Chapter Fourteen
Fear and Tears
WARNING:
SADNESS AND DEPRESSION
Kristy watched as Denethor fell to the ground after an obviously very strong blunt to the head, Gandalf glancing up at her, her elven eyes turning wide as she turned back to the guards once again stationed in her room.
"Did you..." she whispered half way pointing her index finger out of the window toward the scene down below. Her mouth hanging agape as she continued to replay the events within her minds eyes. She turned her eyes back down toward the ground to find that Denethor was slowly getting up his eyes locked on her. She could not stop the shiver that ran down her spine.
"You need to leave."
Kristy jumped and turned toward the guards looking at them with narrowed eyes. Glancing at the closest one to her she pushed herself against the bars of her windows.
"What did you say to me?" she questioned.
"My lady?" the guards inquired each arching an eyebrow at the once human girl who was now very elf like, even starting to grow in height to match the immortal beings.
"Don't play dumb with me! I heard you!" Kristy yelled pointing a finger at them, as her eyes began to cloud of her. Her body going numb and straight as if she were becoming stiff, she turned her back to them as fear took over her body.
"What's happening to me..." she whispered as her body seemed to go into a paralyzed state, standing perfectly still. Having no control over her body nor mouth, her mind screamed for help.
"Calm down," Elrohir laughed sitting before the elven girl, taking him by surprise at how much she had changed over the small amount of time they had be separated.
"What is going on?" Kristy cried looking around her as the world shifted and changed before once again landing in her room in Rivendell. Though in Rivendell it seemed that even the war had reached Elrond's halls and left everything in the gloom of it all.
"You are dreaming," Elrohir stated smugly as the corner of his lips turned upwards into a smile. Kristy narrowed her eyes at the elf.
"If I were sleeping. I would know it and I am certainly not sleeping! My body won't move! Why are you in my head?" She rambled out pacing back and forth in front of the elf.
"Have you not looked in the mirror, my love," Elrohir whispered drawing Kristy's dagger-like glared back to him.
"Yes..." she hissed.
"You are turning into one of my people. An elf," Elrohir elaborated with a cocked eyebrow seeing that the girl still was not seeing the line of the conversation instead, she continued to pace around her room before collapsing on the bed.
"You are having a waking dream, my love," Elrohir said rising from the chair and moving over toward the bed.
"I'm not an elf," Kristy hissed.
"It matters not what you think. This is what you are. You have to leave Gondor. Stay safe. Jessica is on her way," Elrohir said bending over the bed, keeping enough distance between them to not cause discomfort. Hovering over her face her starred into her blue eyes.
"Why? Gondor is safe. I'm in a bared room," Kristy explained.
"The Steward's mind is warping. He is afraid and he will take it out on you. Galadriel as foreseen it. I need you to leave. I fear I may arrive to late," Elrohir whispered as he lowered his head to hers capturing her lips in a searing kiss.
Kristy blinked her eyes a few times as the cloudiness subsided from her vision to find she was being carried on a stretcher, Faramir in the same state next to her while Denethor led the way with Pippin trailing behind him.
"I am the steward of the house of Anarion. Thus have I walked, and thus now I will sleep," Denethor muttered as Pippin came to a halt, Kristy reaching out to his arm causing the hobbit to jump in fright looking at her with worry in his eyes.
"What's going on?" she whispered.
"He has gone mad. He thinks you, Faramir and Boromir are all dead that is why Boromir has not come yet. Faramir needs medicine and you...were...weird. Just laying there," Pippin whispered. Denethor slammed the doors of the Tombs of Kings open as he marched in and turned toward the center f the room, Pippin staying close to Kristy.
"No tomb for Denethor and Faramir. No tomb for our adoptive child. No long slow sleep of death embalmed. We shall burn like the heathen Kings of old," Denethor said as Kristy jumped from her stretching shocking and scaring the guards.
"Pippin stay here," she whispered as she rushed up to Denethor, gripping his arm tightly in her hand to make the man look fully at her.
"What are you doing. I am alive. Boromir is on his way with Jesse and he is going to be so pissed at you!" Kristy yelled.
"Bring wood and oil," Denethor said twisting his arm out of her grip and pulling her into an embrace.
"Denethor! They are all alive! We are alive! We just have to fight!" Kristy cried out as his grip tightened on her body.
"There is not hope for my kingdom. This is the best way to leave this world, my darling. It will not hurt," Denethor whispered into her now pointed elf ear.
"No this isn't right. They will come!" Kristy begged.
"I've always wanted a daughter and now that I have one I must help her leave this world. Please do not leave me in death," he whispered again pushing his forehead against her own as she fought against the much stronger man.
"Let me go! I don't want to die!" Kristy shouted as she turned her eyes to Pippin who watched on in shock and horror.
Frodo led the way with Indi slowly trying to mold herself into his body to keep away from anything that could remotely look like a spider.
"I hate this place. I hate webs. I hate caves. I hate stairs and tunnels. I fucking hate spiders!" Indi grumbled angrily as she jumped at the sound of Frodo stepping on a web, his foot sticking and making a ripping sound as the thread of the web was stretched and broken.
