i think i'll just post these all in the same day, just to get it over with... sound good?
"Come on, follow me." The girl said, pulling on Maggie's hand. Both were limping heavily. The walls twisted and turned. Maggie let go to take the lead taking the next right. "Not that way!" she heard the girl call out, but she kept going. Rounding the corner, she ran smack-dab into another wall. Backing up, she saw the words DEAD END written in blood. With a whimper, she ran back the way she came. "Will you follow me now?" Maggie nodded meekly. The girl's expression softened. "Hey, it'll be alright. You'll see your baby again." They took off down a different hallway, and this time, Maggie let the girl lead.
"How do you know this place so well?" Maggie gasped as they continued on with their fast pace. Suspicion colored her tone.
The girl ignored her and pushed open a set of doors hidden in shadow. Maggie wouldn't even have noticed it if she was by herself.
They finally managed to reach the stairs. Maggie collapsed head in hands; her entire body was shaking for exhaustion. "You didn't answer my question." She wheezed, eyes narrowed at the doubled over girl in front of her.
"Because…" the girl drew herself up to her full height—which wasn't much. "I've been stuck here for over a while. Now, shut up and come here." The girl yanked off her jacket again, wincing, and began to tie it around Maggie's face. Instinctively, Maggie began to trash and fight back. "Hold still!" The girl gripped Maggie's shoulders, forcing her to look her in the eye. "Have I done anything so far to make you think that I wasn't trustworthy?" Blazing blue-gray met startled brown. Maggie shook her head slightly. "Good. So stop moving and just trust me. Please. " Maggie stopped moving. With deft movements, the girl had given Maggie a strange-looking face mask that made her look like a bandit from an old western film. "You'll thank me in a sec." The girl muttered, pulling her tattered shirt over her own nose.
Gas began to seep through the ventilators. "It's not fair, you son of a bitch!" Maggie gagged through the girl's jacket. Following her blonde guide, she crawled up the stairs. The door on the next floor squeaked open; she crawled through it weakly, but was dragged to her feet with a quick "Keep moving!" As they ran around a corner, the words SLAUGHTERHOUSE caught in the light, with an arrow pointing in the direction they had just ran.
ta-da! almost done (i say that every chapter, don't i?)
