Date with Haruka Week

Long, thick lashes slowly opened. Nanami Haruka blinked, wondering where she was. She slowly sat up but was stopped when her sight started spinning and her head started throbbing. She blinked again, shaking her head. After a few seconds and her eyes normalized, she scanned her environment.

She was currently sitting on a sofa in the middle of a familiar place. Judging from its interior and all the wires and machines piling in every corner of the room, she guessed she was inside the professor's laboratory. But the question is:

"How did I end up here?"

"Ara?" A voice exclaimed, Haruka jumped in surprised. She turned around, only to see the professor standing in front of the door. "It seems like you're awake, Nanami-san."

"O-o-hayou, professor." The rosette greeted.

He chuckled. "I think it's more appropriate to say 'konnichiwa', Nanami-san. It's already past noon, you know."

"What?" She blinked. She raised her wrist and looked at her watched, eyes widened in horror. She only has an hour left. "Oh no, it's already this late!" She took her bag which was sitting idly on the sofa beside her. "I still haven't—eh?"

When she opened her bag, she saw some music sheets inside. She raised an eyebrow, taking it from her bag. She read it, looking at the bar and notes as it automatically played inside her mind without the use of any instruments. It was a good song, she remembered composing it but she doesn't remember when—

"What the hell?" The 'ground' snarled. "Get off of me."

"Are you sure you're a living being and not a… ghost?"

"You have stupid naming skills." He face palmed, shaking his head. "Scratch that, I pity your future children. I bet you're going to name them syringe or dextrose or something stupider."

"Compose a song for me."

"I'll wait for your song, okay!" He shouted proudly. "Be prepared because I'll make sure your song gets really famous with my amazing singing voice!"

I… I love you, Harp-neechan.

Haruka screamed, clutching her head in agony. What… what was that? Who… owns that voice? It sounded so familiar but the more she tried to remember, the more her skull felt like it was getting cracked in half.

"Nanami-san?" She didn't know how, but the professor was suddenly in front of her, shaking her body to snap her out of it. "Are you alright?"

"I…" The pain in her head disappeared, she sighed in relief before she answered. "Yes, I'm fine."

"Are you sure?" He asked with a worried tone. "I have medicine—"

The rosette shook her head. "No, it's fine but thank you for the offer." He smiled at her. "But I just need to ask something professor, how did I get here?"

He blinked. "You told me that you were on your way to the agency to pass your song when you saw Ai fuming in the middle of the rain."

She nodded. Ah, yes. She remembered that, she was sitting on the bench when Mikaze-senpai appeared out of nowhere and—

Wait, something's not right. She can't put her finger on it but she was sure there was something wrong with the professor's statement.

The composer shook her head. That's impossible. The professor won't gain something if he lied to me.

"Professor, I will be taking my leave." Haruka wobbled out of the sofa. "I still have to pass this song or else I'm going to get in trouble."

"Want me to drive you there?" He offered.

"Really?" Golden eyes glittered gratefully.

"Sure." The professor chuckled. "It seems like you're in a hurry. And you can say it's my way of showing my gratitude for bringing Ai here."

Haruka arrived at the Shining Agency 20 minutes before the deadline. As soon as she entered its premises, she was greeted with this busy air. It felt exactly like what it usually feels before a concert happens, when everyone is busy on fixing the microphones and lights. What doesn't make sense, this was the agency. Not Tokyo Dome or any concert hall.

"There you are!" A feminine voice called out, Haruka turned around only to see her former sensei.

"Oh, Tsukimiya-sensei." She bowed. "How are you?"

"Stressed." He sighed wiping an imaginary sweat off his forehead.

She nodded. "Yes, I can see the people in the agency are all worked up as if there's going to be a concert happening tonight!" She laughed, but stopped dead on her tracks when she saw the horrifying look Ringo was giving her.

"Don't tell me no one informed. " He said in his manly voice. Everyone knew what it means when Ringo speaks in his real voice.

This man meant business.

Haruka mechanically shook her head.

"This is bad!" He chewed his lips nervously. "I'm going to be quick, ask me if there's something you don't understand, okay?" Good thing the creepy expression he was making finally disappeared. She nodded and listened to him attentively.

"Okay, here's the deal. Today is the tenth founding anniversary of Shining Agency; all of us in the agency are planning to have a surprise concert for Shining. We also made Shibuya Tomochika our host, who will later interview our president as the grand finale! Of course, we're doing this live on camera!"

Haruka nodded, before she scanned her surroundings. "I see. But I don't see what the hold-up is. Everyone seemed to be doing their job…"

"There's nothing wrong with our crew." Ringo sighed, rubbing his forehead. "It's in our concert plan! Our CONCERT PLAN! We still haven't decided which group will sing before we let Shining on stage! Heck, we don't even have a song yet!"

There was a short pause. Haruka wondered what was wrong.

"Is that a song in your hand?" The rosette gasped. Before she could protest, Ringo-sensei took it and read it. "This seems like a good song! Ryuuya!" He shouted at the back. "Call STARISH! Tell them they better get their butts here and memorize this song and make some dance steps!"

"But I haven't showed it to the president yet…" Haruka whispered. "He might not like it."

"Even BETTER!" Ringo made an undignified squeal, the younger rosette sweat dropped. "I told you, Haru-chan. What's more suiting than a surprise song in a surprise concert, right?" He nudged her forcefully, the rosette laughed warily. "And, Haru-chan, dear. This song is fabulous! I'm sure it's so good he'll end up crying!"

I doubt that. Haruka thought.

Suddenly, STARISH appeared and asked what was going on. The composer started panicking, so they were serious about using her song!

