AN: So, there's been very little actual Monster Hunting going on lately, but that'll change soon. Here's where things start getting interesting.

Chapter Fourteen: Time's Changing

I don't own TD.

"So, she's working as your dad's personal assistant now?" Heather asked Duncan.

"Yeah, and it's really pissing me off. I barely get anytime with her." The wolf man said upset.

The two were currently at McLean's mansion, cleaning out the unneeded or unwanted items of the former governor. They had formed a bond of friendship, after the incident with Gatling. Heather was originally going to have Justin, and Lightning help her, but they had other plans, and she couldn't stand the incompetence of the other members of Arch Queen, so she told them all to never come back, making her guild dwindle from fifty four to three. Her next best option, was calling Duncan, and Courtney, but Courtney's new job, as assistant to Governor Wrett, had her working easy yet long hours, so Duncan went alone, not bothering to tell Courtney.

"I still can't believe your dad won so easily." Heather said.

"Sera, Crowe, and Louis backing him definitely shot him up the polls. I still can't believe, you let all those guys go."

"Please, if you would've seen their skills without someone leading them, you probably would've done the same."

"True, but they had to be strong, at least. What are you gonna do about the guild limit?"

"Don't worry, I've got some new recruits coming soon."

"You posted a sign at the hunter's council?"

"How did you know?" She asked sarcastically.

A knock could be heard at the font door, and then it opened.

"Who's that?" Duncan asked.

"I don't know, but I'm gonna find out." Heather said, as she grabbed her weapon, and walked to the front of the mansion, leaving Duncan behind.

"Mom!?" She shouted, and Duncan ran all the way to her.

"Oh shit." He said, under his breath. "Hi, Blaineley."

"Hello there, Duncan." Blaineley said.

"What are you doing here, mom?" Heather asked, as Blaineley walked in.

"I came rushing home, after hearing of your father's demise!" She shouted, in dramatic fashion.

"Mom, he isn't dead."

"He's not!?"

"No, and that happened more than four months ago."Heather said.

"Whatever, I felt like kicking him to the curb anyway." Blaineley said.

"Then you should have been here to do it!" Heather shouted angrily.

"Calm down, Heather." Duncan said, as he put his hand on her shoulder. "Why are you here?" Duncan asked Blaineley.

"I can't come to my own home once in a while?"

"No, this hasn't been your home for years." Heather said, as she swiped Duncan's hand away, and walked towards the kitchen. "Duncan, get over here!"

Duncan rolled his eyes. "You're as bad as Courtney." He said, and a pan went flying at him, but he was able to duck. "What the hell!?"

"Lover's quarrel?" Blaineley asked.

"What are you talking about?"

"It seems there may be some trouble in paradise for you two."

"Uhh okay, she, and I are not dating, or anything. What the hell do you even want? Shouldn't you be off acting in some corny play?"

"How rude, I want you out of my house, now!" Blaineley shouted.

"It's not your house!" Heather shouted, as she walked back. "Because you weren't even in the country, the Governor turned the estate over to me, and thus made me owner of this home, and everything in it."

Blaineley is what you would call an actress in Clandia, performing in plays, and skits all across the world for nobility, and commoners alike. She has rarely been home in the last ten years, constantly traveling, and enjoying her 'keeping the peace' missions as well. Heather harbors some resentment towards her mother for essentially dumping her on Chris for half her life.

"Get out of my house, Mildred." Heather said, using her mother's real name.

"Ughh, you know I hate that name."

"Yeah, it's a pretty awkward name, Mildred." Duncan said, laughing.

"I said get out!" Heather shouted.

"So, you're going to kick your own mother out on the street, is that it?"

"Yes, but you aren't my mother! You never were! All you've ever done for me is... You've never done anything for me!"

"Heather... I... I have no where else to go."

Heather eyed her mother inquisitively. "What are you talking about? You have all your male whores, why don't you go stay with them?"

"I was kicked out of the performance club. They said I was too old to play the lead anymore..." Blaineley said, as she fell to her knees, and began sobbing.

Duncan raises his eyebrow, noting the sincere feeling in the air.

"Don't fall for it, she's an actress, this is what she does for a living."

"I'm telling the truth." Blaineley said, through her tears. "Please, I'm begging you, let me stay here."

"I don't know, Heather, she seems really sincere." Duncan whispered.

Heather stared at her mother. "Fine, but you will be finding a job."

"Yes! Thank you! I will find one as soon as possible." Blaineley said, as she got up, and hugged her daughter, much to Heather's chagrin.

