Chapter: Discipline

..

Once again, they are making travels down a long muddy dirt road that is cutting through a large grassy plain. In the distance, is woods area that they will soon be driving alongside.

The Fury crew have their hatches open and chilling outside each of their representative hatches, except Grady, who is sitting against the machine gun, chomping on a toothpick.

Nayla is leaning forwards in the main hatch and resting her head upon her arms. While standing behind her in the same hatch is Don, who is leaning back against the edge of the main hatch with his elbows resting on top of the tank.

Occasionally Don would tap his knee against the back of Nayla's legs or butt to see if she is still alert and not taking a nap. He did it as he notice that she hasn't moved for a while now.

"Hmm?" Nayla turns her head and pushes her helmet up a bit to stare at him with raised eyebrows.

"Just seeing if you are awake, sunshine."

"I am, sweetheart." Nayla dryly replied making Bible and Grady to snort in amusement to not snicker.

Don smirks before looking ahead as he sees a large wave of people walking in their direction for a place to stay. Nayla perks up as she knows that they have to stay on the lookout for any Nazis hidden amongst the people.

What Nayla hated about looking through these waves of people isn't them, but rather the emotions that they show. The sadness, anger, desperation, and all sorts of other emotions that Nayla finds herself wishing she can help them all.

"All right, there might be a wolf hiding in the sheep. Kid, you're up. Cast an eyeball on them. Anything that makes a move, you cut them right in half. People are in the way, that's their problem. You do what you got to do, copy?" Don picked up the com and spoke through it.

His voice coming over all their helmets.

"Copy." The new kid, Norman replied back but in a low unsure tone.

"You copy?" Don asked again, wanting a firmer and assured answer.

"I copy." Norman replied back stronger.

"Gordo, talk him through that gun again." Don commanded, setting the com aside afterwards.

"Roger." Gordo replied.

There is mumbling down in front of the tank where Gordo and Norman heads are poked out of the hatches, driving.

The tank getting closer and closer to the wave of people that slowly move off the muddy dirt road and to the sides, staring up at the American tanks rolling on by.

"The Americans are over there…keep moving…keep your hands up." Don spoken in German while making hands gestures into the direction where their American camp is for them to go there for shelter and food. Those that were enemies, the Germans, were waving white cloths to show that they are surrendering themselves over.

Once through the wave of people, they continue to drive through a large grassy field. The air slightly foggy in some parts, but clearing up as they continue to go. As they were getting closer to the woods area, a young woman was pushing a bike but pulls it up to the side of the dirt road and out of their way.

She stares up at them as they go on by.

"She'll let you fuck her for a chocolate bar." Gordo blurted out towards Norman causing all of them to let out a sigh as they knew that this subject will always be brought up amongst them.

"That's not true." Norman replied, being the gentleman that he is.

"It's not true?" Gordo looked at him with raised eyebrows.

"No." Norman said.

"Okay. It's not true." Gordo said, loud enough for all of them to hear through their helmets.

"It's completely fucking true. Or just give her some smokes. You ain't got to fuck around and give her a whole pack, neither." Grady bluntly said.

"Norman, ignore him." Bible tried to put in a few words.

"Fucking four will do it." Grady said, smirking as he sees that Bible is trying to keep Norman a good gentleman.

"Don't disappoint Christ, now. Don't let them lead you astray." Bible added on.

"You tell him this in a middle of a fucking war? Really?" Nayla blurted out, glancing at Bible while Don and Grady smile in amusement.

"You see, we can kill them, but we can't fuck them cause it says so in the Bible." Don said, making Bible to shoot him a glare as Don is showing that he isn't the religious type.

"Stop, all right? I'm done trying to convert you heathens. You mind if I continue invading Germany?" Bible asked while Grady lowly snigger as he can see how easily Don can get Bible worked up with just a few words.

"Boyd, do you think Jesus loves Hitler?" Don asked, trying not to grin.

"Oh here we go." Nayla drops her head on her arms with a sigh as she knew this is going to lead into the fucking for chocolate topic.

"Do I think Jesus loves Hitler? I'd assume so. If Hitler accepted Jesus into his heart and got baptized, he'd be saved. It ain't gonna save him from man's justice." Bible answered.

"What about your regular issue Nazi line trooper?"

"No, I'm not gonna do this with you!" Bible instantly replied, seeing that Don is leading him into a conversation that is questioning Bible endlessly about religion and the war going on.

"Is he going to heaven?"

