Ch. 46- Melissa's POV

At about two o'clock, Eric passes the initiates dorm for the last time, according to Lexi. I ask her how she knows this, and she says, "How else do you expect us to have any fun?" like it's the most obvious thing in the world. I guess she and her friends have snuck out before. I wonder if Kat went with her. Lexi turns the knob on the door to the Dauntless-born's dorm, and quietly slips through the crack. I run through the plan in my head as I wait for the signal. Then, I see two fingers slip out under the crack in the door, and I reach into the bag Lexi gave me. I yank out a few pairs of black sweats and shove them into the cracks in the door. Then I steal into the room, making sure the sweats stay in place, and nod to Lexi. She flips the light switch.

Ch. 47- Lexi's POV

The sudden light is blinding, but at least I am expecting it. The cries from my fellow initiates are deafening, and I am glad the walls are sound- proof. Melissa checks to make sure no light is streaming out into the hallway, but she did a good job stuffing my clothes in the cracks, so people outside will never have to know what is going on. I can't stand the Candor transfer, but I have to admit, she is good at what she does.

"What the heck?!" Cherise shouts, and her eyes land on me. "Lex, what are you doing?"

"Shut it off, shut it off!" that one is from Zach.

"What the-"

"OMG it's too bright!"

"Stop it!"

"Are you out of your-"

"My eyes, my eyes!"

"What's wrong with you?!"

"I'm so confused!"

"The world is ending!"

I can't take them any longer. "Shut up!" I roar. The room goes dead silent. I nod to Melissa. "You explain."

Ch. 48- Melissa's POV

Okay, how do I explain to a bunch of crazy teenagers that we need to break into their ceiling?

"Alright guys, so Lexi and I think Evelyn, you know, my fellow Candor transfer, took Kat, the Amity kid, and trapped her in the ducts above the dorms. She wants Kat factionless, and this is the quickest way to do it. So, we need to ah, shall we say, penetrate your ceiling tiles to get her out."

Everyone looks at me and then Cherise starts to laugh, saying "Good one! Now can we go back to sleep?"

Lexi arches an eyebrow, and says, "Cherise, you aren't that stupid. Now, who's bunk can we climb onto?"

Zach smirks and shouts, "Mine, if you give me a little kissy, Lex."

I'm appaled, and Lexi walks right up to him, blushes, and slaps him across the face. Then, she climbs up on his bunk and fiddles in her belt. After a few moments, she pulls out a collapsible knife. Everyone watches wide-eyed as she slits around a ceiling panel. She and I peer up into the darkness. We see a dark lump on the ground- Kat. But there is something else. A pair of glassy eyes leaning over her.
