it then! Please enlighten me your cheating majesty!" She half-yelled at him. Yelling was good he decided. It meant that she was at least into this. He knew how to handle yelling women since he'd had his fair share of girl-drama.
"Listen. It's a lot to explain. Why don't we go back in where it's a little more comfortable?"
"Oh no, we won't. Let everyone hear that colorful explanation of yours!"
"Ok. So, Punk and I kept a secret from you." Corey started carefully. She would need to know everything.
"Don't drag him into it. He's got nothing to do with your weak will." Maja looked up at him angrily. Even with tears streaming down her face and that huge purple shiner she was still the most beautiful woman to him. He longed to touch her, comfort her, but he knew that would be the wrong way to go about it. He sat down next to her instead.
"He is involved anyway." Corey said dismissively before continuing. "We didn't tell you the whole truth yesterday. You needed your rest and we wanted to spare you the ugly details. But now I guess it's necessary anyway. After you and I left for the hospital, Punk went searching for Bray Wyatt to confront him about your attack. Punk said that Wyatt has some sort of weird crush on you, in his own way." Maja clearly frowned at that, but said nothing so Corey went on.
"Somehow Laura got that bit of information and the two of them made some crazy plan to break us up. Rowan and Harper were meant to kidnap you and Bray wanted to play your knight in shining armor. He thought you'd blow me off to be with him after that. Laura obviously wanted to come in then and comfort me. As you know, it didn't happen that way. When I came here today I ran into Bray who was on the phone with Laura. I yelled at him and he gave me the phone. I told Laura that I wanted nothing to do with her and that I'm happy with my girlfriend, whom I love very much. Anyway, she came here and tried to seduce me. I thought if I'd just ignore her she'd leave again. And then she turned up with my baby. I guess that's what you saw. I didn't do anything, princess. I swear. I only love you. I would never risk losing you."
"You don't even know if it's your baby!" She shot him a dirty look. "Anyway. That's a lot to take in. I understand that you were shocked but that's no reason to stop thinking. You have no idea how much it hurt to see you standing there simply allowing her to kiss you. I don't know if I can even still trust you. Even if I believed you we would never have a chance. She as your "supposed" daughter's mother would always try to tear us apart."
Corey's heart stopped right then. He already knew the next words she would say. He didn't want to hear them. Couldn't hear them because they would break him.
"I need to think about all this. I can't be with you while all of this is so unclear and not with that image of her kissing you constantly popping up in my head. I love you, but I can't be with you anymore." With that she kissed him one last time with all she had before getting up, ready to leave. Corey desperately grabbed her arm and pulled her back. He gave her a kiss goodbye of his own that made her knees weak and then sent her on her way with a promise.
"I'm gonna make it work. I'm not gonna loose you. Not ever."
What Corey didn't know was that Laura had stood just a few cars down and heard the whole conversation between the former couple. With a cruel smile on her face she threw her cigarette down on the concrete and turned to the baby crying in the buggy.
"Oh shut up you annoying, stinking creature. I can't wait to get rid of you. You're driving me insane!"
