Sophia raised a critical eyebrow at the forest around her, stepping back as a light appeared in front of her, changing into the shape of a young girl. "The path is this way" she told Sophia. Sophia merely nodded and followed until the girl vanished a few minutes later, leaving Sophia standing in front of a collapsing mansion. "I know this place" she muttered, stumbling as an invisible force pushed her through the door, locking it behind her. She just shrugged and started to pull the greying dust covers off the furniture to reveal the room she knew so well. Her father's words started appearing in the air around her and she pulled another dust cover away, scattering the letters out of existence. Sophia stopped in her tracks as the dust cover in front of her shook, slowly sliding away of it's own accord to reveal the chair that belonged to her mother and a wolf sitting on it. "John, what are you doing here?" she asked the golden wolf as it looked at her. It pulled back it's lips and snarled, so Sophia started to back away. "John, what's the matter with you? It's me, I won't hurt you and you don't want to hurt me" she tried to keep her voice level as the wolf slunk off the chair and stalked towards her, ready to strike. Sophia backed away until she was at the bottom of the stairs, trying climb up them to avoid the advancing wolf, but finding her path blocked by the fallen chandelier. She took a moment to glance at it, confirming her suspicions of what was underneath it, spinning back round to see the wolf was now standing in front of her. Sophia had enough time to scream and hold up her arms as a shield before the wolf pounced.
Five minutes and a stifled scream later, Sophia emerged from her bedroom in her slippers and dressing gown and headed to the kitchen, surprised to find Eve already sitting there with a mug of hot chocolate extended in her direction. Sophia raised an eyebrow as she accepted the warm mug and took a seat opposite Eve, who just shrugged to answer Sophia's eyebrow.
"Actually, that's not true" Eve said, breaking the silence in the room. "I heard your scream through three sets of walls as I left my stomach contents in the toilet". Sophia nodded and sipped her hot chocolate, noting Eve rubbing her neck.
"I'm not the only one with a disturbed sleep" Sophia muttered to herself and Eve looked up from her glass of water with a shocked stare.
"He came after you didn't he? Sherlock? Or was it an old case? Or Him?" Sophia questioned and Eve recovered enough to smirk.
"Eve, I know you help the Hunters because the creatures are the only things you truly fear, not that you'd admit it, and certainly the only things you fear enough to puke your guts out. That and the fact your hand remains firmly on your neck where I've seen vampires tear it open, especially after Sherlock snapped the other day and almost tore Sally's throat out I'd be scared too" as Sophia spoke Eve's eyes only widened. After a few moments of silence, Eve spoke up.
"I was back in the apartment again, having the choice between the door or the flames, opening the door to find a vampire standing there..." Eve tailed off and Sophia nodded, rubbing her arms absently as she listened.
"I was at my old house again, my dad's insults as he threw me out circling me, pulling the dust covers away to get rid of them to find a wolf sitting on one of the chairs. It backed me up to the bottom of the stairs and I got stuck between it and the fallen chandelier" Sophia summarised quickly and Eve nodded her understanding. Eve frowned and opened her mouth to ask something, but quickly closed it again as the front door opened.
The golden wolf beat the hunter into the girl's kitchen and wandered over to Sophia's chair. Sophia recoiled at first, but then scratched the wolf behind the ears.
"I take it you two had a clean patrol then, no trouble?" Eve asked the Hunter, who nodded and dropped his jacket on the sofa before looking to the girls.
"We found the remains of John's old pack, but they let us walk past, I think they know why John works with me now" Sherlock told them as he put the kettle on. The Hunter paused as he saw the hot chocolate at the front of the cupboard and looked to Sophia holding the mug, then to Eve holding the glass of water, at which point two things occurred to him.
"The pair of you were still watching Doctor Who when we left and that must have taken another twenty minutes at least and our patrols don't take that long, so you must have-"
"We had about ten minutes sleep Sherlock" Eve interrupted, "And as you've already worked out, it wasn't exactly uneventful" the Hunter simply nodded and pulled Eve's hand away from her neck to see two lines, like scars of an attack, then pulled Sophia's dressing gown sleeves back to reveal her torn sleeves and the horizontal red lines in the spaces.
"Vivid nightmares often end in loss of power control" Sophia explained before the Hunter had a chance to ask.
"Meaning that we can make things happen from our nightmares or they find some way to show themselves, take it from me, this is the better alternative" Eve finished for the confused Hunter.
