AN: I know that I have been getting a lot of heat for making Elena seem like the queen bee, but I promise that there is a method to my madness. I am not Elena's biggest fan, but I have been trying not to let my personal feelings turn the characters OOC. I hate that and judging from the reviews, I think I'm doing a good job of avoiding that lol. Anyhoo. I finished the final outline of the story and made a decision of who Bonnie should be with and hopefully most of you won't be disappointed. I enjoy the reviews so keep them up. Enjoy!
Bonnie grimaced wearily as she made her way out of the crowded supply store at Whitmore University with a shopping bag full of text books. The Bennett witch had spent the majority of the day registering and enrolling for classes and getting the things necessary for her to start the course load of her studies that were to begin next week. While she was exhausted and slightly annoyed from having to" hurry up and wait" for most of the afternoon, she was glad that she had finished making the first step towards integrating herself back into a life of normalcy. Fighting off evil doppelgangers and vengeful travelers was exciting and kept her life from being dull, but Bonnie was more than eager to settle down into a lifestyle that wasn't going to get her killed and sent to supernatural purgatories or worse.
Making her way out of the main building on campus and heading towards the direction of her dorm, Bonnie noticed several students loitering in the parking lot unloading their luggage from cars driven by teary parents bidding them farewell on their new journey towards adulthood. Watching them caused a bitter sweet smile to stretch across her lips slowly. Sheila Bennett, her grams, had always insisted that Bonnie excelled in her academics so that she could accomplish an important feat was being the first one in their family to go to college. Her grams had always insisted that while being a witch was a part of her birthright, an education would help take her a lot further than just having powers and a book of spells to fall back on.
Pushing thoughts of her grams to the back of her head, Bonnie's attention was diverted as she felt her phone vibrate against her hip. She felt a smile stretch across her lips as she read a message from Kai confirming their plans to meet in the courtyard for lunch within the hour. He had called her that morning revealing that he had something important to discuss with her and Bonnie had only agreed to hear him out if they met in a public place. The last time that she had been alone with the Gemini warlock had been the night that they had freed Lily Salvatore from the prison world. After her confrontation with Damon, Bonnie had been deeply upset and Kai had tried comforting her by kissing her. While the kiss had been surprisingly pleasant, it had led Bonnie to feeling strong emotions that both confused and excited her. Even though they never discussed what had happened between them that night, she wasn't prepared to walk into another situation where the incident had a chance to repeat itself. It was already bad enough that she couldn't get the steamy morning that she had shared with Damon out of her thoughts. The last thing she needed or wanted was to be in the midst of a confusing love triangle involving a reformed psychotic vampire, and a warlock with a serious personality disorder. Even though she was attracted to both men, she knew that they both were bad for her mental and physical health, and until she could figure out how to deal with her feelings, she had every intention of avoiding being trapped behind closed door with either of them.
Feeling her stomach grumble noisily, Bonnie wracked her mind on what she planned to eat when she met up with Kai when she noticed a familiar brunette hovering near a coffee cafe located a few yards away. Her olive green eyes widened in surprise as she realized that the brunette was non other then her best friend, Elena Gilbert.
"Elena," she exclaimed walking faster so she could close the distance between them, "What are you doing here?"
The pretty doppelganger forced a smile as she exchanged a somewhat awkward hug from the other woman.
"Jo wanted to get a head start on securing maternity clothes and for some reason, she wanted my help choosing what clothes were appropriate and which ones weren't," she revealed pulling back and shifting uneasily from one foot to another,"I figured since I was already in the neighborhood, I would stop by and see if you were around so that we could talk."
For a long moment, both women stood in an uncomfortable silence trying to figure out what to say to each other. While Bonnie had tried desperately to reach out to Elena so that they could work things out, Elena had gone out of her way to avoid having a much needed conversation with her best friend, because she was afraid of where it might leave them. While she didn't blame Bonnie for Damon's hostile actions the night of the dinner party, she was still more than a little miffed that she had to watch the man she love and her best friend leave together. Despite the fact that Elena knew that she had encouraged Bonnie to go with Damon and keep an eye on him, there were still questions that Elena needed answers to, but at the moment, all she was focused on was making things right between them at the moment.
"I'm sorry," they both said in unison before laughing sheepishly.
Bonnie cleared her throat softly before starring at Elena with an apologetic smile.
"Listen, I agree with you. We do need to sit down and talk. I was on my way to meet someone for lunch. Do you want to join me so that we can try to clear the air between us?" she asked hopefully.
