Hey guys! Report cards came in, and I have a college or two to visit, so things might get a little hectic; but hey, here's a brand-new chapter for you to enjoy! Please review and tell me what you think!
...
"Okie dokey, next Core Relay is... where?" Delsin looked at me. I raised my hands.
"Hey, don't look at me! You should've asked Reggie before running!"
Delsin's phone rang.
"Hey, remember me?" Reggie's voice asked. "The guy who knows where the next Core Relay is?"
"Yeah, gonna have to put you on hold!" Delsin quickly replied before canceling the call, then selecting another number and hitting 'Call.'
"Eugene, it's Delsin and Marshall. Listen, you're, uh, flying friends have probably done some aerial recon around here, right?"
"Yeah..." Eugene sounded slightly confused.
"Good, then we need you to help us find something. You know those big, glowing boxes the DUP's put up around town?"
"Sure, hold on... Hey, there's one not far from you."
"Thanks. Oh hey, I've seen a couple of those suspected Conduits still getting harassed on the streets. Whaddya say, I've got this new sword, we could help them out?"
"How cool is that sword, right?" Eugene asked excitedly.
"I know, right? So, you interested?"
It was here I realized that Delsin was trying to goad Eugene out of the basement and into the real world.
"No, that's okay. I've got Level 11 Angels waiting for me in the Valley of Death."
"Oh. Then by all means, you must go to them." Delsin said in a serious tone I couldn't help but chuckle at.
We arrived at the next Core Relay a few seconds later; right beside it, a suspect, still wearing his DUP prisoner vest, was getting the crap kicked out of him by two men. The moment they saw and recognized us, they turned and fled, screaming 'don't hurt us!' I huffed in annoyance as I watched them go; Delsin, meanwhile, used his Video powers to heal any wounds the man had, the vest breaking off from the energy being poured through it.
After the man thanked us then ran to God-knows-where, we turned to the Core Relay. I fired a single Brick Shot at it before the whole top broke open, allowing Delsin to get in. As he absorbed the Relay's energy, I glanced around; something was setting off inner alarms, and I wanted to know what. As Delsin got back up, I received my answer - in the form of laser sights from the snipers on the rooftops above us.
"Well, darn." Delsin immediately ran toward a wall, then activated his new power, which caused him to sprout a pair of Video-wings before he shot up the wall as if he was fired out of a cannon. As he clamored up, avoiding sniper rounds as he did, I opted to take the elevator and simply created a Brick Slab. Anytime one of them shot at me, they would only hit the shield I'd created in front of me.
Seriously, how badly do these idiots train their snipers? I wondered before dismounting and rushing them as they frantically fired.
...
Once we were done, Delsin pulled out his phone again.
"Hey Eugene, I know you'd rather be alone with your demons, but we just got ambushed by DUP snipers. You're gona have to pitch in here, bud."
"Yeah, that's okay, I'm good. But I'll send some Angels."
...
We arrived at the next Core Relay to find several Angels and Demons flying in circles around it like vultures over a carcass. I popped it open with a Brick Shot before Delsin absorbed its power. A few seconds later, the Video-creatures began flying off.
"Aw, where you going, this is the fun part!" Delsin called out. I tapped his shoulder, then pointed toward a DUP chopper heading our way.
Delsin grinned, then fired a green dot, which was quickly followed by several Video-swords streaking through the air and impacting its side, sending it into spirals as the engines lost power. While he did this, I heard a noise; turning, I met a rocket head-on, sending my flying backwards and off the roof.
What is it with me and falling today? I thought as, with a shout of both rage and pain, I flew up with a Brick Slab, jumped off, and launched it toward the other chopper we'd both missed. The mass of brick instantly blew the helicopter apart, bits and pieces raining down on the street below.
As we progressed to the next Relay, Delsin called up our fellow Conduit.
"Hey Eugene, not to sound ungrateful, but do you think maybe you could send some less cowardly Demons?"
"I thought you just wanted them to warn you!"
"Dude, you can't just sit back and let you creations do all the work - you've got to get out into the real world sometime!" I argued, throwing my hands into the air as I spoke into the phone.
"Okay, next time... I promise. Anyway I found another one."
"Alright, not too far away. Thanks." I said before Delsin cut the call.
We had just started off when Eugene called us back.
"Oh hey, there's a bunch of DUPs headed for the same place you guys are. But don't worry, you'll have backup when you get there."
"Alright, thanks for the heads-up. Talk to you when we're done."
...
We found the next Core Relay, which was underneath an overhang in a parking lot. Delsin opened it this time by bashing it with his sword. The resulting explosion knocked him back a little, but he shook it off and proceeded to sap the Relay's energy. While he did that, I glanced around to see a small squad of DUPs sneaking up on us. As Delsin got back to his feet after the power-drain, I turned and began firing, trying to protect the protagonist.
Once Delsin realized what I was shooting at, he unleashed a literal stream of blue pixels. After seeing how quickly he put those soldiers down, I decided I never wanted to be on the receiving end of that attack.
As I took down the last soldier, Delsin threw his arms into the air.
"Wahoo! Go Team Freak!" I rolled my eyes as Eugene's voice came from Delsin's pocket.
"Okay, sure, yahoo and all, but I've got bad news - I've located another Core Relay."
"And this is bad, how?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"There's a bunch of DUP in that area. But, maybe you've already got enough powers. Look, why take the risk when we don't even know what you'll get?"
"Hey hey hey, don't 'Eugene' out on us, okay?" Delsin chastised. "If we set our minds to it, there's nothing a couple of young stud Conduits and a buttload of Angels and Demons can't accomplish."
"Well, I don't know about 'stud'..." Eugene stuttered, embarrassed.
"We'll... call you when we get there."
...
"Okay Eugene, here's the plan. Marshall will distract them while I go around the side. You, meanwhile, will-"
"YAHOO!" Eugene's happy yell erupted from the phone.
"Alright, Plan B it is," I muttered before jumping from our vantage point and charging into the fray, brick swirling around my arms as I absorbed it from a nearby building. The DUP split their focus between me and the Angels and Demons flying around, completely ignoring the young man with the grey jacket and red hoodie - until a Video-sword formed in said man's hands, which he used to smash open the Core Relay and absorb its power.
As he got back to his feet, Eugene spoke up again. "Uh, Delsin? Look, whatever you got better be worth it, because you're gonna need it!"
Seeing the look on Delsin's face, I knew he was more than prepared for the trio of APCs that had just shown up. I stepped back as Delsin thrust his palms forward. Within seconds, a multitude of Angels, which materialized behind him, flew past him and up into the air.
"Here comes Heaven, Hell, and Delsin!" He roared as he moved his arms down. Within moments, every Angel he'd just spawned kamikazed into and around the APCs, completely destroying them while Subduing those inside.
"Aw, Eugene! You've been holding out on me!"
"Uh, you know, just something to think about... Heaven, Hell, Delsin, and Eugene..."
"What am I, chopped liver?" I muttered grumpily, crossing my arms.
