Hey guys, so I am finally back with an update and I hope you all enjoy this chapter. I must warn you, however, that Klaus has taken a full on 360 transformation. I am certain there will be some readers unhappy with the direction this fanfic is taking, but trust me it will all work out.

Enjoy!

The next morning, Caroline lay awake on the bed as her family members slept.

Dawn would break over the heavens at any moment and they would be forced to get up and get back to work.

With a sigh, Caroline stood up and moved this way and that way… She knew for a fact that Klaus's words were true. He would move her into the palace and that would be the end of it.

Just as she was walking over to the basin of water, there was a commotion outdoors before she heard a knock on their cottage door.

Confused and tired, the blonde went to answer the door, but stopped in her tracks when she heard his voice. Biting down on her bottom lip, she began moving away from the door and towards the cocoon that her sleeping family members provided.

"Slave, open this door immediately or it'll be broken down and not replaced." One of the guards announced.

"Listen to the nice guards, love." He said as he inhaled a sharp breath. "You don't want your family members to be exposed to the brunt of my wrath simply because you can't listen, now do you?"

Caroline shut her eyes and placed her face in her hands. Walking towards the door, she turned the doorknob and was met with the sight of the crowned prince Niklaus Mikaelson and half a dozen guards. He was smirking at her and Caroline's hands clenched into fists as her blood began to boil.

"I opened the door. Now what do you want?" Caroline questioned, annoyed beyond belief.

"Is that anyway to talk to your superior, sweetheart? I must say that it is not."

"I may be inferior to you by law, but trust me when I tell you that I am superior in spirit." Caroline announced as her nostrils began to flare.

"Such words spoken by a slave. You ought to be beaten for such a transgression, but I'm feeling particularly kind today." He told her, his voice sounding haughty.

"Go to Hades." Caroline said as she looked him right in the eyes. The stormy blue-gray eyes that used to be filled with kindness were now empty. He looked at her as though she was nothing- as though she was a nobody. As though she wasn't the woman he professed his love to over and over again. As though she wasn't the woman that he wanted to marry. What a bloody pity, Caroline thought. She thought that there was some good left in the evil pharaoh's son, but she was wrong. He was as bad as his father- perhaps even worse. After all, blood ran thicker than water.

"Hades? We're already in Hades, love. The fact of the matter is that I am enjoying the luxuries of it while you are suffering the downsides"

"I may be surrounded by suffering, but at least I know who I am. At least I haven't lost my way like you have. It's sad really… How quickly you could change from the kindhearted man that I knew to a cold and ruthless bastard."

Her words seemed to have a momentary impact on him. After all, his eyes softened and showed off some insecurity… Nevertheless, the coldness returned within a blink of an eye. The blonde realized that she wasn't even certain if what she saw before was true or a trick of the morning light…

"Enough," he ordered. "You are coming with me to the palace and that is final." He announced.

At that moment, her brothers decided to wake up. Sleepily, they looked around the cottage. Their eyes wandered over Caroline and the other men, but then their eyes returned.

Immediately, her brothers stood up and made their way over to her. Stefan was a little slower, however.

"What is going on?" Damon questioned as he placed his hand on his sister's shoulder.

"Nothing," Caroline shook her head. "Everything is perfectly fine."

"Actually, your sister has agreed to move back into the palace. It seems she simply cannot stay away from me." Klaus announced.

At that moment, Caroline knew what it felt like to truly hate a person… Just last night she was telling herself what an enigma Klaus was and how she would cherish those moments she spent with him. Now… Oh, now she hated him with every fiber of her being.

"What?" Stefan and Damon asked in unison, dumbfounded.

"I have not agreed to move back into the palace." Caroline reassured her brothers.

"Perhaps not yet, but you will… After all, which of the men that you know of will marry a woman who carries the Royal prince's bastard in her womb? Nobody," Klaus shrugged.

Though Caroline tried to remain strong, she felt herself weakening. She would be forced to live with him and there was absolutely nothing she could do about it.

"B- bastard?" Stefan questioned as his face lost all color. Damon reacted in much the same way and they watched their sister dumbfounded.

"Oh, she hasn't told you yet, has she?" Klaus realized. "Well let me be the first to congratulate you both on your impending uncle hood. And do congratulate me on my impending fatherhood and Caroline on her impending motherhood."

"Caroline, is this true?" Damon asked as he stepped away from her.

"Y- yes," she confessed.

Damon drew away from her in disgust and took a few steps backwards as he began to shake his head.

"You've done it, Caroline. You've disgraced our family and all because mother and father weren't strict enough with you. How could you have done this to us? It's one thing to allow him inside your body, but it's an altogether different thing to allow his seed to take root in your womb. You were supposed to marry a nice man similar to us, but instead you've turned into the prince's ladybird… And now you carry a bastard. How could you?" He finished, the disappointment evident in his voice.

