AN: This chapter may cause extreme acts of anger, sadness, and thoughts of hunting me down and asking for answers. Please don't. Much appreciated. Now, continue on. Thank you for your time.
Elsa's POV
My eyes flicker open. Pain shoots through my body as I try to move, but my arms and legs are tied down. My eyes adjust to the darkness but I still can't see well in the low lighting.
I can't remember how I got here, actually I don't even know where 'here' is. The last thing I remember is… oh yeah, trying to defend myself from Pitch. I can't tell if I'm in a dream or real life. It sure feels real!
All of a sudden, the door creaks open and someone enters, whistling long, slow chirps. The melody sounds familiar but I can't remember why.
A small light bulb on the ceiling flashes on and my eyes burn so I squint them closed. The whistling stranger gets closer and closer. The sound of their footsteps and a metal cart bumping along behind them soon come to a stop beside me. I open my eyes and they adjust to the light.
The whistling stops. "You remember that piece? It's the melody your mother used to sing to you as a child to calm you down when you had nightmares. Too bad it won't help you much here," Pitch says. I look him straight in the eye and scowl. "I swear, when I get out of here I'll-" I start. "You'll what?" he yells, "Tickle me to death? You're about as scary as a teddybear. Now, behave yourself, Elsa. You wouldn't want me to get a little messy with the procedure," he says. "Messy? What do you mean, 'messy'? Procedure?" I ask, trying not to panic as I assume what he is implying. He's looking at something that I can't see from where I'm laying. "Listen to me you son of a bitch, I'm going to wake up! Jack or Anna or someone will wake me up," I yell.
Our eyes meet and I can see the reflection of a shiny knife blade in his corneas. "If I were you, I would hope so," he says with a smile that morphed his features into a mask of evil that can only be compared to the devil himself.
This is going to be a long night.
Anna's POV
I watch as Jack passes out before my eyes and flops onto the bed beside Elsa. Again, silence fills the room.
I take a deep breath, trying to process what's going on. I take a seat on the edge of the bed and take Elsa's hand in mine. "Els, I don't know if you can hear me but, uh, I love you. And… I'm sorry. I know you'll pull through whatever this is," I say, refusing to let myself cry. Her skin is cold to the touch and I almost don't feel a pulse. Her breathing is so soft that her sleeping almost appears to be a death-like trance. "I believe in you Els," I say.
I can't hold the tears back anymore and one rolls down my cheek. I glance over at Jack. "And you, mister. You better bring her back safe and sound, you hear me?" I ask softly. Again, I don't get any response.
My eyes water and my vision becomes blurry. I can't help but regret the stupid fight I've been having with Elsa. I didn't know she was going through this. When she gets up, the first thing I plan on saying is 'I'm sorry'.
That is, if she gets up.
I can't afford to think negatively. Elsa is going to wake up. Jack said twelve hours so I need to trust him.
This is going to be a long night.
Jack's POV
The doorknob escapes my grasp and the door closes behind me. My breath catches in my throat and I can't get any words out for a minute. "Elsa!" I shout, running over to the broken girl on the table.
Deep cuts cover her body and blood is everywhere. "Pitch," I growl in hatred. I grab her hand and feel for a pulse. It's soft; but its there. "Elsa!" I yell, shaking her gently. I wait patiently for her eyes to open but they don't. "Elsa!" I try again, this time I notice her nose twitch. "Come on, Elsa! Wake up!" I plead. At last, her eyes flutter open slowly.
"God, I thought I lost you," I whisper, brushing some hair away from her face. Our eyes meet and she gives a small smile. "Jack," she says softly, "Is it really you?" I smile. "It's really me, Els. I'm gonna get you out of here," I say. "How are you-" she starts. "Just relax."
I notice that the table next to me is covered in weapons and tools, and it makes me cringe thinking about what was done to her. "I must have lost… a lot of blood… to be imagining you right now," she breaths slowly. She watches as I grab a knife from the table. "Jack, what are you-" she starts. "I'm cutting these straps and getting you out of here!" I snap. I start cutting at strap.
When it finally snaps and I free her right hand, I move over to her other hand. I continue to work at the bindings until I cut her free. "Okay, now nice and gentle," I say, preparing to pick her up bridal-style from the table. The second I put pressure on her she winces and I immediately remove my arms from around her.
"Jack, I don't think you'll be able to get me out of here," she says weakly. "Don't! Do NOT say that!" I snap. She looks up at me and a tear rolls down her cheek. Dried blood lines her forehead and fresh blood from a cut covers her neck and chin. "Let's try this one more time," I say, trying to be optimistically. I place my hands gently underneath her and prepare to pick her up. She tries to smile but the second I try to lift her, she screams out in pain.
I put her back down. I can't bare hurting her. The reality starts to set in and a wave of rave and sadness sets over me. "Jack-" she says softly. "No! I'm not going to let him win! Not like this!" I shout. "It's okay, Jack," she says softly. "What do you mean, 'it's okay'? None of this is okay!" I yell.
"He's going to be back soon, you need to get out of here," she says. "I'm not leaving you here. Wait, where even are we? Where the hell are we?" I shout. A small smile flashes over her lips. "My own personal hell," she says in a whisper.
I watch as her eyes start to close. "No! Elsa, stay with me! Stay with me dammit!" I yell. I get to her side and hold her hand. "Jack-" she breaths. "I'm here, Els. You're not dying on me," I try to say assuringly. I don't know what will actually happen if she dies. It's a dream but it's being influenced by Pitch so anything could happen. She could actually die.
I try not to think about it as her eyes open again and she looks at me. "Tell Anna I love her," she says. "You're so damn stubborn," I say, shaking my head. "I don't think I need to say it again, but I love you forever, Jack Frost," she says. "I love you too," I say, choking back tears. "Please, Jack, go," she says, before closing her eyes.
"Elsa! Elsa!" I say, patting her cheek and shaking her gently. Her head turns towards me and a few seconds later, her eyes open a crack. She slowly reaches her hand up and rests it on my cheek. She uses her thumb to wipe a tear from my face. Then she moves her hand to the back of my head and begins to run her fingers through my hair.
She smiles. "Kiss me one last time," she whispers. I slowly lessen the distance between us until her lips touch my own. I deepen the kiss and grab her face gently in my hands. When we break apart, I rest my forehead on hers. "I never thought… that it would end like this. Dying in my own mind," she says. "I love you," I whisper.
I keep my face pressed to hers until I feel her hand fall from my face. I break apart from her in time to see the light fade from her ice-cold blue eyes. "Elsa?" I breath. "Elsa, please-" I say, wiping tears from my face. "No! You can't die!" I shout. I look at my hands, covered in her blood.
I want to collapse. Or scream. Or both. "Elsa!" I yell. This was never supposed to happen! It's my fault. What will I tell Anna? That I was too late? I suddenly can't breath and my body shakes between sobs.
I'm about to collapse, when all of a sudden I hear footsteps approaching the room. Anger flows through me and I prepare to fight.
So I know this chapter is really going to piss some of you off… but guess what? It's not the end so anything can happen!