"There's no lyrics…"

"What are you talking about, Haru-chan?" Haruka blinked and took the music sheet from his hand. "There are some lyrics over here!"

Indeed, there was. But she was pretty sure this wasn't her writing… In fact, she doesn't know whose writing it was. On cue, the hazy voice ringing in her mind when she was at the laboratory returned.

"That's not it!" Haruka shouted, ignoring the voice. Everyone turned to look at her, surprised at her outburst. She bit her lips and looked away. "Shining said he'll fire me if I didn't present the song—"

"What best way to present the song you created than to perform it live?" Ringo patted her on the back, telling her it was fine. The others nodded at her, encouraging her that the song was perfect the way it is.

"Minna…!" She felt tears welling up in her eyes.

"So we're done!" Ringo shouted, calling everyone's attention. Everyone inside the building formed a circle around them. "Haru-chan. Please start recording the instrumental. Calling all the producers and instrument players to come help her. As soon as they finish the song, the better. After that, STARISH, you record the song with vocals. Have some vocal instructors to guide you, especially for the second voicing! After that, music editors. Do your best. STARISH, get ready for the dance steps. Have some dance instructors to help you out. Everyone, do your best! Don't let Shining know about this! Everyone clear?"

"YEAAAAAAAH!" They all shouted in unison.

To say that Shining was surprised was an understatement. This was an amazing spectacle! All his people working so hard just to celebrate the agency's founding day. People from the media and fans came to watch the concert. He found it amazing that something went under his nose; he was usually the first one to find secrets and such. He guessed this was all Ringo's plan.

All of his people started performing. From his first employees who were still working in the agency even if they retired from singing, which were Tsukimiya Ringo and Hyuuga Ryuuya. QUARTET NIGHT who has been with him for quite some time, he remembered those four as annoying kids he recruited to join his company.

After that, they showed some videos on the wide screen. Thank you messages from the orphanage he supported. 'Long time no video talk' from his old friends during his idol days. And even a message from his old rival, Raging Otori, asking him if he was still alive and kicking and to not let his old age get to him.

When he thought he was about to be called on stage to give his thoughts about the surprise concert. He was wrong.

"One final performance before we let you scold us, President!" Tomochika teased through the microphone, you can guess the people laughed. "From one of Shining Agency's greatest boy band, STARISH! Here they are about to perform a new song!"

Shining rose up from his seat. What? A new song? Haruka has yet to show her the song she created? Could it be this girl was willing to do such thing just to surprise him? He was slightly impressed.

Fireworks erupted to signal their entrance, the silhouette of seven handsome men appeared on stage. The crowd started screaming, glow sticks waved energetically.

"Let's goooooooooo!" The voice of Ittoki Otoya echoed throughout the place, the viewers screamed in excitement.

Shining went back to his chair, relaxing.

Show me, Miss Nanami! Show me the new song you created! He challenged the composer in his mind.

STARISH appeared on stage, the crowd went wild. If it was possible, it seemed like the whole stadium shook when the seven princes' arrived. The instrumental of the song started, Shining gasped as nostalgia overwhelmed him. He removed his shades, standing once more from his chair.

"Wait!" He shouted, but no one paid him any attention. "This song—"

It started.

Even though Haruka was somewhat uneasy when she saw some music sheets magically appear inside her bag, and she had no memories of composing it, she was sure that it really was her who created it.

She can't remember when she wrote this or with whom, all she knew was that it was her song. No, it was their song. Wait a minute, their? Who did she mean by 'their'? With STARISH? No, it doesn't seem right. That's not it—

"Haru-chan," Ringo's voice snapped her out of her daze. "Are you okay?"

Haruka was about to ask if there was something wrong when she felt something wet fell on her cheeks.

"Eh?" She wiped the liquid off her face, but her tears kept on flowing. "Why... am I crying?"

Why, oh, why, indeed. No matter how much she tried stopping it, it just kept streaming off her face. Her eyes momentarily wondered across the faces of people in the middle of this huge place when it stopped directly on Shining.

To her surprise, the great president had his shades off and was… crying. Even though it was only for a few seconds, Haruka saw his mouth move. It took her a moment before she can understand him, but she was sure of it. This was what he was saying:

Harp-neechan

When the song ended, Shining was called on stage. The segment where Tomo-chan would interview him started. It went how you expect an interview to go; Tomo-chan asked him questions and the retired idol answered. Most questions were about his career and music, but certain question caught Haruka's attention.

"Saotome-san, why did you become an idol?"

There was a short pause. The stadium became silent, waiting eagerly for his answer. Shining smiled, but it wasn't his cynical smile that he always wore on his face. But a genuine smile, the one so familiar to Haruka.

"I made a promise with someone."

The rosette clutched her head, the severe headache she experienced a while ago returned. Haruka fell on her knees, gasping for air. The people around her panicked, someone shouted for a medic. All voice became silent to her, a sudden scene flashed inside her mind.

She saw boy with messy brown hair and tanned skin sitting in front of her. He looked like a combination of Cecil and Otoya. He was glaring at her while Haruka felt her facial muscles create a smile. He looked like he had no other choice, he begrudgingly stood up and went to her side. He told her to lean closer, and so the she did. He rolled his eyes before he whispered to her ear what his real name is, golden eyes widened.

'Mitsuo'

The first kanji character on his name, which is 'mitsu' but can be read as 'hikaru' (光) means 'light', which is synonymous to his fake name, 'Akari' (明り), which also means light. His real name, Mitsuo (光男), literally translates as 'man of light'. You can guess how he came up with his stage name. Do you know his stage name? Yes, it is…

Shining.

'Welcome to UTA PRI World!'
