"I'm sorry." I say, coming closer to the bed that Christina was in. Will and Al were on either sides of her. Christina sat up in the hospital bed, groaning in the process. Will helps her by placing a hand on the back of her head.
I've never seen Christina in such a fragile state. Even in Candor, she would always tough it out. Which is why I was surprised when it took only a few punches to take her down. That wasn't the Christina I knew.
"I'm fine." She said, giving me a stern glare. "Why do you care anyway? You certainly showed no mercy in the arena." She continued, keeping her glare set on me.
I put on a fake smile and sit in the seat farthest from Christina. It was strange how even in pain, she still manages to be a bitch. I came here too apologize. Something I was sure she wasn't capable of.
"I wanted to see how you were after I beat the crap out of you." I said, my smile only growing wider and her glare only growing sharper.
"She's fine. Her nose is broken, her abdomen is weakened, and her she keeps complaining about her head." Will explained stroking her hair gently.
Christina growled at him. "Can I speak for myself, Will?" She asked. "I'm not incapable of moving my lips." She rolls her eyes.
He puts his hands up in defense, smirking a little. "My apologies Tina." He continued.
I can't hold back the snort the escaped my lips when I noticed that I wasn't the only one Christina treated like crap.
"The point is, I'll be fine. And not to injured to miss out on the fight tomorrow." She said smugly, slightly smirking. "You didn't do that much damage. I don't even need to be in the hospital."
I remember a few days back, when Edward and I's fight went down. I had a multiple amount of injuries. And I was not once taken to the hospital. Then again, Eric was there. It sort of makes sense. She didn't exit like she was in a lot of pain.
Anyhow, in the arena, she looked like she was in two times the pain she was in now. "Really? I remember the fight ending with you saying please and stop." I say, grinning widely.
"You know that isn't me!" She said her smirk now gone. "I did it for Tris." She continued. "She said didn't want to see you hurt."
My grin slowly dissipated. Tris told Christina not to hurt me, and she listened? So I was correct, Christina could have kicked my ass at any point of the fight. But didn't Christina suspect something? After all, everyone thinks that we're no longer dating. And who wouldn't want to see their ex in pain if they were in my case.
I smiled to my self. Tris didn't want me getting hurt. I would have never stood up to Molly that way. I didn't have to either I smile wider to my self, remembering how my girlfriend beat up Molly.
I checked the time on my watch. It was almost time for dinner. I was going to have to visit Molly soon.
I got out of the chair and headed for the door.
"Thank you, Christina." I said, before placing my hand on the handle.
"Whatever." She said, looking down at the bed's sheets.
Just as I was about to exit, someone came in.
It was Tris. As she enters, she carries in a "Get Well Soon" balloon. As soon as she notices me and says an awkward "Hello" and walks past me. I can't help staring at her as she does. Sure, this wasn't the healthiest thing for a secretive relationship, but I couldn't help it. After all, she was mine. Even if nobody knew it.
"Hello." I said back, removing my hand from the knob and shoving it in my pocket. "She's fine." I say, as she presents Christina with a balloon. Christina accepts the balloon anyway and smiles at Tris.
Tris hugs her gently and turns to face me. "I felt like she needed it." She said, shrugging her shoulders.
I nodded and opened the door to exit. Tris stopped me.
"Where are you going?" She said, a worried expression on her face. Her concerned girlfriend side was coming out to the max. I didn't want anymore suspicions from anybody.
"I have to visit Molly." I said, my words coming out more harsh than I intended. I hear her wince. I was going to have to apologize for that later.
I exit the room, and before I do, I look at Tris and mouth a "Thank you"
"Why didn't you visit earlier?" Molly said as I entered the room. I had to smile. A "Hello" would have been nice. I sat on the edge of the bed and sighed.
"I'm sorry."
Gosh, I've said that twice today. Both times not really meaning it.