At her brother's words, tears sprung to her eyes and her body began to shake. She felt the world slipping away from her and before she knew it, she was falling into a dark oblivion. One that she welcomed… Anything was better than having to face her brother's disappointment in her. Anything at all.

As Caroline's body fell to the floor, Damon was the first to catch her. Though the disgust coursed through his veins, he couldn't seem to let her hurt herself. She was his sister no matter what. However, that didn't mean he would be able to forgive her so easily.

As he picked her up in his arms, he carried her to the bed and set her down. Their mother's eyes flew open and she didn't immediately react.

"What's going on?" She asked.

"Mama, Caroline fainted." Stefan announced as he winced at the pain in his shoulder.

He sat down beside her and gently pushed her blonde curls away from her face. She looked so peaceful and yet they could all tell that there was a storm inside of her.

"Out of my way." The prince commanded as he pushed Damon out of the way. He placed his hand on her forehead and worry lines appeared on his face.

"Guards, call for the doctor and bring me some water." He ordered as his hands ran over her face, her neck, her arms.

When the guards departed, Klaus was left alone with the Forbes family. They watched him with something akin to hate and disgust. The prince knew that Caroline's brothers would have gladly killed him at that moment, but they wouldn't… They wouldn't allow their nephew or niece to be left without a father, after all.

"You did this to her." Liz accused. "You couldn't just leave her alone and allow her to live the way she was. You had to have her. You had to ruin her. You had to make my family a laughingstock. And for what? Your own amusement?" She questioned as tears flooded her blue eyes. "Well congratulations! You've succeeded and ought to give yourself a pat on the back. I stupidly thought that what you felt for her was real- that you would make an honest woman out of her, but I was wrong. I was wrong because I thought that you weren't like the rest of your family. I was wrong because I decided to trust an enemy with the stormy blue-gray eyes and easy smile. I was wrong because I wanted to believe that my daughter would find the man that she would love until her last days. And she did. She loved you, but you had to mess that up too. Well congratulations, your highness. You now have a woman that hates you. You now have a woman that will be known by all as a whore. You now have a woman that carries an illegitimate child. Congratulations, your highness. You won." Liz said, finishing her angry monologue.

As the woman's words settled in, he felt the lump in his throat beginning to grow. He never wanted things to end up like they had, but it was too late. His anger got the best of him and he practically embarrassed the mother of his child with a few scathing words. Nevertheless, he was adamant that she move back into the palace. It was dangerous for a woman in her delicate condition to be exposed to the hard work of the slaves daily life. However, he also understood that within the coming months, his father would find out about her. And then he would know that the prostitute they found in the brothel was not the Caroline that his son has slept with.

Looking down at Caroline's pale face, his anger returned full force. Her mother spoke of the love she had for him. What love? She left him when she had the chance and didn't wish to return. She was willing to keep her pregnancy a secret for however long she could keep it on the down low…

"You're blaming her for all your faults, aren't you?" Damon questioned as he watched the prince with icy blue eyes filled with hate and disgust. "You're blaming her for the person your father made you."

"Nonsense," Klaus shook his head. "You do not know what you speak of."

"I know that after you saved my sister from nearly being raped by one of your men, you decided she was a tasty morsel you wanted for yourself. You could have left her be and if you wanted a better life for her, you could have helped her escape."

"The man that tried to do that to her is not and will never be my man. You're right, I was immediately attracted to Caroline and wanted her for myself. However, I never forced her into anything."

"You almost forced yourself upon me." A tired voice said and all of their eyes turned in her direction.

She was pale and looked exhausted. It seemed as though the bags under her eyes would never go away. Her blonde hair was unkempt and she had a sickly hue to her face.

"Sweetheart," Liz said as she approached her quickly and put her hand on her daughter's forehead.

"Mama," Caroline responded as a sad smile appeared on her lips. "I am so sorry."

"Sorry? It's not your fault, my love. It's not your fault at all and I don't want you to worry about it."

"Damon's right, though. I'm carrying a child and I'm not married to its father. I don't want my choices to affect my baby. I don't want him or her to be called a bastard or byblow when all of this is my fault. I should have known better."

"You were an innocent girl who believed in fairytales no matter how bad our lives got. You're only at fault for trusting somebody you shouldn't have. Then again, what the heart wants is what the heart gets. I know this must be tearing you apart, but I'll always be here for you. No matter what happens."

"You will?" She asks as a sob escaped her lips.

"Always," Liz reassured, a smile on her lips. "And I really can't wait to meet my grandchild."

Klaus stood on the sidelines and listened to a mother's conversation with her daughter. At that moment, he understood that he had become just like his father. Though there was a little part of him that wanted to allow Caroline to remain with her family, there was a bigger part that wanted him to take her for himself. And it seemed like that bigger part was winning and by the end, he knew that Caroline would hate him.

There you have it! So, I have to say that I am extremely happy with updating this with a couple of months instead of a year lol. Anyway, I hope you all liked it and if you didn't, I'm sorry.
