Author's Note: I wanted to update this chapter since I decided not to add a lemon, so I added some stuff to the ending to be able to start freshly in the next chapter. Thank you for all of your opinions, but a reviewer pointed out that a lemon would be out of place with the overall tone of this story and I agree. There will most likely be lemons in my next multi-chapter story so if you voted for it, keep an eye open for that. Anyways, thank you all for reading as always! And without further ado, here is Chapter 14.
I checked the address that was typed into my GPS for the third time. Then glanced back at the house, or mansion rather, that I was parked in front of. There was no mistaking that this was the place I was supposed to be, but I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable at the flagrant display of wealth. I knew Sasuke was rich. It was the sheer extent that I was not familiar with.
I pulled the key out of my ignition and jumped out onto the street languidly. I stared at the large expanse of property laid out before me, my face wary. Hesitantly, I took a step forward, walking up onto the sidewalk and heading down the path to the large wrought iron gate.
Finally making my way up to the porch, I swallowed hard and knocked on the door with very little force. I didn't know if the sound of my small knock was even heard throughout the very large home, but I made no move to repeat the action. I wasn't even sure what I was going to do, or say for that matter. But with the hour long drive behind me, I needed to get my act together, and fast.
Much to my surprise, the door creaked open only a few moments after I'd knocked, revealing an older and taller looking man who resembled Sasuke almost uncannily. I knew without asking that this was the older Uchiha.
"How can I help you?" His deep baritone voice rumbled out, effectively pulling me from my thoughts and reminding me of why I was standing on the beautiful man's porch in the first place.
"I-" I tried to start before being cut off by another voice from within the house.
"Itachi who is it?" I heard Sasuke ask just as he appeared at the door.
Upon seeing me his dark eyes widened and then narrowed into slits almost instantaneously. Moving quickly, he pushed Itachi out of the way before trying to close, no slam, the door in my face. What was I, a Jehovah's Witness?
With barely any reaction time I wedged my foot in the door. Mentally thanking god that I was wearing my doc martens and not my vans.
"What do you want?" Sasuke started, malice dripping from his voice.
"I need to-" I attempted, but was rudely cut off by the impatient Uchiha instead.
"Actually don't answer that," he stated bluntly, holding up a hand to emphasize his point. "Why not start with how you found my parent's house?" Sasuke grit out next.
"Suigestu gave-"
Sasuke crossed his arms over his chest before interrupting my explanation once again, "You know what? Don't answer that either, just leave."
I flinched at the demanding tone, but I didn't make any move to retreat. Itachi watched us with an almost blank expression, but I didn't miss the slight curiosity that shone in his black eyes. He stood right behind Sasuke with his arms crossed over his chest, not bothering to assist his younger brother in escorting me from the premises. He was obviously more interested in hearing what I had to say, than fulfilling Sasuke's wishes.
"Sasuke let me talk," I said, desperation coloring my tone.
He scoffed and pushed the door harder in a futile attempt to shoo me out.
"Sasuke," I pleaded.
"No, just leave," Sasuke said, his voice adopting a bored tone, though it seemed kind of forced.
"I'm not leaving until you talk to me," I insisted, now crossing my arms over my chest.
"Well I'm not talking to you," he retorted childishly, his tone sounding so immature that I thought he might stick his tongue out at me. He even earned himself a look from Itachi, who had remained virtually stoic thus far.
"No?" I asked rhetorically, moving to push the door open since he'd finally let his guard down. Successfully causing him to stumble backwards at the unexpected show of strength.
Angered by my actions, Sasuke advanced towards me, probably to hit me. Except he didn't have the chance because I leaned forward, closing the space between us and crushing my lips against his with brute force.
I shocked him into submission, in his stunned state he didn't reject or respond to the kiss, but overwhelmed with new sensations I couldn't help but explore. His distinct taste enveloping me as I took in everything that was Sasuke.
After what seemed like hours, I finally felt Sasuke kissing me back. Overjoyed, I nipped at his bottom lip asking for entrance, his lips parted, granting my wishes. Though the elation was short lived, since Itachi suddenly decided to clear his throat; unfortunately reminding us of his presence.
I pulled away reluctantly, but figured it was for the best, we did have quite a few things to discuss and regardless of how much I liked kissing Sasuke, I was pretty sure it wasn't going to solve much in that moment.
I followed suit, clearing my throat and looking between the two brothers awkwardly, trying to wrap my head around what was even happening. I was almost 100% sure that I'd heard a small whine of protest come from the younger Uchiha at the loss of my lips. But I'm positive he'd kill me if I had commented on it.
"Can we please talk now?" I prompted again with hopeful eyes.
"Hn."
Sasuke stepped to the side, finally allowing me to enter his home. I walked through, slipping off my shoes and leaving them in the entryway before turning to follow the brothers into what I presumed was their living room.
Itachi turned to me, his hand extended and an unreadable expression on his face.
"Nice to meet you Naruto."