Courtney walked out of Governor Wrett's new office. She was exhausted, and frustrated, but at the same time very satisfied with her new job. Sure, she would miss monster hunting on a regular basis, but until Morris is out of office, she will put that part of her life on hold.

"Hey, Courtney." She heard a voice call out to her on the walk to her guild hall.

She turned, and spotted Mike. "Mike? What are you doing here?"

"I came to get some stuff, because Zoey's coming over later."

"Oh alright, have fun."

"Uhh, something's bothering me."

"What?"

"I saw Duncan, going to McLean Manor."

"McLean Manor? Why would he go there?"

"I think I saw Heather letting him in, and they were laughing, and stuff."

"What?"

Courtney quickly turned around, and ran to the mansion. Mike however grinned deviously, and waved his hand, sending a shadow that fused into Courtney's own.

Courtney arrived at McLean Manor, and knocked on the door ferociously.

"Duncan, can you get the door?" She heard Heather call.

"Yeah, sure." She heard Duncan say back.

"He's obviously cheating on you. He is not right for you. You can never tame him. You must make him pay." She could hear a voice, within her own head.

Duncan opened the door. "Hey, ba-" Duncan tried to say, but Courtney interrupted him, with a swift punch. "What the hell was that for!?"

"You cheating bastard." She said solemnly.

"What?"

"You're cheating on me!"

"I am not!" Duncan shouted back.

"What's going on out here?" Heather said, as she walked into the main room.

"She's just as guilty as he is." The voice said again.

"You bitch! I knew I couldn't trust you!" Courtney shouted, as she charged at Heather, but Duncan grabbed her by the waist, and carried her outside.

Heather! Shut the door!" Duncan shouted, and Heather did as he commanded. He then threw Courtney on her feet, and grabbed her by the shoulders. "Courtney! What the fuck is your problem!?"

"What the fuck were you doing alone with her!?"

"Courtney, I would never cheat on you. We're not even alone." Duncan said, as he started calming down.

"Liar!" She slapped him.

"Court, please, I would never do that."

"You're still lying!" She slapped him again.

Duncan got down on his knees, and started begging. "Princess, you know I wouldn't do that to you."

"He's lying. He is simply trying to absolve himself of any wrong doing." The voice spoke again.

Courtney looked at Duncan, kneeling in front of her. She gritted her teeth, then threw her knee in his face, with a hard crack.

Duncan all at once lost his focus, and transformed into a werewolf. He grabbed Courtney by the arm, and growled at her. Courtney became frightened, and winced at Duncan's form. The wolf man softened, and let go of her arm. Courtney stared at him for a moment.

"He nearly killed you. He cannot be trusted. Retreat for now." The voice said again.

Courtney quickly got up, and ran away from him, leaving Duncan entirely confused, and upset at himself for scaring her, even if she seemed to have completely lost it.

Dawn, and Scott had been spending the past few months together in perpetual bliss. Scott had opened up to Dawn about nearly everything, even his trouble with Fang. Dawn was accepting of all of Scott's flaws, and issues. However, she did not seem intent on telling Scott about her past. The duo were at their guild hall, when Scott decided to start up a conversation he had been wanting to have for a while.

"Hey, Dawn?"

"Yes?"

"I feel like I've told you a lot about my past, and I was wondering if..." He trailed off. After all, he is still getting used to proper conversation with another.

"What is it, Scott?"

"I wanna know where you're from, who you are, and anything else about you."

Dawn looked at Scott with a sad smile, but then frowned.

"What's wrong?" Scott asked.

"I cannot tell you about my past."

Scott looked at her strangely. "Why?"

"It is very complicated, so let us please leave it at that." Dawn said, as she walked into the stairway, towards the rooms

"Dawn?" He said, as he walked after her.

He walked to her open room door, but did not see her within, so then he walked to his own room. He opened the door to see Dawn wearing his shirt, and staring at herself in the mirror.

She saw him through the mirror, and suddenly began crying

"Dawn? What happened? Why are you crying?" Scott asked worriedly.

She turned around, and walked over to him, then put her arms around his neck. "I want to be human." She said still crying.

"What?"

"I love you, Scott." She said, and Scott froze. He started thinking about they've been through, and realized he felt the same way.

"I... I-I love you too, Dawn."

She smiled at him, tears still running down her eyes. She kissed him, then lead him to his own bed.

"Uhh, Dawn?"

"Yes?"

"What are you doing?"

"I will be staying with you tonight."

"Then why is the atmosphere different? You've spent the night with me before."

"No, I will be staying with you… Tonight…"

"Oh… Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am ready."
