At the club Piney sat on a stool at the bar watching Opie and Jasmine's kids playing a video game on the large flat screen television. Piney and Mary were on babysitting duty while Opie and Jasmine took Henry to get his driver's license. Filthy Phil was tasked with driving the flatbed truck out to Reno and bringing back Henry's car. It was a three-hour trip both ways but Opie hoped it would prove to be a distraction for the disgruntled teenager. The encounter with Jacob Hale happened three days ago but it was still front and center in everyone's mind. Each night Lily woke the entire house with a shrill cry after waking up with a new nightmare. He could only imagine what the memories from that night were doing to the older children who were more in control of themselves.

Piney knew that his son and grandson were struggling with their emotions and he felt helpless. Opie wanted to kill Hale but he realized that Jasmine was right about bringing unwanted attention to himself and the club. He had his hands full with the Russians trying to run roughshod over them in the gun business. They already tried to kill Jax in prison. If Opie made too many waves, they could turn their attention toward him or his family. At the same time, he couldn't let the Russians bleed them dry of the profits they rightfully deserved and so desperately needed. Now Clay had him working another angle with the Mayans. Opie was keeping mum on the details until things were sorted but Piney had a bad feeling about all of it.

On the other hand, he watched his grandson turn more angry and sullen as the days drew on. He spent the majority of his time at the club using their boxing ring or heavy bag to work out his frustration. He refused to talk to anyone about his feelings and was content to pretend as if the night never happened.

Piney was deathly close to killing Jacob Hale himself to rid their family of this agita. Opie finding out he had another son should be a happy occasion. He should be getting to know the boy, not worrying about Jacob Hale.

He looked up hearing the door to the club open and he smiled seeing Wayne Unser walk into the room. The former chief of police was a last ditch effort. If he couldn't find something juicy to blackmail Jacob Hale then he would just take the bastard out. He was an old man and there wasn't much of his life left to live. If anyone was going to go to prison for killing the weasel he would rather it was him.

Unser walked over to the bar and smiled. "Hi. How are you doing, Piney?"

He looked around and chuckled seeing he kids playing the video game. When images of David Hale's death flashed through his brain it was this image of SAMCRO he tried to remember. They were outlaws but they were family men too. They cared about their club as much as they cared about their community. David's death was an aberration.

"I'm doing good. How's the cancer?" asked Piney.

He shrugged and replied, "I'm still living so that's something. What's going on? You haven't called me over here for awhile. I'm assuming this ain't a neighborly call."

Piney shook his head and said, "I need a favor. This isn't a favor for the club. This is a favor for me and I'm willing to pay for it. We should talk about this somewhere more private. Ellie keep an eye on the little ones. Your grandma is in the kitchen cooking lunch."

Ellie looked up from her book and said, "Okay, Grandpa." She glanced at the kids and then went back to reading her book.

Unser wasn't surprised that something was required of him. However, he was surprised that it was a personal favor for Piney. He had known the man for years and couldn't remember a time in the past that he'd asked him for anything.

Piney stood up and walked into the chapel. He took a seat at the redwood table and waited on Unser to close the door once he was in the room.

Unser asked, "What do you need, Piney?"

He said, "Sit down."

Unser sat down across from Piney and waited expectantly for the old man to begin talking.

"Jacob Hale showed up at my boy's house a few nights ago while Opie was out of town. He was drunk and he made a nuisance of himself. He put his hands on Jasmine Bennett. She's been staying with Opie while she waits on the courts to finish with David's Will. She still has his fingerprints on her neck."

His eyes widened in shock. It was hard to believe that Jacob would do such a thing. Unser was never a fan of the elder Hale son. He couldn't think of many people that did like the man. Most people just tolerated the fact that he was a native son woven into the fabric of their little town.

"I've known Jacob his whole life. He's a bastard and he's a thief but I've never known him to be violent with anyone. He ain't ever been much of a fighter," Unser said.

"It isn't much of a fight when you manhandle a woman in front of a group of children. My grandson had to get after him with a baseball bat. That ain't gonna happen again so I need him to go away. Now that can happen one of two ways."

Piney took a cell phone out of his pocket and searched it for a picture. It took a moment because he was no good with technology but he finally pulled up the picture and slid it to Unser.

Wayne looked at the picture of Jasmine's face. He could easily see her bruised cheek and split lip. He zoomed in closer and saw dark finger shaped bruises on her neck. He was definitely shocked. He didn't think Opie or Piney would go to the trouble of faking something like this. The look on Piney's face told him everything he needed to know. The old man would have no problem killing Hale if that was the only option.

Unser asked, "What favor do you need?"

"I know you know a lot of secrets about the Hale family. I want something I can leverage against him to make him give my family a wide berth or I guarantee you won't like option two."

Wayne nodded. "I'll dig into and see what I can get my hands on. How soon do you need it?"

"Yesterday."

"I guess I better get to work then."