"Nice to meet you too… sir," I replied awkwardly, being that I was unsure of how to address him.
"You can call me Itachi," he assured after a moment, turning to Sasuke and giving him a look that I suppose in Uchiha, was akin to amusement. "We'll talk later little brother."
Itachi ruffled the top of Sasuke's head, messing up his hair in the process, before he turned on his heel and fled the room. Sasuke glared at his brother's retreating back, and I held in the laughter the threatened to escape from my mouth. Laughing at an upset Sasuke was likely to end badly, I figured.
Said man, was quiet as he turned to head down the hallway, deeper into the house. I followed closely behind until we stopped and he led me into what I presumed was his bedroom.
Upon entering I met with the overwhelming scent that I could only associate with Sasuke. I breathed in deeply while my eyes scanned the room. The walls were painted a dark grey and he had mahogany wood floors. A queen sized bed sat in the center of the room with an immaculate navy blue duvet thrown over the top of it. Two nightstands could be found on either side of the bed. As for any other furniture in the room, it was lacking. Save for a simple black writing desk and a matching bookshelf, but I wasn't very surprised.
Sasuke took a seat at the edge of his bed while he stared at me with a controlled, blank expression. I made no move to sit, still standing awkwardly in the middle of his bedroom. I wished more than anything in that moment that I could read his mind. We gazed at each other in silence until he finally spoke.
"Talk," Sasuke ordered, his voice lacking emotion.
"I talked with Suigestu," I started.
Sasuke's eyes widened for a split second before returning back to normal. Something I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been searching so hard for it.
"So now you know," Sasuke affirmed, tone monotonous.
"I've known," I supplied after a moment, I didn't need any explanation for what he was referring to.
"What?"
I averted my eyes, looking down at my shoes while I shifted my weight nervously.
"I'm the same as Suigestu," I elaborated.
Regardless of the fact that Sasuke remained silent, I could feel the anger emanating from him, eating through his nonchalant façade. It engulfed us into an uncomfortable silence, the tension so unbearable that I felt suffocated by it. Yet still, I kept my eyes trained on the floor.
"What do you mean?" Sasuke grit out finally, trying, but failing miserably at keeping his voice steady.
"I have the sight too…" I trailed off, my voice barely audible though I was sure that he heard me.
"You idiot."
My head snapped up at the insult, and I couldn't help but bristle. "I'm not an idiot bastard," I retorted, walking closer to him and waggling a finger in his face rudely.
"Yes you are," Sasuke said matter-of-factly, grabbing my finger, not at all fazed by my actions. "You could have told me at any time, but you didn't," he poked my shoulder harshly.
"As if it was that easy for me," I retorted dismissively.
"It wasn't?" Sasuke countered, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
"No bastard, actually it wasn't," I spat, narrowing my eyes at him.
"Pray tell," Sasuke snorted, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Well for starters my life doesn't revolve around you," I began haughtily, ignoring the voice in the back of my head reminding me that I was lying through my teeth. I studied Sasuke's blank face, mentally noting the slight downward twitch of his mouth and the way he was incessantly fiddling with a pencil. I continued.
"Look, there are a lot of reasons why I didn't want to tell you. Are you actually interested in hearing them or would you prefer to continue fantasizing about sticking that pencil in my neck?"
Sasuke looked passed me and dropped the pencil onto the bed next to him. "I was actually imagining jamming it into your chest repeatedly, but please continue."
I couldn't control the look of shock that breached my face. I was only kidding after all, but I spoke anyways.
"At the beginning of the semester Sakura had asked me to help her find her soulmate, she said that she knew who it was and just needed me to confirm it. She'd told me his name but I had never met him," I began, shifting my weight nervously.
"And that someone was me," Sasuke assumed, raising an eyebrow. I nodded, and pleased with my affirmation he let me continue.
"So a week or so later I found you. I had no idea I was even tied with a man and since I thought I was straight my entire life, I was pretty fucking surprised. Anyways while I was watching you, my friend Ino came over and told me who you were," I said sighing, running a hand over my face.
Sasuke nodded, his expression turned thoughtful. He didn't speak, instead waiting for me to finish my explanation.
"That obviously caused an issue for me. Basically I lost my best friend over a bastard who didn't even like me."
"I do like you Naruto, and she's not really a friend if she was willing to end yours over a boy," Sasuke drawled, his frown deepening.
"Exactly and I see that now, but try and look at it from my point of view for a moment. My best friend was upset because of the guy that I was tied to, and said guy, treated me like I was gum on his shoe," I tried to reason, gazing at him expectantly.
The raven haired man nodded slowly, so I moved to finish my sentiment.
"And you! Well you were a complete and utter bastard to me, you-" I paused, looking up at the ceiling, "you said we weren't fucking friends Sasuke, how the fuck was I supposed to tell you we were destined to be together?" I yelled, swallowing the lump that was forming in my throat.
"I'm not a nice guy Naruto, and I've never been interested in anyone before you. I didn't know how to react. I couldn't tell you because I didn't think telling some straight guy about my friend's ability would go over very well."
