Ch.14 History
Perseus's POV:
"Let's start from when Artemis and I first met when I was about nine."
I had just finished my weapons training with Ares. Every time we sparred he used the opportunity to beat me up as much as possible. He still had a grudge from when I called him a biker reject.
"That guy is such an prick." I muttered under my breath.
I was so angry with Ares that I wasn't paying attention to where I was going and bumped into a girl with auburn hair and silver eyes. The girl fell to the ground, and I held out my hand to help her up.
"Sorry. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." I apologized.
"No worries. I'm fine," She said. When she looked at me, her cheeks started turning a golden hue.
"I'm Perseus, son of Poseidon." I said.
"Artemis, daughter of Leto." She responded while looking around at the market.
"Is this your first time on Olympus?"
Artemis just nodded her head, still taking in the splendor of Olympus.
"Would you like a tour?" I asked.
Artemis looked like she was about to say yes but closed her mouth and shook her head instead.
"I'm lost actually. Would you mind helping me find the throne room?"
"Sure. Follow me."
"I then brought Artemis to the throne room, and she and her brother Apollo found out that she was a daughter of Zeus. They would be staying in Hestia's palace because Hera did not like any of Zeus's children that she didn't give birth to. They stayed on Olympus until they both received their domains."
Zoë had sat down by this point and was listening with complete attention, not wanting to interrupt.
"During Artemis's stay on Olympus, we had become best friends since we trained together. We were both competitive and each other's sparring sparring partners. We helped each other improve our weaknesses. I got my domains a year before Artemis. When she got hers, she formed the hunt; and I helped her make it. She was the protective big sister, and I was the caring older brother. Then, Artemis met Orion, my half-brother."
I paused. I felt my anger building up. I took a few deep breaths to calm myself.
"Artemis brought Orion to the camp, and he traveled with us for the next year. I didn't trust him because of his perverted thoughts, but little Arty here didn't believe me." I said getting off Artemis and kicking her to Zoë. Artemis let out a shout of pain, and I just could not bring myself to care.
"She chose her year long boyfriend over her best friend. And it came back to bite her in the ass. Didn't it, Artemis?" I didn't let her answer before I continued. "Because a huntress got hurt and was almost raped. I stepped in just in time to prevent the atrocity when Artemis arrived. Perfect timing if you ask me. She was able to see me holding Orion captive with an injured huntress in my arms. I'm sure you can imagine how the looked, Zoë."
She nodded her head, curiosity piqued.
"Artemis accused me of harming the huntress although one of my original domains was loyalty. I was accused, sentenced, and sent to Tartarus by my then best friend. No chance to give my side. She just listened to what Orion said. That's what I know happened. After this all occurred, I'm assuming the huntress woke up and told Artemis; and she found out what really happened." I looked at Artemis, and she just nodded her head. "That must have been really embarrassing, Artemis. Thinking you were right when you were very wrong."
I turned my focus back to Zoë.
"See, Zoë. Artemis loves to say that men are vile and rash creatures. But the truth of the matter is: women can be just as rash and cruel. Artemis proved it herself that day. So that's the story of Artemis and I: former best friends to mere strangers/enemies. The Perseus she knew died that day." I made sure to look Artemis in the eyes as I said this.
I tossed Zoë the keys to Artemis's handcuffs.
"Bye for now, Zoë. Make sure to take her with you before you go." I said before disappearing in a flash of flames.
Artemis's POV:
I felt tears forming in my eyes, not just from the pain but also from the knowledge that Perseus and I would never be friends again. Knowing that hurt a lot more than I thought it would.
"Milady, is what he said true?" Zoë asked, trying to look me in the eyes.
"Yes." I said, looking away from Zoë.
"Oh."
I don't know what Zoë thought of me now. I do not think I could handle Zoë looking at me with disgust. Zoë had become my best friend, my confidant; and I did not want to lose my best friend again.
"Why did you do it?" Zoë asked me.
I was confused. Shouldn't Zoë hate me? Perseus was the one who saved her from Heracles, so why doesn't she hate me?
Zoë's POV:
"What do you mean?" Artemis asked me, confused.
I am almost positive I felt as confused as she looked. Perseus had given me a lot of information, but I still needed some more information.
"I mean what made you chose Orion over Perseus?" I clarified.
Artemis let out a sigh before answering. "I don't know. It may have been a couple of things: arrogance, pride, maybe even love. I'm not entirely sure."
I could sympathize with Artemis a little bit. It was almost like my incident with Heracles: betrayal, deceit, regret. I unlocked Artemis's handcuffs and pulled her into a hug. I felt her crying into my shoulder.
"I regret my actions so much. I wish I could take it all back." Artemis cried.
"I know, Milady, I know." I said, attempting to soothe her.
Artemis leaned away from me and had a look of surprise on her face.
"You don't hate me?" She asked.
"I cannot be mad at you for doing something similar to what you have done." I responded.
Artemis gave me another hug and whispered a 'thank you' before flashing us back to the hunters' camp. Now that I knew about what happened between Perseus and Artemis, the aloof or indifferent attitudes of some of the older huntresses was clarified.
"Alright girls, pack up camp!" Artemis shouted. "It's time for you to go to Camp Half-Blood!"
She got a lot of groans and complaints in response. I heard a hunter mutter about a 'stupid flag game' and 'always winning'.
"Silence!" Artemis shouted. "I know you guys do not like going to the camp, and you will not like this news any better because Apollo will be bringing you since I have to return to Olympus and he has to pick up the other demigods also."
Cue more groans. While Apollo did not hit on the hunters, he was still annoying and irritating; so needless to say, the hunters were not looking forward to the trip to Camp Half-Blood.
3rd Person POV:
While Artemis and the others were waiting for Apollo to arrive, a figure was watching them through the trees.
"No matter what you Olympians do. You will never be prepared." The tan man chuckled darkly before swiping through the image.
AN: Sorry this chapter took a while and turned out to be boring.