Later that night Jasmine stood in the kitchen cooking dinner and listening to the Gutter Twins. There was a glass of wine on the counter next to the stove. She was feeling a little better than she did a couple days ago. Seeing Henry's face light up when he saw his car gave her hope that he would be okay. She knew the car was only a band-aid but at this point, she would take any positive sign.

Opie walked into the kitchen and said, "Dinner smells good. What are you cooking?"

"I'm making roasted pork, black beans and rice, mango bread, and tostones. Actually, I need some baking soda for the mango bread. Will you go to the store and get that and some vanilla extract? Oh, and I need some ice cream and some diapers for Danny. Actually, now that I think of it I have a list of stuff that I need."

He said, "Nope. The kid has his car now. He can haul his ass to the store to pick it up. It is nice having a kid old enough to drive. There are some perks to this parenting thing."

Jasmine laughed and said, "Smart. Henry!"

Opie laughed harder. "You are a mother."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

He picked up her glass of wine and drank a little. "You're classing up the place with your fancy wine."

She kissed him and took her glass back. "And you are avoiding answering my question because you know I have a knife."

He chuckled, put his hands on her hips, and pulled her closer. "You yelling for Henry reminded me of Mary yelling for me when I was a kid. Something about being a mother changes the way your voice sounds…I swear. No matter where you are when your mother starts yelling…you hear her."

Henry walked into the kitchen and cleared his throat. "Yeah?"

Opie moved back and leaned against the counter not wanting to make Henry uncomfortable. They were all still trying to figure out the dynamics of their new relationships. He said, "Your mother needs you to go to the store to pick up some things."

Jasmine picked her phone up from the counter and said, "I'll text you the list."

Opie took his wallet from his pocket and handed Henry his credit card. "Do you need directions to get to the store?"

"No, I've passed it enough times that I know how to get there. What is on this list?"

Opie laughed and picked up Jasmine's glass drinking more of the wine. "I don't know. Ask your mother. She's the one that is making the list. She kept coming up with things when she was talking about it before."

Henry rolled his eyes in exasperation. This was Jasmine's signature move. She would send him to the store for a 'few' things and by the time she finished making the list he would come home with a trunk full of bags.

Jasmine said, "Hey! I do the cooking. The least you can do is pick up the groceries."

"Well, she has us there."

Henry shook his head. "I'm going to put on my shoes and then leave out."

Opie chuckled as he watched his son walk out of the kitchen. "He seems better."

Jasmine said, "Yeah, he does. You were right about his license and the car."

"Well, I learned over the years that freedom can be freeing. Being able to get in his car and go for a ride might be the best thing for him. Being cooped up here where he witnessed the incident can't be good."

She hit send and placed the phone on the counter. "I know. I just miss the days when he was a little boy. Back then, I could sweep him up into my arms and make everything okay with a cuddle or a cookie. Now the real world is rearing its ugly head and I can't protect him from it."

"All kids have to learn eventually that the world isn't always a nice place. It isn't a good feeling because we want to protect our kids but it is reality. I've always believed it is better for them to live with the reality than be naïve in a world that could hurt them."

Ellie bounced into the kitchen. "Can I go to the store with Henry? I need to get some stuff, too."

Opie asked, "What stuff?"

She shrugged. "You know stuff. Can I go?"

He chuckled. "Yes. But what stuff?"

Jasmine shook her head at Opie's blissfully unaware state. She nudged him and said, "Girl stuff."

Opie asked, "What kind of girl….oh…"

Jasmine laughed harder and said, "Your dad is a typical man."

He tried not to appear awkward and asked, "Do you know what to buy? I mean? What type or brand?"

Ellie said, "Yeah. Normally, Aunt Tara picks it up for me but I know what to get."

Opie nodded. He opened his wallet looking for his credit card. "Good. Good. I can't find my card. Here just take some money."

Jasmine said, "You already gave the card to Henry, Opie."

Henry yelled from the living room, "Are you coming, Ellie? I'm about to leave."

Opie kissed her cheek and said, "Go on. Keep your brother out of trouble and tell him to bring me back some Doritos. You know which kind I like."

Ellie smiled. "Okay. Bye, guys."

She raced out of the kitchen and grabbed her purse as she followed Henry out of the house. "I can't wait until I get my license."

Henry laughed as he climbed into the car. "What they don't tell you is when you get your license you have to run errands for them. It isn't all great. Put on your seatbelt."

Ellie put on her seatbelt and laughed, "You sound like Dad now."

"Well, I don't want you flying out the window if we have an accident. Besides, it doesn't look good if I let my younger sister ride around town without her seatbelt on the first day I get my car back."

Henry turned on the radio and drove away from the curb.

Ellie asked, "Do you think you guys are really going to move into that house?"

"I don't know. My mom seems happy living with Opie but there isn't a lot of room at your house."

"Tell me about it. I've never had to share my room before. Lily is great but it is not meant for two people and all of our crap. Her dolls are like everywhere."

He laughed, "I feel the same way about sharing with Kenny. I'm too long for the bunk beds. I need my queen sized bed so that I can stretch out."

Ellie wasn't unfamiliar with that problem. She inherited her height from Opie as well. At the rate she was growing, she would easily be close to 6 ft before she stopped. "Do you think you made the football team?"