Elena returned her smile, feeling a heavy burden being lifted off her shoulders.
"That sounds great," she said enthusiastically.
The two young women walked in silence, both lost in their own thoughts. After ordering a couple of cups of coffee they settled down at a private table in the shade. After what seemed like forever, the awkwardness slowly faded away. Elena cleared her throat softly before lifting her eyes to meet Bonnie's apprehensive gaze.
"I know that it seems like we are fighting and I apologize if it seems like I have been avoiding you. I should have returned your phone calls and messages, but the truth is that I was really confused about things happening with Damon and everything that happened that night. I just didn't know what I should say to you," she admitted softly.
Bonnie's hardened expression softened and her guilt began to resurface at the mention of Damon's name. Thinking back to the morning after the dinner party, she recalled the heated words and raw emotions that had been exchanged between her and the devilishly handsome vampire. Bonnie thought refusing his advances towards her was the right thing to do, but the fact remained that it didn't change his feelings for her nor did it change her feelings for him. While her loyalty to her best friend meant everything, she couldn't ignore the dreams she had been having filled with the memories of his hands and lips exploring her body and how much she had enjoyed it. Damon had made it more than perfectly clear that the four months that they had spent trapped together in the prison world had meant more to him then either of them had ever realized.
Feeling her stomach twist in painful knots, Bonnie plastered a fake smile on her face as she attempted to focus her full attention on her best friend. While she knew that the right thing for her to do was to come clean about the little indiscretion that had happened between her and Damon, Bonnie knew that admitting that she allowed Damon to ravish her hungrily would do serious damage to her friendship with Elena, and she wasn't prepared to let that happen.
"I'm glad that we are finally taking the time to sit and talk things out. I know things seemed really weird the other night, but I don't want us to grow apart over a guy. We have been friends far too long and been through too much to allow Damon, of all people, to come between us," Bonnie said sincerely as she took a small sip of her mocha latte.
Elena swallowed with great difficulty as she twisted the napkin in her hand into tiny pieces of confetti. She knew that what she was about tell Bonnie was going to be hard for Elena to say and difficult for Bonnie to here, but it was time that she found the courage and the strength to be completely honest . While Elena treasured the friendship she had with the Bennett witch and loved her like a sister, she couldn't risk losing Damon.
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about, Bonnie. Damon isn't just some guy. He is the love of my life and he means everything to me. You know this better than anyone because you sacrificed everything just to send him back to me so that we could be together,"she said quietly, "We both know that I need him, and if this was just any other guy, I would be more than happy to exile him from my life so that our friendship wouldn't suffer, but this isn't just any guy. It's Damon."
Bonnie nodded solemnly before reaching across the table and covering her best friend's hand with her own.
"I understand that you are in love with Damon, and believe it or not, I respect that. Tell me what you want me to do, and I'll do it," she promised softly, "I want to help you. Whatever it takes, I'm here for you."
Elena smiled relieved as she reached up and tucked a strand of her dark brown hair behind her ear.
"I'm really glad that you feel that way. I've been thinking that ever since I have become a vampire, life has been really difficult for you and the last thing I want is to endanger you any more than I already have. I called and talked to Jeremy and he and I both think it would be best if you left Mystic Falls and stayed with him for awhile. He will keep you safe and it will give you two the chance to reconnect and maybe pick up where you left off. I think that would be the best thing for everyone considering everything that has went down over this past year," she said honestly.
Bonnie's smile faded as she slowly released Elena's hand and replaced it back into her lap. She couldn't believe the words that had just come out of the doppelgangers mouth. Bonnie had went to hell and back to escape the prison world, and now that she was back home in Mystic Falls, she was being asked to leave to be with Jeremy who made it clear that there was nothing left between them? She felt her heart slowly sink to the pit of her stomach as she realized that she was being pushed out of town for reasons that were far too shameful to say and she didn't like it one bit. Bonnie had been more than willing to deny herself happiness with Damon Salvatore, but apparently that wasn't enough for Elena. It hurt and angered her that Elena was determined to push her aside just so she could find reclaim her happiness with a man who she was too clueless to realize didn't even want her anymore!
"Are you really asking me to leave the only place I ever called home so I can go chasing after a guy who doesn't even want me, or are you doing this so you can have your happily ever after with Damon without me being in the way?" she asked in disbelief.
Elena sighed heavily flushing with obvious discomfort.
