Fullmetal Alchemist: The Serenity Alchemist
Chapter 14
Courtney POV
The next day, Edward and I were called to Mustang's office.
I sit down on the Flame Alchemist's desk and ask, "What's up Musty?"
"Don't call me Musty and get the hell of my desk," Roy muttered, seemingly in a bad mood.
"Awe, what's the matter, Musty?" I teased. "Did Hawkeye make you actually work or something?"
"..."
I grinned and laughed.
Mustang ran his hands through his hair and muttered something.
"Hm?" I say, leaning closer with a smirk on my face. I was in an unusually good mood today.
The weather might have had something to do with it; it was a sunny day, nice and warm and a bit breezy.
On these kinds of days, I just wanted to go explore and run around outside.
"Nothing," Mustang replied, speaking up.
"So why are we really here?" Edward asked.
"Well, the Fuhrer has sent in the documents containing your alchemist names," Mustang said, gesturing to a yellow folder.
I grinned, "Well open it already!"
Mustang chuckled and opened it.
Then he read.
"This official document certifies that the nation of Amestris, prefecture of the Generalissim appoints the name Fullmetal to Edward Elric and the name Serenity to Courtney Elric in the name of Fuhrer King Bradley."
I blinked. "Serenity?" "Fullmetal?" Then Edward and I blinked at one another. We had spoken at the same time.
Roy chuckled and handed us our official pocket watches. "Well it looks like the Fuhrer has a sense of humor."
Edward growled and pocketed his while I pocketed mine.
I sighed. "Edward, seriously. This is supposed to be a happy time, not a time for you to get pissy at ol' Musty here."
Mustang growled at that, while Edward grinned at my calling him "Musty".
"True."
I turned to the Flame Alchemist, who was holding the paper out to me. "Here, Serenity. Take it and get out."
"Hey, hey; we're leaving here together. We're having a party, remember?" I said, frowning and taking the paper.
"I can't. I have some work to do; I'll catch up later." The elder answered dismissively.
"But..." I said, slightly disappointed.
"Fine, if you don't want to come, then we'll leave." Edward said, grabbing my hand.
"I'll wait outside of your office for you to get out." I said, pulling my hand away. At this, Edward blinked.
"But-"
"Edward, go ahead and leave. I'm sure everyone is waiting. At least one of us should go first." I interrupted, smiling to reassure him.
The blonde male blinked then frowned. "Fine. But stay safe, okay?"
I nodded and hugged him. "Bye."
"Bye," Edward said, nodding before he left.
Then I walked out of the office building and sat on a bench, staring at the slowly darkening sky.
A soft sigh escaped my lips as thoughts of Mom filled my head.
I could never stop thinking of her. She constantly haunted my thoughts when I wasn't thinking about any of the other events in my life at the moment.
Mom... I wonder if you're happy... Are you in an afterlife of some sort..? Or are you just dead and gone?
I buried my face in my knees. "I shouldn't be thinking this way... I'll just stress myself out again," I mumbled.
"Talking to yourself is the first sign of insanity, you know."
I looked up and blinked.
A taller boy with short blonde hair and dark blue eyes stood there. He was smirking.
His voice had a smug like tone to it.
I slowly put on a smile. "Yeah, I suppose."
He sat down next to me and held his hand out to me. "Names Russell. Russell Tringham."
"Courtney Elric," I replied.
"Elric, eh? I'll remember that." Russell mumbled, looking me over.
I blushed out of embarrassment. "Um, yeah."
Russell then stood up. I blinked. He just sat down...
"Well, bye. I just thought that I'd talk to you. Bye, Courtney. I know we'll meet again one day." Then he ran off.
I blinked. "What a strange boy..."
Suddenly, I felt someone grab me and there was a sudden pain in my head. Then... blackness.
A gasp escaped my lips as I was suddenly woken up by the coldness of water being thrown on me.
"Wh-..."
Fear struck my heart at the sight before me.
Nina was there, on the ground, blood pooled around her.
She was unconsious. As I looked around, I saw Alexander on the ground, whimpering. His head was bleeding.
The more I looked, the more detail I saw.
"Ah, so you're finally awake."
I froze. Fuck...