He said, "I don't know. The basketball coach seemed more excited about me joining the team. As long as I am playing one of the two, I'll be happy. I don't like hanging around the house too much. You get asked to do stuff like drive to the store."

Ellie laughed and said, "The store is up there on the left."

"I know," Henry insisted. However, he had to cut the wheel hard to swing into the parking lot in time.

"Sure you did. Aren't you lucky I tagged along."

He laughed, "Whatever." Henry pulled into a parking space across from the entrance and turned off the car.

Ellie's phone chimed and she looked down to read the message. She said, "It's from Dad. He sent me your mom's list and said to help you get everything. I see what you mean about the car thing. I'm not even driving and I'm getting extra work."

"Told you so. You read the list and I'll push the cart." Henry climbed out of the car and waited for Ellie before walking into the market. He grabbed a shopping cart and started pushing it through the store.

Ellie said, "Okay. Uh, we need to get apples, blueberries, oranges, and strawberries first. The produce section is coming up."

The siblings made quick work of the list together and then they went through the line and paid for everything.

"Let's get back to the house before they think I got us lost."

Ellie laughed. "Uh, you go ahead. I forgot something. Just give me Dad's card."

Henry fished the plastic out of his pocket and handed it to her. "Don't take too long."

"I'll be done before you finish putting the groceries in the trunk."

Henry pushed the cart out of the market and toward his car. He saw Jacob Hale walking toward the entrance and tightened his grip on the cart. He wanted to beat the man bloody but knew that would land him in hot water with Jasmine. He wasn't so sure about Opie. He thought the guy might be on board with it.

Jacob spotted Henry immediately. He wasn't an easy person to miss in a crowd. His mind had been on the boy's age from the moment he saw him the other night. He did the math and knew it was a possibility that Henry couldbe his son. Jacob reasoned that the scenario would explain why Jasmine and her family left Charming and why she reacted so strongly when he asked about the boy's age.

He considered going into the store and ignoring the boy's presence but he couldn't. Jacob and his wife had never had any children of their own. If he had a son, he wanted to at least know about it.

He walked over to Henry as he was putting the groceries into the trunk. He cleared his throat. "Uh, you're Jasmine's son. Right?"

Henry didn't stop putting the bags into the trunk. "Yeah, but you already know that from the other night when you had your hand around my mother's throat. What do you want?"

"That was just a misunderstanding from a drunken old man. I get beside myself sometimes. I am sorry that you had to see that, son. I hope you'll extend my apologies to your mother. You said that you were 16. That is a good age. I remember being 16. I grew up right here in Charming."

Henry stopped what he was doing and turned around to look at Jacob squarely. He saw the pathetic look on the man's face. "What do you want?"

"I know your mother but I'm afraid I don't know your father. Is Opie your father?"

Henry felt like strangling Hale right there and might have considered it if there weren't people coming in and out of the store. He said, "No. I don't know who my dad is. I thought your brother was my dad but I found out he isn't."

Jacob swallowed thickly and loosened his tie. He felt a weight settling on his chest as he began to realize he might be looking at his son.

"All my mom will say about my dad is that he's an older guy she knew here in Charming. I guess he has a family or something because she won't tell me who he is. You knew my mom back then. Did she have an older boyfriend or something?"

He shook his head. "No. No, I can't say that I do but I'm a good deal older than your mother. She was good friends with my brother, Davy, so I only saw her in passing I'm afraid."

Henry's shoulders sagged a little. "Well, thanks anyway."

Ellie came out of the store clutching a bag and stopped in her tracks seeing Jacob Hale talking to Henry. She approached them cautiously and said, "Henry, we need to get back home."

Jacob looked up seeing the girl and said, "Hi."

She said, "Hi. Henry, we need to go."

Jacob said, "I'll let you to be on your way. I need to pick up a few things before the market closes. Have a good night."

Henry said, "You, too."

Ellie stared in disbelief until Hale was in the market. She whirled around to see Henry pushing the cart to the holding area. "What was that? We have to tell Dad that he was talking to you. Dad is going to lose his shit. Your mom will too."

"No, we aren't going to tell them anything. Get in the car."

She got into the car bout crossed her arms waiting for an explanation. "Why aren't we going to tell them?"

"They will just worry. Besides I was just having a little fun."

"What kind of fun?"

Henry started the car and said, "The kind of fun where I made him believe that he was my father. Put on your seatbelt."

Ellie's mouth fell open in shock. "Why?"

"Making him squirm seemed better than caving in his skull which is what I wanted to do."

Ellie said, "Okay you had your fun but now he thinks he's your dad. He's going to find out that he isn't. What are you going to say then?"

"Didn't think it through that far. This is your fault for hanging back in the store. What did you have to go back for anyway?"

She made a face and said, "None of your business. Let's go home before the ice cream melts."

Henry chuckled and pulled away from the market feeling a little better than he had in awhile. It was petty revenge but it was the best he could muster at his age and without committing a crime.