Sasuke narrowed his eyes at the floor for what he said next, "Look, I admit that I was an asshole Naruto, simply because I was. But I dropped hints to my interest in you! And I said I didn't want you to think we were friends because I wanted more than friendship from you!"
I was shocked by Sasuke's little rant, the show of emotion was not something I was used to seeing in him. I watched in mild interest as he paced the floor while the initial shock subsided. I absorbed what he was saying, but one thing was stuck at the forefront of my brain.
"I'm the first person you've ever been interested in?"
Sasuke stared at me, and then the faint color of pink dusted his pale cheeks as he once again averted his gaze to floor. He took a seat at the edge of his bed once more, before he muttered, "Yeah."
"Well," I began, a smile creeping onto my face as I walked forward. Slowly closing the space between us. "We were both idiots, and we could have avoided this miscommunication altogether if we hadn't been, but…" I stopped in front of him, and he looked up, eying my grin warily.
"But?"
"But it happened and now it's resolved, so please let me kiss you again Sasuke," I finished, annoyed that I had sounded so desperate rather than attractive.
The nonverbal response that I got was short and sweet. The quick upturn of Sasuke's mouth into an irresistibly, sexy smirk; before being pulled down onto the mattress flush against his body.
I didn't have time to react so our position was quickly altered. I found myself pinned underneath an overeager, extremely perverted Uchiha within seconds. Pale hands roamed unwarranted underneath my shirt, while his lips were attached to mine with overwhelming fervor.
Realization dawned on me and I finally kissed him back with the same amount of passion. My hands snaked behind his head. Fingers grabbing at the soft, dark tresses, while my tongue delved into his waiting mouth. I was practically melting under his touch. At the mere contact of his skin with mine, electricity was shooting throughout my body.
I let out an audible sigh, and felt Sasuke's body tense. I knew that it was way too soon to be doing this.
"What's wrong, don't you want this?" he questioned, the concern in his voice surprisingly noticeable.
"I do, it's just too soon. We still have to talk," I replied, looking at him apologetically.
Sasuke paused, more than likely fighting an internal battle with himself before nodding understandingly and moving to get off of me.
"Okay so can I get a few things straight?" I asked, moving away from Sasuke on his bed to sit with my legs crossed.
"Ask away," he replied calmly, leaning his upper body up against the headboard and eyeing me lazily.
"Why did you avoid me for a week after the first time we had a real conversation?" I pondered, not letting him off easily.
Sasuke furrowed his brows at the question, looking confused, and then realization dawned on him. He laughed lightheartedly, an act that was uncharacteristic for him. It was something that I hadn't heard very many times, and hearing the melodious sound leave his mouth never got old.
I think I remember reading somewhere that you had to make someone laugh for them to fall in love with you, but every time he laughed I think I was the one that fell a little harder.
"I wasn't avoiding you. I went to see my brother, to talk to him about you actually," Sasuke responded, pulling me from my thoughts. I watched as he ran a pale hand through his raven locks. I wanted to reach out and touch his hair too, but thinking it inappropriate for the situation, I refrained.
"What about the day you blatantly ignored me on your way to class?" I asked next, crossing my arms over my chest and averting my gaze to his navy blue comforter.
"I was…jealous," Sasuke admitted quietly.
"Jealous of?" I persisted softly, opting to look at his face.
"The girl you were with, I thought she was your girlfriend," he muttered, turning his head away from me to gaze out of his bedroom window instead. I noticed the light pink blush that was dusting his cheeks, and decided to change the subject.
"I see," I said, nodding my head slowly. "So honestly, all of this really could have been avoided if we had both just been smarter?" I muttered, shaking my head at our stupidity and then reaching a hand up to scratch the back of my neck.
Sasuke rolled his obsidian eyes dramatically, before reaching over to grab my hand; intertwining our fingers together and squeezing my hand tightly. I got the feeling that this was all just as surreal for him, as it was for me.
Sasuke didn't reply, but he didn't really need to. The question was more rhetorical anyways. I studied him while he gazed at our interlocked hands. He was looking at the contrast of our skin tones as if it were the most interesting thing he'd ever laid eyes on. He tentatively brought my hand up to his mouth and ghosted his lips over my knuckles. I fought down a blush. That's when I noticed something.
"Hey Sasuke, you know what?" I asked excitedly, lying down next to him on the bed.
"Hn." He replied, letting go of my hand and opting instead to wrap his arms around my midsection before pulling me closer to his own body.
"The thread is gone," I said, smirking at him.
The corners of his mouth turned up slightly and he placed a kiss on my cheek, then trailed more down my neck. I shivered at the contact and he stopped at the base of my Adam's apple.
"Idiot."
Noting that the word was beginning to sound more like a pet name than an insult, I nuzzled into his hold, murmuring a low, "Bastard." Before letting my eyes fall closed.
Yeah, I could get used to this.