"What is that?" Indi whimpered looking up at a tower at the top of the pass, both pausing to look at it, before moving behind a rock.
"Stay here," Frodo whispered as she creeped around the rock and moved forward a little, both unaware of the two spider legs emerging from a gap in the rocks. Indi watched Frodo cautiously moving slowly behind him not wanting him out of his arms, as he was the only one with a sword now. Her she had lost, and she was not even sure when. A rock tumbled to the ground causing Indi to scream and jump, slamming into the wall and moving behind Frodo.
"What was that?" she exclaimed poking her head around the hobbit's body to look into the darkness. They see only an empty tunnel, with a sigh of relief Frodo turns to look to Indi, however, mid turn a stinger appears out of no where to sting Frodo in the chest.
Indi's mouth opened as she screamed at the top of her lungs, her throat burning with the force of the scream. Tears forming in her eyes as Frodo's mouth began to foam as he collapsed on the ground. Looking up Indi was able to see the glisten of the stinger coming for her and she was able to barely dodge it. Slamming onto the ground she lay there next to Frodo before rolling away from him as the spider was trying to move around her, pausing only momentarily to bind Frodo in her web.
"Frodo!" Indi screamed grabbing the closest rock she threw it at the giant spider. Her attack went unnoticed as the Shelob continued on binding Frodo until finished.
"Let him go, you filth! Let him go!" Sam suddenly shouted as she appeared with Sting and the Phial of Galadriel.
"Sam!" Indi cried in relief her cheeks stained with her tears. Shelob dropped Frodo to the ground and turned to Sam.
"You will not touch him again," Sam said advancing on Shelob. "Come on then, finish it!"
Indi watched in horror as Sam ran toward the huge spider, slashing at her face only to have to spider strike back. Sam slashed at her legs as she threw him backwards dropping the light. Shelob kicked the light away advancing on Sam. Indi looked down at the Phial in front of her grabbing in she rushed forward.
"Hey you-" she started as Shelob turned at the light becoming brighter and swung her leg throwing Indi into the far wall knocking the air from her lungs. After a few moments of fighting with the spider Sam managed to use Sting to stab her, causing the Spider to retreat backwards.
"back!" Same shouted as Shelob disappeared from the final time.
"Mr Frodo! Indi!" Sam yelled as she put down Sting and rushed to Frodo pulling the webs away from his face. Indi slowly rose to her feet and stumbled forward toward Frodo. Tears returning to her eyes as she couldn't help but look at Frodo's dead form.
"Oh no! Frodo, Mr. Frodo," Sam yelled shake him.
"Wake up," Indi whimpered.
"Don't leave me," Sam begged.
"Don't leave me here alone," Indi whispered falling to her knees leaning over Frodo's body pressing her forehead to Frodo's.
"Don't go where I can't follow," Sam begged.
"Wake up," Indi ordered as she pressed her lips to Frodo's cold dead ones as her tears dripped onto his face.
"Not asleep," Sam whispered.
"Dead..." Indi wailed.
"You get back you scum!" Shagrat shouted as Indi and Sam looked to see Sting was glowing a light blue.
"Come on Indi," Sam whispered putting Frodo down and dragging her away from Frodo. They watched as Shagrat and a few other orcs appear behind him.
"What's this?" Shagrat asked coming to Frodo.
"Looks like Shelob's been having a bit of fun," he laughed.
"Killed another one has she?" an orc asked.
"No," Shagrat answered poking Frodo with his whip. "This fellow ain't dead."
"Not dead," Indi and Sam whispered in unison.
"She jabs him with her stringer and he goes as limp as a boned fish aaa... then she has her way with them. That's how she likes to feed. Fresh blood. Get him to the Tower!" Shagrat replied.
The orcs quickly move to the front grabbing hold of Frodo and taking him up the pass without a second look around the cave.
"Samwise you fool," Sam whispered.
"This scum will be awake in a couple of hours," an orc said.
"Then he'll wish he'd never been born," Shagrat said as he glanced around and followed them up the stairs. Sam and Indi quickly rush to their feet and slowly follow the disappearing group toward the tower.
Kristy watched in horror as Denethor had the room piled with wood, as Faramir was laid in the middle of a bed of wood. She continued to fight to get away from Denethor's iron grip around her waist.
"The house of his spirit crumbles," Denethor whispered moving over to Faramir holding his head with his free hand.
"He is burning. Already burning," Denethor weeped.
"He's not dead!" Pippin shouted.
"He's not dead! No! No!" Kristy cried reaching out for Faramir as tears began to fall down her cheeks looking at the man she barely knew. Denethor finally released her as she fell to her knees holding onto the dying prince.
"It'll be ok. Jess is coming," she whispered stroking his face as she laid her head on the wood next to him. Denethor grabbed a hold of Pippin and threw him away along the corridor.
"Farewell Peregrin son of Paladin," Denethor said.
"No!" Pippin shouted.
"I release you from my service," Denethor said turning his back to Pippin.
"Go not and die in what way seems best to you," he called over his shoulder as he closed the doors from Pippin. Kristy turned her angry eyes on the Steward as he re-approached her.
"Pour the oil!" Denethor yelled.
"No don't!" Kristy begged.