"We've been talking about the same dumb shit for three years. You know how I stand on it. You trying to rile me up now." Bible pointed out while moving his hands around in his coat pockets and his eyes set forwards.

"Hey, what about me, huh? You think you could save me? Sing me a hymn?"

There is chuckling over the headphones making them to know that Gordo is getting a kick over their conversations.

"Yeah, sure." Bible replied.

"Sing Old Rugged Cross…I like the way your mouth moves when you sing." Grady said, reaching out to pet Bible's mustache as Bible went to sing.

"Don't."

"I like it."

"I'll sing it if you don't do that."

"Let me just touch your mustache."

"Don't touch me. Stop!"

"I just wanna touch your mustache. Why does that bother you so much when I touch your mustache?"

"I'll shoot you, I swear!"

Both Bible and Grady going back and forth making Nayla to glance at the two bickering before turning her head to look at Don with raised eyebrows. She motions her eyes to the two bickering and mostly emphasizing Don to do something.

"All right, knock it off. Knock off the horseplay." Don said, punching Bible in the shoulder before hitting Grady a few times in the leg.

The two stop and stay in silence for a few seconds.

"Boyd, do you think Hitler fuck one of us for a chocolate bar?" Don quickly asked causing all of them to laugh.

"I hope so."

They had their laughs before going silent again, but once a minute tick on by, they were snickering again at the question. Moments like these are precious as they rarely have them.

..

.. Two Hours Past: …..

..

Getting out of the grassy plains finally, the dirt road is now leading them alongside a plain but there is mostly woods surrounding them. They are driving alongside the edge of a woods.

All of them are keep eyes wide open for any sort of movement within the woods. Nayla is inside the tank, flipping through the maps that Don has in his clipboards, and she is now looking at the map that Don told her to find. It has marking on it and a new marker lines on it to show the route they are going down.

"We are still pretty far." Nayla said loud enough for the com to pick up and relay to everyone else.

Various groans of annoyance of still being far away makes Nayla to snicker and she puts the maps away. As Nayla went to put the clipboard away, the tank rocked back and forth.

"What the hell was that!?" Nayla shouted.

"Ambush! Right! Right side, ambush!" Bible is heard yelling from the top.

The sound of the automatics went off from above.

"Don!" Nayla shouted up to him.

"Stay down, Nayla!" He managed to reply as he fires a few more rounds into the woods.

"Fuck! Grady! You watch that tree line! We're ripe for an ambush!" Bible shouted.

There is screaming. One of pain and then a single gunshot.

There is no more gun firing.

"What'd you see, Boyd?" Don asked as he climbs down the front of the tank and lands on the ground, his automatic rifle in front of his face and aiming towards the tree lines.

"Just go out and blast them little fuckers!" Grady exclaimed in frustration to Don.

"What'd you see?"

"I didn't see anything."

Don disappeared into the tree lines while the others sit back and kept their eyes on the tree line with hands on the weapons. Nayla pokes her head out of the main hatch and goes wide eyes upon seeing the leading tank up in flames.

"Holy shit." Nayla whispered.

"Norman!"

Her eyes shot down to the front of the tank where Don is storming back out of the tree lines with his automatic rifle in his hands and a very pissed off expression.

"You cocksucker. Why didn't you take the shot?" Don furiously asked.

"He was just a kid. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry, Sergeant." Norman weakly said.

Climbing back up the front of the tank, Don grabs a hold of Norman's jacket and pulls him up a bit out of the hatch while glaring down at him.

"You see what a kid can do? Look! That's your fault. That's your fucking fault. Next German you see with a weapon, you rake the dog shit out of him. I don't care if it's a baby with a butter knife in one hand and mama's titty in the other. You chop him up!" Don shouted the last bit, smacking Norman upside the head and giving him a hard death glare.

Nayla shuts her eyes as she doesn't want to see Don like this towards Norman, who is only a teenager still. But at the same time, this is war and at this moment, anything goes. Don's discipline tactics towards Norman will be harsh, but will make Norman open his eyes quicker and see what is happening around him.

"Yes, Sergeant!" Norman shouted before Don smacks him upside the head again before climbing up to the very top of the tank.

"Bible."

"Yeah?" Bible replied, but sees that Don is handing him over his automatic rifle in order to grab the com.

"All tanks, Wardaddy. Looks like I'm it. I'll lead the column. Let's get us where we're going." Don said before dropping the com back on top of the tank.

He stares at the tree line then at the burning tank before them before shutting his eyes. Nayla stares at Don before lowering herself back inside the tank, knowing that he will need his moment of silence by himself for a bit.