"I know that it sounds selfish, but the truth is that I am only looking out for both of our best interest. We both know that you would be a lot safer away from Mystic Falls and Damon and I will be able to go back to the way things were. He has so much going on with his mother being alive and his brother hiding Sarah's existence that he doesn't need any distractions," she tried.
"Seriously, Elena? I'm not a distraction! I am your best friend!" she exclaimed angrily, "Let me make something perfectly clear to you. I don't intend on leaving Mystic Falls to be safe or to be with Jeremy and I'm not going to allow your deep rooted insecurities to run me out of town."
Elena blinked startled before an angry frown marred her pretty face.
"Do you honestly think I am doing this out of insecurity? I'm doing this to protect you!" she protested emotionally.
"This isn't about protecting me. The only thing that you are protecting right now is your relationship with Damon," Bonnie growled, trembling like a leaf in a hurricane.
Elena rose from the table with annoyance reflecting in her big brown eyes.
"If you honestly believe that, then our friendship isn't as solid as I thought it was. Leave or don't leave, Bonnie. It's your choice. All I truly want is for you to be safe and happy, but if you want to stick around in a place where danger is always lurking, that's on you. As far as Damon goes, we will return back to normal. Despite your new found friendship with him, he's going to realize that the one person who knows him better than anyone and who should be by his side, is me. As much as I appreciate you looking out for him when you were together for four months, I'm the person he should be turning to, not you," she said coldly, "The truth is when you died, twice, I learned to live without you being in my life, Bonnie. I need you to know that I cannot bring myself to live without Damon in mine."
Before Bonnie could say another word, Elena slowly rose from her chair before storming away. As she sat there thinking about what had transpired, Bonnie felt her throat constrict tightly as tears burned the corners of her eyes. She never thought that Elena would chose a relationship over their friendship, and while a part of her was hurt, a smaller part of her wasn't surprised. All that anyone ever wanted was for Elena to be happy, and almost everyone in their supernatural circle had made an effort and some kind of personal sacrifice to ensure that happened. As much as Bonnie loved Elena, she was quickly growing tired of having to sacrifice selflessly while Elena got everything that she wanted while Bonnie was always left with nothing.
"I couldn't help but overhear what happened between you and Elena. Are you okay?"
Bonnie looked up to see Kai holding a bag of greasy burgers and fries with a concerned look on his face. Unable to speak, she shook her head causing several stray tears to fall across her cheek. While she and Elena had their share of petty and shallow fights in the past, this fight was different. Usually their fights were limited to fighting over clothes that they let each other borrow, or politics within the ranks of their cheer leading squad, they never fought over a guy. Not even when Elena had called her out several summers ago for spending time in the close proximity of a blue eyed, handsome former quarterback. Bonnie and Elena were thick as thieves, and nothing had ever been serious or solid enough to come between their friendship or threaten their bond until Damon Salvatore came along. \
While a part of Bonnie resented Damon for putting her in and Elena in this complicated position, she blamed Elena for choosing the brooding vampire who was her second soulmate over their many years of friendship.
"I've managed to lose my soul to a dark curse and my best friend over a guy all in the span of a week so no...I'm not okay," she said struggling to swallow the sob that was threatening to escape her lips.
As Kai lowered himself into a seat at the table, he stared at the devastated witch feeling both sympathy and anger. He hated that Elena and Damon continue to put Bonnie in compromising positions and he could tell from the misery etched in her pretty face that it was starting to wear her down. While a part of him agreed with Elena and believed that the best place for Bonnie to live a normal life was outside of the city limits of Mystic Falls, he wasn't going to stand by and allow her to run Bonnie out of town until he got what he wanted and what he wanted was for Bonnie to see him as an ally, not an enemy.
"I know that my opinion doesn't mean much to you these days, and I may be speaking out of turn, but I don't think that Elena is really your friend. If she had any respect for the years of friendship between you two, she wouldn't guilt you into leaving town just so she can keep her relationship with her boyfriend on solid ground," he said quietly, "Now with that said... a big part of me feels like she was right. Leaving Mystic Falls is probably your best option. It's not like you have any friends left here anyways."
Bonnie's head jerked up as she stared at him evenly.
"You don't know what the hell you are talking about. Elena and I may be having a disagreement but she is my friend and I do have other friends,' she said defensively.
