Mist: Hi everyone! I just had surgery and the meds are making me silly!

Whistle: I told her not to write while like this, but it's impossible to reason with her.

Mist: Bunny power!

Whistle: Naturally, this will be a rather... awkward chapter. Do keep in mind that if there are any severe problems with it we can fix it once Mist is back to herself. Knowing you guys though you'll probably love the insanity.

Mist: Story time!

Chapter 13: Trust VS Mistrust

^o^

(third person POV following Wally)

Wally was shifting nervously in his seat as Black Canary drove to the rogues house. He hadn't been there since that day...

He still could barely comprehend what was going on, nor could he understand how any part of his mind had thought for a single moment that this was a good idea. Sure it wasn't completely his fault, his personality switches were to blame for this. At the same time it made him even more mad that he had wound up in this situation. Worse, he had no way of know which of his personality being with the rogues would bring about, or worse it might cause a new one.

Wally let out a heavy sigh.

"You ok?" Black Canary asked him.

"I'm rethinking my decision," Wally told her honestly. "Is it too late to head back?"

"I know your nervous, but we really believe that this will be good for you," She insisted. "And you have nothing to be afraid of, I won't let anyone hurt you. And if you get really scared we will leave. I promise."

Wally shook his head in annoyance, wondering not for the first time why none of the adults on the league were willing to listen to him. If things kept up like this then he could wind up in a lot of danger because of them -and knowing them they would try to blame whatever happens on his friends.

"Wally?" Black Canary said to get his attention when he didn't answer her.

Wally looked over at her, "If I say I'm scared already will you turn the car around?" He asked hopefully.

Black Canary shook her head. "No," she told him. "Because you and I both know you'd just be saying it to avoid the situation."

Wally grumbled a few curses under his breath.

"You seemed fine with everything when we were discussing it with your uncle yesterday," Black Canary commented. "Any reason for you changing your mind?"

"No reason," Wally lied. The last thing he needed was for the league to learn about his personality problems, he didn't trust them not to take advantage of it somehow.

But why doesn't he trust them anymore?

Wally shook his head to clear out the thought, not quite sure where it has come from in the first place.

There was a long silence as they continued down the worn out road that lead to the older parts of town that were hardly used anymore, save for the criminal population.

"Looks like this is the place," Black Canary said as they approached a painfully familiar building.

Wally couldn't hold back his trembling and made no move to leave the car even after Black Canary had parked and gotten out herself.

Black Canary looked back at him and gave him a reassuring smile. "You're perfectly safe," She promised him. "Just step out of the car so we can have our meeting."

Wally shook his head defiantly. There was no way in hell he was leaving the moderate safety of the car. He was just going to sit there until Black Canary gave up and agreed to take him home. Then he was going to figure out a way to stop himself from landing in this stupid situation ever again.

Unfortunately for Wally however, Black Canary wasn't willing to let him win so easily. Instead she began to make her way towards the door.

"What the hell are you doing?" Wally snapped at her, hardly believing what he was seeing and not caring that he swore.

He took note that Black Canary wrote something down in a notebook she was carrying before answering him. "I'm going to knock on the door and get everyone to come out," She answered him, keeping her voice calming. "Hopefully if you see for yourself that you are in no danger you will finally calm down."

"You have got to be kidding me," Wally muttered under his breath as he buried his face in his hands.

She wasn't, as Wally figured out as he head the sound of knocking on a door. His head shot up and he watched in horror as the door was quickly opened from the other side. In the back of his mind he recognized that they must have been sticking close to the door because they were waiting for him to arrive. Waiting for him to be back there...

His trembling got worse and he hid himself as best he could in the car. The ration part of his mind understood that hiding would not magically make him invisible, but he was afraid.

He didn't even know who had opened the door, the second he saw it opening he had hid. It didn't matter to him though, when he was in this state of mind he was well aware of the fact that each and everyone of them was a threat.

"Wally, we can see you -you aren't invisible," Black Canary told him softly as she opened the car door.

Wally shut the door again, using his superspeed so he wouldn't be stopped.

"He's even more afraid of us then when his uncle was letting us stop by before he became lucid," A voice, which Wally recognized as Captain Cold, said with a concerned tone.

"Ever since those... student's originally interacted with him he's been doing a downwards spiral," Black Canary sighed. "Around most people he's fine, but with others he's on edge and afraid. It's as though he thinks everyone wants to hurt him."

"Some people do," Wally snapped harshly at her, looking up from his hiding place.

He made eye-contact with Captain Cold and began to glare at him, slightly proud of the fact that he was retaining his normal personality as opposed to going docile as he had feared. At least like this he stood a fighting chance if anyone tried anything.

"We never intended to hurt you Wally, you know we had no clue what Hartley was doing to you when we weren't around," Captain Cold tried to reason with him.

"You have no right to call me by my real name," Wally growled at him.

Captain Cold let out a sigh.

"You have to come inside now," Black Canary insisted. "We still need to get all the data to see how your doing.

"If he doesn't want to come inside he doesn't have to," Captain Cold told her. "Maybe it's best if he goes home now and we can try again when he's feeling better. This just might be a bad day, or he just wasn't given enough notice to prepare. It... it can't be easy for him coming back here after what happened."

Wally was surprised to hear Captain Cold taking his side on this one, he had expected the leader of the rogues to want him to stay. So he could hurt him again. like last time...