"Drew came before you did." She said, looking straight into my eyes. "What's up with you today?" She said, pulling me closer to her.
I sighed and stroked her hair gently. She was a pain, and I sometimes question why she's my friend. Well...Who am I kidding? I often question why she's my friend.
"Nothing is wrong." I start. "I just..." I'm not able to complete my sentence. There was nothing to say. She started to sit up. I place my hand on her back as she does. She was obviously in more pain than Christina. "You should lay back down." I say, imagining the amount of pain that she was in.
She ignores me and continues to get up. She tries to hide it but I can hear the wince in her throat.
I feel bad for her. Seeing her in such a condition was kind of...hard.
It then registered to me that it could have been Tris this way, and I was more appreciative that it wasn't.
"What did the doctor say?" I asked. "You know, about your injuries?" I finished, truly concerned.
"I don't have too many. Just a broken nose and a few bent bones. One fractured." She said, not smiling. "I'll have to were a cast for the next few weeks."
I frown at the news. All I need is a reminder of how much pain she's in for the next few weeks.
"I should go." I say, getting up and heading to the door. Too my surprise, she doesn't stop me.
Almost as if she wanted me too leave.
It was almost time to meet up with Tris. I decided to wait for her in the dorm. As I walked into the room, I started thinking about Molly. What didn't she stop me when I turned to exit. As soon as I entered, she complained about me not coming early enough. What was up with her? I would have to ask her later. If she was willing to even talk to me.
I entered the dorm, not surprised to see that it was full. I checked the clock. It was officially dinnertime. Everyone would be heading out soon. Tris was not already in the dorm. Maybe she was already at the cafeteria and would come up when everyone came down. Smart. A lot smarter then what I was doing.
In the corner, I see Al. He looks at me, curiosity lurking in his expression.
Well, it was the first time I've seen him look at me without a glare or a smirk on his face, and for that, I was grateful.
I sat on my bed, and waited for everybody to clear out. It soon happened, and when it did, there were still no signs of Tris. In the period of time she wasn't there, I played a game that Alzas enjoyed. I pretended that the bunks were safety and the floor was lava. I hit my head on the bunk too many times and got dizzy so I stopped. It wasn't that fun anyways.
I sat back on my bed and started thinking to my self, once again. And I don't know how I got there, but I thought back to the day I met Molly.
I was in the classroom with Christina. We sat on opposite sides of one of the schools biggest bullies.
Molly Atwood.
I didn't consider her a bully. Just misunderstood. We didn't know her story. At least, not yet.
I smiled to my self.
"Oww!" I heard somebody yell. It was an Amity girl. Molly had stepped on her foot. The Amity girl was wearing yellow open-toed sandals. She raised her hand to tell the teacher.
For some reason, I could not let that happen.
"Molly didn't touch her." I said, getting out of my seat.
The Amity girl immediately stood up too. "Yes, she did!" She yelled back.
Christina looked at me. She knew I was lying to protect Molly.
"I'm Candor. I wouldn't lie." I told the teacher. "I know what I saw." I said, trying my best to look like I was telling the truth.
I looked back at Christina. "Right Christina?" I asked, hoping that she wouldn't tell the truth.
She didn't respond. Just looked at me. Molly agreed for her.
"We're both Candor." Molly said. "I didn't touch her." She continued.
Ever since I lied about the Amity girl, Christina stopped talking to me. But as quickly as I lost a friend, I gained two.
Drew and Molly.
The door knob twisted and Tris entered.
I smiled at her and signaled her to the bed. She quickly closed the door and practically jumped onto me.
She smiled brightly, kissing me impatiently, and just like the first time we kissed, I didn't feel a spark.
But something much more. Something indescribable.
Tris pulled away. Too quickly for my taste.
"Come on." She said. "I wanna show you something." She continued.
She sat up and pulled off her shirt.
And by the side of her waistbone I saw a tatoo.
It was of my name in bold letters.