"Who?" Kai scoffed as he nibbled on a fry thoughtfully, "Elena, your bestie who is trying to exile you from the only place you called home or how about Damon, the guy who is the reason why your childhood friendship with Elena is going down the drain in the first place? Or perhaps Alaric..."
He trailed off abruptly and Bonnie narrowed her eyes at him suspiciously.
"What about Alaric?" she demanded.
All the blood drained from Kai's face as he relied that he had went too far.
"Kai, if there is something you aren't telling me, you better spill it or you can pretty much guarantee that this is the last conversation we will ever have," she threatened coldly.
He sighed heavily before deciding to come clean.
"Alaric came to see me two days ago. He was looking to exploit my feelings for you because he thought if I could manage to win you over, he could protect Elena from a broken heart," he said quietly.
Bonnie's olive green eyes glazed over with tears as she glared at him feeling anger surging through her slowly.
"You're lying," she growled through her clenched teeth.
Kai shook his head as he stared at her apologetically. While he didn't want to upset her any further, he knew that he had to tell Bonnie the truth in order for her to see the reality of her situation.
"I know that it would be easy for you to believe that I am trying to deceive you, but we both know that I have spent far too much time trying to prove myself that I am worthy of a second chance just to ruin it by lying to you," he said bluntly, "Besides, if you don't believe me, you are more than welcome to ask Alaric yourself."
Bonnie saw the sincerity and seriousness etched deeply into his handsome face, and she felt a wave of betrayal wash over her. She had thought that Elena's strange request was just an isolated incident, but learning that Alaric had tried manipulating Kai in order to secure Elena's happiness, was the last straw. While a part of her knew that she shouldn't be surprised, she couldn't ignore the overwhelming sense of hurt that she felt that she felt like everyone seemed to be in Elena's corner and Bonnie was simply an after thought who was occasionally expendable.
"I can't believe this is happening," she mumbled unhappily as Kai placed a delicious smelling burger in front of her along with crispy curly fries.
"Listen, I know that you are really upset right now, and it's obvious that food isn't providing you any comfort right now. What if I told you that I could make half of your worries disappear tonight at the stroke of midnight?" he suggested mysteriously.
Bonnie snorted rudely.
"If it involves a glass slipper and a pumpkin carriage, I'm not interested. I'm not the fairy tale kind of girl," she grumbled sarcastically as she drained the last remaining bit of coffee from her cup.
Kai smiled amused.
"Trust me, Bonnie. What I have in store for you isn't anything out of some outdated fairy tale. When I look at you , I don't see some helpless maiden who needs to be saved by some wannabe prince or some white knight in shining armor. I see a she-ro who has sacrificed so much and received very little in return. That is why tonight I want to show you my appreciation for everything that you have done. So what do you say? Think you can give me a chance to make this day a little less sucky for you?" he offered with a charming smile.
Bonnie stared at him warily. While a part of her wanted to blow him off and go home and cry herself into a deep sleep over the sad state affairs involving her friendship with Elena and escape the reality of her life, she knew that would be counter productive and depressing. Despite all of her conflicting feelings towards the Gemini warlock, Bonnie knew that things in her life couldn't possibly get any worse, so did she have to lose? With Elena trying to run her out of town, and Damon wanting to be with her in more ways then one, it seemed as if Kai was the only one who didn't want anything from her other than her trust. However, given the circumstances of everything that they had been through over the past few weeks, she was almost tempted to give it him, but a part of her was still reluctant.
"I don't know. After everything with Elena, I'm not sure if I am up for anymore surprises," she mumbled miserably.
"I'm not going to take no for answer, Bonster. All you have to do is agree to meet me at the old Lockwood crypt at midnight. There's something that I want to give you and if you don't like what I have to offer, you will be free to leave," he said sincerely as he gazed down at her with warmth and affection in his eyes, "Don't bother playing the guessing game because I want it to be surprise. However, what I will tell you is that it's a little thank you gift for intervening on my behalf in the prison world when Lily took me hostage, and how can you say no to a gift?."
Bonnie stared at him feeling her face flood with warmth. While she knew the last thing she should be doing was trusting Kai and meeting him alone in the dark in a cemetery, there was something about the mystery in his voice and the promise of a life changing surprise that intrigued her.
"Fine," she relented with a smile, "I'll meet you at midnight."
Kai face lit up with excitement as an approving smile stretched across his lips.
"I promise you won't be disappointed," he murmured winking at her before heading towards the parking lot leaving her deep in thought.

"Chart...please...now."