Wally let out an annoyed sigh. "I'll come in -but you only have half an hour!" Wally quickly added the last part when he saw how excited Black Canary was.

"We'll check how you're doing in half an hour and if you need to go home I'll take you home," Black Canary promised before opening the car door again/

Wally hesitated quite a bit before finally getting out of the car. He shifted nervously for a few moments, resisting the urge to get back in the car and beg to be taken home.

Black Canary went to grab his hand, but he pulled back. He isn't a child and he certainly does not need to be led around like one.

"Let's just get this over with," Wally grumbled before hesitantly making his way to the building entrance.

When he arrived at the door he punched in the security code upon instinct. He inwardly flinched when he realized what he had done.

"I see you still remember the code," Black Canary commented, once more writing something down in her notebook.

"What do you keep writing in there?" Wally asked her, partly out of curiosity and partly out of annoyance.

"Just various things that could be of use to our research into how you're recovering," Black Canary told him with a smile.

Wally rolled his eyes.

When Wally made no move to continue into the building Captain Cold reached passed Wally and opened the door. When his arm was close Wally stiffened and trembled a bit. As Captain Cold moved back, he paused to give Wally's shoulder a reassuring squeeze.

^o^

Black Canary was the first one to enter the building, followed by Captain Cold, and finally Wally shuffled in behind them. Once they were inside memories began to fly around in Wally's head as he looked around shakily. This building which Wally had once called home felt much more how it had when he had gone there to try and rescue James. A pursuit which he now knows was a complete waste of his time and had only resulted in a badly damaged psyche for him. Live and learn he guessed. All he knew now though was that the rogues were way to close to be torn apart, even by a internal betrayal.

Wally wondered if the rogues still saw him as one of them and were just waiting for the best opportunity to try and recruit him again. Wally wondered if he would try to kill them if they asked, or if he would just laugh at them for saying something so insane.

In no time at all Wally found himself standing at the entrance to the living room, which was being occupied by all the rogues.

Wally's eyes scanned around, looking at each of the rogues. His wandering eyes stopped however when they came to a certain pair of Rogues.

Trickster, and the Pied Piper.

When Trickster saw Wally look at him he jumped out of his seat and ran over to him. The younger boy went to hug him, but Captain Cold held him back.

"No, James, we had an agreement -no one can touch him unless he gives consent first," Captain Cold reminded the clown.

Trickster frowned at his leader before smiling at Wally again. "Can I hug you?" he asked him.

"I'd prefer you didn't," Wally told him, taking a step back.

Trickster made a sad face, but nodded in understanding and went back to his seat.

Wally felt a little bad for turning Trickster away. He didn't hate him, not in the slightest, but at the same time he didn't want any of the Rogues thinking he had any residual feelings of attachment to any of them. That would only give them bad ideas and put himself in harms way.

"We haven't seen you in a long time, Kid," Heatwave told him. "What have you been up to?"

"Recovering from having my mind damaged," Wally responded icily, turning his gaze into a harsh glare in the Pied Piper' direction.

The Pied Piper offered him a smile. "Would it help for me to apologize?" He asked.

Wally tried to respond, but found himself to afraid. Instead he lowered his head so he wouldn't have to look at him anymore.

"Perhaps it would be best if everyone slit into groups, so Wally doesn't get overwhelmed," Black Canary suggested. "It should also make the data collecting easier."

"Who cares about some stupid data," Captain Cold growled. "Clearly this isn't a good idea. Wally, do you want to go home? We won't be offended."

Wally looked at him. "I do, but I promised I would do this," he said with a sigh. "Besides, I'm hear now so I might as well get this over with so I never have to do this ever again."

Captain Cold nodded at him and gave him a small smile.

Black Canary nodded and wrote down more in her notebook. "Ok, I'll divide up the groups in order to best categorize..."

Wally began to ignore Black Canary as talked almost non-stop to herself in her notebook. Instead he focused his attention on each of the rogues. He felt most comfortable with Captain Cold, as he was being nice and offered him twice now to allow him to go home instead of having to stay there. Not that he was going to let him know that, last thing he needed was to let a Rogue know whats going on in his head.

Black Canary, touched Wally's arm to get his attention -which caused him to flinch.

Everyone looked concerned at him.

"Are you ok?" Captain Cold asked him, looking like he was about to get into a fight with Black Canary.

Wally shook his head. "I wasn't paying attention," He insisted. "Caught off guard."

Captain Cold nodded at him and backed off, but kept his eyes on Black Canary.

"I've divided everyone into groups," Black Canary told Wally, once more taking down notes. "First will be Captain Cold and Trickster. Then Boomerang and Mirror Master. After them will be Weather Wizard and Heatwave. Finally a solo meeting with Pied Piper."

Wally tensed instantly, and out of the corner of his eye he saw Pied Piper straighten out and look surprised.

"Is there a reason for the Pied Piper having his own time," Wally asked her carefully.

"This isn't an even group," Black Canary reasoned with him. "And besides, I think we can all agree that he's the one we need to keep the closest eye on. Considering everything he has done."

Wally shook his head. To be honest he wished that he didn't have to meet with that monster at all let alone letting him have his own time with him.

"I'll be with you the whole time," Black Canary reminded him. "There is nothing for you to be afraid of."

"I better not regret this."