A nurse looked up to see a middle aged female surgeon wearing a stern expression on her face breeze into the intensive care unit looking slightly frazzled. In the middle of the room was a teenage girl lying unconscious on the middle of a bed covered in blood, bandages, and plastic tubes. The surgeon, Dr. Tucker, had just finished reviving a pregnant woman who had been caught in an apartment fire, when she had received a buzz on her pager informing her about another patient who's condition was serious and had required her immediate attention. As she observed the unconscious woman, a frown marred her slightly weathered face as she notice the patients vitals, blood pressure, and heart rate was normal. Surely something had gone wrong and what she was seeing was some kind of mistake. Someone covered in this much blood couldn't possibly be in stable and damn near perfect condition unless...
"Was there someone else involved in the car accident with the girl?" she asked curtly.
The nurse cleared her throat nervously as she shook her head in the negative.
"She's a Jane Doe and she was bought in alone. The medics who found her said that she was struck by a large SUV," he informed slowly.
Doctor Tucker shoved the chart back into the nurse's hands before moving closer to the patient and studying her closely. Besides the dried blood and several faint scratches, there was nothing that revealed any sort of devastating injuries.
"Obviously, this can't be right. She doesn't seem to have anything wrong with her," the surgeon exclaimed confused.
The nurse shifted uneasily unable to provide a logical explanation to the agitated woman.
"I don't know how to explain it. When she arrived, she was flat lining and had several broken bones, and a punctured kidney," she started.
"Do you 'see" any broken bones or any signs of internal bleeding, because I don't," she interrupted angrily.
"No, but the paramedics were clear," the nurse stammered softly.
"I don't want to hear it! Take her out of the ICU and place her back downstairs! These beds are needed for those who are in critical condition. If you somehow are able to manage that menial task, I want you to find the names of the medics who bought her in so that they can get written up for being a massive screw up," she barked evenly before storming out of the room.
As the nurse quickly called in two orderly's to wheel the unconscious patient out of the room and towards the elevator, she wasn't aware that the "Jane Doe" name was actually Sarah Salvatore and she was slowly beginning to gain consciousness. As the brunette eyes fluttered open slowly, the first thing she noticed was the racing of the florescent lights in the ceiling over head assaulting her eyes causing spots to dance behind her eyelids and pain to shoot thought her skull. Moaning slightly, she squinted and lifted her head to take a glimpse down at her body and she was horrified to find that parts of her was covered with badges and tubes were sticking out of both of her arms. The smell of disinfectant and the sight of multiple people in teal green scrubs revealed that she was in a hospital, but she wasn't sure how she got there and why.
What the hell happened to me? How did I get here?
The last thing that Sarah remembered was having a conversation with the mysterious man Klaus, and closing her eyes, she felt her breath catch as flashbacks began to flood through her head like a very vivid movie.
Who are you and why are you following me?"
"My name is Klaus, and if you allow me to, I will help you destroy the Salvatore brothers once and for all."
Sarah recalled the wickedness of the smug smile that had been stretched across his lips when he had made his offer. Despite his impeccable taste in sharp suits, and his dreamy accent, there was something disturbing and twisted that lurked on the surface of his sable tinted eyes. Even though his dirty blonde hair and mythological like face was enough to make any woman melt into a liquid pool of desire, every fiber of her being found him suspicious and her gut instinct told her not to trust him. It hadn't taken her too long to realize that he didn't come to her out of the goodness of his heart. He was a vampire, and judging from the looks of it, he was deceptively dangerous. Feeling guarded and frighten, she had reached into her pocket with every intention to call Matt for help, when he had stopped her by looking her directly in her eyes and telling her to put the phone away and remain silent. For some reason, she had obeyed him and it was in that moment she knew that she was in grave danger.
Smiling appreciatively, Klaus had taken her hand inside his cold one before leading her off the campus and towards the dark road where cars were speeding by every few seconds. While she had no idea what he had planned or in store for her, she had no choice but to do as he wanted. Gripping her hand tightly, Klaus suddenly stopped walking before looking down into her eyes intently before uttering four words that instantly made her relax and feel at ease.
"Do not be afraid."
She nodded before smiling and starring up at him curiously.
"You never mentioned why you wanted to help me," she said softly.
Klaus smiled mysteriously.
"Because the enemy of my enemy is my friend. I was told about your existence by a dear friend of mine who happens to be a witch. I could not bring myself to pass up an opportunity to join forces with a member of the Salvatore family that has goals in common with myself, and that's causing the Salvatore house to fall," he said cryptically.
The beepers on the two orderly's scrub pockets vibrated and after mumbling something about fire victims in the emergency room, they abandoned Sara in the room alone before racing off to respond. When she was sure that they were gone, Sarah sat up slowly in the stretcher. After slowly removing the tubes and needles out of her arms effortlessly, she made her way barefooted across the room before shutting the hospital room's door securely. Starring at her reflection in the mirror, the memories of the previous nights began to flash through her head causing her to squeeze her eyes tightly as the flashbacks became more intense.
"I don't understand," she murmured feeling hazy and light headed as she stared up at him, "How do you know Stefan Salvatore and why do you wish t ruin him?"
"Stefan and I go way back. Believe it or not, we once use to be the best of friends. Almost closer than brothers, but over the years, Stefan has betrayed our bond by playing and toying with things that do not belong to him. First it was Katherine, then my dear sister Rebecca, and now he has dared to trifle with my sweet Caroline," he said quietly, with bitterness laced in his voice, "I must teach him a lesson once and for all that it never pays to cross those who once considered to be your family and if you choose to accept my help, we can teach him that lesson together."
"I am only human. Stefan and Damon are vampires...like you. How can you possibly began to help me?" she asked confused.
"I have my ways. However, before I give you this gift that you will need to avenge your parents death, you must ask yourself how far you are willing to go to get what you want," he murmured huskily as he towered over her menacingly causing her to shudder involuntarily.
Starring up at Klaus, Sarah knew that she should try to convince him to let her go and make it perfectly clear to him that she wasn't interested in making a deal with the devil, but she couldn't. All she could think about was the many years that she had been robbed off being with her biological mother and dad by Stefan and Damon. If there was a way that she could make them pay for what they have done to her, she had every intention of getting her revenge.
"As far as I have too," she vowed firmly.
A smile lit up his vampire face as he slowly bought his wrist up to his lips.
"Good."
Before she knew what was happening, his handsome face darkened and was replaced by a monstrous sight of dark eyes and dangerously wicked fangs causing her fear to rise noticeably. Biting open her wrist, she barely had time to flinch as he grabbed her roughly by the back of her neck before pressing his bleeding wound against her lips. She could barely control the urge to vomit as warm blood slowly trickled past her wet tongue and made a path down her constricting throat. Without any warning, he grabbed her by the arm before slinging her out into the middle of the street. causing her to land violently on the rough concrete. Seconds later she heard the screaming of a car horn, screeching tires and blinding head lights before everything went black.
Stumbling across the clean and sterile room, Sarah flung open the door to the bathroom and halted abruptly when she caught the gruesome sight of her reflection. There were dark black shadows beneath her eyes, her skin was dry and almost pale, and her mouth was covered with blood. While she was almost certain that she didn't have any internal bleeding, she wasn't sure why her mouth was covered with blood, and then, like a bad memory that her subconscious was trying desperately to hide, she slowly begin to remember. Klaus had fed her his blood before pushing her out onto the highway to be hit by a car. She had believed him when he had told her that he wanted to help her take down Stefan, but she never thought that he would turn her into a vampire.
"Excuse me."
Sarah flinched violently as she whirled around to find the nurse smiling at her sheepishly.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you," she apologized softly, "I'm here to give you some pain medication and IV."
"Actually, I'm feeling absolutely fine. I think I'm going to just check myself out," Sarah mumbled stumbling out of the bathroom and making a move towards the entrance of the room
The nurse frowned with disapproval reflecting in her slanted blue eyes.
"I don't think that is good idea. Your chart said that you were involved in a pretty horrible car accident. With the injuries listed here, you shouldn't even be conscious let alone walking around," she said baffled.
Sarah could see his the other woman's lips moving, but she wasn't listening. All she could focus on was the sound and delicious scent of blood coursing through her veins. Suddenly her mouth grew dry as she closed her eyes in an attempt to ignore the violent urges that was directing her to grab her and completely drain the nurse until she was completely satisfied. While the mere thought of feeding from her made her sick to her stomach she knew that she had to complete the transition to vampire by filling up on blood or she was going to die.
Feeling weak and miserable with hunger, Sarah eyes snapped open and she grabbed him violently causing the other woman to yelp startled. She opened his mouth to protest, but Sarah silenced her by grabbing her and slamming her hand over her mouth.
"Please don't scream," she whispered desperately, before pulling the other woman kicking and moaning into the bathroom and shutting the door securely to muffle her cries.
As she struggled violently against her, Sarah eyes closed slowly as she buried her face in the curve of the muscular man's neck and inhaled the sweet scent of blood flowing throughout his taunt and firm body. The smell was vague and strange but delicious and her mouth began to salivate as a string of drool was left on the nurse's shoulder blade shoulder blade.
"No," she whispered in horror as she stared into the mirror, witnessing the monster that she was becoming.
The veins around her nearly solid black eyes were transparent like gray spider webs and her teeth now had a pair of fangs extending that made her look like a hungry wild animal.
Sarah Nelson was no longer the living and breathing human being that she had been twenty four hours ago. In her place was the new reborn version of herself. She was now Sarah Salvatore, the great niece of ruthless murderous uncles and now, a vampire. The reality nearly crippled her, but she forced herself to exhale deeply, and hold herself together. She felt so many intense emotions coursing through her that threatened to send her into hysteria, but she knew that would only lead to her being captured and worse, so she remained calm.
The more the realization settled over her, the more tightly she clung to the frightened young woman squirming in her arms, and suddenly she heard the soft yet distinct sound of bone fracturing and when the woman had went completely limp in her arms, Sarah knew she had accidentally severed the woman's spine.
"This can't be happening to me," she groaned on the verge of hysteria before releasing her on to the cold tile floor before turning to throw up in the toilet several feet away. Once she had finished retching violently, she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, and she realized that she had to get out of there quickly, but she was so hungry.
Reaching into the plastic bag where the medics had placed all of her things that had been on her person when they had found her, she was relieved to find that her cell phone had made it through the accident unscathed. Scrolling down to Enzo's number, she called him praying quietly that he would answer.
"Hello, love," his smooth British voice purred from the receiver as she pressed the phone tightly to the ear, "I knew that you couldn't avoid me forever."
"Enzo, I need your help. I need you to come get me," she whispered frantically as tears began to pool into her big brown eyes.
"What happened?" he demanded, his voice immediately becoming serious, "Where are you?"
"I'm in the hospital, and I don't have time to explain it, but I was in an accident, I woke up and now I'm a vampire."
He muttered an colorful explicit before the phone fell silent for a long moment.
"Are you still there?" she asked hysterical.
"Yes, Sarah. I am here. Have you fed yet? You must feed in order to complete the transition," he informed curtly.
She shook her head causing tears to fly out of the corners of her eyes.
"No. I accidentally killed a woman. I didn't really have time to think about feeding," she snapped agitated.
"You have to feed if you want to stay alive. Once they find the body, they will put try to place you in police custody, so what you need to do is get out of the hospital as fast as you can," he warned softly.
"Where am I suppose to go?" she asked anxiously as tears poured from the corner of her eyes.
"Go to that little coffee shop where you first met me and wait for me there. I will be there to pick you up shortly," he promised hastily before the line went dead.
After hanging up the phone, she slowly put it back in her pocket before turning back to her victim lying motionless on the floor.
She was a killer.
Despite the fact that she had never intended to harm the defenseless woman, that didn't change the fact that her death was caused by her clumsy and inexperienced hands. She had underestimated the power that came with being a vampire and now she was experiencing first hand what would happen if she didn't quickly gain control of her impulses and urges and Enzo made it perfectly clear what would happen if she didn't feed and finish the transition.
Swallowing with great difficulty, she dropped to her knees next to the dead body, her big brown eyes clouded over with tears and regret. Her hands were shaking violently, and her pulse was racing rapidly as she reached down to brush aside the long blonde hair that was covering the curve of the woman's neck. Lifting the petite body into her arms, she swallowed back a sob of self loathing and disgust before plunging her fangs into the woman's neck and feeding from her hungrily. As disgusted as she was with herself, she couldn't deny the allure and the sweet surprise of the power she felt pulsating through her veins. No longer did she feel weak and sick, but now she felt as if she had just tapped into something that made her feel invincible and as much as it frightened her, she knew she wanted more. She was desperate for more, but first she had to get out of there before anyone had stumbled onto the heinous scene.
"I'm so sorry."
Ripping the golden crucifix that her foster mother had given her for her thirteenth birthday from around her neck, she gently pressed it into the palm of the dead's nurse hand Sending one last remorseful prayers up towards the heaven, she scrambled to her feet before fleeing the hospital room in tears.
